• Storing dates i Train schedule MYSQL

  Hi I have created a train schedule database in MYSQL. There are several thousand routes for each day. But with a few exceptions most of the routes are similar for every working day, but differ on weekends. At this time I basically update my SQL tables at midnight each day, to get the departures for the next 24 hours. This is however very inconvenient. So I need a way to store dates in my tables so I don't have to do this every day. I tried to create a separate table where I stored dates for each routenumber (routenumbers are resetted each day), but this made my query so slow that it was impossible to use. Does this mean I would have to store my departure and arrival times as datetimes? In that case the main table containing routes would have several million entries. Or is there another way? My routetable looks like this: StnCode (referenced in seperate Station table) DepTime ArrTime Routenumber legNumber

• How to change data structure in mysql using mysqldump without deleting files

  Essentially what I'm trying to do is sync a production server with a sandbox server, but only the table structures and stored procedures. The procedures aren't any problem since they can be overriden, but the problem is the tables. I want to sync and alter their structures on the production server using mysqldump (or any other way that you can propose) without altering any existing data. If it helps, I only want to add more columns, not remove any existing ones. Also, I am using mysqlyog. Is there any way to do this?

• SQL Select between two fields depending on the value of one field

  Hi. I am using a PostgreSQL database, and in a table representing some measurements I've two columns: measurement, and interpolated. In the first I've the observation (measurement), and b is the interpolated value depending on nearby values. Every record with an original value has also an interpolated value. However, there are a lot of records without "original" observations (NULL), hence the values are interpolated and stored in the second column. So basically there are just two cases in the database: Value Value NULL Value Of course, it is preferable to use the value from the first column if available, hence I need to build a query to select the data from the first column, and if not available (NULL), then the database returns the value from the second column for the record in question. I have no idea how to build the SQL query. Please help. Thanks.

  Hello All, does anyone know how exactly the default sorting works in richfaces datatable columns? (using sortby) My problem is that once a sort has been performed, the new data order is never preserved in my backing's bean data model (which makes me wonder where is this new order now stored?), that is the actual datamodel always contains just the original data.. So if say user goes to a another page and returns to what should be sorted data (using back button) , the data displays as original, not sorted.. Has anyone come across this? also, is there a way to do server side sorting, i.e. call my own sort method upon clicking the header..? many thanks for any advice!

• Getting age in years in a SQL query

  Hello I've been tasked with doing a few queries on a large SQL Server 2000 database. The query I'm having trouble with is "find the number of people between ages 20 and 40" How would I do this? My previous query to get a count of everyone looks like this: select count(rid) from people where ... (with the ... being irrelevant conditions). I've googled some but the only thing I've found for calculating age is so large that I don't see how to embed it into a query, or it is a stored procedure which I do not have the permissions to create. Can someone help me with this?

  Hello, heres basically what I need to get done. I have a jsp page which allows me to add/modify/delete an item. The items are stored in a database which I have controller classes to access(dont worry bout that part) When an item gets selected and deleted the id of the item gets sent to the controller to be processed. The item will not always be deleted if their is a foreign key constraint so I send either a delete=true or delete=false through url back to the jsp page. I would like to have it so a javascript function gets called displaying an alert saying the item was deleted or the item was not deleted. can someone please tell me the best way to do this? thank you

  Basically, I am attempting to render an external website (the url of which is stored in the database) into a page in my Ruby on Rails app. I have a field in my model 'search' called 'search' that contains web addresses with the form 'www.example.com' or 'example.com'. I am trying to use a link_to_function call with replace_html to replace the 'maincontent' div with an iframe tag using the value of 'search' in the current instance as the src for the tag. My current attempt is the very ugly code below. I'd be grateful for either of the following types of responses: How can I rewrite the concatenation string to work correctly? How can I get the same effect (replacing the current content of the "mainContent" div with an iframe tag using a different method? • One-to-many relationship related to many tables

  I have a scenario where: there are two (or more) tables that represent independent items. lets say Users and Companies Both of these tables need addresses stored. Each one can have one or more address In a normal 1 to many scenario Addresses table woudl just have a UserId or a CompanyId creating a normal 1 to many relationship. In this case i have a few approaches i can think of the Addresses table could have both a UserId and a CompanyId and only one would be used for each record. 2 keys could be used ObjectId and ObjectType So Object id would have a UserId or a CompanyId, and ObjectType woudl be User or Company Create an ObjectTable and add ObjectId to Users and Companies. Addresses would then have an OjbectId I do not really like any of these solutions. i am wondering what is the best approach here. On another note i will most likely user linqtosql for my data access layer.

