• Picture syncing on Multiple Macs, iPhones, and iPad together so each device can update them all

  Hello! One of the owners of my company has put me to task to sync his pictures between the following devices together. (2) iPhones (2) iMacs (1) Macbook Air (1) iPad Here is what is happening 1) He has a camera that can upload pictures into iPhoto in either (1) of his iMacs, or Macbook Air. 2) He has (2) different iPhones. And here are how they are paired up iPhone - iMac Home iPhone - Macbook Air 3) He has MobileMe syncing Calendar, Contacts, and Notes across all devices 4) Currently we are using MobileMe web galleries to sync all photos, by having ME create each album and upload them to the MobileMe web gallery. Not the problem is. He wants to just take pictures, and once he does that it syncs with all his devices, he'll even dock the iPad. Is there a better way to sync photos between all devices?

• Using Excel data in Microsoft Publisher

  I have never worked in Microsoft Publisher. To build the presentation we're having to input the same information from a microsoft excel master. For instance- My excel has these columns: Item Title, Item Description, Item Dimensions, Notes, Created Date From there, I'm having the RE-type the information underneath a picture of the item in powerpoint (or publisher) in order to present to the client. So I'm retyping the item name, description, dimensions, etc. I'm also reformatting slides each time I do this. I know there's a way to streamline this process, to build a powerpoint and/or something in publisher that will bring in the data needed based on a merge (or maybe macro), but I haven't been able to figure out how. Any suggestions?

• HP UX can not boot from Ignite Tape

  We have hp rp2470 server running hp-ux 11.00, with LVM mirroring. As for redundancy we have second rp2470 same hw (same two processors, same ram, same two hdd’s, same number of lan cards). I want to clone first one to the second. For that purpose I am making ignite tape with the following command: make_tape_recovery -x inc_entire=vg00 Ignite tape finishes without problems. When I boot second server from this ignate tape, server is starting to boot, and ignite restore finishes without any errors, only few notes, which are normal. However vmunix is not booting and when restore finishes, it boot to ISL prompt. From this I cannot boot /stand/vmunix. I tried to run recovery shell but no success. When recovery shell ask to do frecover to restore critical files, then I receive error: frecover(5405): unable to open /dev/rmt/0m At first I thought that the problem might be in the difference of the firmware version of the servers: fw version of production server is: Firmware Version 43.50 and fw version of backup server is: Firmware Version 42.19 So i did a fw upgrade of my backup server so that both servers are v43.50, and tried a recovery but again cant boot the system. Next I did another archive tape with -I (Interactive) flag: make_tape_recovery -I -x inc_entire=vg00 and tried recovery with it, again no good. I cannot find any error or warnings on ignite log, and I cannot boot hpux. I am only on ISL prompt. • Excel 2007 | Remove blank fields from pivot tables

  Every time I create a pivot table (available for all Excel versions) I get one or several blank fields. How can I get rid of them? One workaround I used was to select the blank field, right click | Filter | Hide Selected Items. This can solve my problem but I need to do it manually... Is there a way to automatically hide/exclude the blanks?

• Should I upgrade my LinkSys WRT54GL firmware?

  I have a LinkSys WRT54GL v1.1 which currently has stock firmware version 4.30.7. I see that version 4.30.14 is available. The router works fine now, and the release notes look uninteresting except for one line in v4.30.9: "Resolves issue with Linux kernel vulnerability". I have remote management turned off. I'm aware of the 3rd-party firmwares but the stock firmware works fine for me at the moment, so I don't have an interest in those. Is the status quo fine or should I upgrade the firmware? (It's a bit of a pain since the config has to be saved and reloaded, and obviously any mucking with firmware is risky.)

• How to use an USB digitizer?

  Hello, i am in China now, and when i saw an USB digitizer (resistive), i bought it, thinking that i could be used as a mouse. When i connect it to my windows 7 rc1 laptop, the system properties says "pen input available" But, nothing happens when i touch the panel... i installed the bundled drivers, in chinese only, and NOT in unicode (so the text is garbled) When i install the driver, i get access to a special key on the tablet, "switch from pen input to mouse", and the driver will move the pointer according to the position on the tablet. (but no click) If i use the "pen mode", the computer will use a special chinese IME that is very awkard, i want to use the microsoft ime, and be able to draw/take notes on the screen There are "generic" drivers? Or just a plain mouse driver that will click when i press on the surface The tablet name is "qiancai"

• Too many processes?

