• What response should be made to a continued web-app crack attempt?

  I've issues with a continuous, concerted cracking attempt on a website (coded in php). The main problem is sql-injection attempts, running on a Debian server. A secondary effect of the problem is being spidered or repeatedly spammed with urls that, though a security hole has been closed, are still obviously related attempts to crack the site, and continue to add load to the site, and thus should be blocked. So what measures can I take to: A: Block known intruders/known attack machines (notably making themselves anonymous via botnet or relaying servers) to prevent their repeated, continuous, timed access from affecting the load of the site, and B: report & respond to the attack (I'm aware that the reporting to law enforcement is almost certainly futile, as may be reporting to the ip/machine where the attacks are originating, but other responses to take would be welcome).

In my app i have a list with the locations corespondent to the pins on my map. if i select a location from the list i want to make the corresponding pin to bounce(2-3 bounces). is there any way to do such an animation?

  Any idea why my Restore command works fine when run in Management Studio 2008 but not when run from the dos prompt? Shown below is the error when running from the dos prompt. Can I reference the external XAML file that I want to include as a Resource on the UserControl I want to render it in? • UIImagePickerController does not deliver geo tag data

  When I use UIImagePickerController to select a photo, either from the Camera Roll or the Photo Library, the image that gets returned to me in the method 'didFinishPickingImage' does not contain the exif data for latitude and longitude. I know that the headers are there, because they show up when imported into iPhoto, also if I upload images from the Camera Roll, they also contain the exif headers for location. Is there a way to get UIImagePickerController to deliver that information as well?

I'm able to get the full URL into a String via ExternalInterface var url:String = ExternalInterface.call("window.location.href.toString"); if (url) testField.text = url; Just unsure as how to manipulate the String to just get the 1234 and 5678 numbers. Appreciate any tips, links or help with this!

• Options to optimize lotus notes 8.5.X

  Has anyone found actually useful optimization methods for the bulky, fat, eclipse giant, nuissance that is Lotus Notes 8.5? I want it to be fast, and not eat up system resources like crazy while I run it ALL day (as it is my company's corporate mail / cal / scheduling solution). I've tried various hacks for the JVM heap size (if I recall correctly). None really bring a performance improvement. I have a dual core cpu, if that helps (I tried going the route of optimizing JAVA for 2 cores in hopes it would work, but seen no speed improvement). Notes is just sooo bloated, anyone have any suggestions to optimize/mod this thing so it is more responsive and less of a resource hog. Note: I don't want to switch to the web version, or the standard stripped down versions, I am aware of those, I just cannot since we don't run those internally for the company.

Now, I needed to encrypt some fields in the properties file.   Is there a way to auto-hide the OS X menu bar, like is possible with the Dock? There was an application "Menufela" that did this for Tiger, but I'm not aware of anything similar for Leopard/Snow Leopard.. I'm almost certain this is (programatically) doable, because in full-screen applications the menu bar is hidden, and reappears when you mouse the mouse is at the top of the screen.. I would like to click on a link for the location that is not dynamically generated (for SEO purposes) that would open the info window for the respective marker on the map. Behavior should mimic http://maptheburg.com/ - but this map has the sidebar links dynamically generated. Yelp.com is the only site I have seen so far that manages to implement the Google Maps API with unobtrusive JavaScript.

• Mono on Linux: Apache or Nginx

  Hi, I'm developing an ASP.NET application that will be run under Linux/Mono for various reasons (mostly to stay away from IIS, quite frankly). Of course the first web server I had in mind was Apache. But Apache, for all its advantages, adds a lot of overhead. Also, the application I'm building needs to be highly scalable and performance is one of the main concern. Apache has, obviously, a very good reputation and its record speaks for itself, but I don't need things like Reverse Proxy or Load Balancing because dedicated network devices would be used for that. So those modules from Apache will never be used. So basically my question is: since Nginx seems to fit exactly needs, is there any caveat I should be aware of? For instance, is Nginx renowned to be particularity safe? When security flaws are detected, how fast are they patched? Any insight on the pros and cons of using either of those servers in conjunction with Mono is welcome.

  I have a Windows Server 2008 R2 that I use to host various ASP.NET applications under IIS7. I would also like to run various PHP based web apps using Apache (or Apache 2). The server has three static IP addresses assigned to it and I would like to bind one of the IP addresses to Apache while using the other two IP addresses for IIS. I can use the IIS Manager to bind the specific IP addresses to IIS, but I am unaware of how to do this with Apache. Can anyone tell me how to go about binding Apache to a specific IP address and port (port 80 is what I want to use). Please note .. I am aware that PHP can run under IIS.   So I'm trying to display an image that is ouside the path of my application. I only have a relative image path such as "images/background.png" but my images are somewhere else, I might want to choose that base location at runtime so that the binding maps to the proper folder. Such as "e:\data\images\background.png" or "e:\data\theme\images\background.png" <Image Source="{Binding Path=ImagePathWithRelativePath}"/> Is there any way to specify either in XAML or code behind a base directory for those images?

