• Correct structure and way of website versioning

  Recently I use GIT to version my website. It makes it all really easy to see how my project develops and I always have save backups on different places on the web. Now my main question is if it is recommended to version your whole root of the website. I have a basic structure that looks something like this: /httpdocs /config /media /application index.php .htaccess 1) Should I use the /httpdocs folder to version, or should I use the content of the folder. 2) Is it recommended to version the media folder. In the media version I have several images for the overall layout, and some other images for the website. These imagas can be quite large. I work on these images from time to time and so they change. I hardly never need the old image again, so is this not just taking up precious storage space. I would highly appreciate just some basic recommendation on this topic.

• Is the .Net HashSet uniqueness calculation completely based on Hash Codes?

  I was wondering whether the .Net HashSet<T> is based completely on hash codes or whether it uses equality as well? I have a particular class that I may potentially instantiate millions of instances of and there is a reasonable chance that some hash codes will collide at that point. I'm considering using HashSet's to store some instances of this class and am wondering if it's actually worth doing - if the uniqueness of an element is only determined on its hash code then that's of no use to me for real applications MSDN documentation seems to be rather vague on this topic - any enlightenment would be appreciated

• How to implement a timer for regular events?

  I would like to implement some timers into my application. My goal is to provide an easy way to execute some function every x seconds/minutes so I thought about implementing a 1 sec, 5 sec and 15 seconds timer. The first thing i would like to update every 1 second is the built in clock (don't know if there is any other solution in c#, used this method in c++) Another use would be e.g. a sync function etc. which shall be executed every xx seconds. My question is if there are any useful tutorials on this topic? It is the first time that I would like to implement such an timer system into one of my applications and I do not know if there are any things I have to keep in mind.   I am Using SOAP WS for getting the Data. I got the four Parameters in Response - Topic_Name, Topic_Id, Topic_ImagePath and Topic_Details. Now I have All the Images of Topic Locally with the same name as i got from the web service for Particular Topic_ID. My question is I want to use Local image instead using the Topic_ImagePath 's Image but the data Must Come From the Web Service. I dont want to use if ..else condition because I have more than 1000 Topics, any one can explain how I get the Path of Local Image and Display it with the Data Comes From the Web Service..   Trying to understand vectors a bit more. What is the need for normalizing a vector? If I have a vector, N = (x, y, z) What do you actually get when you normalize it - I get the idea you have to divide x/|N| y/|N| & z/|N|. My question is, why do we do this thing, I mean what do we get out of this equation? What is the meaning or 'inside' purpose of doing this. A bit of a maths question, I apologize, but I am really not clear in this topic.

However, I have a list of URLs that must be excluded (for exmaple, ANY (wildcards) internal link (eg. pokerdiy.com) - so that any internal link that has my domain name in is excluded from this.   I'm in the designing stages of a custom tcp/ip protocol for mobile client-server communication. When not required (data is not sensitive), I'd like to avoid using SSL for overhead reasons (both in handshake latency and conserving cycles). My question is, what is the best practices way of transmitting authentication information over an unencrypted connection? Currently, I'm liking SRP or J-PAKE (they generate secure session tokens, are hash/salt friendly, and allow kicking into TLS when necessary), which I believe are both implemented in OpenSSL. However, I am a bit wary since I don't see many people using these algorithms for this purpose. Would also appreciate pointers to any materials discussing this topic in general, since I had trouble finding any.

  Proprietary software is about as good as open-source software. There are so many problems with proprietary technologies, however, that I'm beginning to think it's best to avoid them: The software will only be maintained as long as the company exists (and profits). The level of security of the application is as unknowable as the source code. Alterations and derivative works, however necessary and beneficial, are disallowed. I simply don't see any point in even learning to use such systems as those created by Microsoft and Apple. Of course I don't pretend that ignorance is the superior option: one has to have a certain working knowledge simply because of the ubiquity of these things. I just don't see any reason why, as an independent developer, I should ever consider it a remotely good idea to actually use them. So that's the question, or discussion topic, or what have you: In what ways do developers benefit at all from using closed-source development software?

