  Hey guys.... I have never worked on linux and dont plan on working on it either - The only command I probably know is "ls" :) I am hosting my website on Eapps and use their cpanel to setup everything so never worked with linux. Now I have this one time case - where I need to provide access to a contractor to fix the CSS issues on my website. He basically needs FTP (read/write) access to certain folders. At a high level - this is my code structure /home/webadmin/example.com/html/images /css /js /login.php /facebook.php /home/webadmin/example.com/application/library /views /models /controllers /config /bootstrap.php /home/webadmin/example.com/cgi-bin I want the new user to be able to have access to only these folders /home/webadmin/example.com/html/js /home/webadmin/example.com/html/css /home/webadmin/example.com/application/views He should not be able to view even the content of other folders including files like bootstrap.php or login.php etc If any sys admins can help me set this account up - will really appreciate it. • CRL checking problem windows 2003

  Hi all, we have CRL that is valid for 24 hours and has a next update in 12 hours. The CRL is valid from 12:12 AM to 12:12 AM and from 12:12 PM to 12:12 PM. In the logs of the CRL hosting webserver we see that one of our servers not always fetches the CRL at night, in most cases the server that missed the CRL IIS servers 403.16 on 12:13 PM. Is our following theory good: when a windows server misses fetching the CRL on it's nextUpdate but the current CRL is still valid, the fetching is not retried? This leads to a situation that when the CRL expires there is no overlap and gives a little time of 403.16 situations in IIS since the CRL is not thrusted and so all certificates are marked als unsafe? greetings, Tim

  At my start-up, we're getting to the point where we should be hosting our servers at a data center. I'd appreciate any tips and tricks y'all can offer on finding a reputable place to colocate our racks. Are there any Web sites with customer reviews of data centers or should I just be asking around at techie events? Are unlimited bandwidth plans a gimmick or becoming the norm? Is it worth establishing a redundant set of machines at a second data center from Day One? Or just do offsite back-ups? Thanks for your suggestions.

• Port Forwarding: Why do my local sites on 80 work but not those on 8080?

  I setup my router to forward port 80 to the PC hosting my web site. As a result, I am able to access this url (Don't bother clicking on it, it's just an example): http://my.url.com/ When i click on this link, it works: http://localhost:8080/tfs/web/ I also forward port 8080 to the same web server box But when I try to access this url I get the eror "Page Cannot be displayed:" http://my.url.com:8080/tfs/web/ I fwded port 8080 the same way I fwded port 80. I also turned off Windows Firewall, in case it was blocking port 8080. Any theories why port 80 works but 8080 does not?

• Original sender is not correctly identified when spam is forwarded

  I have a forwarding rule with Postfix that forwards all messages to my main email address. When a spam message is sent to one of my emails, it is forwarded but the sender is shown as being the forwarding domain, not the spammer's domain. Real example: mywebsite.com is hosted on Linode. [email protected] sends an email to [email protected] the mail is forwarded to [email protected] my email hosting (anotherwebsite.com) sees it's spam and sends a message to [email protected] and Linode reports a TOS violation. I have modified my postfix settings so I now use RBL, but if a message goes through, it may happen again. How can I prevent this to happen again? Is there some settings to change on Postfix so the original sender is correctly identified? Thanks Stephan

• Recommendations for Spam Filter

  We are currently using MxGuardDog for spam filtering. It works by pointing our MX records at their mail servers. The service seems pretty good, it keeps out the obvious spam, but I would still say it let's through mail that to me is spam, but I accept that on the surface those emails may not flag any of the universally recognised indicators for spam. If an email comes through that I believe is spam, I can login to the Web Console and blacklist the email/domain. However, 99% of the time I don't because it's inconvenient - or, should i say, it's far less convenient than a button in Outlook that allows me to report the email/domain as spam. So, what we're looking for is a similar service i.e. cloud spam filtering that has an Outlook plugin so that Administrators/Users can report spam. We are only a small company, 10 users, so cost is of course an issue for us. Many thanks dotdev

• Routing to various node.js servers on same machine

  I'd like to set up multiple node.js servers on the same machine (but listening on different ports) for different projects (so I can pull any down to edit code without affecting the others). However I want to be able to access these web apps from a browser without typing in the port number, and instead map different urls to different ports: e.g. 45.23.12.01/app - 45.23.12.01:8001. I've considered using node-http-proxy for this, but it doesn't yet support SSL. My hunch is that nginx might be the most suitable. I've never set up nginx before - what configuration do I need to do? The examples of config files I've seen only deal with subdomains, which I don't have. Alternatively, is there a better (stable, hassle-free) way of hosting multiple apps under the same IP address?

