• phpMyAdmin setup issues

  I am trying to follow the tutorial here to setup the user and pass. It says there that "this section is only applicable if your MySQL server is running with --skip-show-database". First question is, how do I check if MySQl server is running with --skip-show-database? Is there any way I can access phpMyAdmin SQL query window without logging in? Otherwise I'd have to execute this SQL from command line. I am also getting this: Cannot load mcrypt extension. Please check your PHP configuration. I have added mcrypt.so to php.ini and doing the following command proves that I have it.   I was just downloading some stuff in ubuntu and snap, the connection cut and I can't even connect to my router. And the router, it still works fine, my laptop can connect wirelessly to it as usual. But my main computer (which connects to it directly through cable) can't even ping it. But when I select the combo to change the value, I can see the data and when I change the value, I can see the displayFiel! I don't understand what's the problem? • How to convert a DataSet object into an ObjectContext (Entity Framework) object on the fly?

  Hi all, I have an existing SQL Server database, where I store data from large specific log files (often 100 MB and more), one per database. After some analysis, the database is deleted again. From the database, I have created both a Entity Framework Model and a DataSet Model via the Visual Studio designers. The DataSet is only for bulk importing data with SqlBulkCopy, after a quite complicated parsing process. All queries are then done using the Entity Framework Model, whose CreateQuery Method is exposed via an interface like this public IQueryable<TTarget> GetResults<TTarget>() where TTarget : EntityObject, new() { return this.Context.CreateQuery<TTarget>(typeof(TTarget).Name); } Now, sometimes my files are very small and in such a case I would like to omit the import into the database, but just have a an in-memory representation of the data, accessible as Entities. The idea is to create the DataSet, but instead of bulk importing, to directly transfer it into an ObjectContext which is accessible via the interface. Does this make sense? Now here's what I have done for this conversion so far: I traverse all tables in the DataSet, convert the single rows into entities of the corresponding type and add them to instantiated object of my typed Entity context class, like so MyEntities context = new MyEntities(); //create new in-memory context ///.... //get the item in the navigations table MyDataSet.NavigationResultRow dataRow = ds.NavigationResult.First(); //here, a foreach would be necessary in a true-world scenario NavigationResult entity = new NavigationResult { Direction = dataRow.Direction, ///... NavigationResultID = dataRow.NavigationResultID }; //convert to entities context.AddToNavigationResult(entity); //add to entities ///.... A very tedious work, as I would need to create a converter for each of my entity type and iterate over each table in the DataSet I have. Beware, if I ever change my database model.... Also, I have found out, that I can only instantiate MyEntities, if I provide a valid connection string to a SQL Server database. Since I do not want to actually write to my fully fledged database each time, this hinders my intentions. I intend to have only some in-memory proxy database. Can I do simpler? Is there some automated way of doing such a conversion, like generating an ObjectContext out of a DataSet object? P.S: I have seen a few questions about unit testing that seem somewhat related, but not quite exact.

• Can Spring.Net function as PostSharp?

  A few months back I've discovered PostSharp, and for a time, it was good. But then legal came back with an answer saying that they don't like the licence of the old versions. Then the department told me that 2.0's price was unacceptably high (for the number of seats we need)... I was extremely disapponted, but not disheartened. Can't be the only such framework, I thought. I kept looking for a replacement, but most of it was either dead, ill maintained (especially in documentation department), for academic use, or all of the above (I'm looking at you Aspect.Net) Then I've discovered Spring.Net, and for a time, it was good. I've been reading the documentation and it went on to paint what seemed to be a supperior picture of an AOP nirvana. No longer was I locked to attributes to mark where I wanted code interception to take place, but it could be configured in XML and changes to it didn't require re-compile. Great. Then I looked at the samples and saw the following, in every single usage scenario: // Create AOP proxy using Spring.NET IoC container. IApplicationContext ctx = ContextRegistry.GetContext(); ICommand command = (ICommand)ctx["myServiceCommand"]; command.Execute(); if (command.IsUndoCapable) { command.UnExecute(); } Why must the first two lines of code exist? It ruins everything. This means I cannot simply provide a user with a set of aspects and attributes or XML configs that they can use by sticking appropriate attributes on the appropriate methods/classes/etc or editing the match pattern in XML. They have to modify their program logic to make this work! Is there a way to make Spring.Net behave as PostSharp in this case? (i.e. user only needs to add attributes/XML config, not edit content of any methods. Alternatively, is there a worthy and functioning alternative to PostSharp? I've seen a few question titled like this on SO, but none of them were actually looking to replace PostSharp, they only wanted to supplement its functionality. I need full replacement.

