• Android OutOfMemoryError - Loading JSON File

  The app I am working on needs to read a JSON file that may be anywhere from 1.5 to 3 MB in size. It seems to have no problem opening the file and converting the data to a string, but when it attempts to convert the string to a JSONArray, OutOfMemoryErrors are thrown. The exceptions look something like this: E/dalvikvm-heap( 5307): Out of memory on a 280-byte allocation. W/dalvikvm( 5307): Exception thrown (Ljava/lang/OutOfMemoryError;) while throwing internal exception (Ljava/lang/OutOfMemoryError;) One strange thing about this is that the crash only occurs every 2nd or 3rd time the app is run, leaving me to believe that the memory consumed by the app is not being garbage collected each time the app closes. Any insight into how I might get around this issue would be greatly appreciated. I am open to the idea of loading the file in chunks, but I'm not quite sure what the best approach is for such a task. • Eclipse code template to insert a bookmark?

  Eclipse has a nifty feature which allows you to define "templates" for code. I have created one to automatically put in a println and add a "TODO" comment. I'd like for this to also add a bookmark so I can easily find it again. (The codebase I am working with makes it unfeasible to use just the Task List to find what I need to do since there are a lot of TODOs laying around.) My current template is simply System.out.println("don't commit me!"); //TODO: fix this ${cursor}.

• UnitTest++ creates cmd windows, which can't be closed

  Hello, I have a setup for using UnitTest++ like this in VS2008. Sometimes the cmd window, which shows the console output of the unit tests just hangs. I can move the window, resize and stuff, but I'm unable to close it. I see the window in the App tab of the Task Manager, but not in the Process tab, "Switch to process" doesn't work either. Stop debugging or closing VS is also no help, it seems VS has lost control over this window. If this cmd window is lost, I'm unable to shutdown my computer, which is pretty annoying Any hints?

• Java File and ByteArray or InputStream - please quick help

  I want to use jFuge to play some MIDI music in an applet. There's a class for the MIDI pattern - Pattern - and the only method to load the pattern is from a File. Now, I don't know how applets load files and what not, but I am using a framework (PulpCore) that makes loading assets a simple task. If I need to grab an asset from a ZIP catalogue, I can use the Assets class which provides get() and getAsStream() methods. get() returns the given asset as a ByteArray, the other as an InputStream. I need jFuge to load the pattern from either ByteArray or InputStream. In pseudo-code, I would like to do this: Pattern.load(new File(Assets.get("mymidifile.midi"))); however there is no File constructor that would take a ByteArray. Suggestions, please?

  Hi, I'm trying to get to know Core Data (I'm a noob at iPhone development) and in order to do this I'm trying to get an object from the fetchedresultscontroller and NSlog it's name (a property of the object). I tried to do it like this: NSArray *ar = [NSArray arrayWithArray:[fetchedResultsController sections]]; Task *t = [ar objectAtIndex:0]; NSLog(@"%@", t.taskName); However, the app crashed with this error: the app crashes with the error Terminating app due to uncaught exception 'NSInvalidArgumentException', reason: '* -[_NSDefaultSectionInfo taskName]: unrecognized selector sent to instance 0x3d1f670' I have since learned that you need to use the fetched objects property for this, but then what is sections for? Thanks for any help, sorry if this is a supremely stupid question. I've looked over the documentation but still don't understand.

• IOKit header assert.h gone? [answered]

  I want to get the hardware address of my mac's ethernet card. In all samples I saw in include on IOKit/assert.h . Which doesn't seem to exist on my system. GCC throws an error saying he doesn't know the type IOEthernetAddress. Is assert.h necessary for my task? It would be great if someone coud give me a working sample.   How do I programmatically read an incoming email with .NET. I need a method to take the content of email message (in this case XML) on a POP server and read it into my application. Ideally this could be solved by: .NET code that I can run as a background task on my webserver to process the email. A service that can POST the contents of the email to my webserver. Although I'm open to other options. EDIT: Copied from the "non-answer": Currently, we're looking at using the email accounts our hosting company provides. Our own mail server could potentially be an option, but its something the we'd need to contact the host about.