  We have a small remote office that often share data with us. I learned that the data is shared as a email attachment, but that obviously leads to versioning hell and overriding. I am looking for a way for then to synchronize a folder directly on our main office domain controller. I personally use LiveMesh, but I would like a tool that is synchronized to our server directly without a 3rd party hosting the data, since we already have an online backup service taking care of the offsite backup. What enterprise class tool would let us synchronize a folder from a remote computer that is out of our domain, into our the file server of our domain? The synchronization has to be two-way, e.g.: Someone from the remote office will create an invoice. Someone from our office will review it and make modification to it. The remote office need to see the change. Our server is on Windows 2003.

  I'm trying to administer the SMS trafic of my businesss centrally through a web portal. In Europe (except UK) we don't have a numbers/SMS trafic provider like Twilio or Clickatell, nor any build in way to administer the SMS traffic for a number via http, so I will have to buy the long numbers and administer the SMS traffic myself. For this I was looking into a hardware solution for hosting all my SIM cards - I have like 400 sims cards (= numbers). I saw that GSM modems might fit in but they don't seem to scale up very well. Could you recommend me a GSM modem? If this is not the best way to approach this, what would my alternatives be? Thanks in advance

• Ubuntu server - Problem of routing

  Hi, I have setup a Ubuntu server with Ubuntu Enterprise Cloud. The server is connected to a private LAN with DHCP and Internet access (via a gateway). At first, the server was working fine. It can ping the internet. It can also ping other machine inside LAN. The problem happened after i let the machine idle for more than 1 hour. When I want to use the machine again, I can't ping the internet anymore. I can only ping the machine inside LAN. I try to ping the server from another machine and it's working. Then, i ssh into that server from another machine, and I found that I can ping the internet from that server. It seems that there are some problems in the routing table of this server. Can anyone help me on this? Thank you. Max

• Compiling LaTeX document makes Google Drive crash

  I've the issue that when I compile a LaTeX document that is located inside my Google Drive this will after a few turns make the OSX Google Drive application crash. As this is an important document I want to keep it all the time inside the Google Drive location to ensure cloud backup but this ofcourse is not guaranteed if this makes my Google Drive crash all the time. I don't seem te be able to identify what is causing this and I was hoping that maybe some people here have any idea what might cause this? We're talking about a 8 pages document with 3 images, so nothing crazy big or complex.

• prevent search engines indexing depending on domain

  We have a dedicated server with a hosting company with a couple of dozens of webs in it. It happens that the nameservers (EG: ns1.domain.com, ns2.domain.com) ip's are coincident with some client webs, let's say webclient1.com and webclient2.com Problem is that for a certain searches in google, some results are showing up like ns1.domain.com/result instead of webclient1.com/result which is pretty wrong and annoying for our clients. Actually if you type in the browser ns1.domain.com or ns2.domain.com it will load some pageclients instead. Is there any way to prevent google to track those results only in case the robots are coming to check ns domains? It may be not correct to ask this as well, but why is it happening? is it a result of a bad server configuration? I'm pretty new on these matters, so thank you in advance for any help!

  Hi, Our requirement is to send weekly newsletters to our website customers. For which we wanted to have local hosted SMTP server in our office. We are not using SMTP server provided by website hosting provider, as we wanted to reduce the network traffic and avoid IP blocking due to bulk mails. We are sending newsletters on weekly basis from our local SMTP server. But due to some reasons, some emails are going to spam and some are not reaching to customers and sometimes there are bounce messages to follow bulk email guidelines (mainly from Gmail). Can you please suggest me, how to achieve my problem. I also wanted to know what type of technology generally Linkedin or banks uses to send notifications emails to all its customers.   I love Windows 7 Backup and Restore.. However, I kind of find it inconvenient to use external hard drive, plug it in, take it out, put it away safely etc.. Is there an online storage service to which Windows Backup can save the backup files to? Can I make Windows Backup store the backed up data to an online storage service? I do not want to manually upload the backup files. I want it to save directly to the cloud. Doesn't matter if the service costs me some $$$. I am using Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit edition.

