• Expanding on requestaudit - Tracing who is doing what...and for how long

  One of the most helpful tracing sections in WebCenter Content (and one that is on by default) is the requestaudit tracing.  This tracing section summarizes the top service requests happening in the server along with how they are performing.  By default, it has 2 different rotations.  One happens every 2 minutes (listing up to 5 services) and another happens every 60 minutes (listing up to 20 services).  These traces provide the total time for all the requests against that service along with the number of requests and its average request time.  This information can provide a good start in possibly troubleshooting performance issues or tracking a particular issue.   [Read More]

• Software Productivity Tools-&gt; The Missing Link?

  In an op-ed piece in this months SD Times, I make the argument that software development productivity tools have evolved over the years to become more mainstream. I make the case that while some developers shun tools, in reality they take for granted the tools they are using today that were not available 10 years or so ago, or were not that mature. For example today we use some tools without even thinking such as: SCM, build management, standards enforcement, ORM and UI components. Tools today save a team a tremendous amount of time and are the missing link in the software development process. • Node.js Or servlets?

  I have heard a lot and read about the Javascript server side language i.e Node.js, and saw many comparisons in favor of Node. I don't understand what makes it better or faster, or how it even relates to something as mature as Java Servlets. But Servlets are built on top of a multithreaded programming language as opposed to Node.js. Then how can node.js be faster? If suppose 1000K users query for a database records, then shouldn't Node.js be slower than Servlets. Also Don't servlets have better security compared to Node.js?

• Architecture: Bringing Value to the Table

  A recent TechTarget article features an interview with Business Architecture expert William Ulrich (Take a business-driven approach to application modernization ). In that article Ulrich offers this advice: "Moving from one technical architecture might be perfectly viable on a project by project basis, but when you're looking at the big picture and you want to really understand how to drive business value so that the business is pushing money into IT instead of IT pulling money back, you have to understand the business architecture. When we do that we're going to really be able to start bringing value to the table." In many respects that big picture view is what software architecture is all about. As an architect, your technical skills must be top-notch. But if you don't apply that technical knowledge within the larger context of moving the business forward, what are you accomplishing?   As ably reported in the Oracle Technology Network blog, the Oracle Develop Conference's content catalog is now public (as are the catalogs for JavaOne and Oracle OpenWorld), meaning you can now explore technical sessions scheduled for the conf to your heart's content."But something's missing", you may tell yourself. "Where is my favorite subject, the one I happen to also be an expert on?" Well, there's good news for you, too: The Suggest-A-Session project has returned. It works thus: Submit a session idea via Oracle Mix and ask your colleagues, Oracle Mix community, friends and anyone else you know to vote for your session. (You must be an Oracle Mix member to vote.) Voting is open through June 20. For the most part, the top voted sessions will be selected for the Oracle Develop Conf (or Oracle OpenWorld) official agenda. • Unity Desktop Displays strange lines

  Didn't quite know what title to give this problem, but hopefully the screenshot will explain more. I am running a Samsung R60+ laptop on Ubuntu 13.10 with a Radeon X1250 GPU. After I login and the Unity desktop shows, I can see these strange lines at the top of the screen. I presumed it was perhaps a driver issue and found this article to see if I could resolve the issue: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/RadeonDriver I cannot get on with Unity at all (where are all of the menus gone!) so perhaps reverting back to Gnome may be a solution in my case? I'd welcome any ideas please.

• Making a Background Scrolling in Stacking Game

  Hmmm...Is it a good idea to use a LibGDX parallax background for making a stacking game (i.e. PAPA STACKer Lite)? For example, I'm starting to use the blocks to drag-n-drop it. Next, when the next piece reaches the top of the screen, it automatically scrolls to the next one where the available space left. Aside from that, is it also involved with the camera code (Orthographic Camera) that the screen size appeared like 720x1280 but actually it's 1440x2560 for example? And another thing, does the background scrolling have the option to scroll from start to finish and infinite?

• Session and Cache are By Reference

  Recently a colleague remarked that if he got a List of some type out of the ASP.NET Cache, and changed an item, the Cache item would also change.That is correct. Session (InProc) , Cache and Application all return "live" references. • Choosing a subject to create a site for

  For 6 years I'm working as web developer and I would like to finally create my own site. I thought I have everything needed: programming and administration skills, found a good designer, own servers and understanding how to operate site. But I've missed very important (or the most important) point: how do I find a subject for my site? My hobby and my work are the same: IT, but I don't want to create just another tech blog or news aggregator, I want something different. First I thought things like Google Trends or Google top 1000 could help, but I've got lost in thousands of options I can't see them all (I actually can, but it'll take at least a couple of month). So my question is: how did you start? Where did you get the idea?

• Interface is too empty

  I have recently installed Ubuntu 12.04 0n my PC without any third-party software (cause i havent been able to get my dial-up to work). When i open Ubuntu after reboot, there is absolutely nothing on the desktop screen except for an 'Untitled' folder at the corner of the screen. There is no menu, no taskbars at the top whatever. I dont know why this is happening. The .iso from which i have booted amd installed Ubuntu is fine. I have already conducted an md5sum test and it was all fine. Looking forward to your response.

• Can't install lua on 12.04 on Chrome book

  I am currently trying to install lua on my Ubuntu 12.04 on Chrome book and I keep getting this error: I'm doing good learning different programming languages (self taught) and well I wanted to start learning Lua. That error is keeping me from doing that unfortunately. I've tried doing it with and without of root access and still no success. Does anyone know what might be causing the problem or of a different way of installing Lua? Thanks a ton! Don't mind the top of the image just me taking out my frustration.

  as I prepare to get a new dev machine at work, I write the things I am going to install on it, before writing the first line of code on that machine: Control Freak Tools: Everything Search Engine a free and amazingly fast search engine for files all over your machine.
