• SPFileVersionCollection - why versions are sorted in mixed order?

  SPFileVersionCollection and SPListItemVersionCollection versioning seems inconsistent to me. Inconsistency wouldn't be a problem to me, but sort order is. SPListItemVersionCollection I can understand versioning of ListItems as they are stored in descending order: SPContext.Current.ListItem.Versions.Count -> 5 SPContext.Current.ListItem.Versions[0].VersionId -> 1026 (2.2 latest version) SPContext.Current.ListItem.Versions[1].VersionId -> 1025 (2.1) SPContext.Current.ListItem.Versions[2].VersionId -> 1024 (2.0) ... [4].VersionId -> (oldest version) SPFileVersionCollection However I can't understand how version numbers are saved for a document library item: SPContext.Current.ListItem.File.Versions.Count -> 4 SPContext.Current.ListItem.File.Versions[0].ID -> 512 (1.0 oldest one) SPContext.Current.ListItem.File.Versions[1].ID -> 513 (1.1) SPContext.Current.ListItem.File.Versions[2].ID -> 1025 (2.1 latest version) SPContext.Current.ListItem.File.Versions[3].ID -> 1024 (2.0 (EDIT: IsCurrentVersion = True)) They are nor in ascending order, nor descending, but something mixed. Is there any reason for SharePoint team to decide to store SPFile versions like that? And do they expect that I write my own method to get latest version or is there a builtin one for that? A note: Let me point out that SPListItem.File is not null for document library items.

• How can I discover zeroconf (Bonjour) services on Android? I'm having trouble with jmDNS.

  I'm working with a Droid / Android 2.0.1 and encountering an issue apparently many people have: I'm unable to discover services using the one pure-Java zeroconf library I know of, jmDNS. (Apple's Bonjour, while it works on Linux and Windows Java, I believe would be harder to port to Android because of reliance on native code.) I can create services, but not discover them. I'm trying to make sense of what's going on. There is an ongoing issue report here; related to multicast and IPv6, but seems to be throwing users of jmDNS, too: http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=2323 Any idea why this person might be having success? See comment 22 in the bug report. (I'm new to SO, so can't post more than one URL.) I have tested their code, but without any luck. Has anyone successfully accomplished zeroconf service discovery on Android, using jmDNS or another library? Is it possible my discovery issue is related to the IPv6 multicast problem?

• How should I distribute a pre-built perl module, and what version of perl do I build for?

  This is probably a multi-part question. Background: we have a native (c++) library that is part of our application and we have managed to use SWIG to generate a perl wrapper for this library. We'd now like to distribute this perl module as part of our application. My first question - how should I distribute this module? Is there a standard way to package pre-built perl modules? I know there is ppm for the ActiveState distro, but I also need to distribute this for linux systems. I'm not even sure what files are required to distribute, but I'm guessing it's the pm and so files, at a minimum. My next question - it looks like I might need to build my module project for each version of perl that I want to support. How do I know which perl versions I should build for? Are there any standard guidelines... or better yet, a way to build a package that will work with multiple versions of perl? Sorry if my questions make no sense - I'm fairly new to the compiled module aspects of perl. CLARIFICATION: the underlying compiled source is proprietary (closed source), so I can't just ship source code and the appropriate make artifacts for the package. Wish I could, but it's not going to happen in this case. Thus, I need a sane scheme for packaging prebuilt binary files for my module.

• Strong Naming an assembly using command line compile

  I am trying to use NAnt in order to compile and sign an assembly using the vbc compiler. I have a project set up and am able to successfully sign the assembly compiling with VS2010. When I try to sign it using the command line I get this error: vbc : error BC30140: Error creating assembly manifest: Error signing assembly -- The parameter is incorrect. What is the correct way to do this with vbc? --EDIT: I have found that MSBuild also does not like having the AssemblyKeyFile attribute as I have defined it in the AssemblyInfo.vb, it gives the same failure message. So the only way I can currently get this to build correctly is to set properties on the project to tell it which key file to use and to sign the assembly.

