• Usb boot device totally unable to be formatted

  I'm really upset by now, I've been trying 2hours straight to format a stupid usb drive (I'm new to ubuntu and I dont know if I will last long at this rate) Basically this was the lubuntu boot usb key I tried to remove files with sudo rm I tried to format disk with disk utility I tried to format disk with gparted (with unmounting beforehand) NOTHING WORKS. I cant delete a file. I cant move a file to the usb key. I cant do anything. This is really infuriating.. I dont know what to do ? here are some gparted errors while trying to format to fat32 after unmounting error fsyncing/closing/dev/sdb: input/output error input/output error during write on /dev/sdb when I try to remove by hand, it says "read-only file"

• JMeter: how to asign a single distinct value from CSV Data Set Config to each thread in thread group?

  I have to make a load test for a relatively large number of users so I cant realy use User Parameters pre-processor to parametrize each thread with custom user data. I've read that I should use CSV Data Set Config instead. However I run into a problem with how JMeter interprets the input of this Config. Example: I have a thread group of 3 threads and Loop Count:10 with one HTTP request sampler with server www.example.com and path: \${user}. The csv file (bullet is a single line in file) for CSV Data Set Config to extract the user parameter: 1 2 3 4 5 Expected output is that for thread 1-x the path of the request should be: \x. So the output file should consist of 10 samples per thread namely: for thread 1-1 : 10 requests to www.example.com\1 for thread 1-2 : 10 requests to www.example.com\2 for thread 1-3 : 10 requests to www.example.com\3 but instead i get requests to each \1 - \5 and then to EOF. Does anyone know how to achieve the expected effect with CSV Data Set Config in jmeter 2.9?

• Optimize bootup sequence

  I'm on Ubuntu 11.04 (upgraded from 10.10) and suffering really high bootup times. It got so annoying, that I decided to dive into bootchart analysis myself. Therefore I installed bootchart and restarted the system which generated this chart. However, I'm not really experienced in reading such stuff. What causes the long bootup sequence? Anyway, that is only slightly related to my question. My question is, when designing a website, providing I know the purpose, what should I start with? Should I start with the CSS, design and look&feel using dummy data first, or should I program in the logic, events and output, and style it later? What is the design process of most websites that are built from the ground up?

• When is it appropriate to use colour in a command-line application?

  Currently I have a command-line application in C called btcwatch. It has a -C option that it can receive as an argument that compares the current price of Bitcoin with a price that was stored beforehand with -S. Example output with this option is: $ btcwatch -vC # -v = verbose buy: UP $ 32.000000 USD (100.000000 -> 132.000000) sell: UP $ 16.000000 USD (100.000000 -> 116.000000) The dilemma is whether to use colour for the UP or DOWN string (green and red, respectively). Most command-line applications I know of (apart from git) stay away from colour in their output. In my desire for btcwatch to look and be quite "standard" (use of getopt, Makefiles, etc), I'm not sure if colour would look out of place in this situation.

  I want to build a list from maillog, maillog.x containing something like Date, Sender's email, Recipient's Email and subject of the message filtering output emails and output domain. I've read about importing from spreadsheet program a cvs file. The issue is I have to add field separators in log file. I couldn't find how to customize that. How can I do that, the list and the separator? • Can't copy file (I/O error) Ubuntu Server

  I'm running Ubuntu Server 12.04, and basically found out that a couple of files aren't behaving like they should. The file name is r.-1.-1.mca, and I've tried using this terminal command sudo cp r.-1.-1.mca ../ The hard drive is working/thinking for a while, then spits this back out: cp: reading `r.-1.-1.mca': Input/output error cp: failed to extend `../r.-1.-1.mca': Input/output error I have another file behaving like this. My guess is that these files are corrupt, so I tried running the server in recovery mode and it told me to check the file system. However, it didn't come up with any errors. Is there a way to repair these files so I can use them normally again?

• Need private personal access to ~three PHP pages

  I would like secure access to the text output by three PHP scripts (the text output is JavaScript and html) . The security level is much less then financial data but important none-the-less. I have considered purchasing AND studying https and SSL certificates. Hostgator charges an extra $2/month for a private ip plus $50+ anually for a certificate. This is more then I want to spend for this project (time + money). Is there a simpler solution that is: less expensive easier to implement. I'm open to different approaches.

