• How do I handle dojo datagrid cell updates so I can post them back automatically to the server?

  I am using dojo datagrid to display my data. When the end user edit the cell values it should be updated in the server using ajax calls(when the focus goes out of the cell). Else, I should have a Edit & update/cancel buttons for each row to handle the same feature. But I don know how to place edit & update buttons inside the grid and capture their events. By default dojo updates only local the store value(client side). how can I save the updated cell values into the server? do we need to write any override methods to do so?? I am new to dojo. Any detailed explanation or sample codes would be much appreciated. Could anyone lend a hand to solve this issue?? Thank you Regards, Raj

• LaTeX at symbol

  What does the @ symbol mean in LaTeX? I'm looking at the source of apa.cls, and there's a declaration: \newsavebox\gr@box and later on \sbox\gr@box{\includegraphics[width=\linewidth]{#2}}. It seems like @ isn't acting as a normal character, but I can't figure out exactly what it's doing, and couldn't find anything after bit of googling (how I would love a Google regex feature!) Thanks. EDIT: Thanks for the help; of the links I looked through I found http://www.tug.org/pipermail/tugindia/2002-January/000178.html to be very helpful and concise. To summarize, the @ character is not normally allowed in the names of macros, so as a hack for scoping, LaTeX packages declare it internally to be a valid name character and use it for their macros. You can use \makeatletter in a document to access these macros, but you obviously must be very careful since you have can now overwrite essential LaTeX kernel macros; use \makeatother to revert.

• Best Open Source Project Hosting Site

  I want to start an open source project, but the rise in hosting sites leaves me a little paralyzed with choice. I know a little about several: I never really liked SourceForge's UI but it still feels like the site I think of when I think "open source project hosting". Google Code Project Hosting looks clean and useful but doesn't seem as feature complete as SourceForge. I've heard good things about Launchpad but don't know much about it nor do I know Bazaar (though I'd be interested in learning it). I know almost nothing about GitHub and, like Bazaar, I don't know Git. Does anyone have any experience with these sites or some other cool code host? Any recommendations? • Differences in behaviour between IIS and the ASP.Net Web Development Server?

  During development, I usually test ASP.Net applications using the Web Development Server (sometimes called Cassini). Occasionally, when I publish to a real IIS environment, I notice that the application behaves differently. So, what are the differences between the way that production IIS servers and the ASP.Net Web Development Server behave? I don't mean differences in feature sets (clearly IIS has lots of features that are not present in WDS), but differences in the way they handle ASP.Net. BTW: There are a few differences noted in the responses to this question, but I am sure there must be more.

  Consider the following Business requirement. There are some templates of documents on a server (MS OFFICE format) The users should be able to edit the documents and save a copy in the server. The users SHOULD NOT be able to save a local copy. i.e That option should be not available. Do I have any feature\hack to do this with MS Office? Think about a solution like google docs without the Download options. It is ideal but needs a lot of effort to implement it.

• Question on multi-probe Local Sensitive Hashing

  Hey guys sorry to be asking this kind noob question, but because I really need some guidance on how to use Multi probe LSH pretty urgently, so I did not do much research myself. I realize there is a lib call LSHKIT available that implemented that algorithm, but I have trouble trying to figure out how to use it. Right now, I have a few thousand feature vector 296 dimension, each representing an image. The vector is used to query an user input image, to retrieve the most similar image. The method I used to derive the distance between vector is euclidean distance. I know this might be a rather noob question, but do you guys have knowledge on how should i implement multi probe LSH? I am really very grateful to any answer or response.

• how big should your controllers be in asp.net-mvc

  i see the new feature of areas in asp.net-mvc 2. it got me thinking. why would i need this? i did some reading on the use cases and it came down to a specific point to me around how big and how broad scope should my controllers should be? should i try to have many little controllers? one big controller? how do people determine the sweet spot for number of controllers? i think mine are maybe too large (which had me questioning areas in the first place as maybe my controller name should really be an area and have a number of smaller controllers)

• Zend Framework - tinyMCE - plugin folders are mistaken to be controllers? Help

  Hi guys I'm trying to integrate the tinymce plugin however I'm running into problems such that almost every feature which requires a plugin to be rendered i.e the add url popup or add image pop up - it opens an empty pop up window. Even if I try to open it inline I get the same blank popup window.. I noticed that whenever I click on lets say url button in tinymCE it opens with reference to my localhost and because of that I'm assuming my application is mistaking the containing javascript folder to be some controller or action. How can I fix this please - I've set up mod rewrite to allow clean urls as well as ignore the javascript folder but this is a different issue altogether :( what should I be looking at here.. I can't notice any error sin firebug..

A GUI and integration with Clang for static code analysis or git for version control would be convenient, but aren't necessary. I would ideally use two editors: one feature-filled IDE and one with a small memory footprint, but editors like jEdit, Geany, Diakonos, nano, etc. don't satisfy many of my needs, which include: Good support for refactoring and code completion. • Ruby CMS/blog: Mephisto vs. Radiant

  I'm looking for a blogging tool with some light CMS features in Ruby on Rails. I mainly want something simple, but configurable. I have no need for page snippets, etc. Just your basic main blog, very good (and easy) theme support, some nice sidebar stuff, a few static pages and MetaWeblog API support. I'm thinking of either using Mephisto or Radiant CMS (everything else seems half-baked or extremely lightweight at best): http://mephistoblog.com/ http://www.radiantcms.org/ Documentation for Mephisto seems very lacking and their site is a mess. I've also read some bad things about it's stability. Radiant seems more stable in comparison and has heaps of useful plug-ins. However, it isn't designed for blogging out of the box. That has to be added as almost an after thought. Creating a custom theme also seems more cumbersome with Radiant due to the sub-page/snippet feature. Which should I choose?

