    This is essentially a question about constructing an SQL query. The db is implemented with sqlite3. I am a relatively new user of SQL. I have two tables and want to join them in an unusual way. The following is an example to explain the problem. Table 1 (t1): id year name ------------------------- 297 2010 Charles 298 2011 David 300 2010 Peter 301 2011 Richard Table 2 (t2) id year food --------------------------- 296 2009 Bananas 296 2011 Bananas 297 2009 Melon 297 2010 Coffee 297 2012 Cheese 298 2007 Sugar 298 2008 Cereal 298 2012 Chocolate 299 2000 Peas 300 2007 Barley 300 2011 Beans 300 2012 Chickpeas 301 2010 Watermelon I want to join the tables on id and year. The catch is that (1) id must match exactly, but if there is no exact match in Table 2 for the year in Table 1, then I want to choose the year that is the next (lower) available. A selection of the kind that I want to produce would give the following result id year matchyr name food ------------------------------------------------- 297 2010 2010 Charles Coffee 298 2011 2008 David Cereal 300 2010 2007 Peter Barley 301 2011 2010 Richard Watermelon To summarise, id=297 had an exact match for year=2010 given in Table 1, so the corresponding line for id=297, year=2010 is chosen from Table 2. id=298, year=2011 did not have a matching year in Table 2, so the next available year (less than 2011) is chosen. As you can see, I would also like to know what that matched year (whether exactly , or inexactly) actually was. I would very much appreciate (1) an indication (yes/no answer) of whether this is possible to do in SQL alone, or whether I need to look outside SQL, and (2) a solution, if that is not too onerous.

  • Windows 8 upgrade to windows 8.1 RTM fails with error code 0x101 - 0x2000C

    I have a MSDN Subscription and downloaded Windows 8.1 RTM today. It fails to install. After mounting the ISO and installing (with a Windows 8.1 Pro product code), selecting "Keep my apps and settings", it copies all installation files, restarts and then bluescreens at around 50%, then rolls back to the previous version. System has 64 GB Memory, Supermicro, Xeon E5-1650, Intel SSD, runs Hyper-V, Windows 8 Pro. What may be causing this and how do I fix it?

  • MegaCli newly created disk doesn't appear under /dev/sdX

    After having successfully added 2 new disks in a new RAID virtual drive (background initialization done), I would have exepected it to appear under /dev/sdh but it's not there (so, unusable). The system is running a CentOS 5.2 64 bits, HAL and udev daemons are running, not records of any sdh apparition under the messsage log file or in dmesg, only MegaCli do see that virtual drive. Any idea ?   • Introducing Code Map for Visual Studio 2012 September CTP

    As part of the Visual Studio 2012 CTP for September, Visual Studio got a little sexier at helping you discover and visualize your code. The introduction of the Code Map feature helps compliment the variety of other tools that are included with Visual Studio to help you analyze and visualize your projects and solutions. Code Map leverages the dgml format within Visual Studio that is currently used b the Architecture and Modeling tools. This is a nice addition that gets us from point A to point B a little faster. The great thing about Code Map is that you can gain access to the functionality from directly within your code from the context menu. This Code Map functionality is also context specific based on your cursor. You can evaluate and add items such as methods and variables directly to the Code Map window. As you add items the Code Map surface is updated to show your new item plus any relationships and dependencies that have been introduced in your code. Something that is also very nice is that the Code Map surface is interactive and allows you to use the F12 button (Go To Definition) which can help you navigate your code especially is you are adding items that span multiple files or projects.   • Bundling in visual studio 2012 for web optimization

    I have been writing a series of posts about Visual Studio 2012 features. This series describes what are the new features in the Visual Studio 2012. This post will also be part of Visual Studio 2012 feature series. As we know now days web applications or site are providing more and more features and due to that we have include lots of JavaScript and CSS files in our web application.So once we load site then we will have all the JavaScript  js files and CSS files loaded in the browsers and If you have lots of JavaScript files then its consumes lots of time when browser request them. Following images show the same situation over there.   Here you can see total 25 files loaded into the system and it's almost more than 1MB of total size. As we need to have our web application of site very responsive and need to have high performance application/site, this will be a performance bottleneck to our site. In situation like this, the bundling feature of Visual Studio 2012 and ASP.NET 4.5 comes very handy. With the help of this feature we do optimization there and we can increase performance of our application. To enable this feature in Visual Studio 2012 we just made debug=”false” in web.config of our application like following. Now once you enable this feature and run this application in the browser to see your traffic it will have less items like following. As you can see in the above image there are only 8 items. So after enabling bundling it will automatically convert all js and css files into the one request. Isn’t that cool feature? This feature will surely going to have great impact on performance.   • Lenovo T400S microphone mute button doesn't seem to be working in Windows 7 RTM

    The microphone mute button is not working on my T400s running Windows 7 RTM. The speaker mute button works (when I press it the light comes on and sounds goes off). When I click on the microphone button the light doesn't come on and the microphones don't mute. Is there a drive I am missing or something? I can't find a drive for the button on Lenovo site. Anyone out there have this button working?