• Acer sound card

  Hi I have an acer aspire on a recent upgrade somehow it loaded dummy output into upper memory so every time I boot up I have to manually load my sound card. using sudo /sbin/alsa reload then alsamixer and f6 to change to my proper sound card. How do I go about making that my default sound card loading on boot every time. sometimes the message comes up cannot find alsamixer, if that happens I have to run the following command sudo /sbin/alsa force-reload and then alsamixer. That works only on current session I would like to get that so it boots without coming up with dummy output. anyone out there know what the command is to make that load to boot section?

The documentation for my webapp reads as follows: you will need to create following cronjob: /public_html/cake/console/cake -app /public_html/app master Also, I want any output written to a log file. My hosts documentation says this: You can have cron send an email everytime it runs a command. If you do not want an email to be sent for an individual cron job you can redirect the command's output to /dev/null like this: mycommand /dev/null 2&1 Can someone help me write the cron job? • ubuntu 12.04 sound not working in applications

  I run Ubuntu on a DELL Vostro 3500 laptop. Everything was working perfectly since this morning, after an update... I can't play any multimedia sound anymore, that includes youtube and others, mp3 in Rythmbox, sound of video in VLC. I can see my device in the setting window and I can play tests sound, but nothing else. Any idea? EDIT: I'm switching very often from to HDMI output, which is deconnected right now. I've tried running VLC, and in the audio menu, you can choose the output so now I can listen to music via VLC but not with other programs. Looks like ubuntu is not totally switching the audio device after unplugging the HDMI cable. Is there any command line which can do so?

• SharePoint 2010 HttpModule problem

  I'm trying to write an HttpModule to run on our SharePoint farm - essentially it will check whether the user is authenticated and if they are it will validate some info against another database and potentially redirect the user to sign a variety of usage agreements. Whenever I enable the module in the web.config I'm finding that SharePoint has issues rendering the page - it's almost like the CSS is not getting loaded as the page is devoid of any styling. As a test I've even tried an empty module - i.e. an empty init block so it's not even hooking up any code to any events and the same issue arises. At this point it's an empty class that just implements IHttpModule so it's not even my dodgy coding causing the issue! The module is in a class library that I've dropped in to the bin folder of the application it needs to run against. In the web.config of the app I've simply added an entry as below: <modules runAllManagedModulesForAllRequests="true"> ... (default stuff ommitted) <add name="SharePointAUP" type="SPModules.SharePointAUP" /> </modules> I must be missing something really obvious here as I've done exactly the same as every sample I've found and yet I'm getting this strange behaviour. Is there something extra I need to do to get SharePoint to play nice with a custom module?

• Problems with native Win32api RichEdit control and its IRichEditOle interface

As part of writing custom command (dll with class that implements Interwoven command interface) for one of Interwoven Worksite dialog boxes,I need to extract information from RichEdit textbox. The only connection to the existing dialog box is its HWND handle; Seemingly trivial task , but I got stuck : Using standard win32 api functions (like GetDlgItemText) returns empty string. After using Spy++ I noticed that the dialog box gets IRichEditOle interface and seems to encapsulate the string into OLE object. Here is what I tried to do: IRichEditOle richEditOleObj = null; IntPtr ppv = IntPtr.Zero; Guid guid = new Guid("00020D00-0000-0000-c000-000000000046"); Marshal.QueryInterface(pRichEdit, ref guid, out ppv); richEditOleObj = (IRichEditOle)Marshal.GetTypedObjectForIUnknown(ppv,typeof(IRichEditOle)); judging by GetObjectCount() method of the interface there is exactly one object in the textbox - most likely the string I need to extract.   Hello there. The following code adds a new item, and a new group with the text "Default". If i keep clicking the button, it will just keep adding new items to that particular group. ListViewItem item = new ListViewItem(""); item.SubItems.Add(""); csslistview.Items.Add(item); What i'm trying to do, is to add a new group and fill it with one empty item, aswell as one empty subitem. And when i click the button again, i want it to create a new group, and do the same thing. I have a textbox were the user has to fill in the name of the group, so there wont be any groups with the same name (hopefully). The following code, i think, creates a new group: ListViewGroup group = new ListViewGroup(newGroupName); group.Items.Add(newGroupName); csslistview.Groups.Add(group); but as empty groups aren't showed, i can't really verify that it actually creates new groups.   I want to implement stack in my program by Genericx. I have a textbox and button to add elements in stack, a dropdownlist box and a button to bind total stack in dropdownlist box.