• capistrano still asks for the 1st password even though I've set up an ssh key???

  Hi, Background: I've setup an ssh key to avoid having to use passwords with capistrano per http://www.picky-ricky.com/2009/01/ssh-keys-with-capistrano.html. A basic ssh to my server does work fine without asking for passwords. I'm using "dreamhost.com" for hosting. Issue - When I run 'cap deploy' I still get asked for the 1st password (even through the previous 2nd and 3rd password requests are now automated). It is the capistrano command that start with "git clone - q ssh:....." for which the password is being requested. Question - Is there something I've missed? How can I get "cap deploy" totally passwordless? Some excerts from config/deploy.rb are: set :use_sudo, false ssh_options[:keys] = [File.join(ENV["HOME"], ".ssh", "id_rsa")] default_run_options[:pty] = true thanks PS. • How can I remove HTTP headers with .htaccess in Apache?

  I have a website that is sending out "cache-control" and "pragma" HTTP headers for PHP requests. I'm not doing that in the code, so I'm assuming it's some kind of Apache configuration, as suggested by this question (you don't really need to go there for this question's context) I don't have anything in my .htaccess files, so it's gotta be in Apache's configuration itself, but I can't access that, this is a shared hosting, I only have FTP access to my website's directory. Is there any way that I can add directives to my .htaccess files that will remove the headers added by the global configuration, or otherwise override the directive so that they're not added in the first place? • It is possible to use the Exchange 2010 web client with an Exchange 2007 mail server?

  We are evaluating our options to upgrade our Windows SBS 2003 server. We are considering Windows SBS 2008, which comes with Exchange 2007 and an extra Windows Server 2008 Standard license. If we also bought Exchange 2010, could we install it on the Windows Server 2008 Standard machine and use the web client in combination with the Exchange 2007 server (that would be hosting the mailboxes)? Is that a supported server role for Exchange 2010? I remember reading about so called front-end server configurations, but I have no experience with that. Thanks!

• Backup Client/Server Software that Syncs only the Delta?

  I have a co-located server, and a desktop computer. I push small things and large ammounts of small files (like my iTunes) into a JungleDisk cloud. If a few files change there, no big deal, the file gets re-uped. For larger files JungleDisk backup isn't helpful. Things like movies and VMware images that change a lot, but I want backed up. Just not to JungleDisk since that would cost me even more money. I am looking for a product, closed or open source (preferably open source) that will sync the change, or delta, to my personal server on a schedule. That way I can keep a copy of my larger things, without paying JungleDisk a ton more since they are in the range of many Gigabytes. Right now these few items are backed up over FTP, and take forever. Both the client and server are windows environments.

  I have several ExtraSmall-sized Azure VMs (PaaS / Cloud Service based) that are all experiencing drifting of the Windows clock. Research showed that this is quite common, especially in VMs with shared cores. Unfortunately even after configuring the w32time service to sync with time.windows.com and forcing a resync (w32tm /resync), there seems to be a time difference of 2 seconds to the configured NTP server. Though Microsoft states that w32tm is not meant as a high-precision sync tool, a difference of 2 seconds is (IMO) quite a lot for server-activities/processing. What does one have to do to get more accurate time sync?

  Is there a way to run Apache2 or Nginx with PHP on the iPhone? Im surprised so little info is available on this topic, as it seems quite interesting to host websites on an iPhone. Consider slow 3G connections or no 3G at all, and you want to demonstrate some webapplication you wrote... hosting them on the iphone would be an awsome way to fix the speed issues with the mobile network speeds. For the Ipad there are several addoptions available, nothing much usable on iphone / nginx apache2 search terms anywhere :( I want to host some websites on my iphone for demonstration purposes. So when im "out the office" Ill be able to very fast browse some websites that I host on the Iphone. there is no decent information out there, does anyone have a lead on how to do this? My question is specific to if nginx or apache2 can be run on the iphone, it would be nice if PHP would run on it too