• Metro UsernameToken Policy

  I created a web services client prototype using api's available in weblogic 10.3. I've been told I need to use Metro 2.0 instead (it's already being used for other projects). The problem I have encounter is that the WSDL does not include any Security Policy information but a UsernameToken is required for each method call. In weblogic I was able to write my own policy xml file and instantiate my service with it (see below), however I can not seem to figure out how to do the same using Metro. My problem is that i'm using FaultContracts on my methods with a custom FaultDetail and i'm throwing manyally the faultexception but when the client receive the exception , it receives a normal SoapException instead of my FaultException that i throwed from the service side. Am i missing something ? i red a lot of threads about using faultcontracts within wcf and what i did seems to be good. • Bluetooth connect to a RS232 adapter in android

  Hello All, I am trying to use the Bluetooth Chat sample API app that google provides to connect to a bluetooth RS232 adapter hooked up to another device. Here is the app for reference: http://developer.android.com/resources/samples/BluetoothChat/index.html And here is the spec sheet for the RS232 connector just for reference: http://serialio.com/download/Docs/BlueSnap-guide-4.77%5FCommands.pdf Well the problem is that when I go to connect to the device with: mmSocket.connect(); (BluetoothSocket::connect()) I always get an IOException error thrown by the connect method. When I do a toString on the exception I get "Service discovery failed". My question is mostly what are the cases that would cause an IOException to get thrown in the connect method? I know those are in the source somewhere but I don't know exactly how the java layer that you write apps in and the C/C++ layer that contains the actual stacks interface. I know that it uses the bluez bluetooth stack which is written in C/C++ but not sure how that ties into the java layer which is what I would think is throwing the exception. Any help on pointing me to where I can try to dissect this issue would be incredible. Also just to note I am able to pair with the RS232 adapter just fine but I am never able to actually connect. • practical security ramifications of increasing WCF clock skew to more than an hour

  I have written a WCF service that returns 'semi-private' data concerning peoples name, addresses and phone numbers. By semi-private, I mean that there is a username and password to access the data, and the data is meant to be secured in transit. However, IMHO noone is going to expend any energy trying to obtain the data, as it is mostly available in the public phone book anyway etc. At some level, the security is a bit of security 'theatre' to tick some boxes imposed on us by government entities. The client end of the service is an application which is given out to registered 'users' to run within their own IT setups. We have no control over the IT of the users - and in fact they often tell us to 'go jump' if we put too many requirements on their systems. One problem we have been encountering is numerous users that have system clocks that are not accurate. This can either be caused by a genuine slow/fast clocks, or more than likely a timezone or daylight savings zone error (putting their machine an hour off the 'real' time). A feature of the WCF bindings we are using is that they rely on the notion of time to detect replay attacks etc. <wsHttpBinding> <binding name="normalWsBinding" maxBufferPoolSize="524288" maxReceivedMessageSize="655360"> <reliableSession enabled="false" /> <security mode="Message"> <message clientCredentialType="UserName" negotiateServiceCredential="false" algorithmSuite="Default" establishSecurityContext="false" /> </security> </binding> </wsHttpBinding> The inaccurate client clocks cause security exceptions to be thrown and unhappy users. If an attacker can perform some sort of replay attack, why would a clock skew window of 5 minutes be necessarily safer than 2 hours? I presume performing any attack with security mode of 'message' requires more than just capturing some data at a proxy and sending the data back in again to 'replay' the call? In a situation like mine where data is only 'read' by the users, are there indeed any security ramifications at all to allowing 'replay' attacks?

• How to load entities into private collections using the entity framework

  I have a POCO domain model which is wired up to the entity framework using the new ObjectContext class. public class Product { private ICollection<Photo> _photos; public Product() { _photos = new Collection<Photo>(); } public int Id { get; set; } public string Name { get; set; } public virtual IEnumerable<Photo> Photos { get { return _photos; } } public void AddPhoto(Photo photo) { //Some biz logic //... _photos.Add(photo); } } In the above example i have set the Photos collection type to IEnumerable as this will make it read only. The only way to add/remove photos is through the public methods. The problem with this is that the Entity Framework cannot load the Photo entities into the IEnumerable collection as it's not of type ICollection. By changing the type to ICollection will allow callers to call the Add mentod on the collection itself which is not good. What are my options? Edit: I could refactor the code so it does not expose a public property for Photos: public class Product { public Product() { Photos = new Collection<Photo>(); } public int Id { get; set; } public string Name { get; set; } private Collection<Photo> Photos {get; set; } public IEnumerable<Photo> GetPhotos() { return Photos; } public void AddPhoto(Photo photo) { //Some biz logic //... Photos.Add(photo); } } And use the GetPhotos() to return the collection. The other problem with the approach is that I will loose the change tracking abilities as I cannot mark the collection as Virtual - It is not possible to mark a property as private virtual. In NHibernate I believe it's possible to map the proxy class to the private collection via configuration. I hope that this will become a feature of EF4. Currently i don't like the inability to have any control over the collection!

