• "Inlining" (kind of) functions at runtime in C

  Hi, I was thinking about a typical problem that is very JIT-able, but hard to approach with raw C. The scenario is setting up a series of function pointers that are going to be "composed" (as in maths function composition) once at runtime and then called lots and lots of times. Doing it the obvious way involves many virtual calls, that are expensive, and if there are enough nested functions to fill the CPU branch prediction table completely, then the performance with drop considerably. In a language like Lisp, I could probably process the code and substitute the "virtual" call by the actual contents of the functions and then call compile to have an optimized version, but that seems very hacky and error prone to do in C, and using C is a requirement for this problem ;-) So, do you know if there's a standard, portable and safe way to achieve this in C? • Handling missing data

  Say I have a simple helpdesk application which logs calls made by users. I would typically have such fields in a table relating to the call e.g. CallID, Description, CustomerID etc. I Would also have a table of customers including CustomerID, Username, Password, FullName etc. Now when a user is deleted from the customers table then the inner join between the calls table and the users table to find out historically which user logged a call would produce no results. How do people usually deal with this? Have seperate customer and useraccount tables Just disable the accounts so the data is still available Record the customers name in the calls table as a seperate field. or any other methods / suggestions?

• Data validation between SQL replicated tables

  Hi All, I am trying to figure out a way to validate the data in my publisher and subscriber in SQL 2005 replication. I thought of using sp_publication_validation, but it needs db_owner permission and we are not allowed to have it in our company. So I did bit more reading and found out about two other SPs that I think work for me. First one is sp_article_validation, which I plan to run on the publisher. For each article that I call this SP, its gonna give the row count and a checksum. With that info, I intend to call sp_table_validation on the subscriber, passing the row count and checksum from the previous SP, there by validating both tables. What do you guys think? Is this a proven way to validate data in replication? There is very little documentation on these SPs.   I have a PHP web application environment. I am using Slim Framework as REST interface for my application. My application front-end is written using Backbone.js and jQuery. There is a utility (.jar file) which when I use command line makes a remote call (I guess this is a Web Service) which returns me the data. how do I best incorporate this into my webapplication described on top? My application front end will have a Button that should make an AJAX call to the REST Interface and fetch the data as JSON. My approach: PHP-REST interface url is: /api/phprestapi.php exists Add a JAVA-REST interface at url: /api/javarestapi.java (Perhaps) to separate these two Existing Environment: LAMP Stack on Ubuntu How do I achieve this? • jQuery AJAX & an ASP.NET web service works locally but not remotely

  Interesting one here. I have an ASP.NET 1.1 project that contains a web service in it. I'm using jQuery's AJAX functionality to call some services from the client. This is what my code looks like: $.ajax({ type: "POST", url: 'foo.asmx/functionName', data: 'foo1=' + foo1 + '&foo2=' + foo2, dataType: "xml", success: function(xml) { //do something with my xml data }, error: function(request, error){ //handle my error } }); This works great when I run the site from my IDE on localhost. However, when I deploy this site to any other server I get a parsererror error from jQuery. It does not appear to even call my service as I dropped in some code to write a log file to disk and it's not making it there. The same exact XML should be returned from both my localhost and the server I deployed to. Any ideas?

  Hi folks, I have a function, that returns the next higher value of a Dictionary-Keys-List compared to a given value. If we have a Key-List of {1, 4, 10, 24} and a given value of 8, the function would return 10. Obviously the type of the Value-Part of the Dictionary doesn't matter for the function, the function-code for a Dictionary<int, int> and Dictionary<int, myClass> would be the same. How has the method-head have to look like, when I want to call the function with any Dictionary, that has int as key-Type and the value-Type is irrelevant? I tried: private int GetClosedKey(Dictionary<int, object> list, int theValue); but it says that there are illegal arguments, when I call it with a Dictionary. I don't want to copy'n'paste the function for each different value-type that my function may be called. Any idea, how to accomplish that? Thanks in advance, Frank

  I have a script where it accepts a varying number of arguments. I want to use func_get_args to perform operations on said arguments. If I have one function like this: function Something() { foreach(func_get_args($this) as $functions) { // Do something } // Return.. } I want to be able to call this function in, for example, another function to add/save entries. The add/save function would have arguments 'title', 'description' etc.. I basically want to know if there is a way to detect the context of a function call. Can I pass something to func_get_args that will let it know that its called in a certain function? So if I do: function Save($title, $desc) { $vars = $this->Something(); } I want $vars to contain $title and $desc after modifying them.

Args> void something(Args... args) { std::tuple<Args...> tuple; // not initializing for sake of example std::get<0>(tuple) = 5; } It works if you call it like so: int x = 10; something<int>(x); However, it does not work if you call it like this: int x = 10; something<int&>(x); Because of the assignment to 5. Assuming that I cannot, for whatever reason, initialize the tuple when it is defined, how might I get this to work when specifying the type as a reference? Specifically, I would like the tuple to be std::tuple<int> even when Args... is int&.

