• How do I let a user sign in from a different domain on Authlogic?

  [This is slightly different than a previous question about having multiple domains share the same cookie. It seemed like there wasn't an easy way to do that.] I have a application at application.com. A customer has app.customer.com pointed at my site on Heroku, and I have everything set up so that it renders a specific version of app correctly. The issue is that I want a user at app.customer.com to be able to login. I believe authlogic is now setting the cookie on application.com, so while it verifies the credentials, no session on customer.com is ever created.

  Are there any tools that can be used to connect to windows 2008 servers, and get a comparison of the installed patches/updates on the servers, showing what is installed on one and not on the other? This is to help isolate an issue we are seeing on a specific windows server, in a load balanced setup. There is a certain performance/locking issue, which is mitigated whenever one of the servers is disabled. Please share, if you have any suggestions. Thanks in advance!

To help promote the website we will be have resellers who will be offering their own branded services through us. The initial plan is to allow resellers to place registration, login, and lost password forms on their own website and use an API created by us to handle these requests. I have begun outlining how I expect the API to work (and starting documenting it as well) and I want to make sure I get it right, or as close to right, as I can from the beginning as I know once you have declared a public API you want to avoid changing that API at all costs.   Hi everyone, I have my config.inc.php file, and have set my host name to localhost. Unfortunately, I have no idea what my username/password should be. Is that something I need to configure on the MySql side? I tried creating an arbitrary username/password (admin/password), but when I try to log into phpMyAdmin with those credentials, I get an error: (#1045 - Access denied for user 'admin'@'localhost' (using password: YES)) Can anyone point me in the right direction? (Sorry for the dumb question; I just haven't had to install mysql before. I've always had a host name / username / password given to me.) Thanks!

• Is it safe to draw three separate QImages in three separate QThreads?

  I have a QMainWindow with three widgets inside that are promoted to a class containing a subclassed QThread. They each draw on a local QImage in their rexpective qthread which is sent with a signal once its drawn and then rendered by calling update (mandlebrot example) from the slot. Is this safe or dangerous? They do not share any data, at least none that I am generating and am wondering what data they could be sharing that is outside of my coding range ie that is generated by Qt automatically.

• PHP session values lost after redirect on one script but preserved after redirection on another.

  On my registration script i have: // Save registration information into the database // Set sessions $_SESSION['var1'] = 'somevalue'; $_SESSION['var2'] = 'anothervalue'; header('Location: /somewhere'); exit(); Then on my login script i have: // Check if user provided correct login credentials if (correct) { $_SESSION['var1'] = 'somevalue'; $_SESSION['var2'] = 'anothervalue'; } header('Location: /somewhere'); exit(); What happened is that the session variables were lost after the header redirect in the registration script but they were preserved after the redirect in the login script. I've checked session_id() at both pages and they have the same value, included session_start() at the top of every page and basically tried the solutions to this common problem found on Stackoverflow but somehow nothing seemed to work. I'm beginning to wonder if it is something to do with my server configuration instead of my code.

• Is *not* using the asp.net membership provider a bad idea?

  Is it generally a really bad idea to not use the built-in asp.net membership provider? I've always rolled my own for my asp.net apps (public facing), and really have not had any problems in doing so. It works, and seems to avoid a layer of complexity. My needs are pretty basic: once setup, the user must use email address and password to login, if they forget it, it will be emailed back to them (a new one). After setup there is little that needs to be done to each user account, but I do need to store several extra fields with each user (full name, telephone and a few other fields etc). The number of users that required login credentials are small (usually just the administrator and a few backups), and everyone else uses the site unauthenticated. What are the big advantages that I might be missing out on by skipping the asp.net membership provider functionality?

  To get any code with SoftReference<T> to be fully tested, one must come up with some way to test the 'yup, it's been nulled' case. One might more or less mock this by using a 'for-test' code path to force the reference to be null, but that won't manage the queue exactly as the GC does. I wonder if anyone out can share experience in setting up a repeatable, controlled, environment, in which the GC is, in fact, provoked into collecting and nulling?

  right now I am trying to Setup Continuouse Integration - Delivery for a basic WCF Service, which will be hosted on a Microsoft Azure VM. The Project is Version Controlled through Visual Studio Online. So I installed Jenkins (also on the Azure VM), TFS plugin etc. and started the first Test Build: As Server URL I used "[VSO Adress]/DefaultCollection" and for Login purposes my Microsoft Account (I can Access VSO with that).   i wonder if large web applications like twitter and facebook have admin panels to handle CRUD for users, posts, images, themes and so on just like in CMS like drupal? so programmers have to code the front for the regular users AND back for the administrators? if i develop an web application is it recommended that i also code the admin part? or is it unnecessary since i can handle all directly in mysql and by editing php scripts directly? share your thoughts! thanks