• How to Obtain Data to Pre-Populate Forms.

  The objective is to have a form reflect user's defined constraints on a search. At first, I relied entirely upon server-side scripting to achieve this; recently I tried to shift the functionality to JavaScript. On the server side, the search parameters are stored in a ColdFusion struct which makes it particularly convenient to have the data JSON'ed and sent to the client. Then it's just a matter of separately iterating over 'checkable' and text fields to reflect the user's search parameters; jQuery proved to be exceptionally effective in simplifying the workload. One observable difference lies in performance. The second method appeared to be somewhat slower and didn't work in IE8. Evidently, the returned JSON'ed struct was seen as an empty object. I'm sure it can be fixed, though before spending any more time with it, I'm curious to hear how others would approach the task. I'd gladly appreciate any suggestions. --Stan

• How many cron jobs are too many?

  I have a couple of cron jobs for basic maintenance which aren't very resource-intensive. I also have custom task scheduling (which is just calling a .php file and passing information via GET, ie: cronjob.php?param1=param ...). These can add up pretty quickly. These just call system commands and run external programs (Nmap is one of them). They usually don't take long either. Anyway, can anyone tell me, roughly what point is too many? I know it's hard to say since it depends on what job is being run and how often, but at what point does the crontab program start "struggling"? Anyone have any idea? Thanks.

  I'm writing a workflow system that is driven entirely at each step by explicit human interaction. That is, a task is assigned to a person, that person selects from a few limited options {approve, reject, forward}, and then it is either sent along to the next person or terminated. Just curious of Oracle Streams/AQ has anything to offer over flat tables managed by regular web application code. The amount of processing after each action is fairly limited and the volume is not terribly high, so there's not really a need to throttle things by throwing them into a queue. What are some of the benefits of introducing a queue structure, or is it overkill for my situation?

I don't want any cart functionality or other such features, I just want to display the products,their specifications and images etc. on the website and give my client an admin panel to manage products. Now I looked into various PHP shopping cart scripts but couldn't find a way to remove price info from the display. I am not experienced enough in web development to make a product catalogue from scratch so if you guys could point me out in right direction I would be very grateful. • WPF - 'Relational' Data in XAML Using DataContext

  Hi, Say I have a list of Employee IDs from one data source and a separate data source with a list of Employees, with their ID, Surname, FirstName, etc. Is it possible in XAML only to get the Employee's name from the second data source and display it next to the ID, using something like this (with the syntax corrected)?.. <TextBlock x:Name="EmployeeID" Text="{Binding ID}"></TextBlock> <TextBlock Grid.Column="1" DataContext="{StaticResource EmployeeList[**where ID = {Binding ID}**]}" Text="{Binding Surname}"/> I'm thinking back to my days using XML and XSLT with XPath to achieve the kind of thing shown above. Is this kind of thing possible in XAML? Or do I need to 'denormalize' the data first in code, into one consolidated list? It seems like it should be possible to do this simple task using XAML only, but I can't quite get my head around how you would switch the DataContext correctly and what the syntax would be to achieve this.   Hi guys! I read the following statement: The x86 architecture includes a specific segment type called the Task State Segment (TSS), to store hardware contexts. Although Linux doesn't use hardware context switches, it is nonetheless forced to set up a TSS for each distinct CPU in the system. I am wondering: Why doesn't Linux use the hardware support for context switch? Isn't the hardware approach much faster than the software approach?   I know this is a very subjective question but as text rendering in WPF is still an issue I have to make the best out of it. In WPF Application text tend to become blurry that is no secret. Also there are countless website about this topic and how you get around this problem. But I wonder ... text blurriness seems to affect some fonts more that others. So I am still looking for the best font available to get around this issue. So far I am still using Arial and it doesn't look good. But I am sure some other font are more suitable for the task at hand.

I also referred the questions here and here, but that is what I am already doing, still no success. • SSIS - How do I see/set the field types in a Recordset?

