• ASP.net Literal or Page altering HTML string, causing formatting issues

  We have a service that generates a report (using word templates and a 3rd party library), and then returns a string in HTML. While this HTML isn't great - its formatted correctly in this string. We want this HTML to show up on a page - format intact. What we currently have done is set an ASP.net Literal's text element to this string. While this works, I have noticed that it has reformatted the HTML string slightly. For the most part, it looks like it generated a bunch of new CSS classes, and a new style element in the HTML. This HTML does not exist in the string thats being returned. I could filter all of this back out, but wonder if there is a better way. I assume that the Page itself is altering something. What is the best way to display this raw HTML back to the user? I can't directly use a Response.Write(string), because this page does have a few other controls on it.

  The application that I'm currently working on has a funky set up for the invoices that they print. The form is the invoice that is printed out. I took a look at the Northwind DB and what it does is and it actually generates a report based on the record's information. What are the limitations of using Forms vs. Reports for printing out reports? One of the limitations that I've run into so far is that the printed page is jam packed with information (all required) to fit on a single page, yet there is lots of wasted space for some stuff since elements on the page don't shrink or grow due to what's inputted into the textboxes. How are invoices designed for your applications? How do you handle space restraints for creating invoices?

• C++/MFC: Handling multiple CListCtrl's headers HDN_ITEMCLICK events

  I'm coding an MFC application in which i have a dialog box with multiple CListCtrls in report view. I want one of them to be sortable. So i handled the HDM_ITEMCLICK event, and everything works just fine .. Except that if i click on the headers of another CListCtrl, it does sort the OTHER CListCtrl, which does look kind of dumb. This is apparently due to the fact that headers have an ID of 0, which make the entry in the message map look like this : ON_NOTIFY(HDN_ITEMCLICK, 0, &Ccreationprogramme::OnHdnItemclickList5) But since all the headers have an id of zero, apparently every header of my dialog sends the message. Is there an easy way around this problem ?

• Use Tomcat with Java SecurityManager?

  I'm writing a web application that is supposed to run on Tomcat on Ubuntu. On Ubuntu, Tomcat is per default configured to run with the Java SecurityManager. Besides my own web application, there will only be some well known third party web applications related to my own, like the BIRT report engine. If one of the web applications fails or gets compromised, it may take down all the others without harm, because they all belong together. What I don't wont to happen is that a compromised web app compromises the system itself, like calling rm -r / Do I need to use the java security manager to achieve this? Or is it only necessary to protect one web app from the other? I'd really like to prevent the effort to create .policy files for all the 3rd party web applications I intend to use.

• Is it possible to take a screenshot of a web page with Javascript or HTML5/Canvas?

  Is there a way I could insert some code into a page that would take a screenshot of what the user sees in the browser window, then upload that image via a web form of some sort? I'm working on a clone of a pay-to-use service that lets you install a widget on a web page which in turn allows viewers to report bugs in the sites layout. Currently they use a Java applet to take the screenshot, which, in my opinion, is probably the worst way to go about it (aside from requiring the user to install a plugin) Is there a javascript/flash/other alternative? • Python - question regarding the concurrent use of `multiprocess`.

  I want to use Python's multiprocessing to do concurrent processing without using locks (locks to me are the opposite of multiprocessing) because I want to build up multiple reports from different resources at the exact same time during a web request (normally takes about 3 seconds but with multiprocessing I can do it in .5 seconds). My problem is that, if I expose such a feature to the web and get 10 users pulling the same report at the same time, I suddenly have 60 interpreters open at the same time (which would crash the system). Is this just the common sense result of using multiprocessing, or is there a trick to get around this potential nightmare? Thanks

• Using setSourceType with image picker up hides status bar

  I am pretty sure this is a bug but I thought I would check. I used the camera overlay to add a button so that on the iphone a user can switch from the camera view to the photo library. When button is taped the source type switches fine but the status bar is missing from the photo library. Throughout the rest of that session the status bar remains missing from all views evet thougth isStatusBarHidden reports NO. This is how the camera overlay view is created if (cameraOverlayView == nil) { [[NSBundle mainBundle] loadNibNamed:@"CameraOverlayView" owner:self options:nil]; } If camera is available this is when I set source type and add overlay if ([UIImagePickerController isSourceTypeAvailable:UIImagePickerControllerSourceTypeCamera]) { [imagePicker setSourceType:UIImagePickerControllerSourceTypeCamera]; [imagePicker setCameraOverlayView:cameraOverlayView]; } Here is the action statement to change source type. (IBAction)selectImage; { [imagePicker setSourceType:UIImagePickerControllerSourceTypePhotoLibrary]; } If I don't tap the button on the overlay there is no problem with the status bar. PS. I did submit a bug report on this.

