• My experience working with Teradata SQL Assistant

It seems like unless I click on that "new" button on top, whatever SQL I generate from right-click just overrides the current SQL in the window. I'm probably missing a "generate new sql in new window" setting The default Teradata SQL Assistant doesn't execute just the SQL query I highlighted. There is a setting I have to change first. I'm not really happy that the SQL assistant and SQL admin are different app. Still trying to get used to the fact that I can't quickly look up a table's keys/relationships while writing query. I have to switch between windows. LOVE the execution plan / explanation. I think that part is better done than MS SQL in some ways. The error messages can be better. I feel that Teradata .NET provider sends smaller query command over than others. I don't have any hard data to support my claim. One of my query in SSRS was passing multi-valued parameters to another query, and got error "Teradata 3577 row size or sort key size overflow". The search on this error says the solution is to cast result column into smaller data type, but I found that the problem was that the parameter passed into the where clause could not be too large. I wish Teradata SQL Assistant would remember the window size I just adjusted to. Every time I execute the query, the result set, query, and exec log auto re-adjust back to the default size. In SSMS, if I adjust the result set area to be smaller, it would stay like that if I execute query in the same window.

• Unable to modify variables phpmyadmin via variables tab (Xampp)

  I am quite new to phpmyadmin configuration. I had project where utf8 encoding is needed. What i'm trying to do is to change the variables text/char all into utf8. I changed, yes at that moment the values changed into values I wanted. But then when I terminate Xampp and reenters phpmyadmin page or even refreshing the page, all the values restored to default (original values). My phpmyadmin had default user as root and hadn't been set a password yet. There is also no logout button in phpmyadmin landing page. I had difficult time even to set the server connection collation (hangs indefinitely and never seems can be updated). phpmyadmin version:4.1.6 mysql:5.5.36 (latest version) I doubt this could be due to malformed installation, because same things happened in my other computer too (exactly the same versions). what could be wrong? thanks.

• Problem with WCF-SQL Adapter

  When using WCF receive adapter with SQL binding in Polling mode please be aware of the following problem. Problem: At some regular but seemingly random intervals the application stops processing new requests, places a lock on the database and prevent other application from accessing it. Initially it looked like DTC issue, as it was distributed transaction that stalled most of the time. Symptoms: Orchestration instances in Dehydrated state, receive location not picking up new messages, exclusive locks on database tables, errors in DTC trace. Cause: Microsoft has confirmed that there is a bug in the WCF-SQL adapter. In the receive adapter binding configuration there's receiveTimeout property set to 10 minutes by default. If during this period data is not found in the table the adapter would start new thread and allocate more memory without releasing old resources. Thus if there's no new data in the table for a long time a new thread will be created in the host instance every 10 minutes until it reaches threshold (1000) and then there's no threads left for this host instance and it can't start/complete any tasks. Then this host instance won't be able to do anything. If other artifacts are hosted in the instance they will suffer consequences as well. Solution: - Set receiveTimeout to the maximum time 24.20:31:23.6470000. - Place WCF-SQL receive locations in separate host to provide its own thread pool and eliminate impact on other processes - Ensure WCF-SQL dedicated host instances are restarted at interval less or equal to receiveTimeout to flush threads and memory - Monitor performance counters Process/Thread Count/BTSNTSvc{n} for thread count trend and respond to alert if it grows by restarting host instance If you use WCF-SQL Adapter in the Notification mode then make sure to remove sqlAdapterInboundTransactionBehavior otherwise this location will exhibit the same issue. In this case though, setting receiveTimeout doesn't help and new thread will be created at default intervals (10 min) ignoring maximum setting.

• Plesk file permissions - Apache/PHP conflicting with user accounts.

  Hiya, I'm building a Drupal site which performs various automatic disk operations using the apache user (id=40). The problem is that the site was set up on a subdomain belonging to user ID 10001 (ie my main FTP account) so the filesystem belongs to that user ID. So I keep getting errors like this: warning: move_uploaded_file() [function.move-uploaded-file]: SAFE MODE Restriction in effect. The script whose uid is 10001 is not allowed to access /var/www/vhosts/domain.com/httpdocs/sites/default/files/images/user owned by uid 48 in /var/www/vhosts/domain.com/httpdocs/includes/file.inc on line 579. I've tried changing the apache group in httpd.conf to apache:psacln, psacln being the default group for all web users but that's not helped. The situation now is: ..../files/images/ = 777 and chown = ftplogin:psacln ..../files/images/user = 775 and chown = apache:psacln ..../files/tmp = 777 and chown = ftplogin:psacln So apparently uid 40 and 10001 both have permissions to write to any of the 3 directories involved, but still can't. Am i missing something here? Can anyone help? Thanks!

• How to start a s3ql script automatically on boot?

