• Is the single <form runat="server">-element requirement really necessary for ASP.NET WebForms?

  Looking at some of the changes coming to WebForms in ASP.NET 4.0 I can see many improvements that give developers even more control over the output. Some of these improvement have been a long time coming, and for some time it seemed that it wasn't even possible. It made me wonder if the current model with the single form element that runs on the server is really the only possible way. Why couldn't the ASPNET WebForm architecture work with multiple forms that all run on the server? Imagine if you could architect this change. How would it impact the way we write codebehind today? Would it introduce extra complexity? Would it change the way event handlers work, or validation, or ASP.NET Ajax with the ScriptManager and UpdatePanel controls?

• Add HTMl to CCK within Drupal

  Hello im a newbie at using Drupal, and have come across a block in my progress. I have been using CCK to add new content types to my forms. I was wondering if there was any way to add to the form that is generated so that i may contain the elements and also insert visual html code like head rules etc. I have dabbled with the hook_form_alter() and it does not seem to help me in my efforts. Ive been through adjusting tpl.php files and such and have made no progress. Please if there is any one there in the inter-webs who is knowledgeable on this matter your advice would be greatly appreciated. Here is just an example of what I would want to do within the form: 1. Contain field elements within DIV's 2. Add HTML Content into the form

  Hello everyone, I have a long string, ex: "Please help me to solve this problem." This string is so long to fit in a width of 100 pixels. I need to get a substring of this string and substring will fit in 100 pixels. Ex: substring "Please help me to sol" is fit in 100 pixels. Please help me how to estimate a substring like this.   I want to apply a filter to a ListBox accordingly to the IsSelected property of a CheckBox. At the moment I have something like this. • Need PHP Email Script Solution

  Designing forms has always been fun, but getting them to send email on the server side is another story. I have used various email scripts (dynaform,phpmailer, etc), and have experienced a ton of problems. So here is the site I am working on: Contact On the Right. It is very basic: no validation, no required fields. I simply need anything that is entered to be sent back to me. Does anyone know of any BASIC PHP form processing scripts, or have a few lines of code that would work here? I'm not a PHP guy, so I am struggling! Thanks in advance.

• IE form input data disappear after browser refresh

  Hi, I'm trying to achieve sticky forms without PHP. My setup is AJAX like javascript. The back/forward work fine on both IE and FF, but refresh only works on FF, not IE. Doesn't matter what cache options I use, I've even set IE's temporary files option to never check for updates, and the input value is gone after page refresh(the refresh button or F5) I've read many posts where people have the opposite problem, and do not want form data to persist across page refresh, and never read from browser cache, but I do. Any help is appreciated, thanks!

• C# Sharp Windows Application prevents Windows from shutting down / logging off

  I have written a C# Windows Forms application, not a service (it is only used when the user is logged in and has a graphical user interface) that has a background thread running in an infinite loop. When I try shutting down Windows (7) however, it tells me the program is preventing it from shutting down or logging off and asks me whether I want to force a shutdown. Now, is there any possibility for my program to become aware (get a handler) of Windows trying to quit it or to log off? So, what I need is to make the application realize when Windows tries to quit.   I just started playing with Linq to entities in a windows forms application and am not understanding one behavior that looks so simple though. If i type code below, i get ReadOnly records in my dataGridView Dim x = From n in Table1 _ Select n.FirstName, n.LastName, N.Department DataGridView1.DataSource = x But if i type the following code, i get editable rows in my dataGridView Dim x = From n in Table1 _ Select n DataGridView1.DataSource = x So, basically if i specify the column names to select and databind to my DataGridView1, the rows are readonly but if i do not specify the column names and databind to the DataGridView, the rows are editable and i don't understand why.

  I'm planning on creating a C# Windows Forms app as an extension for a third-party Win32 application but I'm stumped as to how to do this right now. The farthest I've gotten is knowing it involves Win32 Hooking and that there's this open source project called EasyHook that's supposed to allow me to do this. I'd like to know how I can get the text from a textbox or some other data from a control in a third-party Win32 application. The text/data in a control is to be captured from the external application's running window the moment the user presses a button. I guess the question can be summed up as follows: How do you determine the event to hook to when the user clicks a certain button? How do you get the value displayed by a Win32 control at the time the button is clicked?

I'm trying to design my data access to allow various facets - from ASP.net, WCF and Windows Forms / Windows services. I'm a bit confused re: session management etc.. How would I handle this? I've been checking out code such as: http://membranecms.googlecode.com/svn/ and questions such as: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1207833/nhibernate-linq-session-management But what do i do if i don't just do things in a web based environment..? Do i need to create different repositories for each client? Maybe I could invalidate each time the Parent in the OnPaint, but if this is not a good solution if the parent has a time consuming repaint logic or I have a lot of my custom component moving at the same time. How do I properly repaint the component?

