  • Visual Editor vs Manual code

    I'm not sure how it is using other frameworks but this questions is strictly regarding Java swing. Is it better to use a Visual Editor to place objects or to manually code the placement of the objects onto the frame (Layout managers or null layouts)? From my experience I've had a lot of trouble using Visual editors when it comes to different screen resolutions or changing the window size. Using manual code to place objects I've found that my GUIs behave a lot better with regard to the screen size issue. However when I want to change a small part of my GUI it takes a lot more work compared to using a visual editor Just wondering what people's thoughts were on this?

  • When is it good to start using project management applications?

    Hello, I was wondering, when is the right time or the correct project size to start using project management applications ( like Redmine or Trac ). I have a serious project, for now it's only me developing, but I use redmine to set my project versions, issues, and estimations. I think it's a good idea, because you never know when somebody else is going to join the team, and also allows me to organize myself effectively. I ask this question because I was Teaching Assistant at my university for one year in a row for a course, and I got questions about this very very often. While I'm a believer of the KISS principle, I think that learning to use this tools early is a win-win most of the time. I really believe that we can avoid this question to become argumentative, and that there's somewhat of a consensus about this issue, which I consider quite important in todays software development world. So, when is the right time ? what is the correct project/team size ?

  • How to sort a Ruby Hash by number value?

    Hi everyone, I have a counter hash that I am trying to sort by count. The problem I am running into is that the default Hash.sort function sorts numbers like strings rather than by number size. i.e. Given Hash: metrics = {"sitea.com" => 745, "siteb.com" => 9, "sitec.com" => 10 } Running this code: metrics.sort {|a1,a2| a2[1]<=>a1[1]} will return a sorted array: [ 'siteb.com', 9, 'sitea.com', 745, 'sitec.com', 10] Even though 745 is a larger number than 9, 9 will appear first in the list. When trying to show who has the top count, this is making my life difficult. :) Any ideas on how to sort a hash (or an array even) by number value size? I appreciate any help.

I think it must be simple but I'm finding it confusing nevertheless. r = some constant less than m or n [m,n] = size(C); S = zeros(m-r,n-r); for i=1:m-r for j=1:n-r S(i,j) = sum(diag(C(i:i+r-1,j:j+r-1))); end end The code calculates a table of scores, S, for a dynamic programming algorithm, from another score table, C. The diagonal summing is to generate scores for individual pieces of the data used to generate C, for all possible pieces (of size r). Thanks in advance for any answers!   • Jar File doesn't work (It did not launch the application)

    Previously, I have no problem in running the JAR file generated by NetBeans. However, I encountered the problem now all of a sudden. When I click on the jar, it did not launch the application as if nothing is clocked. But, it can be run from the project. And also, the size of the Jframe for desktop Java application cannot be set from the NetBeans code also. When it runs, the size of the window different from in the designer. Any help please.

  • AsyncListViewAdapter + SimplePager, why is inactive pager clearing the table?

    I'm trying to make CellTable work together with AsyncListViewAdapter<T> and SimplePager<T>. The data gets displayed, but when the pager should be 'deaf' (meaning when all existing data are displayed) it still receives clicks and, more importantly, makes the displayed data go away. Instead of my data 'loading' indicator gets displayed, and it keep loading and loading... Obviously nothing gets loaded, as it doesn't even call the onRangeChanged handler. I went through the code-snippets in this thread, but I can't see anything suspicions on what I've been doing. Is there some obvious answer to a rookie mistake?   • Hibernate Lazy init exception in spring scheduled job

    I have a spring scheduled job (@Scheduled) that sends emails from my system according to a list of recipients in the DB. This method is annotated with the @Scheduled annotation and it invokes a method from another interface, the method in the interface is annotated with the @Transactional annotation. Now, when i invoke the scheduled method manually, it works perfectly. But when the method is invoked by spring scheduler i get the LazyInitFailed exception in the method implementing the said interface.   • Extract co-ordinates from a vector of co-ordinates and save to file

    I have a vector which contains a list co-ordinates ...x1,y1 ; x2,y2....xn,yn I am trying to extract each individual element which is a co-ordinate and then save them to file as a nice delineated co-ord pair which can be easily read. Or what would be nice i to save them so I can plot something in excel e.t.c (as cols of x and y values). My original vector size is 31, and was originally constructed as vector<vector<Point> > myvector( previous vector.size() ); Thanks !

    I'm trying to create a set of overloaded templates for arrays/pointers where one template will be used when the compiler knows the size of the array and the other template will be used when it doesn't: template <typename T, size_t SZ> void moo(T (&arr)[SZ]) { ... } template <typename T> void moo(T *ptr) { ... } The problem is that when the compiler knows the size of the array, the overloads are ambiguous and the compile fails. Is there some way to resolve the ambiguity (perhaps via SFINAE) or is this just not possible.

