• Dashcode: How to create a custom/new Project Template?

  I'm trying to customize the javascript that Dashcode uses. So that I won't step on Apple's Project Templates, I want to make a custom project template that would appear as a choice after you click "New Project." I have been able to modify one of the existing templates (like, Custom, Browser, Utility, RSS, and Podcast). I can not, however, seem to add a new template to the list, like adding "JJ's Awesome New Cross Platform Template" as a choice. I have tried copying the directory Plugins/TemplateWebCustom.wdgtTemplate and changing in Custom's Info.plist file the com.apple.Dashcode.template.web.custom to, say com.apple.Dashcode.template.web.custom2 and in Resouces/project.plist updating the key value pair: TemplateIdentifier ==>com.apple.Dashcode.template.web.custom Is it possible to add a new Project Template?   I have an Access database for a media rental company which includes the following tables, among others; LOAN: customer_id (pk), loan_datetimeLeant (pk), loan_dateReturned (pk) LOAN_ITEMS: customer_id (pk), loan_datetimeLeant (pk), item_id (pk), loanItem_cost ITEM: item_id (pk), product_id, item_availability PRODUCT: product_id (pk), product_name, product_type MEDIA_COST: product_type (pk), product_cost So basically the 'product type' (DVD, VHS etc) determines the cost. The 'product id' determines what movie, platform etc each item is. My question is: When creating a form for the Loan_Items table, how can I populate the loanItem_cost field (so it is stored) whenever a new Loan_Item record is added? I need to store it as the cost of the item (product_cost) may change over time and I'd like to record what the customer paid at the time the loan was made. Thanks in advance

  Hi folks, With all the RDF et al around King Jobs' newest glass beermat, I'm getting the feeling that its a good time to add the 'iphone/ipad developer' string to my bow. One problem (two if you count not being in a financial position to slap down $1000+ for a mac) ; I am a PC head, specifically a Linux-head, and have no regular access to a Mac platform to develop on. I cannot see any way of getting my hands on iSDK without being on a Mac, (but have been known to be wrong) How hopeless is my plight and where can I go from here?

  Reading about WPF and thinking about my application's data store at the same time led me to wonder if there are any languages or tools that allow you to define relational data in a declarative way? A shallow Google search suggests no such thing exists. Yet it seems so obviously useful. The kind of tool I have in mind would declaratively describe (at least) entities, relationships and views is a platform-agnostic way that would act as an abstraction layer between data-driven applications and their datastores. Does any such tool exist?

• argument order in cygwin gcc 4.3 matters when linking with glib-2.0

  I am trying to compile code that works on os x and linux using cygwin. However, I am finding that the argument order to gcc gives unanticipated results. For example, the following fails: gcc -std=gnu99 `pkg-config --libs glib-2.0 --cflags glib-2.0` nb-learn.c but the following works: gcc -std=gnu99 nb-learn.c `pkg-config --libs glib-2.0 --cflags glib-2.0` Can someone explains how this works? • Spring.NET. How actively is it being developed/supported?

  I've made my choice for the developement components on the .NET platform: Spring.NET for IoC and NHibernate for data access. But how safe is it? I've heard here on SO (don't remember which post exactly) that Spring.NET is on its way down, cause for example the Java original version is developed by a large number of people; but (they say that) the sole person behind the .NET version is Mr. Mark Pollack. Is that so? And, if so, does it still make sense to count on Spring.NET for my production applications? if you have similar information about NHibernate, I'll appreciate it; though it seems that the latter is actively supported.

  If you make a little research on the internet you'll see many DLLImport styles for this user32.dll function: HDC GetDC(HWND hWnd); The question is: what type is more appropriate for .NET x64 apps (either compiled with the Platform target as AnyCPU on a x64 machine or specifically as x64)? IntPtr for example grows to a size of 8 on a x64 process, can this be a problem? Is uint more appropriate than Uint64? What is the size of the pointers this function uses when used in a x64 process? The DLL is called user32.dll does it work as 32bit or 64bit on a x64 operating system?   Hi, I have a FDCC compliant workstation with FIPS 140-1 (Level 1) enabled. Now, i cannot run/debug any VS 2005/2008 applications on my machine I get the following error message on my browser Parser Error Message: This implementation is not part of the Windows Platform FIPS validated cryptographic algorithms. the Error points to line no 1 of default.aspx.cs file using system; The only way to successfully debug/run my application is to set the following registry key to 0 HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa\fipsalgorithmpolicy I understand that there are some Cryptographic algorithms that are not FIPS compliant on XP SP2 but i am not using cryptography at all. For that matter, the solution contains just default.aspx page with default code in .cs file, and even that fails to run. So my question is why the webpage fails to load, and why the error points to line #1 "using System;" statement? My next question is how can i develop on FIPS compliant locked down maching where i do not have edit rights on registry Thanks kudlur

• How to install Nokogiri as a Macruby gem?

