I've followed this article from steps URL: http://www.ideaexcursion.com/2009/01/05/connecting-to-oracle-from-sql-server/ plus added: TNS_ADMIN into the Server variables which point into: C:\Oracle\product\11.2.0\client_1\network\admin what is working now: TNSNAMES.ORA has been copied successfully from the other Developer wworkstation i can TNSPING into the DB instance i can connect to the database using SQLplus and perform any SQL commands i can create the DSN ONLY when using "[b]C:\Windows\SysWOW64\odbcad32.exe[/b]" the normal odbcad32 doesn't show my DSN that I have just created ? the DSN created from the above works fine from the test connection. my goal: To be able to select the Oracle connection in the Linked server object but still no effect after I restart the server. (Windows Server 2008 Enterprise 64 bit SP2). Any idea please in resolving this problem would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

• Reduce the I/O priority of Windows Backup (Windows Server 2008 R2)

  I have a PostgreSQL running on Windows Server 2008 R2 x64 box. And I have scheduled a backup everyday from the RAID 1 DB disk to a dedicated standalone disk. They are SAS 15k on Dell PERC 6i. I am using the built-in Windows Server Backup for purpose. The problem is, whenever the backup process is kicked in, the database performance is hogged. I would say almost a 10x of performance reduction. From the resource monitor, the disk queue is in the double digit range when backing up, and less than 1 during the day. The disk activity is like ~30-50MB/s during backup, so I guess the hardware is acting normally, though wbengine.exe takes up most of the portions. I think reduce the IO priority of the backup process would be an answer, but I couldn't find a way to. Tuning process CPU priority does not seems to help.

  I try to use rockmongo, to connect to our cluster. Our setup is a setup of two shards each consisting of a replicaset. I try to connect to the mongos instance and while rockmongo connects I get an error when trying to list the dbs: Execute failed:not master function (){ return db.getCollectionNames(); } This has something to do with the replica sets and everybody points to: $MONGO["servers"][$i] = array("replicaSet" => "xxxxx"); This is all fine, but I have two replicasets and as far as I understand I should connect to the mongos instance and not directly to the members of the set. So how does one use rockmongo to connect to a mongo sharded setup with replicasets?

  I've got PostgreSQL installed on a Ubuntu server and I'm trying to connect to that server using PGAdmin on a remote macbook. I've created an ssh tunnel - macbook:~postgres$ ssh -L 5423:localhost:5432 [email protected] And I can connect using psql on the macbook as expected - macbook:~ me$ psql -U postgres -p 5423 -h localhost ... postgres=# In the 'New Server Registration' window on PGAdminIII I'm entering the following credentials - Name - MyServer Host - localhost Port - 5423 Maintenance DB - postgres Username - postgres Password - <remote_postgres_password> However the connection fails - Error connecting to the server: FATAL: password authentication failed for user "postgres" Not sure what's going on here, these seem to be the same credentials I've used for psql.

  I have a test machine. Server 2008 with Hyper V MSSQL 2008 Enterprise Lets call it MACHINE A on the VM it is as well Server 2008 with another MSSQL 2008 Ent Call it VM B I setup a DB on MACHINE A then backed it up and restored following the prepare database for mirroring instructions on MSDN onto VM B. I used to be able to connect to the VM B Instance from the main test server (MACHINE A) but now I cannot for some reason. It cannot seem to find the instance at all even when I browse network databases. I can ping the VM from any computer on the network and access its shares so I know it is discoverable. Just the end of a long day maybe I am missing something here.

  Hi. We have a web server (Debian, with Apache2, PHP4 and MySQL) used in an Intranet. It's main use is to serve pages with data and graphs generated dynamically (using jpgraph) from the data stored in DB. It has worked rock solid for several years, but this week we have found that everything related to graphs is not working. This includes jpgraph and gnuplot generated figures, both dependent on library gd. Also there are no references to "gd" in phpinfo(), and any direct call to gd functions (like gd_info()) results in an error. We have tried to reinstall php4-gd (and restarting Apache) with no result. Obviously we have done something wrong, but we cannot figure out what it is. What can we have done? Is there any other diagnosis we can do to isolate the problem? Thanks.

The code would need to trigger on emails sent to a specific domain, connect to a database, check for an email related to the email sent, and Carbon-copy that email to the related email.   I have installed perl and pm_dbdmysql perl module on solaris-10. I have a perl script which makes the mysql DB connection to a diff server and runs some queries and returns the results. • verisign certificate into jboss server SSL

• MySQL doesn't talk to PHP anymore (EasyPHP)

  I've just upgraded from Windows XP to Windows 7 (64 bit) I was using EasyPHP 5.3.1 to develop my website, but since I've upgraded I can't get PHP to talk to MySQL. Even the PHPMyAdmin page doesn't load. I've tried installing the latest 64bit version of MySQL in place of the supplied version of MySQL, but that hasn't helped. The queries just don't seem to reach MySQL. I have verified that the DB for my database works by running mysql on the command line. PHPMyAdmin doesn't display an error, just a blank page.   Fail2ban 0.9 introduce database storage to save bans on restart. But I can't find out the actual mechanism of it work. There is dbpurgeage parameter which controls lifetime of old bans, defaults to 24 hours. As I see from code research, fail2ban saves a ban to the db with timeofban equals to the moment of ban being saved. Then every dbpurgeage period it removes all bans with timeofban < MyTime.time() - self._purgeAge, in other words removes all bans have been stored more than 24 hours ago. But what if an IP was banned for the month? Does all this mean that with dbpurgeage = 86400 after restart in 24 hours I will lost all bans longer than 24 hours? I just want that all my permanent bans will be preserved in any case.

