• trigger script on postfix delivery errors

  I'm trying to get postfix to run a script on soft (4xx) and hard (5xx) delivery errors, but I'm not sure where to start. If I understand things correctly, I could insert (pipe-based) filters in the master.cf file, there's a whole 'milter' infrastructure available, an finally I suppose I could simply grep through the mail.info logs. So - any advice? Should I go the 'handle it via master.cf' route, and if so, what daemon should I intercept? 'bounce'? The grep-the-logs route is probably simplest, but I can't help but feel that there is a better way. Any advice appreciated!

• Thunderbird replacement with PGP support

  Is there any good Thunderbird replacement with full PGP support ? To be more exact replacement for (Thb +Enigmail this is the tandem Im using now) Best way would be if PGP would be built in into application. Commercial software is also fine :) excluding M$ software. What I need: - PGP support - application much more stable than Thunderbird, - support for Gmail out of the box including support for labels, - better search functionality (search in THB is far away from perfection), - cross platform (I should be able to run it on windows and Linux). So do you guys have an experience with other mail clients which have PGP support ?

• Outgoing email getting stuck in outbox and sent out multiple times.

  I have someone with 3 accounts on Outlook - one of them is giving trouble, in that when sending mail from it, it gets stuck in the outbox, saying it hasn't sent yet. When it finally does send off, he gets reports that about 10 copies have been received. The webmail associated with that account works fine, which means the hosting company (Godaddy) hasn't been helpful in solving this problem. It seems to be an Outlook issue. The other two email accounts (one of which is also a Godaddy email), work normally.

• What are the risks in putting website files in the "root" folder of a shared web hosting server?

  A site I've been asked to manage is hosted (shared) on GoDaddy, with this folder structure: / public_html public_ftp mail stats logs etc... However, the website files are stored in the / folder, and NOT in public_html. I'm not sure if this is how GoDaddy sets up their customers' accounts, or if the old web developer accidentally changed it from public_html to root. But when we call up GoDaddy to tell them to correct this (move files to public_html), they won't change it and insist that there is no security risk unless someone gets a hold of the FTP password. Is this true? (I have always read that website files should be inside public_html.) If not, where could this setting be changed? The .htaccess is empty.

• How to accept email *only* from white-listed addresses in Gmail? [migrated]

  I only want to accpet email from two addresses, the rest I want to delete immediately, unseen. I know how to make fileers and I can whitelist those two addresses. If I make 3 filter, in this order; 1) from [email protected] move to inbox, never mark as spam 2) from [email protected] move to inbox, never mark as spam 3) from *@*.* delete immediately, never move to trash can I be guaranteed that that will do what I want? For instance, can I be sure that the filters are executed in that order? I dont want to lose amy mail from those two adresses.

• iOS calendar sync with Exchange 365

  I signed up for an Exchange 365 account with Microsoft Online. I followed the instructions to set up my iPhone to access my mail. However, I can't access the calendar function. When I go into the account settings screen on my iPhone, the options to turn on the calendar, contacts and reminders are missing! (See step 9 on this site to get an idea of what the dialog should look like). Anyone have an idea why those options are missing and how I could activate them? Thanks, Patrick

• VMware postfix server drops connection

  Our physical server godzilla forwards mails to our virtuall VMware server b4. They are on the same net. Often connection drops, we can't ping godzilla with our b4. That means mails from godzilla won't reach b4 and the mails will be in handed into the mailq. Sometimes it takes some hours and the issue will auto fix itself, b4 will wake up and the mail will be delivered. Another thing if we remotely ssh into the b4, the b4 will wake up and and receive any mailq mails from godzilla and deliver them. netadmin@b4:/var/log$ arp -a ?   I've an [email protected] email address which receives emails from clients and delivers it to various people within my company. However, since today I get the following bounce error message when sending an email to this address: Delivery to the following recipient failed permanently: [email protected] Technical details of permanent failure: Message rejected by Google Groups. Please visit http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=188131 to review our Bulk Email Senders Guidelines. The Bulk Senders Guidelines describe how to send out bulk emails. However, in my case I only receive one email and distribute it to a couple of people within my company. Same problem applies to the [email protected] email address which we use internally. Does anyone know how to resolve this issue? UPDATE: I just realized that emails coming from the outside and being sent to this address still work. It just seems to be emails coming from my domain. I found a solution and posted it below.