  Hi im trying to detect a marker in a webcam video feed and overlay it with a 3d object - pretty much exactly like this: http://www.morethantechnical.com/2009/06/28/augmented-reality-with-nyartoolkit-opencv-opengl/ i know artoolkit is the best module for this, but i was hoping to just use opencv in python since i dont know nearly enough c/c++ to be able to use artoolkit. im hoping someone will be able to get me on the right track towards detecting the marker and determining its location and orientation etc since i have no idea how best to go about this or what functions i should be using thanks mitch

• Ulimit settings in Oracle 11g on Linux 5

  Is there an issue with "Ulimit -Hn" being set too low (at 1024) when (Oracle recommend 65536)? This is for Oracle 64-bit 11g on Linux 5. It is one of the settings that appears to be woefully short of its recommendation. But I am also aware that the database server in question is an Oracle Data Guard Local Standby and should only really have a connection or two from its Primary database server (to ship the redo logs across). The Local Standby database server has 'hung' about 3 times in as many months and then requires a reboot. I do not have access to this server, so rely on others to look at logs etc. The sanity check on kernel params uncovered the low value for "ulimit -Hn". Has anyone ever seen that 'low' value cause a hang or crash?

• Advantages of multiple SQL Server files with a single RAID array

  Originally posted on stack overflow, but re-worded. Imagine the scenario : For a database I have RAID arrays R: (MDF) T: (transaction log) and of course shared transparent usage of X: (tempDB). I've been reading around and get the impression that if you are using RAID then adding multiple SQL Server NDF files sitting on R: within a filegroup won't yeild any more improvements. Of course, adding another raid array S: and putting an NDF file on that would. However, being a reasonably savvy software person, it's not unthinkable to hypothesise that, even for smaller MDFs sitting on one RAID array that SQL Server will perform growth and locking operations (for writes) on the MDF, so adding NDFs to the filegroup even if they sat on R: would distribute the locking operations and growth operations allowing more throughput? Or does the time taken to reconstruct the data from distributed filegroups outweigh the benefits of reduced locking? I'm also aware that the behaviour and benefits may be different for tables/indeces/log. Is there a good site that distinguishes the benefits of multiple files when RAID is already in place?

  I have embedded Jetty in a java application and am calling the start() method on an instance of the Jetty server object (after setting a handler list which describes the location of the static and dynamic web content). Does the start() call block until initialization is complete? If not, how do I determine when the server is fully started and ready to receive requests?

• How to track url redirects in browser?

  I have typed http://example.com/load/ in my browser window and pressed "ENTER" key. Now on press of enter this website redirects me to http://example.com/load/1/ and then http://example.com/load/2/ and then I finally landed on this url http://example.com/load/3/. These redirection happens at website end, I am not aware where I am going. But I finally landed on this url: http://example.com/load/3/ I want to track where all my browser gone all urls, I am not seeing it in my history as its redirect at website end. Is there any firefox addon or some toll which can track this for me? I am not sure where to ask this question, so asking it here, moderators please check!

• Why use multiple partitions on a rhel server?

  I'm about to reformat and reinstall CentOS onto an old server. The server runs on a modest 30 node small business network and has a variety of responsibilities including MySQL, a Samba share, DHCPd & SVN/Trac. The old sysadmin had this server setup with almost a dozen different partitions for various things. I'm trying to understand what the advantages of multiple partitions are as opposed to a just one filesystem at /. Speed? Flexibility? Security? It seems like if you misjudge the necessary size for any given partition and it ends up filling up too fast, it requires a sysadmin to go in and expand the partition, etc... Seems like it would be easier if everything was just one flat / filesystem. But I'm sure there are some advantages I'm not aware of. The server is currently running a handful of HDDs raided to ~2TB (raid 0).

• Meetings Disappearing from Outlook 2010 Public Calendar

  We are experiencing a frustrating issue with our Public Calendars in Outlook 2010. Meetings that have been scheduled months in advance are missing, but will then reappear. If user A logs in @ 9:30 and goes to the calendar, certain meetings will be missing. 15 Minutes later, when user B logs in, the meetings are there. It is not tied to the actual user- I have seen this issue occur with the order of logging in reversed. These are with meetings that were posted to the calender months ago, so it should not be an issue of an item being updated. We have not upgraded our Exchange environment (still running on 2003), but this is a new machine, running Windows 7 Professional, on a domain, running office 2010. Are there any quirks or settings that I am missing or not aware of?