  Due to my inattention, tiredness (and probably stupidity) i've run chown -R someuser:someuser / and now all your base are belongs to us the files on the server belong to one user (lol). After system restart apache, bind9, mysql, and a dozen of other applications don't start and fill their log files with permission errors. I haven't done any backups on system files, only on the db and website files... Please suggest some ways to revive my web server. I have only 2 month experience with linux, so please keep it simple...

  Will changing the computer name on which SQL Server 2008 is installed on affect SQL Server in anyway? Or will changing the computer name be transparent to SQL Server? For example: I plan to install Windows 2008 Server and naming it "BobStage". Next I will install SQL Server 2008 R2 and restore a few DB's. Finally I plan to rename the windows machine to "BobLive". Will me renaming the computer's name affect SQL Server's instance ID/name and possibly break something?

  Hello, I'm puzzled by this email message that gets quarantined by McAfee Secure Messaging Service (it's based on Postini) for no reason that I can think of. Can anyone explain to me why the final score is so low when none of the filters were triggered? Does anyone have any suggestions on how to prevent this from happening? Regards, Martin

• sql and web encoding problem

  Guys, I've got an encoding problem I believe. I have upgraded from phpBB2 to phpBB3. The old databases were in latin1, the new ones have utf8 encoding. Already during the upgrade process some rows of the DB were only read partly into the new version, because of strange characters as it turned out. When I use PHP's mb_convert_encoding() function to convert those strings to UTF8 they end up e.g. as 0x0093, i.e. they must have been some kind of double quotes. Even after doing this conversion, they still show up as 0x0093 in the browser (the squares with 0093 in them when the browser does not know what to display). Can someone explain the problem here? I'm a little confused and afraid I don't see all the dependencies that need to work to have the correct encodings and the correct display thereof...

I am frustrated of not having a good Linux GUI administration and development tool for PostgreSQL. pgAdmin III is buggy and unusable piece of... hmm, software, compared to Windows-only PostgreSQL Maestro and EMS PostgreSQL manager. phpPgaAmin does not looks promising. EMS PostgreSQL manager can work under Wine, but such setup have a number of issues. Requirements are: Table data editing and browsing for large tables (1M+), able to jump by FK or some master-slave editing, GUI filtering and so on. ER diagrams with in-place schema editing Schema editing and browsing with all useful GUI support Schema changes log to put into DB versioning (migrations script). Tabbed interface to be able to work with a number of tables and SQL queries at once. And so on. Any ideas?

  Hi All, I am currently trying to setup a MySQL Linked Server via SQL Server 2008 Express. I have tried two methods, creating a DSN using the mySQL 5.1 ODBC driver, and using Cherry Software OLE DB Driver as well. The method that I prefer would be using the ODBC driver, but both run horrendously slow (doing one simple join takes about 5 min). Is there any way I can get better performance? We are trying to cross query between multiple mySQL databases on different servers, and this seems to be method we think would work well. Any comments, suggestions, etc... would be greatly appreciated. Regards, Jeffrey

  I had an Eclipse - Galileo working fine . Suddenly it started to hang till death(eclipse crashes) when I tried to open a DB2 table form DbViewer Plugin's Db tree View . I tried many stuffs , replacing DbViewer plugin and other memory stuffs . This happens only with DBViewer. So I unziped another eclipse in another directory . But it opens the same settings,plugins and workspace of the previous eclipse .I removed the previous eclipse even the same problem exists. In simple word. • Word mergefield wildcard not correctly matching

  Hello, Below is my mergefield code: { IF { MERGEFIELD Subs_State } = "GA" "blah blah" "{ IF { MERGEFIELD CEOrgStates } = "GA" "blah blah" ""} "} I'm pulling records from a MS Access db. My goal is to check whether a record has Subs_State field matching "GA", or the CEOrgStates has the word "GA" (some records have stuff like "|FL|CA|GA|CT|KY|" (no quotes)). When I merged the docs, Word doesnt seem to be able to match with the wildcards: If I use and compare "*GA" (fields ending with GA), it works; however, the double wildcards "*GA*" dont seem to work at all. Here are the things I’ve tried: Have data in lowercase, then compare with lowercase Have data in lowercase, convert to and then compare with uppercase Do the opposite of the above 2 with uppercase data Use “*GA*” and “*ga*” (no pipe) Use different delimiters Nothing seems to work with the double wildcard matching.   Hi, I have successfully configured Windows Server 2008 Enterprise SP2 with SQL Server 2008 Enterprise SP2 all 64 bit, however when I tried to access this particular SQL Server 2008 DB instance from another SQL Server 2008 SSMS in another Windows Server 2008 it failed ? what I did is to disabled the IPv6 IP address using the regedit but still the problem hasn't been fixed even after restart ? I have enabled the named piped as well but still no luck ? any help please ? Here's the error message: " A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections.