  VMware Fusion v3.0.1 One vm for Windows XP, converted and recently expanded the disk size. Mac OS X 10.5.8, 2 x 3 GHz dual-core intel xeon machine. Immediately after booting, and before VMware Fusion is launched, the Activity Monitor shows eight processes associated with "vm". What caught my eye is the duplicates: netifup and dhcpd. I noticed this while trying to re-establish network connectivity after the upgrade to 3.0.1. I am not sure when the network connection was clobbered, so I cannot say it happend during the upgrade. Is eight processes typcial? I expect about six, as listed in other notes and documents on the web site. Could this be related to the failure to connect to the network?

• Can I automatically login to ssh using passwords from OS X keychain?

  I need to login to an ssh server which doesn't support key based authentication. And I don't want to type the passwords every time. I am using OS X Lion (10.7.2). I have added the passwords to the OS X keychain[1]. Now I can retrieve the password automatically from the keychain using /usr/bin/security, however I can't find a way to send this password to the ssh prompt. I also tried sshpass. However when I try to run it ssh exits with the following error: ssh_askpass: exec(/usr/libexec/ssh-askpass): No such file or directory Permission denied, please try again. ssh_askpass: exec(/usr/libexec/ssh-askpass): No such file or directory Permission denied, please try again. ssh_askpass: exec(/usr/libexec/ssh-askpass): No such file or directory Permission denied (publickey,password). Is there anyway I can login to this server without having to enter the password every time? • dd-wrt router firmware QoS troubleshooting

  I've been using the dd-wrt firmware on my router and I like it a lot! But -- I'm not sure the quality of service (QoS) is working on it. I have it set up as follows: http, port 80 -- Premium bittorrent, port 6969 -- Bulk https, port 443 -- Premium dns, port 53 -- Premium Per the QoS documentation, these levels are: bandwidth is allocated based on the following percentages of uplink and downlink values for each class: Exempt: 100mbps - ignores global limits. Premium: 75% - 100% Express: 15% - 100% Standard: 10% - 100% Bulk: 1.5% - 100% This doesn't entirely seem to work, though -- with busy torrents going I get major pauses in my web browsing which sucks! The QoS documentation gives some steps to check the QoS ... What you'll be interested to look at will be the first set of source and destination IP, including the port numbers. Next the presence of l7proto and the "mark" field. The entries indicate the current live connection QoS priority applied on them based on the "mark" field. The "mark" values correspond to the following Exempt: 100 Premium: 10 Express: 20 Standard: 30 Bulk: 40 (no QoS matched): 0 You may see "mark=0" for some l7proto service even though they are in configured in the list of QoS rules. This may mean that the layer 7 pattern matching system didn't match a new or changed header for that protocol. Custom service on port matches will usually take care of these. • Why won't Mail sync To Do/Tasks with Exchange?

  I'm using Apple Mail (Snow Leopard, everything is fully up-to-date), and am happily using an Exchange 2007 server for email needs, but I can't get it to synchronise the To Do notes from Mail with the Tasks from Exchange. I've tried creating a task in each and neither of them went to the other side. Bizarrely I have a single task from before I actually upgraded to Snow Leopard that did get into Mail from Exchange. Right-clicking on the Inbox and hitting 'Get Account Info' in Mail reports the correct number of entries in the 'To Do' folder for 'Messages on Server'.

  I am setting up an Exchange 2010 SP2 for a customer. However, the server address that the server returns with autodiscover is wrong, as it points to the internal domain (.local) - and not the external address. How do I change this? Here's an image to describe what I mean: It is the upper field that is wrong. I dont want users to enable the RPC over HTTP-thing, as the users know barely nothing about computers. • Creating a vm using Hyper-V causes the host of BSOD

  Hi, Problem description: When I try to create a virtual machine, the host bsod part way through the process. From the logs in lookes to fail/hang on the "Creating new VirtualDisckDriver with new VHD" step. The BSOD error code is SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION : STOP:0x0000003B When the machine has finished restarting, it looks to have created the vhd and XML files for the vm but it isn't accessable. I have two server bothing behaving in exactly the same way, so I don't believe it's a hardware fault. Has anyone had a similar experince? How did you resolve the problem? • How can I install my installed linux on another hardware too?