• How to handle model state errors in ajax-invoked controller action that returns a PartialView

  I have a POST controller action that returns a partial view. Everything seems really easy. but. I load it using $.ajax(), setting type as html. But when my model validation fails I thought I should just throw an error with model state errors. But my reply always returns 500 Server error. How can I report back model state errors without returning Json with whatever result. I would still like to return partial view that I can directly append to some HTML element. Edit I would also like to avoid returning error partial view. This would look like a success on the client. Having the client parse the result to see whether it's an actual success is prone to errors. Designers may change the partial view output and this alone would break the functionality. So I want to throw an exception, but with the correct error message returned to the ajax client.

• DbMetal chokes on repeated foreign key references in SQLite - any ideas?

  I've been struggling to get DbMetal to process my SQLite database. I finally isolated the problem. It won't allow a table to have two foreign key references to the same column. For example, a SQLite database with these two tables will fail: CREATE TABLE Person ( Id INTEGER PRIMARY KEY, Name TEXT NOT NULL ); CREATE TABLE Match ( Id INTEGER PRIMARY KEY, WinnerPersonId INTEGER NOT NULL REFERENCES Person(Id), LoserPersonId INTEGER NOT NULL REFERENCES Person(Id) ); I get this error: DbMetal: Sequence contains more than one matching element If I get rid of the second foreign key reference, no error occurs. So, this works: CREATE TABLE Match ( Id INTEGER PRIMARY KEY, WinnerPersonId INTEGER NOT NULL REFERENCES Person(Id), LoserPersonId INTEGER NOT NULL ); But I really need both "person" columns to reference the person table. I submitted a bug report for this, but I could use a workaround in the meantime. Any ideas?

• Zend Framework command line see errors

  I'm using a method outline by gregor (http://stackoverflow.com/questions/143320/create-cronjob-with-zend-framework) to create command line execution for parts of my application such as cron jobs, admin tasks, and the like. It works, however, no errors get reported when I create a new object that has not been defined (misspelling) and other such mistakes. I would have thought that php would report an error, but it fails silently. What is the reason for this? Is there a better way to achieve my goal? Or how can I implement this so that I can see errors? Many thanks! • Java URLConnection Timeout

  I am trying to parse an XML file from an HTTP URL. I want to configure a timeout of 15 seconds if the XML fetch takes longer than that, I want to report a timeout. For some reason, the setConnectTimeout and setReadTimeout do not work. Here's the code: URL url = new URL("http://www.myurl.com/sample.xml"); URLConnection urlConn = url.openConnection(); urlConn.setConnectTimeout(15000); urlConn.setReadTimeout(15000); urlConn.setAllowUserInteraction(false); urlConn.setDoOutput(true); InputStream inStream = urlConn.getInputStream(); InputSource input = new InputSource(inStream); And I am catching the SocketTimeoutException. • Comparing two collection lists

  I've been at this for few hors now and can't seem to find a solution. I have 2 invnetory lists, one a spreadsheet and the other data table. I need to match the spreadsheet agains the data table to find out if I have missing inventory. The spreadsheet should match with what I have in the db, ie the spreadsheet is like a master so when I have missing inventory in DB I need to add it an list and build a report. I thought by looping throught the spreadsheet and for each inventory in the spreadsheet loop through the data table I can achieve my goal but that proved to be wrong. Any ideas how I would do this? • Replacement for Azure SDK Powershell commandlets for deployments

  Hi, We've run into an issue with the New-Deployment Azure Powershell commandlet timing out; we've put in a bug report with MS. While they gave us an explanation for it (the path and timeout threshold used to upload through commandlets is different then what's used by the web portal); they don't have a fix for us. We need to get this running so we can automate our build deployments, so we're looking into developing a custom commandlet to replace New-Deployment using the Azure SDK; hoping this path will not have the timeout issues the commandlet did. But before we go down that route; are there any other scriptable tools I can use to replace the New-Deployment functionality? I looked at Cloudberry for Windows Azure; but that doesn't have a scriptable interface yet. Any constructive input is greatly appreciated.

• W3 Validation errors..

  I have 12 errors, but some are just pure non existent. Doctype: <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd"> Here's the error report, but the "duplicate specification of attribute "value"" simply isn't true according to my .tpl: {textfield class="quetext" value="Epost*" onblur="if(this.value=='') this.value='Epost*';" onfocus="if(this.value=='Epost*') this.value='';"} Also, does a textarea require the attribute "rows" and "cols"? I thought that was only for tables? And I don't understand what the two errors at the end mean: Line 586, Column 80: Attribute value redefined... Please help! Thanks :) (Sorry if things chop and change, I'm working on the valdiation now, to tidy up as many errors as possible.)