  I've been experimenting with s3ql on Ubuntu 10.04, using it to mount Amazon S3 buckets. However, I'd really like it to mount them automatically. Does anyone know how to do that? I've been working on a script, which works when its run from from the commandline, but for some reason I can't get it to run automatically on boot. Does anyone have any ideas? • Juju Openstack bundle: Can't launch an instance

After changing vip_iface strings to point to right devices, e.g., br0 instead of eth0, and defining "/mnt/loopback|30G", in Cinder's block-device string, am able to navigate through openstack dashboard, error free.   Suppose you have a Proxy based Web Service using Oracle Service Bus. In a stage in the request pipeline,  you are using a Publish action to publish the incoming message to a JMS queue using a Business Service. What if the outbound transport provider throws an exception (outside of your pipeline)? Is your pipeline able to catch the error with an error handler?? This situation could occur because of a faulty connection, suspended queue, or some other reason. Here is the Request Pipeline in our simple test case. With an Error Handler added to the message flow containing a simple Log action. By default, the Publish action will invoke the service in a fire and forget fashion. Therefore any exception that occurs in the outbound transport will go unnoticed as shown in the following Invocation Trace. So what now? In a message flow, you can apply a Routing Options action to modify any or all of the following properties in the outbound request: URI, Quality of Service, Mode, Retry parameters, Message Priority. Now add the Routing Options action to the Request Action as shown below. Click the Routing Options to display its properties in the Properties View. Select the QoS option to set the Quality of Service element. Select Exactly Once to override the default setting, and Republish the project. The invocation will now block until the message is completely processed. Trying the same test case as earlier generates the following Invocation Trace showing that the Error Handler is now triggered.

  I've got an old laptop that is running Windows 2000 & Windows 98 in a multi-boot configuration. I need to add MS-DOS to that list of startup options. I've already added a primary partition, formatted it for FAT16 and made it bootable, and installed MS-DOS 6.22. My question is, how do I add my MS-DOS partition to the list of startup options? More information: My single hard drive has three primary partitions: 0: FAT32 Windows 2000 1: FAT32 Windows 98 2: FAT(16) MS-DOS 6.22 Currently, the boot-up screen lists Windows 2000 and Windows 98 as options, with Windows 2000 as the default choice. • Management Reporter Installation – Lessons Learned Part II - Dynamics GP

  After feeling pretty good about my deployment skills of Management Reporter for Dynamics GP a few weeks ago, I ran into two additional lessons learned that I wanted to share. First, on another new deployment, I got the error shown below which says “An error occurred while creating the database.  View the installation log for additional information.”  This problem initially pointed me to KB 2406948 which did not provide resolution. After several hours of troubleshooting, I found there is an issue if the defaults database locations in SQL Server are set to the root of a drive. You will want to set the default to something like the following to get it installed; C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL10.MSSQLSERVER\MSSQL\DATA.  My default database locations for the data and log files were indeed sitting on the H:\ and I:\ drives. To change this property in your SQL Server Instance you need to open SQL Server Management Studio, right click on the server, and choose properties and then database settings. When I initially got the error, I briefly considered creating the ManagementReporter database by hand, but experience tells me that would have created more headaches down the road. The second problem I ran into with this particular deployment of Management Reporter happened when I started the FRx conversion utility.  The errors reads “The ‘Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0’ provider is not registered on the local machine. I had a suspicion that this error was related to the fact FRx uses outdated technology and I happened to be on a new install of Server 2008 R2.  A knowledge base search quickly pointed me to KB 2102486.   I'm following the tutorial following tutorial to get my Intel D2700DC motherboard's graphics working: http://daily.siebler.eu/2012/06/ubuntu-12-04-driver-for-intel-cedarview-atom-n2000-und-d2000-serie/ When I boot I'm getting a blank screen. I followed the tutorial and read all the comments. I've also tried: Install gdm and use this instead of lightdm (ubuntu default) sudo apt-get install gdm Remove previous pae kernel: http://www.liberiangeek.net/2011/11/remove-old-kernels-in-ubuntu-11-10-oneiric-ocelot/ Reboot before adding cedarview packages. Have tried with and without the "video=LVDS-1:d" to GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT variable in /etc/default/grub I still get a blank screen. I am plugged into a HD screen through the HDMI and have tried the DVI connector also. I can see the grub menu, then a little of the loading and then 'No signal'. • How to gain admin privileges on D-Link router if my isp is not allowing me to do so?

  So I switched to new ISP yesterday, they gave me a D-Link router, can't use my old router. I want to change the wireless password, went to 192.168.1.1, I can login with the the username and password user user, but not as admin. On the catalog it says that the default username and password are admin admin, tried that didn't work. Tried admin and no pass, tried many combinations, none worked. I asked some other users and they said that the isp is blocking the users from logging in as admins, and blocking the reset button, and said that there's a hack where you do something like: cmd telnet "router ip" and do something like dumpcfg. Could you please give a better explanation on how to gain admin privileges on your own router if your isp is not letting you do so by default?

• How secure is the encryption used by Microsoft Office 2007?

