• What program to use to create subtitles for a video?

  I have a video that I want to create subtitles for. Is there a program that can perform rudimentary speech-to-text in order to set the correct start/stop of each individual subtitle create rudimentary text subtitles (using some sort of speech-to-text) I know about gnome-subtitles. However, it requires extensive effort to create those subtitles manually. You need to select yourself the start and stop for each sentence. Youtube has the above features (creates rudimentary text subtitles at the correct timings, using speech-to-text). However I would rather not upload the videos to Youtube just to get my subtitles. Is it possible to do the subtitles efficiently in Ubuntu? Update: I plan to use the .srt subtitles only, and do not need to hard code them on the videos. My biggest requirement is to have the program automatically find the start/stop for each sentence, so that I write the text in it.

  The task is to configure a piece of hardware within the device, according to some input specification. This should be achieved as follows: 1) Collect the configuration information. This can happen at different times and places. For example, module A and module B can both request (at different times) some resources from my module. Those 'resources' are actually what the configuration is. 2) After it is clear that no more requests are going to be realized, a startup command, giving a summary of the requested resources, needs to be sent to the hardware. 3) Only after that, can (and must) detailed configuration of said resources be done. 4) Also, only after 2), can (and must) routing of selected resources to the declared callers be done. A common cause for bugs, even for me, who wrote the thing, is mistaking this order. What naming conventions, designs or mechanisms can I employ to make the interface usable by someone who sees the code for the first time?

  My apologies if it is not a code problem. However, it is a problem that concerns programming. As a recently graduated Computer Systems Engineering I have gained some basic knowledge with programming using JAVA. I have realised 2 things, the first one is that I realy liked programming and the second is that I am not good at all. More specifically, I struggle on problem solving and when i face complex tasks I feel lost. Every day , I spend some quality time doing simple exercises in order to be more familiar with JAVA. • Bad search result due to strange linked domains

  I have a website which is not scoring good in Google's search results. I use Majestic SEO and Open Site Explorer in order to have a view about my link profile. I now see different backlink domains, some of them already removed, that contains sexual content or other non relative content linking to my domain. How much influence does these strange linked domains have on my search result? Even if some of them are already removed for a couple of months. I have already disavow open sexual domains using the tool that Google provides.

• Ubuntu 12.04 installer does not recognize Windows 7

  I recently purchased an ASUS N56VZ-ES71 laptop which came with Windows 7 Home Premium installed on it. I wish to dual boot Windows 7 and Ubuntu 12.04 on it. I shrank the hard drive partitions to leave about 150 GB unallocated for Ubuntu 12.04. When I boot the Live CD of Ubuntu and attempt to install, the installer does not recognize any other operating systems. Through reading a few questions, I have found that this is due to a GPT partitioning table that Windows uses. I ran boot-repair as per other threads' suggestions. This was my output: http://paste.ubuntu.com/1176988/ I suppose my question is: how do I proceed in order to get the installer to recognize Windows, so that I don't have to erase the current partition table and can get a safe install? • Designing a user-defined list to be stored in a relational database - Should I include user index?

  By index, I mean, as the user creates the list, each item receives an integer index for its place in that particular list. Since there will be a table of ListItems, I'd prefer to avoid using the name "Index" for the field. Then I was thinking - should I even include the list index in the database? I figured I would because the list would be created in the same fashion every time, then. Or I could order the list for the user based on its actual primary key, since the list items are created in succession anyway... What should I do?

My language of most experience is C#. I know Object Oriented Programming. I know what the difference between an interface and an abstract class is.   Hi i come across this challenge on an online programing challange the task is so simple for ex WE have to variable N and K where N is where N is lenght of array and we have to find sum of duiffrence of K smallest element of array as Sample Input 10 4 1 2 3 4 10 20 30 40 100 200 Sample Output 10 Explanation #0 We have 10 as N size of array and K is 4 here the next N values are array's elments in order to find sum of diffrences we will takek smallest values from array which are 1,2,3,4 then will perform operation(sum of difference) as |1-2| + |1-3| + |1-4| + |2-3| + |2-4| + |3-4| = 10 I tried solving the problem and found a way through which i can solve the problem wit N^3 complexity but my solution is rejected i need a approach to solve the problem with n complexity i still can't figure out a way .. looked at some solution but coud'nt find the exact way to approach. if anybody have a better idea and would like to share it would be appreciable thanks in advance

• Ubuntu 12.04 edit grub

  I just install Ubuntu 12.04. I want to change the boot order of grub. Previous versions of grub.cfg I was able to change the permissions and the do a gedit. After reloading 12.04, I was able to change permissions for grub.cfg, but gedit will not let me save it. I am a little irritated that Ubuntu is suppose to be open source. However someone has chosen to lock one out of a file. I do realize that some people have no business doing a edit on grub. I am a long time user of Unix and Linix.