• Bash: Check if file was modified since used in script

  I need to check in a script if a file was modified since I read it (another application can modify it in between). According to bash manual there is a "-N" test which should report if a file was modified since last read. I tried it in a small script but it seems like it doesn't work. #!/bin/bash file="test.txt" echo "test" > $file cat $file; if [ -N $file ]; then echo "modified since read"; else echo "not modified since read"; fi I also tried an alternative way by touching another file and using if [ "file1" -nt "file2 ]; but this works only on a seconds accuracy which may under rare conditions not be sufficient. Is there any other bash-inbuilt solution for this problem or I do really need to use diff or md5sum?

I have... var gillsans = { src: '/resources/swf/gillsans.swf' }; sIFR.activate(gillsans); sIFR.replace(gillsans, { selector: 'h1', css: '.sIFR-root { background-color: #FFFFFF; color: #000000; text-transform:uppercase; }' }); which is displaying regular Gill Sans, the light version has been exported with the swf (said so in the export report), but how do I get it to display in sifr?

• BIRT Viewer with Rails App

  Has anyone tried using BIRT for reporting on a Rails app.. I am working on a pretty big app on ROR. I was trying to get BIRT to work happily with the app. Since the BIRT Report Designer cannot be used with Rails, I decided to use BIRT Viewer alone and give the links to the reports on the page and have BIRT Viewer running on Tomcat on the same box to render the reports. This has a big problem of not being able to allow the user to create any custom reports. Has anybody tried anything even remotely close to this??? If yes do you have any tips for me on any part of this endeavor? Thanks in advance for all the help.

  At work we currently have a custom in-house built winforms app for the business users to view reports. It has role-based security and several administrator functions. My boss is thinking about getting me to port this app to webforms. My question is, are there options other than custom built winforms and webforms apps for deploying/viewing/administrating Crystal Reports at an enterprise level (role-based security, easy report deployment, etc)? I'm thinking about third-party packages or perhaps applications provided by Microsoft/Business Objects/SAP? We are using Crystal Reports 11.5.

• MSBuild Starter Kits - i.e. Copy and just start modding...

  Hi guys Just wondering if anyone knows if there are any MSBuild starter kits out there. What I mean by starter kits is that from the looks of it most builds to kinda the same sort of steps with minor changes here and there (i.e. most builds would run test, coverage, zip up the results, produce a report, deploy etc). Also what most people in general want from a CI build, test build, release build is mostly the same with minor changes here and there. Now don't get me wrong i think that most scripts are fairly different in the end. But I can't help but think that most start out life being fairly similar. Hence does anyone know of any "starter kits" that have like a dev/CI/test/release build with the common tasks that most people would want that you can just start changing and modifying? • WebSocket support on mobile devices

  For an Android multiplayer game's communication between players I'm using a WebSocket server and TooTallNate's Java library on the client side to enable WebSocket support in the Android app. So just to point it out clearly, WebSocket support in mobile browsers is not important to me. Unfortunately, users report that they're experiencing problems such as connection failures or unreceived messages. Is that a general problem of WebSockets on mobile devices (blocked ports, firewalls, mobile Internet connection) or is that probably a flaw in the client side code? Do you have experience with WebSocket client libraries such as the one above? I've just discovered autobahn.ws for Android - but I don't know if it's worth switching from my current library (see above). What about WAMP? Is WebSocket technology not exactly the adequate solution so that I should use the sub-protocol (?) WAMP?

A typical child specification is as follows: {my_server, {my_server, start_link, [123]}, permanent, 5000, worker, [my_server]} No problems so far. I now want to an add extra gen_server to the supervisor structure, using the same module Module/Fn as above, but different arguments, eg {my_server_2, {my_server, start_link, [123]}, permanent, 5000, worker, [my_server_2]} I thought this would work, but no: =SUPERVISOR REPORT==== 15-Apr-2010::16:50:13 === Supervisor: {local,my_sup} Context: start_error Reason: {already_started,<0.179.0>} Offender: [{pid,undefined}, {name,my_server_2}, {mfa,{my_server,start_link,[]}}, {restart_type,permanent}, {shutdown,5000}, {child_type,worker}] Do the module arguments in the second element of each child specification need to be different ? • Facebook redirect after login not working when url is dynamic

  This is my code: $loginUrl = $facebook->getLoginUrl(array( 'scope' => 'publish_actions', 'redirect_uri' => 'http://mysite.com/', )); It works but if I remove redirect_uri it doesn't work anymore. $loginUrl = $facebook->getLoginUrl(array( 'scope' => 'publish_actions' )); According to Facebook domcumentation redirect_uri is optional. https://developers.facebook.com/docs/reference/php/facebook-getLoginUrl/ Im trying to redirect the users to the same url they were on before logging in. Update: This problem occurs when the url is mysite.com/post23 but when url is mysite.com/staticpage or mysite.com there are no problems Any workarounds? EDIT: It looks like a bug, it doesn't work with certain url in the same site I wil try and report it to Facebook.
