• Create a table of Quantiles in R for multiple Subsets of Data

  I'm trying to create append a table of quantiles in R for multiple subsets of data. Right now, I have a vector of ids (p_ids) in table DATA, which are not consecutive. For each value in p_ids, I am looking to list the quantile. So far, I've tried variations of: i <- 1 n <- 1 for (i in p_ids) { while(n <= nrow(data)) { quantiles[n] <- quantile(subset(alldata$variableA, alldata$variableB == i),probs = c(0,1,2,3)/3) n <- n + 1 } } I know my issue lies somewhere in the index, but I can't seem to get where the index should go. • Cadr of a list involving assoc function

  I have looked around on the net and cant find an answer to my query. I would really appreciate if someone could provide a good answer without down rating this post. In Lisp car, cdr are used on data mode like '(whatever here) which makes sense to me. Now, in the book Land of Lisp the author is explaining how to build a text engine and suddenly he uses the following description to make a function. (defun describe-location (location nodes) (cadr (assoc location nodes))) Can I ask why is he doing a cadr on a list and how come it provides a response and not an error? shouldn't it be a data mode i.e with a quote in front of the opening bracket '(whatever here)? and also why is he using assoc as in (assoc location nodes) and not (assoc 'garden *nodes*) Isn't the second correct way to use assoc ? I may be missing the big picture and as such would really appreciate someone explaining these key points please. Many thanks!

• Create "INSERT" statements from mySQL database in Java

  Does anyone know of any good libraries or scripts out there which will allow me to point to any mySQL table and automatically get a list of all the INSERT statements for the data in the table? DdlUtils allows me to create an XML file from a database model but I would like to have it in INSERT statements format and preferably the ability to choose a couple of tables instead of dumping the entire database. Thanks. EDIT: I need it to be a Java API because I want to programatically call it from my Java method.

• Help with implementing a function to change size of dynamic array

  I'm trying to write a function that will change the size of a dynamic array to a new size. In my header file, I have: Image **images; //pointer to a dynamic array of image pointers int maximum; //size I want to do this by allocating a new array and copying the values over without changing their indices. If there are non-null pointers outside the range newmax, then we cant do this. So heres what I have: There are no compilation or runtime errors. However, I find that the new array isnt getting sized right. When I run the following test case: I should get an index out of bounds error, but instead the system lets it slide. Can anyone see the mistake? I've looked for hours but cant find anything.

  I have an assoc array with a list of what are parameters to me. Here's an example: array( 'param1' => 'value1', 'param4' => 'value4', 'param3' => 'value3', 'param2' => 'value2', ); Note that they may come unsorted. Now, is there a way I can make a call (static or from an instance, using call_user_func_array or similar) and correctly pass each value to each parameter? Just to be sure, an example function I'd like to call using that parameter array is one such this: exampleFunction($param1, $param2, $param3, $param4) { ... } PS: Reflection is great, but I'm concerned about execution times (which, at least, in Java tends to increase a lot when using Reflection). If you know any other way to do so, it would be awesome.

• iPhone - At user event create objects in the view

  Hello, I am new to iPhone programming, so I think part of the problem is that I don't know what I really want to google to find my answer. I am looking for a method that allows a user to draw a line on the screen. There is no guarantee that it will be straight, it can be curved or whatever. I was thinking that I could create some small square image, and then as they draw, place them into a NSset. But I am not really sure how to communicate each new object up to the view. Up to this point, I've just been messing around with objects I put on the view and then assign movement to those, this is my first jump into on-the-fly object creation. It might be that I just need to jump into a class/object type or even a tutorial, any guidance would be great. Thanks!

  I am coming back to an old Google App Engine project on which I saw a bug. During this lag, I have been upgrading my AppEngine SDK and is now set at 1.3. When I try to run the same project again, I see the following exception: java.lang.NoSuchMethodError: com.google.apphosting.api.ApiProxy$Environment.getDefaultNamespace()Ljava/lang/String; at com.google.appengine.api.NamespaceManager.get(NamespaceManager.java:56) at com.google.appengine.api.memcache.MemcacheServiceImpl.setNamespace(MemcacheServiceImpl.java:181) at com.google.appengine.api.memcache.MemcacheServiceImpl.(MemcacheServiceImpl.java:145) at com.google.appengine.api.memcache.MemcacheServiceFactory.getMemcacheService(MemcacheServiceFactory.java:25) The line causing the problem is: CacheManager.getInstance().getCacheFactory().createCache(Collections.emptyMap()); (It is the same line as suggested by the AppEngine documentation to create a memcache object. It used to work fine previously. ) Any suggestions on how to fix it?

• Using php to create a password system with chinese characters

  Hi guys, I'm having an issue with validating chinese characters against other chinese characters, for example I'm creating a simple password script which gets data from a database, and gets the user input through get. The issue I'm having is for some reason, even though the characters look exactly the same when you echo them out, my if statement still thinks they are different. I have tried using the htmlentities() function to encode the characters, the password from the database encodes nicely, giving me a working '& #35441;' (I've put a space in it to stop it from converting to a chinese character!). The other user input value gives me a load of funny characters. The only thing which I believe must be breaking it, is it encodes in a different way and therefore the php thinks it's 2 completely different strings. Does anybody have any ideas?   I have a table with some data. All data is contained in dropdownboxes and textbox. But it isn't easy to see, what is newly written input and what is data from the database. So I want to create a (edit) after these boxes, and replace the boxes with a literal where the contained value in the dropdownbox stands. When the edit-button is pushed the literal goes away and the dropdownbox appears instead, so it is possible to edit the data. This is all, the jQuery don't have to save the data to database, I have functionality to that in a save-button. I don't want to use any extra plugin to jQuery, because it seems to be a fairly simpel task. Any good ideas?

• Create set of random JPGs

  Here's the scenario, I want to create a set of random, small jpg's - anywhere between 50 bytes and 8k in size - the actual visual content of the jpeg is irrelevant as long as they're valid. I need to generate a thousand or so, and they all have to be unique - even if they're only different by a single pixel. Can I just write a jpeg header/footer and some random bytes in there? I'm not able to use existing photos or sets of photos from the web. The second issue is that the set of images has to be different for each run of the program. I'd prefer to do this in python, as the wrapping scripts are in Python. I've looked for python code to generate jpg's from scratch, and didn't find anything, so pointers to libraries are just as good.

  Is it possible to use Generics when passing a class to a java function? I was hoping to do something like this: public static class DoStuff { public <T extends Class<List>> void doStuffToList(T className) { System.out.println(className); } public void test() { doStuffToList(List.class); // compiles doStuffToList(ArrayList.class); // compiler error (undesired behaviour) doStuffToList(Integer.class); // compiler error (desired behaviour) } } Ideally the List.class and ArrayList.class lines would work fine, but the Integer.class line would cause a compile error. I could use Class as my type instead of T extends Class<List> but then I won't catch the Integer.class case above.

Where's the best place to create and store the objects? I'm coming from Delphi, where Form objects were usually stored in global variables. I'm tempted to do it in the static Program class. • Swap function for a char*

  I have the simple function below which swap two characters of an array of characters (s). However, I am getting a "Unhandled exception at 0x01151cd7 in Bla.exe: 0xC0000005: Access violation writing location 0x011557a4." error. The two indexes (left and right) are within the limit of the array.