  • When JDeveloper IDE doesn't render the visual editor

    Though with Oracle JDeveloper 11g the problem of the IDE not rendering JSF pages properly in the visual editor has become rare, there always is a way for the creative to break IDE functionality. A possible reason for the visual editor in JDeveloper to break is a failed dependency reference, which often is in a custom JSF PhaseListener configured in the faces-config.xml file. To avoid this from happening, surround the code in your PhaseListener class with the following statement (for example in the afterPhase method) public void afterPhase(PhaseEvent phaseEvent) {   if(!ADFContext.getCurrent().isDesigntime()){ ... listener code here ... } } The reason why the visual editor in Oracle JDeveloper fails rendering the WYSIWYG view has to do with how the live preview is created. To produce the visual display of a view, JDeveloper actually runs the ADF Faces view in JSF, which then also invokes defined PhaseListeners. With the code above, you check whether the PhaseListener code is executed at runtime or design time.If it is executed in design time, you ignore all calls to external resources that are not available at design time.

  • SQL Server Data Tools–BI for Visual Studio 2013 Re-released

    Customers used to complain that the tooling for creating BI projects (Analysis Services MD and Tabular, Reporting Services, and Integration services) has been based on earlier versions of Visual Studio than the ones they were using for their other work in Visual Studio (such as C#, VB, and ASP.NET projects). To alleviate that problem, the shipment of those tools has been decoupled from the shipment of the SQL Server product. In SQL Server 2014, the BI tooling isn’t even included in the released version of SQL Server. This allows the team to keep up-to-date with the releases of Visual Studio. A little while back, I was really pleased to see that the Visual Studio 2013 update for SSDT-BI (SQL Server Data Tools for Business Intelligence) had been released.   • WordPress mod_rewrite redirect specific folders

    As a new user, I'm not allowed to post more than two hyperlinks here. So I have added a space after every http (ignore them and read as full URLs). System: Debian Etch, Apache 2.2 I have a WordPress instance with multiple blogs. I would like to redirect some of the folders based on the year and month, while leaving other folders go to the actual locations. Example: I have archives for a few years, like 2010, 2011 and 2012: http ://mydomain.com/wordpress/myblog/2010/02 http ://mydomain.com/wordpress/myblog/2011/01 http ://mydomain.com/wordpress/myblog/2012/01 I would like to redirect all 2010 and 2011 posts to another blog with the same folder structure: http ://mydomain.com/wordpress/myotherblog/2010/02 http ://mydomain.com/wordpress/myotherblog/2011/01 and so on. I would like to have 2012 and beyond to go to the actual site (http ://mydomain.com/wordpress/myblog/2012/01). I tried mod_rewrite with the following, one rule at a time to test redirection for just one year (and to expand later for other years), and none of them worked! * RewriteEngine is already on since there are some default WordPress rewrites. * RewriteBase is set to http://mydomain.com/wordpress/ . * I put my rule before all the other default WordPress rules are processed. Didn't work solution #1 RedirectMatch 301 /myblog/2010/(.*) /myotherblog/2010/$1 Didn't work solution #2 RewriteRule /myblog/2010/(.*) http ://mydomain.com/myotherblog/2010/$1 [R=301] Didn't work solution #3 RedirectPermanent /myblog/2010/(.*) http ://mydomain.com/myotherblog/2010/$1 I've also tried the above rules with and without a fully qualified URL for the new location. The rewrite log, with log level set to 9, did not provide any useful information. It shows that it looks at the pattern specified against the URL (as mentioned in the rule), but finally what happens is a passthrough to http ://mydomain.com/myblog/ for all URLs or a 500 Internal Server Error. Any ideas on where I could be going wrong or any alternative solutions?

    I have a Dell XPS 420. I've installed Windows 7 RTM (x64) I have this audio device: SIGMATEL STAC 92XX C-Major HD Audio I have tried using the windows 7 basic driver, and also the Vista 64-bit driver from Dell's website (details): Date: 10/29/2007 Version: 6.10.0.5511, A04 File Size: 7 MB With both drivers, I get normal stereo sound from the driver, but my 5.1 surround sound doesn't work. Has anyone experienced this? Is there a fix?

    I have Solaris Studio almost working. My only issue seems to be Java. Here is what I get: ============================ aflory@aflory-laptop:~$ solstudio & [1] 1723 aflory@aflory-laptop:~$ Solaris Studio is unable to find a supported version of Java. Solaris Studio supports Java version 1.6.0_13 and newer and looks for a valid Java installation in the following order: 1) Location specified with --jdkhome command line option 2) In PATH environment variable 3) At /usr/jdk/latest location, if exists 4) At /usr/java location, if exists 5) At /usr location, if exists ============================ I try typing --jdkhome in the console but I get an command not found error. I have added the following to my /home/aflory/.bashrc file: PATH=$PATH:/usr/java/jdk1.6.0_24/bin:/home/aflory/solstudio12.2/bin export PATH I am running Ubuntu 10.04 64bit. I tried installing the 64 bit version of Java JDK, then I tried installing the 32bit version of Java JDK. I don't believe there is a 64bit version of Solaris Studio.
