I have IT and developer FTE resources available to me but I am trying to build a list of branding, project, and functionality points to review. What guides or lists can/should I use to evaluate this website before I begin adding features, creating new projects, or even redesigning and redeveloping the site? (I have been a webmaster/designer/developer for small, WordPress/Drupal sites for 10 years. I have been an unofficial webmaster (director/content manager) for a large site for 3 years (no direct development control over Sharepoint administration, IIS, or hosting ... but everything else, I did.     We're evaluating a set of requirements for a customer who wants Liferay which mainly has AAA and Web CMS requirements, and allowing user to upload their own content. Also all inetgration is via web services. However there is no need for other features such as actual "portlets", i18n, mashups, skins, themes, tagging, social presence, no collaboration etc So we feel we can do this as a standard JEE web app and not use Liferay (or any other portal product) since these are overheads we dont need. The customer feels the Web CMS requirements + user upload justify the "portal" product. Can anyone help me with some points to convince the customer? Assuming our point of view is right.

    I was thinking about developing a small community website where people of a certain profession can register and post their own blogs (Which includes an optional photo). I then got to thinking about how people might use this and the fact that if they are given the option to add a photo, they might be likely to use one that they simply find on Google, another social network or even an existing online blog/magazine article. So how do I cover myself from getting a fine slapped on me and to make it purely the fault of the individual uploader? I plan on having an option where the user can credit a photo by typing in the original photographers name & web link (optional) and to make them tick a check box stating that the post is their own content and that they have permission to use any images but is that enough to cover myself? How do other sites do it?

    I am using Doubleclick For Publishers (small business) for serving ads on a news website. I want to server a certain ad only an article pages for a certain category. With openX I created a zone per category but I think this is very inflexible. Is it possible to parameterize a slot? Like calling GA_googleFillSlot(SLOT_NAME, CATEGORY); and parameterize a banner to be viewed in slot SLOT_NAME with category CATEGORY?
