  • Java swing center JDialog over parent

    I have a Java swing application with a button that produces a popup window when a certain action is performed. I'd like to align the center point of the popup window with the center point of the parent window when it is rendered. How can I calculate the x,y coordinates to plug into setLocation() for the popup window? EDIT: just to clarify. I do not want the behavior of setLocationRelativeTo() because that sets the top-left pixel of the popup over the center pixel of the parent frame. I want to set the center pixel of the popup over the center pixel of the parent frame. Also, I'm not interested in whether or not a popup window is good practice. I'm past that now. thanks

  • Java exception translations

    Apologies if this has been discussed on other threads but I find it helps clarify my thinking when I am forced to write down my questions. I am trying to properly understand the concept of checked vs unchecked exceptions and exception translation in Java but I am getting confused. So far I understood that checked exceptions are exceptions that need to be always caught in a try/catch block otherwise I get a compile time error. This is to force programmers to think about abnormal situations that might happen at run time (like disk full etc). Is this right? What I did not get was why we have unchecked exceptions, when are they useful? Is it only during development time to debug code that might access an illegal array index etc? This confusion is because I see that Error exceptions are also unchecked as is RunTimeException but its not clear to me why they are both lumped together into an unchecked category?

  • how to generate XML (in String representation) in java

    I have defined a java class, but only need to output some of the fields of this class into an XML. The returned type must be a String. I first opted for the easiest way using a StringBuffer. However, when I tried to process the output String represenation, it failed. I think it is mostly likely because there are some characters that are not encoded in the UTF-8 in the input. Could someone tell me what is the best way to handle this? Thanks.

  • Debugging in netbeans (java)

    I have been asking this myself for a while. Debugging in visual studio goes smooth. But when i debugg in Netbeans(java) i find myself more then half of the time browsing trough the system code itself. This makes it almost unpossible for me to detect hard to find bugs, cause debugging simply is to tedious and unmanageable. How can this be avoided? Stepping out all the time takes a insane amount of time, and i only wish to debug the code i have written down. I usally add all the controls myself without using any drag and drop for forms if that makes any difference in the total picture. Regards.

    I am looking for a cron expression library in java. Something that can parse cron expressions and return me future fire times for the trigger. API on the lines of. CronExpression cronExpression = new CronExpression("0 30 4 * * *"); List<Date> fireTimes = cronExpression.getFireTimes(todaysDate, nextWeekDate); I don't want to use something as complicated as quartz. The purpose is to basically use cron like a regex for timings. That's all. I do not want a background scheduler. I tried googling but wasn't able to find anything very helpful. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Regards, Pulkit P.S - I looked at using the CronExpression class out of quartz. Wasn't very helpful - failing some tests.

    Hi, my xml file has a tag with an attribute "containsValue" which contains the "special" characters you can see in the subject: <original_msg_body id="msgBodySpecialCharsRule" containsValue=";ìè+òàù-<^èç°§_>!£$%&/()=?~`'#;" /> in my xml schema the attribute has xs:string: <xs:attribute name="containsValue" type="xs:string" /> I use this value inside a Java software which check if this value is contained inside another String. but I always obtain this Exception: javax.xml.bind.UnmarshalException - with linked exception: [org.xml.sax.SAXParseException: The value of attribute "containsValue" associated with an element type "original_msg_body" must not contain the '<' character.] How can I solve it? I've tried changing the attribute type to xs:NMTOKEN, ut I get the same exception. Is there any other type? I think I could change the characters encoding, for example using the HTML representation, like <, but than could be tricky for the string comparison...

    i know it's for ubuntu questions..but mint and ubuntu are very similiar and i had the same problem with linux ubuntu too..so i think this is the right place for my question anyway i don't have experience with drivers and other things,after installing Linux on my machine( i did dist-upgrade btw) everything seem to be great because i didn't have to install any driver, after a while i realized that my connection stop after few minutes(actually it shows that I'm connected but it's not) so i have to reconnect and after few minutes it disconnect again.     Many people like to use Java ME SDK with IDEs. We provided instructions on how to integrate the SDK with NetBeans through the download page, and also through the release note, however, let me explain it here once again with some screen shots. 1. Download Java ME SDK and NetBeans plugin from here. 2. Install Java ME SDK first. You will have the emulator and the runtime on your machine. Also please unarchive the NetBeans plugin somewhere. 3. Launch NetBeans. 4. Go to "Tools" - "Plugins". 5. Check out the "Installed" tab. Check "Show details". If you see the previous version of Java ME SDK Tools installed already. Check those to uninstall them. 6. Go to "Settings" tab. 7. Click "Add", and provide the location of NetBeans plugin. In my case, it is "file:/C:/Users/sungcho/Downloads/nb-me-sdk-plugins-uc/updates.xml". Don't forget to add "updates.xml" at the end. 8. Click "Okay" 9. Click "Available Plugins" tab. 10. If you scroll down, you will see three Java ME SDK Tools. Check "Java ME SDK Tools" plugin. Also check others as you desire. 11. Follow the instruction and install them. 12. Restart NetBeans 13. That is it. Done. Now you will see Oracle Java ME SDK 3.2 in your Java Platform list.

Our plans for certifying Java 7 for the E-Business Suite We plan on releasing the Java 7 certification for E-Business Suite customers in two phases: Phase 1: Certify JRE 7 for Windows end-user desktops Phase 2: Certify JDK 7 for server-based components When will Java 7 be certified with EBS? We're working on the first phase now. As usual, I cannot discuss release dates here, but you can monitor or subscribe to this blog for updates. Current known issues with JRE 7 in EBS environments Our current testing shows that there are known incompatibilities between JRE 7 and the Forms-invocation process in EBS environments.  We have been working directly with the Java division on this for a while now.  In the meantime, EBS customers should not deploy JRE 7 to their end-user Windows desktop clients. You should stick with JRE 1.6 for now.  But wait, you previously said... Older JRE certification announcements stated: Our standard policy is that all E-Business Suite customers can apply all JRE updates to end-user desktops from JRE 1.6.0_03 and higher.  We test all new JRE releases in parallel with the JRE development process, so all JRE releases are considered certified with the E-Business Suite on the same day that they're released by our Java team.  You do not need to wait for a certification announcement before applying new JRE releases to your EBS users' desktops. Yes, this is true.  This standard boilerplate text was written before JRE 7 was released, so there was no possibility of misunderstanding.  With the availability of JRE 7, that boilerplate needs to be revised to read: Our standard policy is that all E-Business Suite customers can apply all JRE updates to end-user desktops from JRE 1.6.0_03 and later updates on the 1.6 codeline.  We test all new JRE 1.6 releases in parallel with the JRE development process, so all new JRE 1.6 releases are considered certified with the E-Business Suite on the same day that they're released by our Java team.  You do not need to wait for a certification announcement before applying new JRE 1.6 releases to your EBS users' desktops.
