  • Is ASP.Net State Server an elegant solution?

    We have an ASP.Net MVC project that will start with a single web server but likely soon scale into a small web farm. As ASP.Net Authentication stores a UserID, and data caching may also be useful, we would likely need to make the jump to state server fairly soon. I'd like to hear from others how State Server has been to work with and how it scales from a performance perspective. Alternateively, we could architect it as completely stateless by not using data caching and tracking sessions with an encrypted cookie.

  • How to get .NET HttpContext for isolated code block

    Hi, In .NET is it possible to get the HttpContext of the current page from within an external class? So, for example in my page test1.aspx codebehind I've got: Dim blah As New FeedWriter() blah.Run() But inside FeedWriter.vb, can I get the HttpContext of test1.aspx? Or would I have to pass it in to Run()? (I'm unwilling to do the latter because FeedWriter implements an interface which will need to be re-written if it's to take arguments) Cheers, Matt

  • TestDriven.net, right click, run test, doesn't re-build

    I am using testDriven.net and when I right-click and run tests, it appears to build, then runs the test. Only it doesn't really do the build. I keep making changes and the test still fails:) I have to do a VS Build, then run the testDriven.net to get changes to take effect. This clears up for a while if I delete the solution's .SUO file. Any thoughts?

It would be a bonus if I could get an automated model based on all the objects called to completely load a single ASP.Net page, with relationships indicating which objects are calling out to which other ones, etc. Thanks for sharing your thoughts or recomendations.

Apart from using a code obfuscation tool (which doesn't seem to be that hard to get around), are there any standard things we should be doing to make our .NET applications more difficult to crack?

  • Publishing WCF .NET 3.5 to IIS 6 (Windows Server 2003)

    I've been developing a WCF web service using .NET 3.5 with IIS7 and it works perfectly on my local computer. I tried publishing it to a server running IIS 6 and even though I can view the WSDL in my browser, the client application doesn't seem to be connecting to it correctly. I launched a packet sniffing app (Charles Proxy) and the response for the first message comes back to the client empty (0 bytes). Every message after the first one times out. The WCF service is part of a larger application that uses ASP .NET 3.5. That application has been working fine on IIS 6 for awhile now so I think it's something specific to WCF. I also tried throwing an exception in the SVC file to see if it made it that far and the exception never got thrown so I have a feeling it's something more low level that's not working. Any thoughts? Is there anything I need to install on the IIS5 server? If so how am I still able to view the WSDL in my browser?     I installed .net framework 4 on my windows 2003 enterprise x64, wrote simple asp.net 4.0 application (default.aspx page only). The application works great if request is to default.aspx, not to the root site: contoso.com/ - doesn't work (Get 404 error) contoso.com/default.aspx - works. Default.aspx is in list of default documents in IIS. Please help.

    I get this exception when my client application is trying to deserialize a message comming from WCF service ("Incorrect wire-type deserializing TimeSpan"). I'm using .NET 3.5 SP1 and latest version of protobuf-net (1.0.0.275). I have no idea what could be the issue comming from. I don't undersand the reason of this error message. Anyone?

  • Problem Upgrading NHibernate SQLite Application to .Net 4.0

    I have a WPF Application using Fluent NHibernate 1.0 RTM and System.Data.SQLite 1.0.65 that works fine in .Net 3.5. When I try to upgrade it to .Net 4.0 everything compiles but I get a runtime error where the innermost exception is this: `The IDbCommand and IDbConnection implementation in the assembly System.Data.SQLite could not be found.` The only change made to the project was switching the Target Framework to 4.0.