• Make the player run onto stairs smoothly

  I have a 2D Platform game, where the player Always runs to the right, but the terrain isn't Always horizontal. Example: I implemented a bounding-box collision system that just checks for intersections with player box and the other blocks, to stop player from running if you encounter a big block, so that you have to jump, but when I put stairs, I want him to run smoothly just like he is on the horizontal ground. With the collision system you have to jump the stairs in order to pass them! I thought about generating a line between the edges of the stairs, and imposing the player movement on that line... What do you think? Is there something more clever to do?

• What driver for nVIDIA GeForce MX440?

  I have recently installed (clean install) Ubuntu 12.10 on a desktop PC with nVIDIA GeForce MX440 (AGP 8x) and I have problems with Unity. Although I can see the desktop, however i can't see unity bar and icons. So, I decided to install lubuntu-desktop to see the performance. And yes! I choose lubuntu-desktop from Log On screen and the performance is definetely much better and has nothing to do with the aforementioned on unity. The system has native drivers from the Ubuntu installation. I didn't touch anything in xorg configuration. I also remember that I have managed to have the best performance with this graphic card on my previous Ubuntu 9.10 system, by editing some values in /etc/X11/xorg.conf file. But I can't remember that options, because I formatted the / partition! My question is: Which is the most suitable driver for this card, in order to load the unity feature and have better performance on it?

  Hopefully my last thread about V&V as I found the B.Boehm is text which I just do not understand well (likely my technical English is not that good). http://csse.usc.edu/csse/TECHRPTS/1979/usccse79-501/usccse79-501.pdf Basically he says that verification is about checking that products derived from requirments baseline must correspond to it and that deviation leads only to changes in these derived products (design, code). But he says it begins with design and ends with acceptance tests (you can check the V model inside). The thing is, I have accepted ISO12207 in terms of all testing is validation, yet it does not make any sense here. In order to be sure the product complies with requirements (acceptance test) I need to test it. Also it says that validation problems means that requirements are bad and needs to be changed - which does not happen with testing that testers do, who just checks correspondence with requirements.

• Repainting a window with a new scene with winapi (beginner question)

  I'm following theForger's win32 API tutorial in order to create a GUI for a project. I've successfully made simple, one window applications, but I can't figure out how to repaint an entire window with new information. As an example: I have five buttons corresponding to five colors on the main application window. When a user clicks a color button, the entire window is repainted such that: 1. all five buttons are removed and a new "back" button is replaced, 2. the background is colored the color that was picked. I'm able to change the background color by trapping the button pressed message in my wndproc, but I can't figure out how to change the entire window with a new "scene" (removing the color buttons and adding a back button). This seems like a trivial task, but I can't find a solution in tutorials. Do I need to declare a new windows class with the back button and then have my button trap create a window of this class?

• Google Analytics data Missing for 4 days

  I used wrong tracking id in my E-commerce tracking code for Google analytics and missed the data for few days. To add that missing data in my account I have written a short script which manually send all orders data for four days to GA account but what my concern is date : Those orders which already placed on different dates and , when if I run my script and so it will send my missing data with current date , which I do not want. • Would it be possible to make an android app like this?

  I'm fairly new to android development and I'm not sure if the functionality I have in mind for my next project is actually feasible. I wanted to make a simple study guide app...when a user is browsing the web on their phone and they come across information they want to save to their study guide they would be able to highlight the sentence,long-click the highlighted text, and see an option to add it to their study guide(a pop-up list would appear). there would be more functionality than just this, for instance with-in the app you could create different study guide topics (biology,math, English..ect). But in general is it possible to have an app that is accessible by long-clicking when your browsing the web (as opposed to opening the App manually in order to use it.) -- If not, could I make it so you can open a browser within the app to do what I've described? This is going to be a school project so I don't care if it's totally original, I just want to make something simple and practical for practice. -- Thanks in advanced to anyone who helps!! :D