• Frequent Netbeans freezes

  I'm using Netbeans 6.8 for PHP projects located on network drives in a Windows network. Frequently, the IDE gets really slow (like a temporary freeze) to a point where it's totally unusable. At first it seems like a total crash, but after some time (might be sevaral minutes) the IDE works again as before. This happens with Netbeans 6.7 as well as 6.8 on my Windows XP 32-bit installation. I'm using Java 1.6.0_13. This is a fresh Netbeans installation, so it can't have to do with too many temp files. I assume it has to do with the frequent code checks that Netbeans does. It's probably not very fast when doing this over the network connection. But it can't be that this feature renders the IDE useless... • How long does a reverse DNS lookup take?

  How long should I expect a reverse lookup take? 100 milliseconds? 1 second? 10 second? 30 seconds? What's your experience? Why? We're debating adding a feature to our server software which would require a reverse DNS lookup each time a client connects. The lookup would be done synchronously, so I'm worried that it could slow connection-times down a lot. I just wanted to hear other people's experience regarding reverse DNS lookup times.

  Check out this Screenshot. Shouldn't a hierarchy list of tags appear here? Usually it appears. Sometimes, the tag "appears" there but without text (but the tag object is there as evident when you hover over it.) Other times, like this, nothing appears. It's a usual feature to see the hierarchy or tags which gives me easily access to the tags from design view for easy altering in the properties window. I think too many developers love to do things the hard way and sludge thru tags in HTML view and hardly use this, but it frustrates me when it doesn't work all the time. Is it me? Nah....

• Maven plugin in Eclipse - Settings.xml file is missing

Then tried updating the index and got the following error: Unable to update index for central|http://repo1.maven.org/maven2 While trying to edit the proxy settings through windows-preferences-maven-user settings, I realise there is no such file. • dbpedia auto-suggest labels

  Wikipedia has a auto-suggest feature on its search field. If you for instance type in "mars" it lists a few items including Mars, Marseille, Marsh. I am looking to implement something similar working off the latest DBpedia export (wikipedia in database form). If I do a search for all labels in the labels_en.nt file that DBpedia offer that begin with "mars" then, even if I remove ones that redirect on to others that are listed, I end up with a huge list. In trying to understand how wikipedia does this I noticed that I'm actually querying this URL which returns a JSON string. Now my problem is that I don't know how wikipedia narrows the list down. Perhaps it does so based on page popularity. The higher views/edits a page has the higher it goes in this suggestion box. If so, does DBpedia export this information?

• Best way to sort MySql results based on two columns and show results using pagination?

  I want to sort results set first based on one column and then based on second column. I know how to do it on server side. And then I want to show these results with pagination feature. Question: would it be better to do it on client side via ajax in jQuery? I'm using Zend Framework. Would Zend_Paginator module be useful in this scenario? • Connecting to SQL Server with Visual Studio Express Editions

  I find it odd that in Visual C# 2008 Express edition, when you use the database explorer, your options are: 1) Microsoft Access 2) SQL Server Compact 3.5, and 3) SQL Server Database File. BUT if you use Visual Web Developer 2008 Express, you can connect to a regular SQL Server, Oracle, ODBC, etc. For people developing command-line or other C# apps that need to talk to a SQL Server database, do you really need to build your LINQ/Data Access code with one IDE (Visual Web Developer) and your program in another (Visual C#)? It's not a hard workaround, but it seems weird. If Microsoft wanted to force you to upgrade to Visual Studio to connect to SQL Server, why would they include that feature in one of their free IDEs but not the other? I feel like I might be missing something (like how to do it all in Visual C#). Thanks! Tom

• Merge Microsoft Word documents with TortoiseSVN

  TortoiseSVN has a nice VBA script that allows to merge Microsoft Word documents using Word builtin change tracking functionality. This way, when I merge changes from a branch into the trunk I can resolve the conflicts in Word documents. However, the feature is not as useful as it could because it doesn't track revision changes; it just compares the two documents as a whole. This way, when I merge a revision where one paragraph was added to the document I'm not offered to review this paragraph. Instead, I have to review all the differences between the source and target documents (including stuff like TOC bookmark names). Is it an inherent limitation I cannot override? Or is it due to the fact that my Word version is pretty old? (I'm using Word 2002). Also, if you know about a magic tool or plugin... ;-)

But when I click, the vote number can not be updated immediately. • How can I learn a multitouch screen's communication protocol and write a C# application for it?

  I have got a monitor with multitouch overlay on top of it. It works fine with Windows 7 but I want to write a multitouch application in C# for Windows XP which doesn't support touch feature out of the box. There is no documentation whatsoever and I emailed the manufacturer but never got a reply. However the device works with Google Earth, which doesn't natively support multitouch, on Windows XP. So I think it generates many types of messages together i.e. WM_TOUCH for Windows 7, one for Google Earth COM API, and probably its own messages either in UDP or Windows message form. How can I trap all communications and learn the protocol?
