• How to avoid duplicates when copying files that have been renamed at the destination

  I have to get pictures from a folder – with subfolders which are updated automatically – with their extensions. These files have to be copied in a folder where a website based on PHP will edit them (by renaming and creating an XML file) to be downloadable and integrated in an XML feed. Because of the rename function of the script, when I perform the copy gain, all the files are duplicated, because the script has renamed the original ones already. I've tried a few things with rsync but I'm looking for something more powerful because I can't copy files with an external "history". #!/bin/bash find '/home/name/picture' -name '*.jpg' | while read FILE ; do rsync --backup --backup-dir=incremental --suffix=.old "$FILE" /var/www/media ; done wget --spider 'http://myscript.php' ; #exit 0 PS: As a little addition, I'd like to replace '.' with a 'space' just after the *.jpeg copy. • Can I use Upstart to start a script which requires the user's X session?

  I wrote a script which greps through the output of synclient to determine whether a laptop's touchpad has miraculously turned itself off (Ubuntu seems to /love/ doing this recently) and, if so, turns it back on. The script is something like this: #!/bin/bash while true ; do if [ `synclient | grep -e"TouchpadOff[\s]*1" | wc -l` -ge 1 ] ; then synclient TouchpadOff=0 fi sleep(3) done (I don't have the laptop to hand right now but you get the point! I will update later when I'm at my laptop if that's incorrect) So I tried running this as an upstart script so my touchpad can heal itself without any interaction. But it seems synclient doesn't find the current user's X session when my script is upstart'ed. I tried running it by using something like su -c myscript.sh ledneb in my script stanza, but to no avail. Should I be looking in the direction of /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc rather than upstart? Is there a proper way to have this script run in the context of the current (or even a hard-coded) user's x session?

• Variable host IP address in iptables rule

  I am running CentOS 6.4 with OpenVZ on my laptop. In order to provide Internet access for the VEs I have to apply the following rule on the laptop: iptables -t nat -A POSTROUTING -j SNAT --to-source <LAPTOP_IP> It works fine. However, I have to work in different places - office, home, partner's office etc. The IP of my laptop is different in those places, so have to alter the rule above each time I change place. I have created a workaround which basically determines the IP and applies the rule: #!/bin/bash IP=$(ifconfig | awk -F':' '/inet addr/&&!/127.0.0.1/{split($2,_," ");print _[1]}') iptables -t nat -A POSTROUTING -j SNAT --to-source $IP The workaround above works. I only still have to execute it manually. Perhaps I could make it a hook executing whenever my laptop obtains an IP address from DHCP - how can I do that? Also, I am just wondering if there is an elegant way of getting it done in the first place - iptables? Maybe there is a syntax allowing to specify "current hardware ip addres" in the rule?

• With Ubuntu 12.04 unlike 11.04 Wine installed application start menu links are missing

  With Ubuntu 12.04 and wine 1.4 unlike ubuntu 11.04 with wine 1.2.2 installed application start menu links are missing. For instance with Ubuntu 11.04 including Wine I can install one of our Windows applications and then can go to Applications Wine Programs Semantic Designs TestCoverage Documentation to bring up the documentation for how to run our tool. Unfortunately with Ubuntu 12.04 the Applications menu is gone and going to Dash I do see "Recent Apps and more apps" but my installed Wine application and related documentation link is shown present, even though the wine uninstaller shows in present. I found this online suggestion and tried using the gnome "main menu"... Windows key to launch the Dash. Enter "Main Menu" in the search field and open the old Edit Main Menu app. Select the Category (aka Unity Dash Filter) you want the item in. Name the Dash/Launcher Item Add the Command to launch said app With "mainmenu" then get down to the TestCoverage Documentation and I could see a command link in properties of .. env WINEPREFIX="/home/sdtest/.wine" wine C:\windows\command\start.exe /Unix /home/sdtest/.wine/dosdevices/c:/users/sdtest/Start\ Menu/Programs/Semantic\ Designs/Test\ Coverage/Java\ 1.7\ Documentation.lnk BUT I could not execute this link to view the installed documentation. So I copied the link properties into a file, set it as executable, and ran it as a bash script and the documentation came up! So why can't I use this link under main menu?