  Hi I have a number of legacy web controls (ascx) that contains huge amounts of inline C#. The forms contain a number of repeated and duplicate code. Our first plan is to move the code into code behinds per file, then refactor etc... were doing this to upgrade the client to the latest version of their cms At the moment we are going to have to manually copy and paste from hundreds of files, create a code behind, copy the code, add the namespaces based on the client-side imports and then do any tidying up does anybody PLEASE know of a tool that can do the majority of this work for us ? • Generating a scalogram of a signal

  Hi there, I'm trying to build a scalogram view for my app to see whether there is relevant information we can retrieve from a wavelet transform as opposed to using a spectograms to see what can be retrieved via an FFT. So far I can take a wave form and I can perform the forward wavelet transform on it. However I am lost at the next step. How do I turn this information into power/energy information? I have a set of wave forms at different frequencies but I have, as I say, no frequency information. Can anyone tell me what the next step is for turning this transformed data into a scalogram? Any help would be much appreciated because my google skills are failing me!

The users have asked to save file anywhere they want not just the c drive. Can someone give me some code to popup an opend file dialog in asp.net? I want the dialog to popup in a saveAs in ASP.NET. I know how to do it in win forms, but I am creating an excel report in asp.net and calling the worksheet objects SaveAs property that excepts a fileName. • Propertygrid changes not picked up when using menu shortcut for saving

  I am trying to implement a simple windows forms application, where the user can edit instances of a simple Person class. The application makes use of the standard propertygrid, assigning instances of the Person class to the SelectedObject property of the propertygrid. When the user clicks the menu item Save, the application gets the selected item from the propertygrid and saves it. This works fine. However, if a shortcut such as ctrl+S, assigned to the menu item, is used for saving the SelectedObject of the propertygrid, then the changes are not picked up. It appears to be related to the fact that the properties of the Person object are not updated unless the field in the propertygrid looses focus, and the ctrl+S shortcut doesn’t take away focus from fields in the propertygrid. Other developers, such as Mark Gilbert, have solved this issue by forcing away focus from the propertygrid, but this seems to be a bit of a hack, especially since it would be nice to keep the focus at the field. The Visual Studio developers apparently got it right, but I haven’t figured out how.

• Store html form on client or server while building?

  Hi, I have a fairly complex html form enhanced via jquery. It has multiple tabs, within each one things like a html form builder, uploads, descriptions. There is lots of data, and as the user flicks around the various tabs I'm thinking of posting the data to the server. For example, the form builder, has about 10 properties for each field, as the user flicks between the various fields, an ajax request saves the current values, then loads a new set from the new field clicked on. When the user hits save, the idea is then on the server all these bits and pieces come together and become the live version (i may store them as a temp version while the user is working away). So I guess my question is, for complex forms where the same fields are re-used within the one form, does anyone attempt to save all this data locally and upload it in one hit or do most of you do little ajax post's and compile it all when the final save button is hit? b

• How can I avoid properties being reset at design-time in tightly bound user controls?

  I have UserControl 'A' with a label, and this property: /// <summary> /// Gets or Sets the text of the control /// </summary> [ Browsable(true), EditorBrowsable(EditorBrowsableState.Always), Category("Appearance") ] public override string Text { get { return uxLabel.Text; } set { uxLabel.Text = value; } } I then have UserControl 'B' which has UserControl 'A' on it, and I set the Text Property to "My Example Label" in the designer. Then, I have my MainForm, which has UserControl 'B' on it. Each time I do a build or run, the Text property of UserControl 'A' is reset to its default value. I suppose this is because since I am doing a rebuild, it rebuilds both UserControl 'A' and 'B', thus causing the problem. How can I go about a better approach to design pattern to avoid this type of behavior when working with tightly bound controls and forms in a application?

• How to share WinForms and code between 2 projects

  Hi I have a working Windows Forms app (split into an EXE and a few DLLs). Now I've been asked to look at creating another app (MyAppLite) that has only a very small subset of the functionality. Think of it as similar to MS Word Viewer vs. MS Word. Everything that I need to build MyAppLite is contained in the main solution - essentially I need to use a couple of the WinForms and whatever bits in the DLLs they call into. What would be the best way to do this? I was thinking of creating another Project in my solution for MyAppLite, then adding the necessary source files as links (using Add Existing Item Add As Link in Solution Explorer). I definitely wouldn't want to maintain 2 copies of the source code. FYI it's a .NET 2.0 VB app, using VS2008. thanks Richard

  I need to do some regex replacement on HTML input, but I need to exclude some parts from filtering by other regexp. (e.g. remove all <a> tags with specific href="example.com…, except the ones that are inside the <form> tag) Is there any smart regex technique for this? Or do I have to find all forms using $regex1, then split the input to the smaller chunks, excluding the matched text blocks, and then run the $regex2 on all the chunks?

I have a dll named AxInterop.Microsoft.Office.Interop.VisOcx and I refer it to instantiate an object of the type AxDrawingControl(). Now as soon as I write this code: AxDrawingControl objDrawControl=new AxDrawingControl(); and check the attributes of this object objDrawControl in the debug mode, I see this message: Exception of type 'System.Windows.Forms.AxHost+InvalidActiveXStateException' was thrown.