  Forgive me if this is the wrong place to ask this, I feel like the question is slightly off-topic even though it is also about programming. I am inputting todo-tasks for my WebDAV-project into my issue tracker, as I read through the relevant RFC's, and it would be nice to be able to add a link in my issue text directly to the relevant text, instead of just a link to the RFC file with a section number in the issue text, and then I have to use the find function to find it. For instance, a link like this: http://ieft.org/rfc2518.txt#1000 <-- line 1000 http://ieft.org/rfc2518.txt#9.8.3 <-- section 9.8.3 Neither of these two works, since they just post the full text files, so my question is this: Does anyone know of hosted versions of the RFC documents that contains such links?

I don't have experience with Rails style frameworks, like Grails, but I worked a lot with Hibernate, Struts, Spring ... I prefer a framework that let you naturally modify the business domain design with the less effort ( i.e. writing the sql querys to modify the tables and constrains, change the view pages, etc ... ). • Web Forms Routing not having correct path to images, css, scripts ...

However, I am unable to find out how to set up routing in such a way that server ignores routing for images, css and scripts so it will be read as http://address/css/text.css instead of http://address/article/1212/some-text/css/text.css The only way I can make this work if I put tag into but I am sure it can be done other way.   I've seen a few questions like this, but mine is a bit more specific so I hope this isn't considered a repost. I am working on a website that is built with struts 2 and hibernate. I need to dynamically populate a drop down menu using data from a sql query based on an option selected in another drop down menu. So basically when the first option is selected I need to rehit the server and get the results from a query like SELECT column FROM table WHERE option = dropDownOption On top of that, I would really like to use ajax to only refresh the affected elements, however I'm really unfamiliar with ajax. I have jquery on this project and I found they have some ajax built in, but is this a good method for using it? any advice on this topic would be appreciated.

  Hi I have some sites powered by Joomla, but with my current assignment I wanted to try something new and created with CodeIgniter a really basic CMS (just to suit my client's needs). Everything works fine except menus - multilevel menus like in Joomla, Drupal etc. with items and subitems... My question is: do you know of any tutorials or texts abut implementing such a structure. I've tried the recursion thinggy with while getting children's IDs move downwards from the parent while searching for the currently displayed item's ID. I've tried also the Drupalish way with having a path parameter enclosing ID's all the way from top to bottom '1/23/123/3'. But all in all it was just too chaotic - code something, try it out. If you have some idea on this topic - thanks in advice.

  Hi, It's a topic that everyone interests. How can I protect my software against stealing, hacking, reverse engineering? I was thinking: Do my best to protect the program for reverse engineering. Then people will crack it and seed it with torrents. Then I download my own cracked software with a torrent with my own torrent-software. My own torrent-software has then to seed incorrect data (bytes). Of course it has to seed critical bytes. So people who want to steal my software download my wrong bytes. Just that bytes that are important to startup, saving and loading data, etc... So if the stealer download from me (and seed it later) can't do anything with it, because it is broken. Is this idea relevant? Maybe, good torrent-clients check hashes from more peers to check if the packages (containing my broken bytes) I want to seed are correct or not? Thanks

I need to set a cookie from any domain (out of my control), lets say "Domain B" to my main domain, lets say "Domain A", and be able to read the cookie also, without exiting Domain B. kinda like Facebook connect for websites, or Snap.com, and others of the sort. how it that done? For the aim of building of black box testing, both client and exchange engine will be given some predefined testcases to send and receive to the server. • Automate publishing of a WCF library using MSBuild

  I searched and couldn't find anything releated to this topic. When using Visual Studio 2010 for a WCF library, you can right-click it and publish the WCF Library, which generates/creates the .svc and web.config file as well as deploys it. I have been trying to mimic this in msbuild and have had no success. Is this possible? I have build scripts to deploy a WCF application, website, and have had no luck using these scripts to successfully deploy a WCF library. When i do use them, it compiles the Dll's but not the .svc or web.config file. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

But if it's based on the same javascript, then... All i want is to check does the element exist only virtually or it can be found in a document (and still may be not visible).