• What is the difference between System.Speech.Recognition and Microsoft.Speech.Recognition?

  There are two similar namespaces and assemblies for speech recognition in .NET. I’m trying to understand the differences and when it is appropriate to use one or the other. There is System.Speech.Recognition from the assembly System.Speech (in System.Speech.dll). System.Speech.dll is a core DLL in the .NET Framework class library 3.0 and later There is also Microsoft.Speech.Recognition from the assembly Microsoft.Speech (in microsoft.speech.dll). Microsoft.Speech.dll is part of the UCMA 2.0 SDK I find the docs confusing and I have the following questions: System.Speech.Recognition says it is for "The Windows Desktop Speech Technology", does this mean it cannot be used on a server OS or cannot be used for high scale applications? The UCMA 2.0 Speech SDK ( http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd266409%28v=office.13%29.aspx ) says that it requires Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007 R2 as a prerequisite. However, I’ve been told at conferences and meetings that if I do not require OCS features like presence and workflow I can use the UCMA 2.0 Speech API without OCS. Is this true? If I’m building a simple recognition app for a server application (say I wanted to automatically transcribe voice mails) and I don’t need features of OCS, what are the differences between the two APIs?

• OAuth with Google Reader API using Objective C

  I'm using the gdata OAuth controllers to get an OAuth token and then signing my requests as instructed. [auth authorizeRequest:myNSURLMutableRequest] It works great for GET requests but POSTs are failing with 401 errors. I knew I wouldn't be able to remain blissfully ignorant of the OAuth magic. The Google Reader API requires parameters in the POST body. OAuth requires those parameters to be encoded in the signature like they were on the query string. It doesn't appear the gdata library does this. I tried hacking it in the same way it handles the query string but no luck. This is so difficult to debug as all I get is a 401 from the Google black box and I'm left to guess. I really want to use OAuth so I don't have to collect login credentials from my users but I'm about to scrap it and go with the simpler cookie based authentication that is more mature. It's possible I'm completely wrong about the reason it's failing. This is my best guess. Any suggestions for getting gdata to work or maybe an alternative iphone friendly OAuth library?

• Sharepoint/WSS Reporting Services Integration woes

  after a number of failed attempts i seem to have successfully installed the Reporting services add-in to my WSS farm. However, I seem to be missing most of the enhanced functionality eg no report library template, no report center site template. the only additional functionality available is the report viewer web part. background: 2 server WSS 3.0 farm with CA (Central admin) WFE (web front end) and reporting services addin installed on 1, and SQL05 SP2 with Reporting services (RS) and all databases installed on other. I have a VM environment set up and have rolled this back and repeated a number of times. I have configured RS within CA and activated 'Report Server INtegration Feature'. Within the 'site settings' I have a 'Reporting Services' heading with a 'manage shared schedules' item/link, not sure if there should be other options? I was of the understanding that to view reports within sharepoint i could either create a new site using the 'report center' template or add a report library to an existing site, neither of which seems available I am at a loss as to what to do, as all online information seems to do with dealing with installation issues/errors, which i seem to have eventually got past

• SSRS for Sharepoint, Images in a report from a Sharepoint List URL?

  Greetings Sabios, I have several reports I run successfully where the data comes from a Sharepoint list in the form of an XML dataset. I am however having trouble with one. I have a report that pulls an image file onto the main body of the report. This data too comes from a Sharepoint list in the form of an XML dataset which sends me the URL to the jpeg or bmp or gif... whatever the case may be. I can successfully pull this off in my own Visual Studio IDE. My Local Report Server will render it as well It won't run on my Sharepoint Report Server (My MOSS runs through https while my Shartpoint Report Server is http might this matter?) When I upload it to Sharepoint and run it through the Sharepoint Report Server, I get back EVERYTHING in the report Header and Footer (dataset text and embedded Images) but just a big RED X where the Main Image should be. I have done everything the boards say: A. I made sure the Unattended Execution Account is running on the Reports Server B. I have insured the URL comes back in clean format (else the images wouldn't render locally either and they do) The report logs throw this exception: e ERROR: Throwing Microsoft.ReportingServices.Diagnostics.Utilities.ContainerTypeNotSupportedException: The target location you specified is not supported by the report server. • TWAIN scanning components for Delphi.