• How to deploy new instances of the same application (on 1 server) automatically?

  I'm working on a SaaS application where each customer runs its own version of the application. All the application instances currently run on a single server. This works quite well for us (we need less resources in total). The application doesn't use a lot of resources, so even a small VPS would be overkill (and more expensive). Adding a new customer is currently quite a bit of work: Create a user that is allowed to ssh Create a new MySQL database and user Create a virtual host for the application Log in with the new user, do a git checkout of the application (in the right location) Create tables in the new database, and add some init data Add some cron jobs Create a first user that can log in Add this new instance to capistrano What would be the best way to automate these tasks? Are the applications that can (given proper configuration) do this? Ideally this should be usable for a sales-person (so something web-based). I could write a (bash) script that does most of these tasks, and then maybe add a small web-based wrapper where someone could provider the domain/default user information. Of course, this would also require a delete-script, since some customers will eventually leave, which means that you need a list of all existing customers/instances.

• How do I install gfortran (via cygwin and etexteditor) and enable ifort under Windows XP?

  I'm a newbie in the Unix world so all this is a little confusing to me. I'm having trouble compiling some Fortran files under Cygwin on Windows XP. Here's what I've done so far: Installed the e text editor. Installed Cygwin via the "automatic" option inside e text editor. I need to compile some Fortran files so via the "manage bundles" option I installed the Fortran bundle as well. However, when I select "compile single file" I get an error saying gfortran was missing, and then that I need to set the TM_FORTRAN variable to the full path of my compiler. I tried opening a Cygwin bash shell at the path mentioned (.../bin/gfortran), but the compiler was nowhere to be found. Can someone tell me how to install this from the Cygwin command line? Where do I need to update the TM_FORTRAN variable for the bundle to work? Also, how do I change the bundle "compile" option to work with ifort (my native compiler) on Windows? I've read the bundle file, but it is totally incomprehensible to me. Ifort is a Windows compiler, invoked simply by ifort filename.f90, since it is on the Windows path. I know this is a lot to ask of a first time user here, but I really would appreciate any time you can spare to help.

• "No such file or directory"?

  Ok, so I have a VDS laying around, and I thought I would turn it into a TF2 game server. When I connect to my server through PuTTY, and use wget to download the package "hldsupdatetool.bin" from Steampowered.com. I go to run it and it says "No such file or directory found". When I use "ls" to see what files are in directory, it lists "hldsupdatetool.bin" as being in the directory. So, why is it saying it's not there? This has been a headache for the past 2 days. • Mail server DNS failed to resolved by Mac clients

  We have two internal DNS servers. One is located on a linux server box and the other is the router's DNS management. We set the linux box as primary DNS via DHCP and the router as secondary. We have a few Mac clients that are accessing our internal mail server (hostnamed "mail" internally). When using IMAP or SMTP against the mail server internally, the mac boxes will sometimes fail to locate the server. If I use NSLOOKUP I can see that "mail" is pointed to the correct IP address and is being resolved via the correct DNS server, but if I ping "mail" it fails. ~ (bash)$ nslookup mail Server: 254.254.254.206 Address: 254.254.254.206#53 Name: mail.example.com Address: 254.254.254.205 Note: I replaced our actual internal IP address with 254.254.254.* If I wait a few minutes (3-5 minutes), somehow it resolves itself and sends successfully. This happens multiple times a day. • Using iptables to make a VPN router