  The latest MacRuby release notes (v0.6) state that the authors have managed to get this release working with the SQLite and Nokogiri gems. However when I run sudo macgem install nokogiri I get the following errors: ERROR: Error installing nokogiri: extconf failed: and then a bunch of paths followed by: libxml2 is missing. try 'port install libxml2' or 'yum install libxml2' /Library/Frameworks/MacRuby.framework/Versions/0.6/usr/lib/ruby/Gems/1.9.0/gems/nokogiri-1.4.1/ext/nokogiri/extconf.rb:1:in `<main>': libxml2 is missing. try 'port install libxml2' or 'yum install libxml2' (SystemExit) Anyone knows how to get this working? My platform is Mac OS X 10.6.3. Nokogiri normally (meaining on plain old ruby 1.8.7) installs without a problem.

  Relying on the preprocessor and predefined compiler macros for achieving portability seems hard to manage. What's a better way to achieve portability for a C project? I want to put environment-specific code in headers that behave the same way. Is there a way to have the build environment choose which headers to include? I was thinking that I'd put the environment-specific headers into directories for specific environments. The build environment would then just copy the headers from the platform's directory into the root directory, build the project, and then remove the copies.

My problem is: how can I move a Java object to my memory-mapped block ? Plus, how can I force a new object instance to reside in such blocks ? As you all know, a memory-mapped block can be seen as a byte array, and what I am really asking here is how to overlap the address space of Java objects with the one of such arrays ? • Good piece of software that can manage the creation of complex web forms, including reporting, etc?

  I have some clients who are requesting for some of their reasonably complex paper-based forms to be converted in to web forms. There's straight Q&A text input stuff, there's questions based around checkboxes, radio boxes, select boxes, maybe the occasional attached image, there's data that has to be entered in a tabular fashion, etc. I am deciding whether I should build a "platform" with properly normalised tables to store all types of form data. But before that, I thought I had better check and see if there is anything like that already on the market. I am looking for a product that can: * Easily create web forms of all types * Store all data in a database * Extensive reporting capability I have had a bit of a look around but there's not a whole lot I can see. Right now I have all the configuration values in a .h file. Everytime I change it i need to re-compile. The platform is C, gcc under Linux. What is the best solution for this problem?   We've run into some problems with the static initialization order fiasco, and I'm looking for ways to comb through a whole lot of code to find possible occurrences. Any suggestions on how to do this efficiently? Edit: I'm getting some good answers on how to SOLVE the static initialization order problem, but that's not really my question. I'd like to know how to FIND objects that are subject to this problem. Evan's answer seems to be the best so far in this regard; I don't think we can use valgrind, but we may have memory analysis tools that could perform a similar function. That would catch problems only where the initialization order is wrong for a given build, and the order can change with each build. Perhaps there's a static analysis tool that would catch this. Our platform is IBM XLC/C++ compiler running on AIX.

  The thing is this, in Android 1.5 and 1.6 we had the Icon Design Guidelines. In this guide there are specifications for application icons. Every application should conform to this. However, in recent Android versions (2.0 and 2.1) icons have changed from the old to this new flat 2D style. Every icon in Nexus One has this style, so not even Google is conforming to the guideline. To see the differences between high and low density icons see this image and compare Evernote icon with the rest. I've been able to use different icons by using two directories with different icons: drawables-hdpi/icon.png and drawables/icon.png, BUT not every Android 2.x is going to be HDPI and not every 1.x Android device is going to be low pixel density. So the question is: Should I deploy different icons for different Android platform version within my apk file? and if I should, How do I do it?

  Hi all, on my search for a fast but comfortable web server I dropped into the homepage of EmbedThis(TM) AppWeb(TM) HTTP server. This one has 2 licencse models, GPLv2 and a commercial one with support. On the first view it looks good: the footprint is not too big, it is fast and it has a lot of configuration otions. The most important thing would be a fast PHP execution using a built-in PHP library. Unfortunately this PHP library doesn't include every option, especially "gettext" which one I need for I18N. My target platform is Linux on an embedded device with an ARM based CPU. Does anybody have experiences with the issues mentioned above? Kind regards, Andi