• 32/64 Bit Question

  Here's my question. What is the best way to determine what bit architecture your app is running on? What I am looking to do: On a 64 bit server I want my app to read 64 bit datasources (stored in reg key Software\Wow6432Node\ODBC\ODBC.INI\ODBC Data Sources) and if its 32 bit I want to read 32 bit datasources, (i.e. Read from Software\ODBC\ODBC.INI\ODBC Data Sources). I might be missing the point, but I don't want to care what mode my app is running in. I simply want to know if the OS is 32 or 64 bit. [System.Environment.OSVersion.Platform doesn't seem to be cutting it for me. Its returning Win32NT on my local xp machine and on a win2k8 64 bit server (even when all my projects are set to target 'any cpu')]

  Hi, I'm getting result sets from Sybase that I return to a C# client. The issue is that since I'm using string array to write data (which is a mixture of strings and floats), Excel highlights every cell that contains numeric data with the message "Number Stored as Text".   Hello, I have a small query. I need to create a Caching Service of my own that will write and read .NET Objects to and from the Database. Now, I have achieved that with the help of Binary Serialization. But the Problem is I need to deliberately marked my objects as [Serializable], which makes me think that what if someone will try to add an object which is not marked as [Serializable]. Thus, I need to find a way to read and write Objects to Database without Serialization. I have one thought too.. As we all know Session can store any object in it. Now, we can make sessions to be stored in the DB, outproc. What mechanism it uses to store these objects without serializing or deserializing. Any help will be highly appreciated. Thanks. M.B

• Get location from where the Java code is executed

  I have a swing Java application that preserves a lot of data (you can think of a game and its saves for example). Those data are stored in files rather then in database. I would like to keep this files near installation files(.jar file) of my application.Some users(like me) are used to delete default application folder of OS when it comes to large and I don't want them to loose their data this way. Any ideas how to do this easily ? How do I get the folder of the .jar file from program that is executing form that .jar file? Or how do I output files directly into some package? How do I create packages(folders inside jar) dynamically ? Or is there a simple way to distribute Java application in other formats then .jar and then store generated data in installation (sub)folder ? Thanks for reading

I understand that by default cookies are sent with HTTP request, but is there any way at all to overwrite that behavior and not send the cookie? • What is the best way to make a game timer in Actionscript 3?

  I have built an online game system that depends on a timer that records how long it took a player to complete a challenge. It needs to be accurate to the millisecond. Their time is stored in a SQL database. The problem is that when I use the Timer class, some players are ending up getting scores in the database of less than a second. (which is impossible, as most challenges would take at least 11 seconds to complete even in a perfect situation.) What I have found is that if a player has too many browser windows open, and/or a slow computer, the flash game slows down actually affecting the timer speed itself. The timer is 'spinning' on screen so you can physically see the numbers slowing down. It is frustrating that I cannot just open a second thread or do something to allow flash to keep accurate time regardless of whatever else is going on in the program. Any ideas?

  Hi I have some fairly simple requirements but I'm not sure how I implement them: I have multiple concurrent threads running the same query The query supplies a 'string' value - if it exists in the table, the query should return the id of the matching row, if not the query should insert the 'string' value and return the last inserted id The 'string' column is (and must be) a text column (it's bigger than varchar 255) so I cannot set it as unique - uniqueness must be enforced through the access mechanism The query needs to be in stored procedure format (which doesnt support table locks in MySQL) How can I guarantee that 'string' is unique? How can I prevent other threads writing to the table after another thread has read it and found no matching 'string' item? Thanks for any advice..

Currently, I launch the loader file using the following command line: sqlldr user/pwd@db data=my_data_file control=my_loader.ctl I would like to know if it is possible to use specify parameters to be retrieved in the CTL file. Also, is it possible to retrieve the name of the data file used by the CTL to fill the table ?I also would like to insert it for each row. Containers are objects that are stored in specific locations each location and container are specified by ID values.   We know that it is not possible to execute code that manipulates the properties of any UI element from any thread other than the thread the element was instantiated on... My question is why? I remember that when we used COM user interface elements, (in COM/VB6 days), that all UI elements were created using COM classes and co-classes that stored their resources using a memory model referred to as Thread-Local-Storage (TLS) , but as I recall, this was required because of something relaetd to the way COM components were constructed, and should not be relevant to .Net UI elements. Wha's the underlying reason why this restriction still exists? Is it because the underlying Operating System still uses COM-based Win32 API classes for all UI elements, even the ones manipulated in a managed .Net application ??

• Drupal, template.php where do the $form names come from ?

  hi, I want to customize my Drupal back-end forms. I'm using template.php file.. i.e. $form['menu']['#collapsed'] = true; $form['author']['#collapsed'] = true; $form['buttons']['#weight'] = 100; But I was wondering from where the section names (menu, author, buttons), come from. (They are not id or classes in html code, so I guess there is an index with all names stored somewhere. Where can I get the complete list of section names ? Furthermore, I've added a taxonomy-super-select-checkboxes section by installing the module. How can I refer to this section, to make the field not collapsed. thanks

  Background : I have some Application Data. i.e. the Database, come important config files. This data is vital for the application to start else it is exited. Problem : Where should I store this data. i.e in which folder and where. Right Now (This is wrong) it is stored in a folder in Debug/App_Data. But is causing issues in git and when we publish the App the data is not found. So where can we store this folder ? Present Structure is "WpfApplication2\WpfApplication2\bin\Debug" These Files need to be present when the app is started. So they need to be a part of the app itself.

• Stopwatch vs. using System.DateTime.Now for timing events

  I wanted to track the performance of a piece of my application so I initially stored the start time using System.DateTime.Now and the end time also using System.DateTime.Now. The difference between the two was how long my code took to execute. I noticed though that the difference didn't appear to be accurate. So I tried using a Stopwatch object. This turned out to be much, much more accurate. Can anyone tell me why Stopwatch would be more accurate than calculating the difference between a start and end time using System.DateTime.Now?