  I need to add TWAIN scanning to an Delphi application and am having trouble locating an off-the-shelf component to do so. I downloaded TDelphiTwain but, when used in D2010 on Windows Vista, it does not appear to recognize any Twain sources on my system. I also tried the trial version of Twain Toolkit for Delphi from MCM which has the advantage of being currently updated (DelphiTwain's last update was 2004), but the Twain Toolkit will not even compile on my system (I think some of the DCUs are out of date). Can anyone suggest a simple method of getting TWAIN scanning into my Delphi application? UPDATE: Using vcldeveloper's update to DelphiTwain (see below) I was able to get this working. Also, I also discovered that Envision Image Library supports Twain scanning as well as assisting in handling multi-page TIFFs, and has been updated for compatibility with D2010. Late Breaking UPDATE VCLDeveloper's code, below, works fine. However, I settled on Envision library which includes the ability to easily create multi-page TIFF files. I got the Envision scanning, including multi-page file handling, implemented in a few hours.

• SharePoint custom web service consumption problems - HTTP 401: Unauthorized

  I have a custom web service deployed into WSS 3. It has two web methods. The first one returns the version of the loaded assembly without any invocation of the SharePoint objects. The second returns some basic info about the library, something like: var spLibrary = [find library logic]; return spLibrary.Name+"@"+spLibrary.Url; In the client app I have something like the following: var service = new WebService1(); service.Url = [url]; service.Credentials = System.Net.CredentialCache.DefaultCredentials; service.Method1(); service.Method2(); When the client app runs on the machine where SharePoint is deployed, everything works just fine. When the client app runs on the remote machine (but under the same user) the first method still works, but the second one throws System.Net.WebException: HTTP 401: Unauthorized. I have tried to set credentials manualy (service.Credentials = new System.Net.NetworkCredential(login, password, domain);) but this doesnt help. I've tried to invoke the built in SharePoint web services using a similar scenario, and they work just fine: Sorry for the mistake...   Hi everyone, i recently started on a project which is a puzzle slider game. This application will be using the Bluetooth, and i'm working on the mobile,Samsung omnia i900. This is how my application will work. Any user with this Samsung device plays the game and starts sliding the tiles. There is an option to search and connect to other users with the same device and application, so that they can solve the puzzle together. Right now, i'm working on the Bluetooth Part but am still new to the API. I'm using the 32feet.NET inthehandpersonal.net class library while encountering much difficulties. I think i will be using something like the OBEX and Obexwebrequest, obexwebresponse, Uri etc. Could anyone explain it in simple terms for me so that i could understand what they are so that i could continue pairing and etc on Bluetooth development. Sorry making it this long, really appreciate if anyone did waste some time reading it :). Hope alanM sees this :) i'm using their bluetooth library.

This is because the implementation (on my machine) to the Average extension method, as inspected by .NET Reflector is: public static double Average(this IEnumerable<long> source) { if (source == null) { throw Error.ArgumentNull("source"); } long num = 0L; long num2 = 0L; foreach (long num3 in source) { num += num3; num2 += 1L; } if (num2 <= 0L) { throw Error.NoElements(); } return (((double) num) / ((double) num2)); } I know I can use a BigInt library (yes, I know that it is included in .NET Framework 4.0, but I'm tied to 3.5).   I am trying to create a PDF using droidText library. There I want to place some text content in the middle of the page but align to left. I was unable to do with Paragraph class and setAlignment() method. So I have decided to use TextField class. I don't want that in to my final PDF. How can I remove that attribute? If it is not possible, is there any other way I can position some text in a PDF file using droidText library in Android?

