• What is the advantage of a programmers VM apart from portability

  I can understand the benefits of Java running on a JVM. Portability. Nice simple reason. But I have always been puzzled as to why Microsoft brought out their own version of a JVM - .NET. C# is supposed to be a fine language (haven't used myself) but could Microsoft have launched product to use native. ie to generate an exe? My colleague is learning F#. The reason it has to be a language which runs on .NET is because the Microsoft Lync API which will be used is only available on .NET. ie there is no C API for Lync. A cynical view may be that the reason is vendor lockin. F# will only run on a Microsoft platform (or C# for that matter) and so program is locked in. But maybe I am missing some other benefit of a VM platform?

  I just got a book that goes over all the VS2010 tools. Most I have never used like load testing/web testing, UML Tools, Layer Diagrams.... Has anyone had any real world experience with using these VS2010 tools like the UML diagramming? I am wondering if it is something that would really be useful starting a new project or is it just busy work that no one ever uses once they are made? How are the UML diagrams integrated with the rest of development in VS2010 ? The last project we just made some really basic Visio diagrams but maybe this is better. Alot of VS2010 Ultimate tools are over kill (layer diagram) for small/mid level projects it seems. UML seems to be one of those things I hear about past 10 years but never seem to use.

• Mac OS X 10.6 Setup for Apache/MySQL/Perl

  I just got a new Mac and have been trying to setup a local development environment for my perl applications for a few days now with no luck. I'm getting no where fast so I hope someone else who has done this successfully could help. I started by installing MAMP which I thought would take care of everything for me but unfortunately it doesn't take care of some important perl modules. I used CPAN to install all our required modules except that it seems DBD::mysql doesn't install correctly through CPAN. • Can't get my OpenVpn client to connect

  Hi Guys, I am trying to setup a test vpn between my home desktop and my laptop. So far I have got the server on the desktop to connect fine but I can not get my laptop to finish the connection. I have tried several different configurations and they all give me the same result. Obviously it has nothing to do with my Client configuration but possibly something on my laptop? • Time machine disk icon on boot disk

  The icon for Macintosh HD (my boot disk) shows as a Time Machine disk. There is a file .com.apple.timemachine.supported in the root of the disk. If I delete the file and restart the computer, the icon goes back to a normal HD icon. However, the .com.apple.timemachine.supported file is recreated at some point on boot because when I log in again, the file has been recreated. If then reboot again, the icon goes back to being a Time Machine one. Any ideas about what is creating this file and why? More importantly - how can I get it to stop? It looks like something thinks the boot disk should be a Time Machine volume, but what? Console.app shows the following messages at approximately hourly intervals: 19/01/2010 19:23:54 /System/Library/CoreServices/backupd[7459] Starting standard backup 19/01/2010 19:23:54 /System/Library/CoreServices/backupd[7459] Cookie file is not readable or does not exist at path: /.<12 hex digits of MAC address for en0> 19/01/2010 19:23:54 /System/Library/CoreServices/backupd[7459] Volume at path / does not appear to be the correct backup volume for this computer.   I am running Macports apache2 on Mac OS X 10.5. Whenever I configure a virtual host in the default folder, it works, however when I configure the virtual host in my home directory I get a "403 Forbidden" error. How do I configure a vhost in my home directory? • How to tell if Microsoft Works is 32 or 64 bit? Please Help!

  Hi, I am trying to convert one of our apps to run on Win7 64 bit from XP 32 bit. One of the things that it uses is Excel to import files. It's a little complicated since it was using Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0 (Excel). I found Office 14 (2010) has a 64bit version I can download. I downloaded Office 2010 Beta but it didn't seem to install Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.14.0. I found that I could download 2010 Office System Driver Beta: Data Connectivity Components which has the ACE.OLEDB.14 in it but when I try to install it, the installed tells me "You cannot install the 64-bit version of Access Database engine for Microsoft Office 2010 because you currently have 32-bit Office products installed". How do I determine what 32bit office products this is reffering to? My Dell came with Microsoft Works installed. I don't know if this is 32 or 64 bit. Is there anyway to tell? I don't want to uninstall this if it's not the problem and I'm not sure what else might be the problem. Any help would be appreciated! thanks, Bill

