• Can I do multi-computer and multi-monitor configuration with Synergy?

  I've been asked to setup a demo room with multiple computers and monitors. We need to be able to use multiple monitors with a single PC in some cases. In other cases we need to switch between Mac and PC platforms. We would also like to be able to throw up slides or other information to screens which are not being used. Is it possible to do this with Synergy?

• What is the best SVN client for Windows?

  I am familiar with using both Versions and Cornerstone on Mac - they are fantastic and incredibly simple to use... but I don't want to always rely on being able to borrow my girlfriend's MacBook so need to find an alternative for my Windows machine. Can anyone please recommend a good subversion client? I have experimented using Tortoise and RapidSVN and couldn't even get them working :( I'd like something just incredibly simple if possible. • RHEL json gem installation requires make?

  When I try to install json gem (gem install json), at first it fails to do so, because of some dev package issue. After fixing it, it fails saying that "sh: make: command not found" and "ERROR: Error installing json: ERROR: Failed to build gem native extension.". Why is it failing on make? Notice this is not Mac, this is in RHEL 5 (4 or 5, not sure). Why is it not able to do some "build gem native extension"?

  Hi, My MacBook's HD started failing recently. Fortunately most of the data was properly backed up and most of the other important data could be retrieved by hooking up the drive with the help of an external USB enclosure, but the problem is that my home directory has been encrypted with FileVault and I currently don't have easy access to a Mac. So can the FileVault sparsebundle be somehow decrypted and read with Linux?

I am installing Apache Tomcat, using steps provided through this URL http://www.editrocket.com/articles/tomcat_mac.html, but when I run sh startup.sh I get the following error: Cannot find /Users/user/tomcat/bin/setclasspath.sh This file is needed to run this program. Whereas setclasspath.sh already exists at this location.

  I recently installed a utitlity for Windows (ASUS Ai Charger) which modifies the USB ports on the computer to output more power (for charging iPads, etc). The problem is, I believe it is also giving more power to my keyboard and trackpad. And now, neither devices are working at all, yet they work on Mac OS X. So does anyone know the amount of power MacBook Pro (2007) keyboards and trackpads use, and how I can set these settings in Windows 7?

Broadcast packets "Who has 192.168.14.149" reach eth0 but OS (Linux) doesn't respond despite eth0 has address 192.168.14.149. What connection exists between routing and arp resolution?

I'm aware of Audio Hijack Pro but that really does much more than I'm looking for and comes with a steep price tag.   We're considering using Google Apps as groupware, with our Mac and Linux users (and likely a few of the Windows users as well) accessing mail and calendar using Thunderbird with Lightning. We seem to have worked out most features, but have not found a way to access Global Address List. Is there a way to sync the Global Address List to Thunderbird? Update: The Zindus addon as suggested by @superuser, does not have support for Global Address List from Google Apps (it does however support GAL from a Zimbra server)

Then i edited hosts file with the new ip in windows, it is ok now. but why this happens ? is it about isp cache or sth ? thanks

• Disable USB powered light from command line?

  I have a nice little USB light which has no off switch, it is 'on' for the duration of being plugged in. My question is, is there a way of disabling the USB port so as to turn off the light while it is still plugged in? Preferably, this could be done from the command line, but if it's possible at all that would be really cool regardless. I use Mac and Linux, but am interested to learn if this is possible in any OS, or if physical hardware prevents usage like this.

• No rights to write on SMB mounted volume after updating on 10.6.3

  After updating on 10.6.3 I suddenly have no rights to write an mounted volumes via SMB. I had no problems before and nothing has changed regarding to rights on the Windows Server. I can read and copy files from the volume, but cannot copy a file to there. Mac OS says I would have no rights. Any hint for that?? Server is CentOS.

• Computer name not appearing on network

  I can connect to other computers on my home network (ubuntu + OSX machines) using the IP address, but I can't connect using the netbios name. On the mac the name appears in Finder but if I try to connect (goconnect to server smb://[email protected]) it doesn't work, while smb://[email protected] does. Same with ssh, ping and afp between the macs. This is a intermittent problem. It has worked in the past.

  Is there any way to get rid of the drop down cc bcc reply-to etc. field menu in the compose new message window in Mail in Mac OS X Snow Leopard? The offending menu is the one immediately to the left of the Subject field when composing a new message, and it interrupts me as I try to tab from To: to Subject: to the message body.