• Calling Javascript after linking to another page

  I am doing an integration with a support system (Helpstream) and I am currently working on doing some in-app context sensitive help. I have put in a link that will send the user to a section of Helpstream that will allow them to ask a question. Problem is, there are buttons on the page that call Javascript that will bring up a lightbox where the user fills out a form to submit a question. What I need to do is have that form come up after the user goes through the link, so essentially run the Javascript once the user hits the page. The call that I have to implement is NewTopic.CreateNew({type:"Question"}) Any tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

• Simple Sinatra Ajax Not Working

  I was trying make an AJAX call from a static file on my computer to a simple sinatra service. The ajax call was returning with an error and no details. The server logged no errors either. Another strange symptom was that the Origin in the request header was null. I turns out that you can't make cross domain ajax calls without a little extra effort. You can set the Access-Control-Allow-Origin header on your sinatra response to expose your service to external domains using a snippet like this: get '/hi' do response['Access-Control-Allow-Origin'] = '*' content_type 'text/plain' "Hello World" end There's also another header you can set to allow other HTTP Methods besides gets, Access-Control-Request-Method. You can find more information by searching around for CORS: Cross Origin Resource Sharing and the previously mentioned headers. Oh, and in case you want to do this in Rails as well you can do something like this in your controller: after_filter :set_access_control_headers def set_access_control_headers headers['Access-Control-Allow-Origin'] = '*' headers['Access-Control-Request-Method'] = '*' end

How can we call methods of the shared object in another application, if the object itself is not recognized in the other application ? i am getting a runtime error when object gets typecasted, as that object is not defined in the calling applicatoin . If i typecast it to super interface and have the interface in another application. When i call getClass() on the object returned from the runtimestore.   I have a Qt 4 GUI where I need to have a option in a drop-down menu that allows the user to choose to restart the computer. I realize this might seem redunant with the ability to restart the computer in other ways, but the choice needs to stay there. I've tried using system() to call the following: a suid-root shell script a non-suid shell script a suid-root binary program and all of them just cause reboot: must be superuser to be printed. Using system() to call reboot directly does the same thing. I'm not especially attached to using system() to do this, but it seemed like the most direct choice. How can I reboot the system from the GUI?

  In my JSP page I am using post method while submitting the page. So once I go from Page 1 to page 2. In Page 2, If I press F5 I am getting alert as "To display this page, Firefox must send information that will repeat any action (such as a search or order confirmation) that was performed earlier." • Rails - Rendering a Partial without having to use "_" in front of the filename?

  How do I render a partial without having to supply the "_" in front of the file name? Is there a parameter I can call to not use it? This problem popped up using RABL and Backbone - using RABL requires me to have a file in my views like "index.json.rabl". But, when I use embed the JSON right on the page load (as is usual with Backbone), I'm required to call the file "index.json.rabl". These 2 files are the exact same thing, just required to have different names. I'm looking to use just 1 file, "index.json.rabl" and force the render() function to look for that file name, without the "".

  I am getting the java.lang.NullPointerException on createTabContent for the following code. There are two tabspecs. When I called and set the tab , changed the tabs for the first time it is ok. • Reading in MIPS external file so another file can use it?

  Hey all, I'm working on this final thing for my MIPS project and it's deceptively easy. I need to get a procedure (called feed) and let its main driver program use it by reading it in. I know that I'm supposed to use the call code 14 and .globl sym (I think) in order to feed it into the file and have it read it. I just need a basic tutorial or something, as I CANNOT find it on the Internet or in my book (just lists the call code, real helpful). Here's what I know: I need to use read, but I also need a file descriptor (don't know where to get it). I need to put the buffer in $a1 and the length in $a2. Well, that's about it. If there's any decent tutorial you could whip up or if there is one online that I don't see let me know please :). I just need a push in the right direction, I'm sure it can't be too difficult, just can't find any info on it!

• best method in jquery for replacing rows in a table after server side processing such as mysql sorti

  What is the 'best practice' when returning dynamic data for a table (server side sorting, filtering etc from a db) ? Do you return just the data in json, and repeatedly clone a row element, replacing the values in each row (thus decreasing the size of the ajax call, but increasing the client side processing), or return the full html, and replace with .html or .append? Or is there another method I'm missing? This is a frequent situation in my app, and in some cases a bottleneck, and I am unsure if what I am doing is the best solution. Currently, I return the row html and use a single .append call, after emptying all the rows except the header.

• iDevice for Dummies: Can a device be assigned multiple provisions (Personal/Enterprise)?

  Hi guys, Is it possible to assign multiple provisions to an iDevice? To be honest, I'm not sure if I'm using the correct terminology, but basically, I'm developing an iPad app for a company and I've only been testing it in the simulator because I don't have a registration to the developer program and they haven't setup their enterprise registration yet either. And I'm sure you all know how limited the simulator is... I don't really care about the $99 it costs to join, but what I'm worried about is having my iDevices locked permanently to my personal registration and unable to switch back and forth to the enterprise registration. I'd appreciate it if someone can explain to me how the registrations work. And keep in mind, I'm a dummy. :) Thanks in advance!

I get a return value of 1. But I can't re-create this in the python. Any guidelines ?