  I am attempting to make a VPN connection to a third party VPN site, then forward traffic from my internal computers (ssh and ping for now) out to the VPN site using IPTables. 3rd Party <- (tun0/eth0)Linux VPN Box(eth1) <- Windows7TestBox I am running on CentOS 6.3 Linux and have two network connections eth0-public eth1-private. I am running vpnc-0.5.3-4 which is currently connecting to my destination. When I connect I am able to ping the destination IPAddresses but that is as far as I can get. ping -I tun0 10.1.33.26 success ping -I eth0 10.1.33.26 fail ping -I eth1 10.1.33.26 fail I have my private network Windows 7 test box set up to have the eth1 (private) network of my VPN Server as its gateway and can ping him fine. I need IPTables to send the Windows 7 traffic out the VPN tunnel. I have tried for a few days many different IPTables configurations from this site and others, either the other examples are too simple or overly complicated. The only thing this server is doing is connecting to the VPN and forwarding all traffic. So we can "flush" everything and start from scratch here. • Nginx and 1000 WordPress Installs - Optimization

  Hey, I'm trying to create a rather unusual (imo) configuration where I have: nginx php-fastcgi mysql 1000 seperate WordPress installs (with WP Super Cache). Each WP install corresponds to a seperate subdomain. Furthermore, I have 1000 cron jobs being called every hour that in turn call a WP plugin (using wget) which retrieves data from an API and posts it to the respective blog. This is all being run on a virtual server with 1024MB of RAM, 4 shared processors, etc. The server is not doing well, especially during the times that the cron jobs are being executed. Nginx constantly throws 504 errors and the site has a significant lag. 1) Am I crazy for having 1000 individual WP installs? Should I be using WP-MU and will this help significantly? (I have certain plugin restrictions that I prefer having seperate installs but could switch if need be.) 2) Instead of having 1000 unique cron jobs - should be calling say a bash script that will then process the 1000 HTTP requests I need? Could this be done in a succesive order instead of a sequential one? 3) Any other kind of suggestion you may have for optimization? Should I be proxying to Apache instead of just using nginx, etc. Any kind of advice would be appreciated. Thanks in advance

• Open source app to manage and run commands on cloud servers? [closed]

  I'm creating a SaaS platform, and I need a component / library that can create, delete and store the connection details for cloud servers. It also needs to support executing shell commands on these servers and returning the response to the caller. I want a central database of servers and their configuration, plus the ability to reach out and manage the servers via SSH execution of bash scripts. I don't want something that needs agents on every server like Chef. For example, this command is received by the hypothetical application: CREATE USER server = server12345 name = myuser It's translated into the following set of actions and executed by the app, which knows how to connect to server12345, and how to create a user on that server: $ ssh root@server12345 $ adduser myuser And returns the output from the shell: Added user myuser. I've done research on Google and can't quite quite find something that does this already. I've found: fabric This part handles the executing of the shell commands very elegantly, and can take multiple server definitions, but it's supposed to be a deployment tool so doesn't do everything that would be required above - for example, it doesn't have a daemon mode where it listens for commands - it expects to be executed on the shell. It also can't provide the central database functionality. libcloud This library can handle the server admin (CRUD) part, but doesn't have a command interface daemon either, and doesn't let you execute commands on the servers. I guess I need something that is a combination of libcloud, fabric and django for an API. Or something else that does that same thing regardless of language. Overmind Overmind is a GUI and wrapper around libcloud, but doesn't support the command execution part. What am I missing here?

• Problem running iPhone application on iPhone from Xcode (and in Instruments)

  Hi I have a problem running one application on the iPhone from Xcode (or Instruments). When I try to run the app I get the error message Failed to upload XXX.app in the bottom left corner of Xcode. The strange thing is it actually uploaded the app to the iPhone but it doesn't start it (after this I can start the app by hand on the iPhone). So without being able to start the app from Xcode or instruments I have no chance of debugging/performance testing. Any advice on what might be going wrong here? • Configuring WCF to Handle a Signature on a SOAP Message from an Oracle Server

  I'm trying to use WCF to consume a web service provided by a third-party's Oracle Application Server. I pass a username and password and as part of the response the web service returns a standard security tag in the header which includes a digest and signature. With my current setup, I successfully send a request to the server and the web service sends the expected response data back. However, when parsing the response WCF throws a MessageSecurityException, with an InnerException.Message of "Supporting token signatures not expected." My guess is that WCF wants me to configure it to handle the signature and verify it. I have a certificate from the third party that hosts the web service that I should be able to use to verify the signature.   reading around the various ruby install tutorials it's required to change path from /usr/bin/ruby to /usr/local/bin/ruby but i cant seem to be able to do it. • Change user email in Django without using django-profiles

