  I'm trying to bind a WPF combobox to an observable collection of images.   I'm a lambda newbie, so if I'm missing vital information in my description please tell me. I'll keep the example as simple as possible. I'm going over someone else's code and they have one class inheriting from another. For fun I changed the code from 'p' to 'this', since SampleViewModel inherits from ViewModelBase, but I was met with a series of compiler errors, the first one of which statedInvalid expression term '=>' This confused me a bit since I thought that would work. Can anyone explain what's happening here?

We'll start with my base folder at .../javaf/test.java My goal is to create subcategory and create a class with a button that I can import to test.java when I need a button. I feel like I've done it right, I know that the button doesn't do anything as of now, but I just want to make the whole thing work and expand the code thereafter.   I've been trying to create a Compound Control in Android 1.5 (as described here) but havn't been able to find any good examples on how to do this using an XML file to specify a layout. I'm fine with creating an Activity and then loading an xml file using the following in the constructor: setContentView(R.layout.main); However, I want to do this in subclass of LinearLayout - so I can use this compound component in other XML layouts. Something along the lines of: public class CustomView extends LinearLayout { public CustomView(Context context) { super(context); setupView(); } public CustomView(Context context, AttributeSet attrs) { super(context, attrs); setupView(); } public void setupView() { setContentView(R.layout.custom); // Not possible } } What is the correct way of going about doing this?

  I have a simple class Main with private static int x and an aspect that should output the old value of x before it is reassigned: public class Main { private static int x; public static void main(String[] args) { foo(7); } public static void foo(int y) { x = y; } } and MonitorX.aj: public aspect MonitorX { before() : set(static int Main.x){ System.out.println(Main.x); } } which doesn't work since I can't access private x using Main.x. I've also tried: before(int t) : set(static int Main.x) && target(t){ System.out.println(t); } which doesn't work either (nothing is outputted, if I try to output string, it seems that the aspect isn't invoked at all). However printing out the new value that is being assigned works: before(int newVal) : set(static int Main.x) && args(newVal){ System.out.println(newVal); } What am I missing?

  Hi, I'm trying to migrate one of my PHP projects to Doctrine. I've never used it before so there are a few things I don't understand. In my current code, I have a class similar to this: class ScheduleItem { private Date start; //A PEAR Date object. private Date end; public function getStart() { return $this-start; } public function setStart($val) { $this-start = $val; } public function getEnd() { return $this-end; } public function setEnd($val) { $this-end= $val; } } I have a ScheduleItemDAO class with methods like save(), getByID(), etc. When loading from and saving to the database, the DAO class converts the Date objects to and from strings so they can be stored in a timestamp field. In my attempt to move to Doctrine, I created a new class like this: class ScheduleItem extends Doctrine_Record { public function setTableDefinition() { $this-hasColumn('start', 'timestamp'); $this-hasColumn('end', 'timestamp'); } } I had hoped I would be able to use Date objects for the start and end times, and have them converted to strings when they are saved to the database. How can I accomplish this?

• GoogleTv video using VideoView is clipped, even though its in a separate layout of its own

  Wrote an application for GoogleTV box to play a video. The video is a separate activity to the main activity. Wired up a button on my main layout/activity to to start the video activity up (using its own video.xml layout), the video activity loads and starts playing, but the video is clipped, only showing a few centimetres of the bottom. The clipped region looks like the views that occupied the previous layout (main.xml) . The intriguing thing is that if I push the back button, before returning to the main activity the full video frame is shown. Not sure what I am doing wrong here. Any suggestions welcome. • Which design pattern is most appropriate?

  Hello, I want to create a class that can use one of four algorithms (and the algorithm to use is only known at run-time). I was thinking that the Strategy design pattern sounds appropriate, but my problem is that each algorithm requires slightly different parameters. Would it be a bad design to use strategy, but pass in the relevant parameters into the constructor?.   I've been playing with MVC 3 in a test project and have the following issue. I have Group & Subscriber entities and those are coupled through a SubscriberGroup table. Using the DetailView of Group I open a view of SubscriberGroup containing all subscribers. This list has the option to filter. So far it all works, however when I call the AddToGroup method on the controller it fails. Specifically it goes into the method but doesn't pass the subscriberCheckedModels list. • Why can't I retrieve the entities I've just persisted?

  I've got this web service that basically queries the database and returns all persisted entities. For testing purposes, I've created a TestDataManager that persists 2 example entities after Spring context is loaded (BTW, I'm using JAX-WS, Spring, Hibernate and HSQLDB). I should have 2 entities in the DB by now. Afterwards, I invoke the endpoint by a SOAP client, and the request goes all the way up to the DAO. The Hibernate invocation does not raise any exception, but the returned list is empty. The odd thing is, in TestDataManager, if I switch from sf.openSession() to sf.getCurrentSession(), I get an error message: "No Hibernate Session bound to thread, and configuration does not allow creation of non-transactional one here". What I am doing wrong here? Why is the query "not seeing" the persisted entities? Why do I need to invoke sf.openSession() on TestDataManager although it's annotated with @Transactional? I have done some tests with hibernate.current_session_context_class=thread in application.xml, but then I just switch problems in each class. I'd like not needing to manually invoke sf.openSession() and leave that for Hibernate to take care. Thanks a lot for any help!

• onCommand on button not firing inside gridView??

  This is really driving me crazy. I've got a button inside a gridview to remove that item from the gridview (its datasource is a list). I've got the list being saved to session anytime a change is being made to it, and on page_load check if that session variable is empty, if not, then set that list to bind to the gridview. If I keep it commented out...it fires no problem, but then of course my list can never have more than one item since I am not loading the saved list from session into the gridview but just a fresh one. But the button click is being registered, because page_load is being stepped through again when I am viewing in debug mode, just deleteUser never fires. Why is this happening?? And how can I fix it??

  Hi, I have written a filewriter for my android application. It is to function on a Galaxy Tab, so my minSdkVersion has to be at least 4, so it will fill the screen. I originally started out with SdkVersion = 2 and at that point my filewriter worked perfectly. Changing the SdkVersion to 4 introduced the problem. My filewriter doesn't work anymore! The application runs fine, but a file doesn't get created. • Best way to get record counts grouped by month, adjusted for time zone, using SQL or LINQ to SQL

  I'm looking for the most efficient way to suck out a series of monthly counts of records in my database, but adjusting for time zone, since the times are actually stored as UTC. I would like my result set to be a series of objects that include month, year and count. I have LINQ to SQL objects that looks something like this: public class MyRecord { public int ID { get; set; } public DateTime TimeStamp { get; set; } public string Data { get; set; } } I'm not opposed to using straight SQL, but LINQ to SQL would at least keep the code a lot more clean. The time zone adjustment is available as an integer (-5, for example). Again, the result set what I'm looking for is objects containing the month, year and count, all integers. Any suggestions? I can think of several ways to do it straight, but not with a time zone adjustment.