• How to limit access to Exchange 2003 Mobile Actviesync server by user?

  So I was asked to set up an Exchange Activesync mobile gateway. That's done. It's a separat eExchange 2003 front-end server configured for SSL, and I've put an off-domain ISA server in front of it. Now I'm being asked to limit which users can connect to it. By default an Exchange front-end server allows any user who has a mail account to connect to the front -end server. So I'm looking at the permissions on the various IIS sites/apps on the server, but I know that it's easy to break Exchange Front-end server perms. So I've got the following in IIS: Exadmin Exchange EchWeb Microsoft-SErver-ActiveSync MobileAdmin OMA And a couple of others that I dont think are relevant. Can I change the permissions on one of these to restrict who can connect to Activesync? As a bonus: Can I do it in a way that does not affect ordinary browser based Exchange Access?   I am running a dedicated server with multiple websites. I have created a global directory for common scripts for all websites, rather than repeating them in every website directory. How can I make this global directory accessible for all website. I am getting following error. Warning: require_once() [function.require-once]: SAFE MODE Restriction in effect. The script whose uid is XXXX is not allowed to access /vhosts/globallibrary/Zend/Application.php owned by uid XXXX I have change the ownership of global directory for X website. so it works fine for X website. latter I added another website Y Now I am getting the same error again. If I change the CHOWN for Y website then X website will have the same error. I don't want to disable the safemode restriction. Is there a work around, so that this global dir will be accessible by all website. I am getting following error in my browser when I try to access global directory. Global directory is on same level as all other websites. Is this a good practice to enable safemode for websites?

• How can I change the subject of messages on an Exchange server automatically?

  I want to do something more than just normal mail - folder rules; I want to put a layer in front of my exchange server that lets me, for example, rewrite subjects into a more readable form. I get automated messages whose subject format makes them almost useless. Changing the emitting software is not going to happen, so I need to do something client side. I'm interested in anything that would allow me to do this, either on a mac, or on an older linux distro. Preferably the latter, and preferably in a way that I can turn on and forget about.

• HTTP, HTTPS and FTP is not working but SMTP and IMAP are working.

  Yesterday on a computer of a friend a strange thing happened. after booting the ports fo http, https and ftp are closed but e-mail is still working. in the control panel the windows firewall seems active even if he tries to deactivate it. I have a suspision that it is the faul of norton internet security 2010, we have tried to uninstall it, but the uninstallation did not work. when using the removal tool from symantec it just goes to 23% and then it crashes. the process ccSvcHst.exe is still running. How can I safely remove the rest of Norton Internet Security? Edit: Norton Internet Security 2010 is sucesfully removed, but still no connectivity...

• Very slow accessing printer shared from Windows Machine

  How do I go about debugging a networking problem where the office printer is shared off a Windows XP PC and is very slow from me to access? Print/changing any settings can take several minutes and applications often display "Not Responding" in this time. My machine is a Windows Vista PC. The other PCs in the office are either Vista or XP and do not suffer from any printing problems. I am not experiencing any other network related problems, I can access the web and e-mail fine. The printer is a HP officejet Pro 8000

• Automatic document generation

  I have some data in an excel file from which I have to generate a report. I repeat this task fairly regularly and am looking to automate it. I have a LaTeX project into which I usually just copy data by hand, export the necessary worksheets as pdfs and add them to my LaTeX project and compile with pdflatex. It has occured to me that there must be a way to automate this process. Is there an efficient way to export the data from excel and into a LaTeX project, possibly a vba script in excel could run the process? Also, it doesn't have to be LaTeX, I'm not all that experienced with MS office's more advanced features is there some way akin to a mail merge that I could achieve this with? In some ways this might be better in case I have to pass the work on to someone who doesn't know LaTeX. Thanks.

• Sendmail Undeliverable Redirection?

