I'm currently using the asp.net membership provider (with logins stored in db) to protect certain pages of my site. However, I also have non .aspx resources I wish to protect - word docs, excel spreadsheets, pdfs, etc. Is this even possible? If so how would I go about doing this?
thanks!
I know that F7/Shift F7 will switch between Code behind and ASPX pages, but
what's the shortcut to switch between source and design view in Visual studio for asp.net Pages?
I'm trying to do a proof of concept app for my work using ASP.NET WebForms and the Managed Extensibility Framework. I've got things up and running(ish), but I can't seem to figure out how to attach the instance of Visual Studio that has the MEF code in it to the instance of Visual Studio that is running the Web App.
How can I attach my MEF code to the running process so that it hits my breakpoints?
Hi, i have a small problem. Im using the ASP.NET Xml control and want to pass it a url to a rss feed and a stylesheet - so that i can style the rss myself on my website. Hai,
I am using Visual Studio 2008 and Framework 3.5. I wrote a WebService and I added that WebService in my page through ScriptManager Service Path. I wrote a method in the webservice, that returns List<.... I captured that value from JavaScript function. Now I want to bind that List<... value to with my Asp:GridView using JavaScript. Help me .....
Actually its the mono version of asp.net, XSP.
In my begin request function i check the url and rewrite when necessary. In one case i do
context.RewritePath("~/App_Data/public" + path);
When i try to request images or anything i get a 404 instead of the content. Why?

Hello,
I am creating some cookies in my ASP.NET application. These cookies expire 10 minutes after they have been created. I follow the approach described on MSDN as shown here:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/system.web.httpcookie.expires.aspx
My question is, when a cookie "expires", what happens? Does the browser automatically delete the cookie? Is it our responsibility as developers to remove the cookies if they exist and have expired?
Thank you,
How can I retrieve recently posted Comments/previous comments on any video in you tube in our application using C# ASP.Net.Please provide detail coding with dll

Hi,
I want to backup my web site regularly but instead of backup my files via ftp program I want a one-click solution which will copy all my files and zip them and allow to download. Can this be done with asp.net at same web site or I have to write a .net app for this purpose?
In asp classic, the cint() function or procedure or whatever it is won't allow me to cast arbitrary strings, like "bob" or "null" or anything like that. Is there anything that will allow me to simply cast integers, numeric strings, and arbitrary strings to actual integers, with some sane default like 0 for strings?
I am about to add a section to an ASP.NET app (VB.NET codebehind) that will allow a user to get data returned to them as an Excel file, which I will generate based on database data. While there are several ways of doing this, each has its own drawbacks. How would you return the data? I'm looking for something that's as clean and straightforward as possible.
I would like to know the number of users logged into my ASP.NET 2.0 application.
Points to be considered:
1) Simplest way would be to use Application or Cache object to have the counts on Session start or end. However this would fail if there is a worker process recycle. Wouldn't it?
2) Should't make a difference whether the session is inproc/state server managed/ or SQL server managed.
3) Should preferably be seamless to a web-farm architecture.

Here's my ASP Classic:
set irs = recordset(sql,PageDB)
if not irs.eof then
dim new_list
new_list = ""
do while not irs.eof
'Add irs("name") to new_list and seperate by comma
irs.movenext
loop
end if
kill(irs)
How would I add irs(name) to new_list and seperate by a comma?
We have an ASP.NET application that uses SQL statements, where table names are unqualified. When compiled, it works fine, but when uncompiled, it complains and errors out, saying these tables dont' exist.
(Qualified name looks like Select * from MyDatabase.mySchema.MyTable ;
Unqualified like Select * from MyTable)
If you try these queries on the database, by yourself, it will take only the qualified names.
What's going on? I thought Compiled vs Uncompiled apps should perform the same way codewise.
I have an old redhat 8 box that I need to pragmatically send files to my webserver from. Disregarding the security issues with this, I've come up with the following way.
curl -F file=@<filename> http://webhost/reciever.aspx
The problem is, no matter what I try, the ASP.NET page is not accepting the file. What am I doing wrong?
Hello,
I have two comma separated lists:-
36,189,47,183,65,50
65,50,189,47
The question is how to compare the two in classic ASP in order to identify and return any values that exist in list 1 but that don't exist in list 2 bearing in mind that associative arrays aren't available.
E.g., in the above example I would need the return value to be 36,183
Thanks