  I've read various articles about Microsoft's Office 2007 encryption and from what I gather 2007 is secure using all default options due to it using AES, and 2000 and 2003 can be configured secure by changing the default algorithm to AES. I was wondering if anyone else has read any other articles or know of any specific vulnerabilities involved with how they implement the encryption. I would like to be able to tell users that they can use this to send semi-sensitive documents as long as they use AES and a strong password. Thanks for the information.

• Two network interfaces and two IP addresses on the same subnet in Linux

  I recently ran into a situation where I needed two IP addresses on the same subnet assigned to one Linux host so that we could run two SSL/TLS sites. My first approach was to use IP aliasing, e.g. using eth0:0, eth0:1, etc, but our network admins have some fairly strict settings in place for security that squashed this idea: They use DHCP snooping and normally don't allow static IP addresses. Static addressing is accomplished by using static DHCP entries, so the same MAC address always gets the same IP assignment. This feature can be disabled per switchport if you ask and you have a reason for it (thankfully I have a good relationship with the network guys and this isn't hard to do). With the DHCP snooping disabled on the switchport, they had to put in a rule on the switch that said MAC address X is allowed to have IP address Y. Unfortunately this had the side effect of also saying that MAC address X is ONLY allowed to have IP address Y. IP aliasing required that MAC address X was assigned two IP addresses, so this didn't work. There may have been a way around these issues on the switch configuration, but in an attempt to preserve good relations with the network admins I tried to find another way. Having two network interfaces seemed like the next logical step. Thankfully this Linux system is a virtual machine, so I was able to easily add a second network interface (without rebooting, I might add - pretty cool). A few keystrokes later I had two network interfaces up and running and both pulled IP addresses from DHCP. But then the problem came in: the network admins could see (on the switch) the ARP entry for both interfaces, but only the first network interface that I brought up would respond to pings or any sort of TCP or UDP traffic. After lots of digging and poking, here's what I came up with. It seems to work, but it also seems to be a lot of work for something that seems like it should be simple. Any alternate ideas out there? Step 1: Enable ARP filtering on all interfaces: # sysctl -w net.ipv4.conf.all.arp_filter=1 # echo "net.ipv4.conf.all.arp_filter = 1" >> /etc/sysctl.conf From the file networking/ip-sysctl.txt in the Linux kernel docs: arp_filter - BOOLEAN 1 - Allows you to have multiple network interfaces on the same subnet, and have the ARPs for each interface be answered based on whether or not the kernel would route a packet from the ARP'd IP out that interface (therefore you must use source based routing for this to work). In other words it allows control of which cards (usually 1) will respond to an arp request. 0 - (default) The kernel can respond to arp requests with addresses from other interfaces. This may seem wrong but it usually makes sense, because it increases the chance of successful communication. IP addresses are owned by the complete host on Linux, not by particular interfaces. Only for more complex setups like load- balancing, does this behaviour cause problems. arp_filter for the interface will be enabled if at least one of conf/{all,interface}/arp_filter is set to TRUE, it will be disabled otherwise Step 2: Implement source-based routing I basically just followed directions from http://lartc.org/howto/lartc.rpdb.multiple-links.html, although that page was written with a different goal in mind (dealing with two ISPs). Assume that the subnet is 10.0.0.0/24, the gateway is 10.0.0.1, the IP address for eth0 is 10.0.0.100, and the IP address for eth1 is 10.0.0.101. Define two new routing tables named eth0 and eth1 in /etc/iproute2/rt_tables: ... top of file omitted ... 1 eth0 2 eth1 Define the routes for these two tables: # ip route add default via 10.0.0.1 table eth0 # ip route add default via 10.0.0.1 table eth1 # ip route add 10.0.0.0/24 dev eth0 src 10.0.0.100 table eth0 # ip route add 10.0.0.0/24 dev eth1 src 10.0.0.101 table eth1 Define the rules for when to use the new routing tables: # ip rule add from 10.0.0.100 table eth0 # ip rule add from 10.0.0.101 table eth1 The main routing table was already taken care of by DHCP (and it's not even clear that its strictly necessary in this case), but it basically equates to this: # ip route add default via 10.0.0.1 dev eth0 # ip route add 130.127.48.0/23 dev eth0 src 10.0.0.100 # ip route add 130.127.48.0/23 dev eth1 src 10.0.0.101 And voila! Everything seems to work just fine. Sending pings to both IP addresses works fine. Sending pings from this system to other systems and forcing the ping to use a specific interface works fine (ping -I eth0 10.0.0.1, ping -I eth1 10.0.0.1). And most importantly, all TCP and UDP traffic to/from either IP address works as expected. So again, my question is: is there a better way to do this? This seems like a lot of work for a seemingly simple problem.

• Can't get simple Apache VHost up and running

  Unfortunately, I can't seem to get a simple Apache VHost online. I used to simply have one VHost which bound to all: <VirtualHost *:80>, but this isn't appropriate for security anymore. I need to have one VHost for localhost requests (ie my dev server) and one for incoming requests via my domain name.