  Hi. It's my state: I installed some apps on a linux server(ubuntu). Apps stack are development tools: -some of Atlassian product -SVN, USVN -Maven, Artifactory -Tomcat & ... My problem: I want to create a bootable dvd to be able to restore same state(OS, configuration and apps) on another hardware(server). Some notes: I prefer ubuntu but my linux can be a different distributions if needed. w I prefer final result (bootable dvd) be simple and easy to use as installing a linux(ubuntu). I prefer a bootable DVD but if it's not possible, any other solution like partial backup/package even if needed to install first OS and then apply the package/backup/... can be good. • Phpmyadmin mysql foreign key problem

  Hey guys i'm using phpmyadmin (php & mysql) and i'm having alot of trouble linking the tables using foreign keys. I'm getting negative values for the field countyId (which is the foriegn key). However it is linking to my other table fine and it's cascading fine. • Indexing text file content with command line query

  I take daily notes in a plaintext file labeled with date in the YYYYMMDD format. These files are no more than 100 lines long, and are written in a blog style format. I'd like to be able search these files as if they were blog posts indexed by google, with some phrase query returning the most relevant/recent date filenames, with a snippet containing the relevant part. Ideally it would be something like this: #searchindex "laptop no sound" returns: 20100909.txt: ... laptop sound isn't working... 20100101.txt ... sound is too loud... debating what laptop to buy... and so on and so forth. I'm working on a linux platform (Debian with GNOME). I've looked at beagle and tracker, but they just seem complete overkill for what I want.

• Has anyone managed to install Office Webapps on SharePoint 2010, on Windows 7 ?

  I've installed SharePoint 2010 as a development environment on my Windows 7 x64 environment (notes here) and would like to install Office Web Apps onto it also. However, when trying to install (following this link), I get an error saying that Web roles aren't installed. The error message in the log file is: Start C:\Windows\system32\ServerManagerCmd.exe -whatif -inputpath C:\Users\nickh\AppData\Local\Temp\PRE1.tmp.XML Error: Failed to start process for file: C:\Windows\system32\ServerManagerCmd.exe arguments: -whatif -inputpath C:\Users\nickh\AppData\Local\Temp\PRE1.tmp.XML ErrorCode: 2(0x2). Which is effectively saying that ServerManagerCmd is not found. It isn't on my machine as it is deprecated and replaced by Powershell functions, but is on Server 2008 R2. I've tried copying that over and it just fails to run. Is there a way to get Office WebApps installed on Win7 ? Is there a way to get a working version of ServerManagerCmd.exe on a Windows 7 x64 environment ? Many thanks

• How to "ignore" username and password prompt in net use

  I have at the moment a logon.cmd script, that I'm using to map network drives to the users profile. It looks like this: ::Onboarding net use m: /delete net use m: \\BOB\onboarding ::Bookings net use n: /delete net use n: \\BOB\bookings ::Accounts net use j: /delete net use j: \\BOB\accounts It works fine up until it gets up to a folder that the current user cannot access, it then asks for a username and password instead of erroring and continuing. Notes: This very script used to work on another Samba PDC network, but I've moved it over to another server (Still Samba PDC) and now its breaking. Is there anyway for it to ignore the username/password prompt and just continue?

• Exchange enrypted messages with a single recipient [portable]

  I need to exchange encrypted messages with another party. These would be in the form of email like communication (not instant chat). The solution needs to be portable (USB stick). I've tried "Portable Thunderbird/Enigmail/Gnupg/Hotmail account" but it's just impossible to setup portable, countless meaningless error messages. Anyway, I would prefer something more straightforward. Notes: We won't know each others IP addresses. Our computers will often be switched off. Encryption would ideally be using a common password. Is there a solution to this?
