• An error when installing MVVM Light templates for VS10 Express

  If you tried to install the Visual Studio 2010 Express project and item templates of MVVM Light V3 SP1 (with the Windows Phone tools hotfix), you may have encountered an error when unzipping the package, telling you that a file was corrupted. This error was reported to me a couple of times, and I was able to reproduce the issue. I just published a new version that takes care of this issue. If you encountered that error when installing, please download the new version and try again. Note that the error was only there for the Visual Studio 2010 Express version of the templates. It could be a new feature, a fix, a behavior change, a tip, etc. #6 Java API for WebSocket 1.1 JSR 356 (Java API for WebSocket) has recently passed the Maintenance Release ballot, this Maintenance Release fixes an important issue when Java SE 8 Lambdas are used (see here). GlassFish 4.1 will include an updated version of Tyrus (JSR 356 Reference Implementation) to bring the WebSocket API level to the latest version of the specification, i.e. WebSocket API for Java 1.1. It should be mentioned that the Tyrus version included in GlassFish 4.1 also brings additional features. • not able to boot through pendrive and run set up

  I have dell inspiron, previously i have install ubuntu 11.10 on my win7 and make it dual boot. but since i want to upgrade my ubuntu version and change the partion spacing, i have delete 11.10 partion directly and extend my hardrive space(windows + ubuntu) at that moment everything is fine. then i have put 12.04 version pendrive in usb boot from usb and install the 12.04 32 bit . it was installed but can't showing dual boot option like 11.10 and my machine directly boot into win7 . so instantly i again delete my 12.04 partion . Now i am able to login into win7 but whenever i put pendrive(12.04) into usb drive i am facing error of "grub rescue" even though i try to put lower version(11.04) it showing another error "Error: No default or UI configuration directive found boot " i have reinstall win7 and reformat all partion still i am facing same error :( i need help badly.

• Useful versioning scheme for a git project?

  I have a small github project, which I need to add an option to to output some version number on the commandline. The problem is I have no idea how to "compute" the version number. Is this some random process? Should I just start at 1.0 (probably creating a tag or something), and put a number after . for fixes? I know this question is a bit vague... I just had never to deal with this, and want to use some sane versioning scheme. EDIT Im also interested into how to update this version number automatically, maybe using something like a git hook.

• How do I update wine in one wineprefix?

  Does anyone know how I can go about updating the version of wine that one prefix uses without self-destructing everything in it? I want to bring it from 1.4 to 1.5.5 - I read on a forum that someone got the microphone working in Rosetta Stone with Ubuntu 12.04 and wine 1.5.5. Thanks to zuberuber I was able to approach the issue in a different light. :) I made a new prefix called "test" in PlayOnLinux. I compared the new prefix with the Rosetta prefix. It contained a PlayOnLinux.cfg file along with the reg files. It contained: ARCH=x86 VERSION=1.5.0 I copied this over to the Rosetta prefix and adjusted it: ARCH=x86 VERSION=1.4.1 After doing that, I was able to change it from 1.4.1 to 1.5.0. I confirmed it in the prefix's winecfg's About tab.

• How to reset setting of Wine, avoiding uninstalling all applications in it?

  Foobar2000 volume slider stopped working in Wine Sound is good but volume cannot be changed from the player's slider anymore. Is there a setting in Wine that might have entailed this? I have tested [Vineyard][1] (also) and then gave it up on which occasion some setting in Wine might have been altered but cannot see which. Edit: This affects the main installation (v.1.1.15) made in Wine, and also portable installations of the same version (as well as portable installations of v.1.1.14 and 1.1.17b that I tested) but does not affect older versions like 1.0.3. After testing more versions, it seems that the newest version without this problem is 1.1. (That is, before the version that changed the classic white-on-black Foobar2000 icon with the new white one.)

  JSR 355, JCP Executive Committee Merge, is currently nearing the end of the Public Review period.  Review the current draft here and provide feedback here.  The review closes on 12 June 2012.  The JCP Executive Committee met face to face in Sao Paulo, Brazil earlier in May, and has published a revision (version 2.1) of the EC Standing Rules.  The EC Standing Rules were introduced in October 2011 with the launch of JCP version 2.8 (JSR 348).  Version 2.1 of the EC Standing Rules will modify rules for attendance at EC face-to-face meetings. Remote observers will be permitted in "read-only" mode but unless a member attends in person they will be counted as absent.  The review period for these changes will close on June 30 2012.  Please comment on the proposed changes by logging an issue in the JCP EC issue tracker.