  • tcpdf - HTML table showing up way too small

    Hi folks. I'm using tcpdf (http://www.tcpdf.org/) to generate PDFs of some tables and images. The images are loaded without an issue, but I'm having issues with the writeHTML() function. I can't seem to control the font sizes or table width/height through the HTML, so I end up with a tiny, tiny, tiny table that you have to print of and squint at to even attempt reading. I've tried editing the table itself, CSS, even putting the table itself inside an h1, but nothing is changing the font size. I have the font size in tcpdf set to 16, but this also has no affect. Has anyone else run into this issue?

    I was reading about rem units in CSS3, and was a little confused. If you use rem, do you still use em or does that replace it? For example: .selector { margin-bottom:24px; margin-bottom:2.4rem; font-size:16px; font-size:1.6rem; } or .selector { margin-bottom:24px; margin-bottom:2.4em; margin-bottom:2.4rem; } Just trying to figure out if rem takes the place of em, or if it's just another unit.

    Hi all, I have a structure defined like so: typedef struct { int n; int *n_p; void **list_pp; size_t rec_size; int n_buffs; size_t buff_size } fl_hdr_type; and in my code I Have a function for initlialization that has the following fl_hdr_type *fl_hdr; fl_hdr = malloc(sizeof(fl_hdr_type) + (buff_size_n * rec_size_n)); where those buffer size are passed in to the function to allow space for the buffers as well. The size is pretty small typically..100*50 or something like that..plenty of memory on this system to allocate it. Any ideas why this fails?

    I've got the following models: Team, Member, Assignment, Role The Team model has_many Members. Each Member has_many roles through assignments. Role assignments are Captain and Runner. I have also installed devise and CanCan using the Member model. What I need to do is limit each Team to have a max of 1 captain and 5 runners. I found this example, and it seemed to work after some customization, but on update ('teams/1/members/4/edit'). It doesn't work on create ('teams/1/members/new'). But my other validation (validates :role_ids, :presence = true ) does work on both update and create. Any help would be appreciated. Update: I've found this example that would seem to be similar to my problem but I can't seem to make it work for my app. It seems that the root of the problem lies with how the count (or size) is performed before and during validation. For Example: When updating a record... It checks to see how many runners there are on a team and returns a count. (i.e. 5) Then when I select a role(s) to add to the member it takes the known count from the database (i.e. 5) and adds the proposed changes (i.e. 1), and then runs the validation check. (Team.find(self.team_id).members.runner.count 5) This works fine because it returns a value of 6 and 6 5 so the proposed update fails without saving and an error is given. But when I try to create a new member on the team... It checks to see how many runners there are on a team and returns a count. (i.e. 5) Then when I select a role(s) to add to the member it takes the known count from the database (i.e. 5) and then runs the validation check WITHOUT factoring in the proposed changes. This doesn't work because it returns a value of 5 known runner and 5 = 5 so the proposed update passes and the new member and role is saved to the database with no error.     It seems the most obvious thing, but I just can't work out how to get the length of bytes sent over a network using a TCPClient and TCPListener? This is my code so far: 'Must listen on correct port- must be same as port client wants to connect on. ' Get the stream Dim networkStream As NetworkStream = tcpClient.GetStream() '' Read the stream into a byte array I need to get the length of the networkstream to set the size of the array of bytes I'm going to read the data into. But the networkStream.length is unsupported and does not work and throws an Notsupportedexception. The only other way I can think of is to send the size of the data before sending the data, but this seems the long way round.

The code uses a UIPickerView, but there's no reason to use a different view controller, like a UITableViewController that uses a table instead of a picker.     I am using javax.swing.SwingWorker for the first time. I want to update a JLabel from the interim result published by the swing worker as follows: publish("Published String"); Now to update the JLabel, I have coded the following: process(List<String> chunks) { if (chunks.size() > 0) { String text = chunks.get(chunks.size() - 1); label.setText(text); } } The above code works but my problem(or to be more specific, my doubt) is as follows: The above swing worker task is an annonymous inner class so it can access label field. But what if I want to make the swing worker class a non-inner class. Should I need to pass label as an argument to the constructor of swing worker class so that the process() method can access. Or Is there any other way? What approach does other developer follow to update UI components from the swing worker class' result when the swing worker class is not an inner class?

  • Setting Position of NSWindow before Display

And that even though I set the position before showing the window with "makeKeyAndOrderFront". The window is a NSPanel *. Anyone any ideas how to fix the jumping? Setting the position in awakeFromNib is not an option because the main controller is set later.

    I am using jquery for a quick and easy form validation My forms use the input's default value as a label and I have a little onfocus and onblur javascript function to show and hide this when the user starts to type: <input name='fnameREG' type='text' id='fnameREG' value='first name' size='70' onfocus='clearInput(this)' onblur='clearInput(this)' /> <input name='lnameREG' type='text' id='lnameREG' value='last name' size='70' onfocus='clearInput(this)' onblur='clearInput(this)' /> My issue with the validation is that when the submit button is clicked the pluggin thinks that all the fields are set because they have a default value. I looked but I couldn't find a supplied method to get round this. Thanks!
