• Domain held at one registry, need to redirect to subdomain on my own hosting provider

  Hi, There are lots of questions around this general area, but I haven't seen one that exactly mirrors what I'd like to know. It's per the title really. My understanding (and what I'm told by my host) is the easiest thing is just to get the transfer key and bring the DNS across to my own hosting provider. Also I'm told by my host this doesn't affect the client's ownership of the domain itself. Basically, I have a subdomain setup with the site (this has the same IP address as the top level domain). So presumably just giving the other registrar that IP address will only refer it only to the TLD rather than the subdomain. What's the easiest way to achieve this? It's an asp.net site, I don't have a hosted directory on the client's account where I can code a redirect. Thanks all Mark

• Only one resolution available in Xorg.conf

  I recently upgraded to Ubuntu 12.10 and when I try to change my resolution in NVIDIA X server settings, I only get the native one (1600x900). When I had 12.04 installed, all resolutions were available in the drop down list. My goal is to have twinview working again. I used to set my two screens to twinview and clones, using my HDTV resolution (1360x768) which was previously available in 12.04 for my laptop screen too. In 12.10, I tried to install all of the NVIDIA drivers available except the nouveau driver. I tried to add a new mode using Xrandr --newmode / --addmode, but it didn't work; it coudn't detect my output. I'd like to know if this is a known bug and if there's something to do with that. • Redirect Google crawler to different robots.txt via .htaccess

  I have googled for the answer all day and still couldn't find an answer. I have a virtual subdomain www.static.example.com which is a mirror site of www.example.com. It means I have just one root folder for subdomain and domain aswell. I want to redirect crawlers to different robots.txt file - robots_static.txt when they see .static in url in which I will forbid indexing via /disallow command. I want to do this because I have duplicated content in Google search results. Subdomain is showing the exact same content as the main domain. Does anyone know how could I achieve that crawlers sees robots_static.txt instead of robots.txt? • Best database setup for one click games

  I am building a one click game website/mobile app, and I am debating between using MySQL and MongoDB for the backend. The way I have been exploring it is with a NodeJS/Express/Angular/Passport/MongoDB stack - I have also implemented Socket.io. I have gotten to the point where I am sending data from the flash game to the server (NodeJS). The only data that needs to be sent is basic user information, the players score at the end of each game, and some x,y positions for each players game (for anti-cheating). It seems like MySQL would work fine, but as I am already using MongoDB - are there any major drawbacks to continuing to work with MongoDB on this project?

• dual boot, Sony Viao, all in one portable desktop, not working and crashes

  I am a fan of Ubuntu but ever since I bought my new computers, both Sony Vaio, I can't get them running together with windows 8.1. When I try wubi, it doesn't show the install box, but some other information box. If I remove wubi from the iso and run it as admin on my desktop, it runs and installs but after rebooting, grub never comes up and it gives the error screen.. On my laptop, I had to make a usb install and partition everything myself and that worked for my laptop, for a little while. Windows boot loader would override and grub wouldn't come up no more, unless I try to boot from usb, with no usb in, and after it reboots because there is no usb, now grub opens, but doesn't cont. That is what happens with my Sony 2 in 1 laptop. My all in one portable just wont boot it period. Bios is the problem but I disabled everything that was necessary. Help

• Create many similar classes, or just one

  The goal is to create an application that has objects that can represent some operations (add, subtract, etc). All of those objects will have common functions and members, and thus will either implement an interface or inherit from an abstract class (Which would be better practice, this will be in C# if that matters?). As far as I can see, there are two different ways of organizing all of these classes. I could create an addition class, a subtraction class, etc. This has the upside of being highly modular but the difference between classes is so minimal. I could create one class, and have a member that will say what type of operation is being represented. This means lots of switch statements, and losing some modularity, in addition to being harder to maintain. Which is is better practice? Is there a better way of doing that is not listed above? If it matters, the list of functions that should be supported is long.

• How to approach multiple page form with just one save option

  The screen shot shows the magento product upload page. The left nav allows you to switch to different options for the product. Basically each option in the left nav appears as a different page. However when you save and close, it will save all the updates made on each page. Using Foundation4, html, css, js - what would be the best approach to replicating something similar? Say I want 3 pages and one save button option. Using http://foundation.zurb.com/docs/components/section.html#panel2 and having the save buttons the top line form level seems a possible option.

• Unwittingly activate wrong wireless driver and now cannot activate the correct one

  I just installed Kubuntu 10.10 on my MacBook 3,1 and found no wireless connection. Using KPackageKit I activated Broadcom b43 because it had already been selected for me. When I subsequently tried to activate Broadcom STA, however, I was returned with an error. After reading Jockey log I removed the wrong driver and reinstalled all drivers so that I can activate the correct one. It hasn't work even though KPackageKit now shows that I have installed: bcmwl-kernel-source bcmwl-modaliases broadcom-sta-common broadcom-sta-source According to the log it appears as if there are conflicts but I don't know how to rectify it. I'm completely new to the platform, just started using Kubuntu 2 days ago. I'll appreciate any advice anyone can give. Thanks.

