  • Want to develop for Android. Have a few basic, non-FAQ questions

    Hi everyone, Recently myself and a small group of friends became interested in developing a game for a mobile platform. Originally we considered the iPhone but none of us use macs, so we decided Android would be a more realistic platform to use. Before we get started, I was hoping that I might find some answers to a couple questions so we don't waste our time if this project isn't feasible. Any help is appreciated! I can't seem to find out how many programming languages Android supports. Java is obvious, but what about C+? It seems that Android supports C and C++ through Eclipse, but is that it? (I'm not the programmer for the project which is why I'm asking this. He's comfortable in C+). Our game involves the use of two digital analog sticks (it's not a twin-stick shooter but it's a similar concept). It would seem that most Droid devices unfortunately don't use multi-touch though... Are there many devices out there right now which support this functionality and I'm just not seeing them, or should we possibly consider the development of a different game that would only use a single input? Assuming there's no snags following those first two questions, what would you consider the best screen resolution to develop in? It seems like there are a variety of resolutions out there right now and we can't decide which is the best to use. Again, any answers are appreciated!

  • ASP.net MVC 2 and MonoDevelop 2.2

    Is it possible to utilize MVC 2 from MonoDevelop 2.2 (using Mono 2.4)? If so - is it as simple as grabbing a reference to the new System.Web.Mvc or is there something else to consider? I realize that any templating support in MonoDevelop may not be 100% there since it was built to utilize MVC v1 (at least as of MonoDevelop 2.2). If anyone can add any other tips or tricks that would help as well.

    Right, so if you have to decide on a server-side language for a distributed Linux-based server backend, would you choose: PHP Mono ASP.net Java As a C++ programmer, I'm thinking Java+Tomcat, but I'd love to hear experienced thoughts here, especially relating to debugging and IDE (likely Eclipse). Also, please, it's not a flame question. I'm seeing excellent sites written in all, I'm just thinking about the compile/debug/release cycle. Cheers, Shane

  • Crossplatform way to change screen resolution

    Is there any crossplatform way (Windows, Linux, MacOSX) to change screen resolution? Neither Java nor .Net-Mono can do it. Only through native API invocation. It's very strange situation: there are clear (managed) methods to obtain screen resolution, but method for setting is absent. Is this feature very dangerous or complicated? Does any other crossplatform system (Parrot, RealBasic etc.) do this?

  • How to have onSearchRequested not open a web browser.

    I have a button in my app. When it is pressed I call the onSearchRequested() method. When this is called the stock search box comes up so the user can type some junk in there. When they press "Go" I need the results returned back to my application but instead the stock browser is opened and a google search is performed. How can I tell it to return the results to my application instead.   • Generate data classes failed ?

    Hi everyone, I use MonoDevelop 2.2.2 with Mono 2.6.3 on OpenSuse so the linq to sql feature is implemented. But I have the problem I can create a new connexion to a postgresql database it's ok but when I click in Tool - Generate Data classes and select the connexion I've created before I obtain nothing, no tables appear. What's the problem ?

I would like to set the file chooser's default location to the users' home directory regardless of what user is running it. I've tried the ~/ short cut - fchFolder1.SetCurrentFolder("~/"); - but this did not work.     Hi, i have a question about list views. I hope anyone knows the solution because i have been trying to solve this problem all the weekend. Well, i have a custom list view in which every row have a custom .xml (item_row.xml) with a set color background for the row item. <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="70dip" android:orientation="vertical" android:background="@drawable/list_bg"> The problem is when i try to make a selector for the list. I want two things: When the item is focused, appears the typical orange rectangle over him. When the item is pressed the same. I have proved with a selector and a custom style but all i get is or the selector doesn't appear or the selector covering the item so i can't see it.     I read this article by Miguel de Icaza on attaching an assembly into a live mono process. How is this any different to attaching a DLL to a running process? I do this already, but once the DLL is attached, it can't be unloaded without using an AppDomain (which I am trying to avoid). Miguel talks about "patch[ing] running programs", but I don't understand how. I cant find any other documentation or examples on this.

  • Haproxy not properly passing on X-Forwarded-For header

    I have backend web servers that receive requests by way of haproxy-nginx-fastcgi. The web app used to see multiple ip's coming through in the X-Forwarded-For header, chained together with commas (most original IP on the left). At some point in the recent past (just noticed, so not sure what caused it) something changed, and now I'm only seeing a single IP passed in the header to my web application. I've tried with haproxy 1.4.21 and 1.4.22 (recent upgrade) with the same behavior. Haproxy has the forwardfor header set: option forwardfor Nginx fastcgi_params config defines this header to be passed to the app: fastcgi_param HTTP_X_FORWARDED_FOR $http_x_forwarded_for; Anyone have any ideas on what might be going wrong here? EDIT: I just started logging the $http_x_forwarded_for variable in nginx logs, and nginx is only ever seeing a single IP, which shouldn't ever be the case, as we should always see our haproxy ip added in there, right? So, issue must either be in nginx handling of the variable coming in, or haproxy not building it properly. I'll keep digging...   • Launching an Activity from a Service

    When I am trying to launch a call activity from a Service, I get a NullPointerException.