• .NET Reference "Copy Local" True / False Being Set Based on Contents of GAC

  We had a very interesting problem with a Win Forms project. It's been resolved. We know what happened, but we want to understand why it happened. This may help other people out in the future who have a similar problem. The WinForms project failed on 2 of our client's PCs. The error was an obscure kernel.dll error. The project ran fine on 3 other PCs. We found that a .DLL (log4net.dll - a very popular open-source logging library) was missing from our release folder. It was previously in our release folder. Why was it missing in this latest release? It was missing because I must have installed a program on my Dev box that used log4net.dll and it was added to the Global Assembly Cache. When I checked the solution's references for log4net.dll, they were changed to "copy local=FALSE". They must have changed automatically because log4net.dll was present in my GAC. Here's where my question starts: Why did my reference for log4net.dll get changed from COPY LOCAL = TRUE to COPY LOCAL = FALSE? I suspect it's because it was added to my GAC by another program. How can we prevent this from happening again? As it stands now, if I install a piece of software that uses a common library and it adds it to my GAC, then my SLNs that reference that DLL will change from Copy Local TRUE to FALSE.

• Codeigniter + TankAuth + Swfupload not able to get the logger user id

  Hello. I am using Codeigniter with the TankAuth library installed and trying to upload to index.php/reuqests/doUpload from swfupload but can't access the page as authenticated. I have read many posts around the net about similar problem and tried to set $config['sess_match_useragent'] = FALSE; but still no difference. I have ended up skipping the login check in my controller for testing purposes. But now I need to access tankAuth library from my controller to get the current logged in user ID. It is requested in my application and cannot skip it, I really need to pass the logged in user id to that doUpload model. I have setup controller like this: function doUploadFileFn() { if (!$this->tank_auth->is_logged_in()) { return; } else { $user_id = $this->tank_auth->get_user_id(); $this->load->model('requests/doUploadFile'); $this->doUploadFile->uploadData($user_id); } } Now, it does not pass the is_logged_in() check, as I learned from other posts, CI deletes the session but I have setup the config not to match the user agent but still not working. Is there any solution to this out there ? Thank you.

• C#: How to force "calling" a method from the main thread by signaling in some way from another thread

  Sorry for long title, I don't know even the way on how to express the question I'm using a library which run a callback from a different context from the main thread (is a C Library), I created the callback in C# and when gets called I would like to just raise an event. However because I don't know what will be inside the event, I would like to find a way to invoke the method without the problem of locks and so on (otherwise the third party user will have to handle this inside the event, very ugly) Are there any way to do this? I can be totally on the wrong way but I'm thinking about winforms way to handle different threads (the .Invoke thing) Otherwise I can send a message to the message loop of the window, but I don't know a lot about message passing and if I can send "custom" messages like this Example: private uint lgLcdOnConfigureCB(int connection, System.IntPtr pContext) { OnConfigure(EventArgs.Empty); return 0U; } this callback is called from another program which I don't have control over, I would like to run OnConfigure method in the main thread (the one that handles my winform), how to do it? Or in other words, I would like to run OnConfigure without the need of thinking about locks

  there is an interesting page http://scotdoyle.com/python-epoll-howto.html about how to do asnchronous / non-blocking / AIO http serving in python 3. there is the tornado web server which does include a non-blocking http client. i have managed to port parts of the server to python 3.1, but the implementation of the client requires pyCurl and seems to have problems (with one participant stating how ‘Libcurl is such a pain in the neck’, and looking at the incredibly ugly pyCurl page i doubt pyCurl will arrive in py3+ any time soon). now that epoll is available in the standard library, it should be possible to do asynchronous http requests out of the box with python. i really do not want to use asyncore or whatnot; epoll has a reputation for being the ideal tool for the task, and it is part of the python distribution, so using anything but epoll for non-blocking http is highly counterintuitive (prove me wrong if you feel like it). oh, and i feel threading is horrible. no threading. i use stackless. people further interested in the topic of asynchronous http should not miss out on this talk by peter portante at PyCon2010; also of interest is the keynote, where speaker antonio rodriguez at one point emphasizes the importance of having up-to-date web technology libraries right in the standard library.