• Emails going to Junk for Hotmail recipients

  We send daily mass emails to our customers (~30,000+ emails per day). We have problems with Hotmail users receiving our emails. Sometimes the email goes to the Junk folder, but often it will got to their inbox, but the content is blocked so the user sees a message saying "This email was blocked and may be dangerous". If an email is sent to GMAIL it is usually not blocked, but it does show up as from "Uknown" instead of the company. Please be advised I've done the following: 1. No RBLs Checked on - http://multirbl.valli.org/ 2. We do have SPF records published 3. We do have reverse DNS setup 4.   Hello. I'm just wondering how some e-mails get past the spam filter, and some don't? Everyday I get World of Warcraft phishing emails that get past the filter... Here, the spammer specified "blizzard.com". And he sent his email through Hotmail using Outlook Express. I just don't understand how this gets past the spam filter? There's this SPF thing that seems to exist... but it doesn't seem to be used by blizzard? I'm on Windows, and if I use nslookup to look for the TXT records of blizzard.com and worldofwarcraft.com, I don't see a thing.... so blizzard is not using SPF? Why would that be?

• How to fix Apache from crashing with PHP+Curl on an SSH request?

  My Apache process segfaults whenever I call curl_exec() from PHP with an "https://" URL. If I use http instead of https as the URL transport, it works perfectly, so I know curl and the other curl options are correct. I can use curl from the command-line on that server using the https version of the URL and it works perfectly, so I know the remote server is responding correctly, the cert isn't expired, etc.. • Apache web logs "GET http/1.1" 200 error?

  I've got some puzzling (at least to me) errors that show up in my webserver logs. What's puzzling is that they show my error page being referenced, but that error page doesn't show up as being displayed in hits on statcounter.com. Can someone tell me the difference in these two kinds of errors? Or is only one a "real" error? This is in WordPress, and I have my 404.php file in my theme redirecting to a static Wordpress page at mydomain.com/error/ These first two log entries show /error/, but a "hit" on my /error/ page doesn't show in my webstats. • Event Log "Wake Source" when system wakes from sleep

  So I've been troubleshooting sleep timers for our systems and have run across an interesting issue. I need a way to report how long a system was awake after a number of different inputs. Now, I've discovered that the System Log tracks wake and sleep events and even tells you the times that everything happens at. The thing is doesn't tell you is what triggered the wake event. It does give you a numerical code however. Here are some examples of what I am finding. Index : 2901 EntryType : Information InstanceId : 1 Message : The system has resumed from sleep.   Morning all, Apache on our internal development server stopped working last night. It's running, but all we get is a blank screen, no server errors. Examing the error log shows the following, [Fri Apr 23 09:13:57 2010] [notice] child pid XXXX exit signal exceeded file size limit (25) [Fri Apr 23 09:14:03 2010] [notice] child pid XXXX exit signal exceeded file size limit (25) [Fri Apr 23 09:14:03 2010] [notice] child pid XXXX exit signal exceeded file size limit (25) [Fri Apr 23 09:14:06 2010] [notice] child pid XXXX exit signal exceeded file size limit (25) After some Googling, we found that this is due to Apache trying to handle a file greater than it's maximum allowed limit, which by default is 2GB and is usually an error log. I did a search using find . -size +1000000k -ls (find all files greater than 1GB) in our log and web folders, but nothing showed up. I've also restarted Apache and rebooted the server itself serveral times. I've completely wiped the log folder and started a fresh. Nothing is working. Any ideas as to what else might be causing this? Thank you

exist for the emailaddress dont update data else create a user and update its profilexml from data fecthed from gedcom. for this i think i need some soln by which i can do only one roundtrip to database and can update all user's xml. or i can execute one sp to get userid from all users where i'll check if user exist then return userid else insert basic data and return inserted userid then for every user make xml from data and update it. please provide be suggestion what is best practice to do this kind of development. if need any more details please write me