  I have been struggling with this for some times.. I searched around but didnt get a solution yet. This is only an issue on production server. In my development environment, everything works just fine. I am using JQuery/Ajax to update product information based on product's Color attribute. for example, a product has A and B color, the price for color A is different from color B. When user choose different color, the price information is updated as well. When I use svcutil to generate the proxy code on the client side the generated configuration contains two endpoints which causes the client to fail. If I edit the web.config file and remove the second endpoint (with the custom binding) all works as expected. • Any way to simulate MouseOver in WPF

  I'm working on a link control in WPF which fits the text with icon links case in the Windows UX Guide. What I want is to have some text within a hyperlink that appears to the right of some image. In my case I started off by using a TextBlock that contained a Hyperlink which then contained my image and some text. <TextBlock> <Hyperlink> <Rectangle Height="16" Width="16" Fill="{StaticResource MyIconBrush}" Stretch="UniformToFill" VerticalAlignment="Center" HorizontalAlignment="Left" /> <Run>My link text</Run> </Hyperlink> </TextBlock> The problem with this however was that the image being taller than my text produced an effect where the text was aligned to the bottom. Unfortunately I haven't found any way to control the vertical alignment within the TextBlock or within the Hyperlink so I've resorted to attempting an alternative layout where the Hyperlink and the Rectangle that represent my vector icon are separated in order to get them to align properly like shown below. <TextBlock> <Hyperlink> <StackPanel Orientation="Horizontal"> <Rectangle Height="16" Width="16" Fill="{StaticResource MyIconBrush}" Stretch="UniformToFill" VerticalAlignment="Center" HorizontalAlignment="Left" /> <TextBlock VerticalAlignment="Center"><Hyperlink>My link text<Hyperlink></TextBlock> </StackPanel> </Hyperlink> </TextBlock> The problem with this however is that now that my Icon and my Hyperlink are separated I don't get my MouseOver appearance of my link when I the mouse is over my icon and vise-versa. So this got me to thinking, how do I simulate MouseOver for a given control such with a checkbox where you get the MouseOver effect on the box when you actually mouse over it's associated text. I know in the HTML world the label element has a for attribute that can be used to specify which control it is labeling which will basically do what I'm looking for. Also I can imagine that in other scenarios it may be nice to have a label that when you mouse over shows a corresponding text box as if the mouse is over it and possibly when clicked focus is given to the corresponding text box as well. For now though I'm interested mainly in how to to get a label or label like element in WPF to act as a proxy for a given control in terms of it's MouseOver state. Also I would like to do this purely in XAML if possible.

• HTTP 400 Bad Request error attempting to add web reference to WCF Service

  I have been trying to port a legacy WSE 3 web service to WCF. Since maintaining backwards compatibility with WSE 3 clients is the goal, I've followed the guidance in this article. After much trial and error, I can call the WCF service from my WSE 3 client. However, I am unable to add or update a web reference to this service from Visual Studio 2005 (with WSE 3 installed). The response is "The request failed with HTTP status 400: Bad Request". I get the same error trying to generate the proxy using the wsewsdl3 utility. I can add a Service Reference using VS 2008. Any solutions or troubleshooting suggestions?   I develop a program which connect to a web-server through network every thing works fine until I try to use some dongle to protect my software. the dongle has network feature too and it's API work under network infrastructure. when I added the Dongle checking code to my program I got this error: "Either the application has not called WSAStartup, or WSAStartup failed" I don't have any idea what is going on? • RSpec mocking a nested model in Rails - ActionController problem

  Hi All I am having a problem in RSpec when my mock object is asked for a URL by the ActionController. The URL is a Mock one and not a correct resource URL. I am running RSpec 1.3.0 and Rails 2.3.5 Basically I have two models. The NotesController correctly handles the Mock Subject object, and create! the new Note object. However when the NoteController#Create method tries to redirect_to I get the following error: NoMethodError in 'NotesController should create note and redirect to subject without javascript' undefined method `spec_mocks_mock_url' for #<NotesController:0x1034495b8> Now this is caused by a bit of Rails trickery that passes an ActiveRecord object (@subject, in our case, which isn't ActiveRecord but a Mock object), eventually to url_for who passes all the options to the Rails' Routing, which then determines the URL. My question is how can I mock Subject so that the correct options are passed so that I my test passes. I've tried passing in :controller = 'subjects' options but no joy. Is there some other way of doing this? Thanks...

• How to create JPA EntityMananger in Spring Context?

  I have a JPA/Spring application that uses Hibernate as the JPA provider. In one portion of the code, I have to manually create a DAO in my application with the new operator rather than use Spring DI. When I do this, the @PersistenceContext annotation is not processed by Spring. That is, there is no Map argument to the createEntityManager() call. Perhaps it is another problem entirely however....not sure!