  I'm looking at an inherited SSIS package, and a stored procedure is sending records to a recordset called USER:NEW_RECORDS. It's of type Object, and the value is System.Object. It is then used for inputting that data to a SQL table. We're getting an error, because it seems that the numeric results of the stored procedure are being put in a DT_WSTR field, and then failing when it is then put into a decimal field in the database. Most of the records are working, but one, which happens to have a longer number of decimal digits, is failing. I want to see exactly what my SSIS recordset field types are, and probably change them, so I can force the data to be truncated properly and copied. Or, perhaps, I'm not even looking at this correctly. The data is put into the recordset using a SQL Task that executes the stored procedure.

• Adding links to full change forms for inline items in django admin?

  I have a standard admin change form for an object, with the usual StackedInline forms for a ForeignKey relationship. I would like to be able to link each inline item to its corresponding full-sized change form, as the inline item has inlined items of its own, and I can't nest them. I've tried everything from custom widgets to custom templates, and can't make anything work. So far, the "solutions" I've seen in the form of snippets just plain don't seem to work for inlines. I'm getting ready to try some DOM hacking with jQuery just to get it working and move on. I hope I must be missing something very simple, as this seems like such a simple task! Using Django 1.2.

• console windows not close after stopping program

  Hello, Visual Studio 2005 C++ Windows XP Pro I have a sample application that I am testing, that links with boost libraries. However, the program runs ok. However, when I try and stop the program by clicking the 'Stop Debugging' button. The program ends, but the console window remains open. So I have many of them, as during my testing I am starting and stopping the application. Even when I try and close it by clicking the close button it has no affect. And it doesn't seem to appear under task manager when the program ends. The only way I can close them if I reboot windows. I am thinking it might be a thread that has not closed, and maybe that is keeping the console windows open. Many thanks for any advice,

• large amount of data in many text files - how to process?

  Hi, I have large amounts of data (a few terabytes) and accumulating... They are contained in many tab-delimited flat text files (each about 30MB). Most of the task involves reading the data and aggregating (summing/averaging + additional transformations) over observations/rows based on a series of predicate statements, and then saving the output as text, HDF5, or SQLite files, etc. I normally use R for such tasks but I fear this may be a bit large. Some candidate solutions are to 1) write the whole thing in C (or Fortran) 2) import the files (tables) into a relational database directly and then pull off chunks in R or Python (some of the transformations are not amenable for pure SQL solutions) 3) write the whole thing in Python Would (3) be a bad idea? I know you can wrap C routines in Python but in this case since there isn't anything computationally prohibitive (e.g., optimization routines that require many iterative calculations), I think I/O may be as much of a bottleneck as the computation itself. Do you have any recommendations on further considerations or suggestions? Thanks

  I'm just learning WPF. I'm using VS 2008. I've added an Image control to my XAML, and I added a GIF file to the project. If I use the XAML Designer's property panel to set the image's Source property, the drop-down list for the Source property contains the following: C:\Sample Project;component/pinHorizontal.gif There are several problems with this: My project, named "Sample Project," is not in the root of my drive. Why is ";component" in there? If I select this value as given, I get the error "Property value is not valid" (yeah, no kidding). If I go into the XAML source and set the Source property manually, like so: The XAML Designer gives me this error: "The file pinHorizontal.gif is not part of the project or its 'Build Action' property is not set to 'Resource'." Why is this task so difficult? How do I assign an image source?

  Is that possible to upload an image from Photoshop (for example, an open image exported to jpeg) to some web place - REST service, FTP etc by using scripting features of Photoshop? For example - I have an image open in Photoshop and then execute some special script that sends an exported version of it to some place over the web.   I have the opportunity to go back for MSCS and the closest college's main research is in computer security and forensics. I've always been interested in computer networks and security but I have no interest whatsoever to run cables or add users to the network( which is what the network people do where I currently work ). I wanted to know how may I find out the types of day to day task a computer security expert does? I don't mean the jobs you find on dice or indeed. I'm talking about the type of careers that start out at the NSA or DIA. Also, I'm wondering what the pay is like for these types of fields? Thanks to all that reply.