• Creating several instances of the same object, and selecting only one

  I'm playing around with making a puzzle game, haven't done that much before I run into my first problem. Basically, I want to create a certain amount of the same object/function. But without hardcoding the different instances. I think maybe an array is a good idea? and then a for loop to push the objects in? And then I need to be able to select one of these objects by clicking on it, how would I do that? How do I know which ball in the array was clicked? A loop again? I made a jsFiddle example (you need to click the orange ball to select, then you can move it around by clicking the canvas). This is what I want to do, but with more balls. How would you solve this? Help appreciated.

• Ubuntu One slow download sync speed

  I am having problems syncing my Ubuntu One files with my Ubuntu 12.04 fresh installation. Everything went well during the setup phase. Now, I am trying to sync back in my folders in my U1 account and the transfer speed is extremely slow. I am averaging a 15kb/s transfer speed. I tried uninstalling ubuntuone-client and reinstalling it. It did not fixed the problem. Right now U1 is stuck downloading a 50mb file. It is taking forever. Any ideas? • A relatively new blog seems to be getting very poor Google indexing

In the first few weeks, it was getting indexed nicely and my GoogleWebmaster reports were showing that it was getting crawled and began ranking for some terms. Then as I kept writing, the GoogleWebmaster report thinned out and showed less and less terms that this blog ranks for. Now there are only 4 terms with one of them being my name. I'd like to ask the question again after showing an interesting and new way to use the feature. • Dual display setup - only one displayed after logon

  During boot process my desktop shows both Monitors, but after log I only get one. I'm using Ubuntu 11.10 When I go into Displays its still only shows on Monitor.   Updating the servlet version in application.properties to 2.5 has no affect on the generated web.xml. • The algorithm used to generate recommendations in Google News?

  Hi everyone. I'm study recommendation engines, and I went through the paper that defines how Google News generates recommendations to users for news items which might be of their interest, based on collaborative filtering. One interesting technique that they mention is Minhashing. I went through what it does, but I'm pretty sure that what I have is a fuzzy idea and there is a strong chance that I'm wrong. The following is what I could make out of it :- Collect a set of all news items. Define a hash function for a user. This hash function returns the index of the first item from the news items which this user viewed, in the list of all news items. Collect, say "n" number of such values, and represent a user with this list of values. Based on the similarity count between these lists, we can calculate the similarity between users as the number of common items. This reduces the number of comparisons a lot. Based on these similarity measures, group users into different clusters. This is just what I think it might be. In Step 2, instead of defining a constant hash function, it might be possible that we vary the hash function in a way that it returns the index of a different element. So one hash function could return the index of the first element from the user's list, another hash function could return the index of the second element from the user's list, and so on. So the nature of the hash function satisfying the minwise independent permutations condition, this does sound like a possible approach. Could anyone please confirm if what I think is correct? Or the minhashing portion of Google News Recommendations, functions in some other way? I'm new to internal implementations of recommendations. Any help is appreciated a lot. Thanks!

The objects I'm trying to model are: teams, players, the team-player membership, and a list of fees due for each player on a given team. So, the fees depend on both the team and the player. So, my current approach is the following: **teams** id name **players** id name **team_players** id player_id team_id **team_player_fees** id team_players_id amount send_reminder_on Schema layout ERD In this schema, team_players is the junction table for teams and players. And the table team_player_fees has records that belong to records to the junction table. For example, playerA is on teamA and has the fees of $10 and $20 due in Aug and Feb. PlayerA is also on teamB and has the fees of $25 and $25 due in May and June. Each player/team combination can have a different set of fees. • Crystal Reports from Access DB in FrontPage (plus RealPlayer integration)

  Hey guys, My boss has some interesting requirements for his next project and insists that we try to implement some Crystal Reports on our Access database (on his computer) into a FrontPage document (for ease of maintenance). After that, he wants an MP3 to be embedded using a RealPlayer widget because that's the only one that he likes. I'm not really sure how to do any of this. What's the best way to go about this? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

• Installing chrome in Centos 6.2 (Final)

  I need to install chrome in a dedicated centos server where I only access via ssh, it doesn't have X or any windows graphical stuff. I need it to be able to pack extensions using google-chrome --pack-extension. I tried adding this to /etc/yum.repos.d/google.repo [google-chrome] name=google-chrome - 32-bit baseurl=http://dl.google.com/linux/chrome/rpm/stable/i386 enabled=1 gpgcheck=1 gpgkey=https://dl-ssl.google.com/linux/linux_signing_key.pub And then yum install google-chrome-stable, but there's a huge list of dependencies problems: How can I install chrome without breaking anything else? • How can you make the copyright text in a Google Map wrap when the map is small?

  When you embed a Google Map on a web page, copyright text is included on the map. I’ve tried using jQuery to select this HTML based on its contents (using :contains()), but it doesn’t seem to work in IE 8 (which is odd, as it works fine in IE 7). Any idea what’s up with IE 8? Any other methods to achieve the same result?