  Good afternoon; I don't know much about sendmail, so this may be fairly easy for those of you more experienced with it. We have an account, "[email protected]", sending reports to various groups. From time to time an undeliverable message will be sent back to "[email protected]". We'd like for those undeliverable messages to be rerouted, or bounced, from "[email protected]" to a group of our choosing. To carve out a scenario for clarity: [email protected] sends a report to [email protected] and [email protected] [email protected] has someone who's mail account no longer exists, triggering an undeliverable message being sent back to [email protected] Rather than having the undeliverable message sit in [email protected]'s Inbox, we'd like for it to be automatically rerouted/bounced to an admin group, [email protected] So I guess a "rule" of sorts. I've come across this solution: Sendmail : ignore local delivery But I don't know enough about sendmail to know if this is what will fit this situation. Any help is greatly appreciated.

  Is it possible to create a script/live distro that replaces some system32 files? To explain it a bit more in details: There is a company that has multiple computers (think in 100/1000's) and they all are missing the same system32 files since the company's software removed it. The systems are distributed all over the world and are managed by "normal" people who don't have any knowledge about computers. I want to create a usb stick that i can mail to all those people which contains a script that executes when you boot the usb. this script should replace the missing system32 files without any user input is this possible, and if so how could i manage this?

• User account automatically filling up with dead.letter file

  I have one user account on a server with about 400 accounts that is filling up automatically. The dead.letter file in the users home directory automatically grows until the account is full (about 10 - 40 Mb per day). The user is using Microsoft Outlook to send and receive mail. What can be causing this and how can I avoid it from happening? Right now I have an emergency cron-job to delete the file but I would like "real" solution. Edit: The server version is Red Hat Enterprise Linux ES release 4 (Nahant Update 4) Edit 2: It seems mainly spam and I see different mailer headings (from php to Outlook Express) and a frequent appearing header is [email protected] Update: I have asked the hosting provider where I use that dedicated server to look into the problem as well, as it's their Control Panel that could be a cause of the problem.

• Can Exchange be configured to populate a text/plain part of a meeting invite?

  I work in an environment where some people are using Microsoft Exchange and some people are not. The meeting invitations sent out by Exchange include a text/calendar attachment with the meeting information in iCal format. They also include an empty text/plain and an empty text/html part. Is there any way to configure Exchange such that it will populate either (or both!) the text/plain or the text/html part with a human-readable version of the meeting summary? This would help out people using mail clients that do not have native support for text/calendar attachments.

  I have the following problem with a software that should do mail notification for a biometric entry system: the software does currently only support SMTP over port 25 without TLS/SSL. Which is bad because port 25 is blocked in our network due spam reason and our mailserver only support TLS / SSL logins. so i need a solution to connect to a localhost smtp server which just relays to my ssl host on port 587. i know there is ssmtp for linux, but i need it for windows, because the server app for this biometric stuff only runs on windows... edit: i know there is the IIS SMTP Server, but maybe something different?

• Recurring network issues the same time every day.

  Something has been happening on my company's network at 9:30 every day. I'm not the sysadmin but he's not a ServerFault guy so I'm not privy to every aspect of the network but I can ask questions if follow up is needed. The symptoms are the following : Sluggish network and download speed (I don't notice it, but others do) 3Com phones start ringing without having people on the other end. We've got the following ports exposed to the public for a web server, a few other ports for communicating with our clients for tech support and a VPN. We've got a Cisco ASA blocking everything else. We've got a smallish network (less than 50 computers/vms on at any time). An Active Directory server and a few VM servers. We host our own mail server too. I'm thinking the problem is internal, but what's a good way to figure out where it's coming from?

  I am trying to move a mailbox from one user account to another within a single AD domain. We are using Exchange 2007. I have followed these steps: Disable the account From "Disconnected Mailbox" container, connect to the new account I get a success message When I try to login to OWA using the new user account, I get this message: Outlook Web Access could not connect to Microsoft Exchange. If the problem continues, contact technical support for your organization. NOTE: I changed some identifying information for security purposes. I have tried multiple times and get to the same place. When I login to OWA with old account, I get an error that the mailbox cannot be found, which makes total sense. Does anybody have any ideas on this? Thanks!