• Writing tests for Rails plugins

  I'm working on a plugin for Rails that would add limited in-memory caching to ActiveRecord's finders. The functionality itself is mature enough, but I can't for the life of me get unit tests to work with the plugin. I now have under vendor/plugins/my_plugin/test/my_plugin_test.rb a standard subclass of ActiveSupport::TestCase with a couple of basic tests. I try running 'rake test' from the plugin directory, and I have confirmed that this task loads the ruby file with the test case, but it doesn't actually run any of the tests. I followed the Rails plugin guide (http://guides.rubyonrails.org/plugins.html) where applicable, but it seems to be horribly outdated (it suggests things that Rails now do automatically, etc.) The only output I get is this: Kakadu:ingenious_record adam$ rake test (in /Users/adam/Sites/1_PRK/vendor/plugins/ingenious_record) /System/Library/Frameworks/Ruby.framework/Versions/1.8/usr/bin/ruby -Ilib:lib:test "/System/Library/Frameworks/Ruby.framework/Versions/1.8/usr/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/rake-0.8.3/lib/rake/rake_test_loader.rb" "test/ingenious_record_test.rb" The simplest test case looks like this: require 'test_helper' require 'active_record' class IngeniousRecordTest < ActiveSupport::TestCase test "example" do assert false end end This should definitely produce at least some output, and the only test in that file should produce a failed assertion. • codeigniter & cjax framework, fatal error class 'CI_Controller' not found

  I'm having this weird error with Codeigniter 2.1.3 and latest cjax for codeigniter. Weird thing is, when I download the latest codeigniter, and latest cjax framework for codeitniger and copy to my friends server, and call: domain.com/ajax.php?test/test2 to show the test ajax examples ... it works like a breeze, but when I do this on my server, I get server error (even tho, we both have same php version and such). Server then throws in error log file this error: PHP Fatal error: Class 'CI_Controller' not found in /hosting/www/domain.com/www/application/response/test.php on line 3 Now, I've read thru stackoverflow with people having this problem and solving by changing the construct and calling CI_Controller instead of Controller. But I already do that ... - I mean it's in the basic example that is suppose to work without touching the code, and it does, just not on my domain for some crappy reason. Ajax.php from cjax framework for codeingter should load controller from folder response, named test and call function test2, which looks like this (the actual file named test.php): class Test extends CI_Controller { function __construct() { parent::__construct(); } /** * * ajax.php?test/test/a/b/c * * @param unknown_type $a * @param unknown_type $b * @param unknown_type $c */ function test($a = null,$b = null, $c = null) { $this->load->view('test', array('data' => $a .'   .NET Framework 3.5. I'm trying to calculate the average of some pretty large numbers. For instance: using System; using System.Linq; class Program { static void Main(string[] args) { var items = new long[] { long.MaxValue - 100, long.MaxValue - 200, long.MaxValue - 300 }; try { var avg = items.Average(); Console.WriteLine(avg); } catch (OverflowException ex) { Console.WriteLine("can't calculate that!"); } Console.ReadLine(); } } Obviously, the mathematical result is 9223372036854775607 (long.MaxValue - 200), but I get an exception there. This is because the implementation (on my machine) to the Average extension method, as inspected by .NET Reflector is: public static double Average(this IEnumerable<long> source) { if (source == null) { throw Error.ArgumentNull("source"); } long num = 0L; long num2 = 0L; foreach (long num3 in source) { num += num3; num2 += 1L; } if (num2 <= 0L) { throw Error.NoElements(); } return (((double) num) / ((double) num2)); } I know I can use a BigInt library (yes, I know that it is included in .NET Framework 4.0, but I'm tied to 3.5). But I still wonder if there's a pretty straight forward implementation of calculating the average of integers without an external library. Do you happen to know about such implementation? Thanks!! UPDATE: The previous example, of three large integers, was just an example to illustrate the overflow issue. The question is about calculating an average of any set of numbers which might sum to a large number that exceeds the type's max value. Sorry about this confusion.