  Is there any design pattern or practice recommended for business layer when dealing with multiple API version. For example, I have something like this. http://site.com/blogs/v1/?count=10 which calls business object method GetAllBlogs(int count) to get information http://site.com/blogs/v2/?blog_count=20 which calls business object method GetAllBlogs_v2(int blogCounts) Since parameter name is changed, I created another business method for version 2. This is just one example but it could have other breaking changes for which it requires me to create another method to support both version. Is there any design pattern or best practice for business/data access layer I should follow when supporting API Versioning?

  Current version of GCC in Ubuntu 11.04 is 4.5.2. For certain C++0x features, I need GCC version 4.6, but would like to avoid compiling from source. Is there hope that Ubuntu will update GCC in the package repository before the next release in October (11.10). This question asks a similar thing except for an earlier version of Ubuntu and GCC. A second part of the question, if the answer is "no" to the first, then can I hope to see it appear in Ubuntu's unstable repository?

Since i work under windows and linux indifferently i usually make it portable (it's not my first version of this set of functions), but i want to do something different this time and dedicate one version to windows, and one other to linux. With that i wonder for the windows version, if the WSA* functions can have any interest using them instead of the psock ones. • Kernel panic when booting from USB

  I downloaded ubuntu-11.04-desktop-amd64.iso and used Universal-USB-Installer-1.8.6.3.exe to format my USB stick und put the ISO on it. When I tried to install from it, I've got a kernel panic just like here, except for the version number (mine was 2.6.38-8-generic #42-ubuntu). My ISO image seems to work, as I installed it into a VMWare player without problems. Booting Linux from USB works surely too, as I did it some time ago with an older Ubuntu version. I can imagine things to try out, e.g., write the image again, try another version, pray, look for patches, etc. However, I'm looking for a time-efficient solution, something what most probably works. An advice of the sort "wait two weeks until it's surely fixed, then download again" is acceptable, I'm determined to switch to Linux, but it can wait a bit.

• How do I install graphviz 2.29 in 12.04?

  In my ubuntu 12.04, the graphviz is not the latest version(2.29). I need some features available in the latest version of graphviz. I tried to install the graphviz version 2.29, which requires libgraphviz4(=2.18). I anyhow installed libgraphviz4 and installed graphviz 2.29. For that I have to remove packages libcdt4 and libpathplan4. Now whenever I try to generate graph, I get some problems: For e.g.: dot -Kfdp -n -Tpng -o samplePOS.png forcePOS.dot It says: dot: error while loading shared libraries: libgvc.so.6: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory neato -Tps -o sample_1.ps sourcedot.gv It says: neato: error while loading shared libraries: libgvc.so.6: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory So, I am looking for some ways so that I can run graphviz 2.29 in my ubuntu 12.04.

• Monitor flickering ATI

  I'm using ubuntu 12.10 on laptop samsung with randeon hd 6620g (APU A8), when I run amdcccle -version it says 2.18, not sure if that's the correct version. My problem is that I have and external monitor, AOC e2343Fsk and when I finally got it working at the resolution I want 1920x1080 it works fine for like 5minutes and then it starts flickering... I solved this on Windows (the exact same problem) with some options (I don't remember very well) I believe there were some buttons '+' and '-' on some vsync option I played with them on windows and Yay! got it working, but I don't see anything similar on this catalyst version (I used xorg-edgers ppa for installing fglrx). • CPU spikes to 100% when trying to watch video

  I just installed Ubuntu 12.04 and now CPU spikes to 100% when trying to watch a video. I don't want to hear that this is a problem with Flash or whatever... Playing video on my machine with Ubuntu 11 was just fine. In fact I have another machine still with Ubuntu 11 and it continues to play video just fine. Now I'm stuck with this 12.04 version and want to know how to downgrade back to version 11 as that version isn't buggy. (hence a downgrade).

• How to handle "porting" software that's still in development

  My company is building an iOS version of an Android app that our client is developing (but has not yet released). We have access to the latest builds and source, however since the software is frequently re-structured and refactored, we're doing a lot of unnecessary re-work. In addition, the due date on the contract will likely be passed before the client's application is even ready for release. In other words, we're supposed to build the iOS version before the original Android version is even complete. Luckily the client tossed out the original deadline, but now we may have to renegotiate pricing... never a fun situation. Are we handling this incorrectly? How are "ports" (especially between mobile platforms) normally done? Is there a correct way to pipeline development for multiple platforms without so much re-work? Thanks in advance! :)