  Hi guys, In my Django application I would like the user to be able to change the email address. I've seen solution of StackOverflow pointing people to django-profiles. Unfortunately I don't want to use a full fledged profile module to accomplish a tiny feat of changing the users email. Has anyone seen this implemented anywhere. The email address verification procedure by sending a confirmation email is a requisite in this scenario. I've spent a great a deal of time trying to a find a solution that works but to no avail.   Hello I've a windows forms application with MS SQL Server 2005 as the back end. I have written code in the form to call few stored procedures using SqlConnection, SqlCommand objects and i properly dispose everything. I've disposed sqlcommand object by calling oSqlCommand.Dispose() But i witnessed my application consuming huge amount of memory. I basically pass large XML files as SqlParameters. I finally decided to memory profile it using RedGate Memory profiler and i noticed that the System.Data.SqlClient.SqlParameters are not disposed. Any insights on this? Thanks NLV

• Facebook FQL - How do I fetch the posts I made to a friend's wall

  I have a facebook desktop app with some test users all having granted the stream_read & offline access permissions. I can easily retrieve posts to each users' stream & profile. What I cannot do easily is retrieve posts that a user has made to one of their friend's walls. In fact, this used to work with a rather complex multiquery, but has stopped working now, or is working only intermittently... Does anyone care to share their method if one exists or discuss what restrictions there might be to this type of complex querying?

• iPhone: Application Install Fails With "Invalid Signer" Error

  The iPhone is attached to a Mac runnning the latest iTunes version and I am 100% sure that her UDID is in the provisioning file. Her iPhone has not been jailbroken and we even restored it to factory settings. I am having trouble installing our development build on this one iPhone. The error is: the application "[Application Name]" was not installed on the iPhone "iPhone" because the signer is not valid I am 100% sure that the UDID is accurately entered in the provisioning file and that they correctly copied the right provision file/build combo. This same combo has been successfully installed on over a dozen iphones. We have been able to install this on some devices with no problems. Edit: From comments to an answer: We can install it on 100 iphone with our account. We have about 40 iphones in this provisioning profile and it works on 38 of them.

The facebook sharer has 2 views: Post to profile (default view) : And when you click on "send as a Message instead you get : What I'm trying to do is to have the 2nd view (send a message) as the default one. So when the user clicks 'Share this', it would show him directly the "send a message" view. Is that even possible using facebook? or anything else? maybe executing js code after the popups opens ? • SharePoint 2010 FBA with custom form - 403 error

  I have a SharePoint 2010 site that is configured for Forms Based Auth using custom role, membership and profile providers. This works perfectly using the OOTB SharePoint 2010 FBA form (ie. under /_forms in the web app virtual directory). My problem is with a custom login form that is located in a separate folder, /Landing/Login/default.aspx. I've configured the web app to point to this form (contains an unmodified ASP.NET login control), which is rendered when the user hits the root URL. The problem comes when they submit their credentials and the form posts back for the redirection to /_layouts/Authenticate.aspx. It stops cold with a 403. If I revert back to the OOTB FBA form (using the same providers) everything works fine. Any suggestions on what could be going wrong?

• Looking for search syntax documentation for SharePoint UserProfileManager.Search Method

  Greetings - I have a SharePoint 2010 server running with the User Profile service setup to synchronize to Active Directory. I'd like to use the UserProfileManager.Search() method to return user profiles based on specific criteria. MSDN documentation for this method is here. It states that the method will return user profiles that match the specified search pattern. This is exactly what I want. However, there is no documentation on what a valid search pattern is. I've made a few guesses like "Department = 'HR'" but haven't had any luck. I can't find any other documentation or sample code. Can anyone provide samples of valid "search patterns?" Another way to return user profiles is to do a query using the FullTextSqlQuery object. We don't yet have Search setup on this server so this isn't currently an option. Thanks, Greg
