• Disable system sleep during long builds

  From time to time I need to run a full build of the entire tool chain for our software on my development machine. To save on power my I've got my dev machine set to go sleep after 20 minutes of inactivity. Building the full tool chain can take up to an hour and I'll often just go to lunch. However, if I forget to disable sleep I can return to a sleeping machine with the build only partially complete. What I'm looking for is a way to automatically disable sleep while MSBuild is running. Does anyone know of a simple way of doing this?

• Boost::Archive causing weird linker error.

  Does anyone have a clue why those two lines would cause that linker error? std::ifstream ifs("filename.file"); boost::archive::binary_iarchive iarchv( ifs ); Error 8 fatal error LNK1104: cannot open file 'F:\dev\project\build\win32-unit\tests\Debug\framework_core_tests.lib' ramework_core_tests framework_core_tests The same happens with any Boost::Archive type. Its trying to link against a library of the same name as my executable for some reason when that project doesn't nor never existed and is not defined as a library to link against in my project files.

• Django "Error: cannot import name escape" on windows

  I cannot run the dev server because of this error ("Error: cannot import name escape"). I assume its because of modifications I've done to the project, but i have no idea how to find where the error is originating from to fix it. I don't import anything called escape anywhere. Update Using django-admin.py rather than the projects manage.py, don't know why... Update 2 Now manage.py is working. This may be because I had a file called email.py which was trying to import email.mime.text (ie trying to import itself) renaming to sendemail.py solved this problem.

[Edit2] the purpose is to grant access to authenticated users, except for one file that has to be allowed for everyone.   As per the documentation link given below: When a lock wait timeout occurs, the current statement is not executed. The current transaction is not rolled back. (Until MySQL 5.0.13 InnoDB rolled back the entire transaction if a lock wait timeout happened. You can restore this behavior by starting the server with the --innodb_rollback_on_timeout option, available as of MySQL 5.0.32. http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.0/en/innodb-parameters.html#sysvar_innodb_lock_wait_timeout Does it mean that when a lock wait timeout occurs, it compromises the transactional integrity? "roollback on timeout" was the default behaviour till 5.0.13 and I guess that was the correct way to handle such situations. Does anyone think that this should be the default behaviour and the user should not be asked to add a parameter for a functionality that is taken for granted?

• Suggest an Alternative for glTranslate() load on CPU.

  I have been working on a project of OpenGL. Here I just display a boat moving along with some option's for view change.. Its a 2D program. The thing is I have used many glTranslate functions for moving the boat in the code. It works properly in Windows(DEV-CPP) but when executed in Fedora it has a very very very slow movement for boat. When checked for the CPU LOAD it was huge. So any thing which i can try to move the boat faster? Please help :)

• Tomcat myfaces dynamic source files

  Hi, I'm going to try and make as much sense as possible here. We are working on a myfaces 2 app in tomcat. On our local dev machines, whenever we want to change one of our xhtml files, we have to stop the server, deploy and then start the server back up. This is cumbersome and makes making small changes to the view tedious. I tried changing the deployed xhtml file in tomcat, but the server only picks up the new change after a restart. Is there any type of config in myfaces or tomcat I can do to force the rebuilding of these source xhtml's every time?

  Hi, I'm a starting a project which consist in sending a request to a web-service (which is already available) and parsing the response. I have the WSDL and URL endpoints. Does anyone have a startup tutorial on how to build something from there? I would like to use Axis2 + Axiom to send the service request and receive and process the response. I'm using eclipse as dev env. I've been search for a tut on how to do this but with no success. Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated!

• Firefox 17 and CSS borders based triangles = crap

  Like many front-end devs, I've been using the border trick to render triangles in CSS. http://apps.eky.hk/css-triangle-generator/ this generator helps with the technique. Today, like every week (almost), the Firefox team released a new version without any clear changelog on the rendering engine. Now we can see an ungraceful gray border around those triangles. I haven't found a trick to get rid of it yet. On top of that, before Firefox 17, when people were complaining about how aliased those triangles looked, an additional trick was to set the border-style property to "dashed" instead of solid. Using firebug on the triangle generator, you can quickly see how it shows up now, and cry yourself to death. I hope a more brillant front-end dev than myself will find a fix for this and share it here. Thanks

• Making Eclipse behave like Visual Studio

  I'm doing some Android dev, and I much prefer Visual Studio, but I'll have to use Eclipse for this. Has anyone made a tool that switches Eclipse to look and behave more like visual studio? I mainly can't stand its clippyesqe suggestions on how I should program (Yes, I know I have not yet used that private field! Thanks Eclipse!), or its incredibly lousy intellisense. For example, in eclipse, if I don't type "this" first, its intellisense won't realize I want to look for locally scoped members. Also, the TAB to complete VS convention is drilled into my head, and Eclipse is ENTER to complete, I could switch everything by hand but that would take hours, and I was hoping someone had some sort of theme or something that has already done it :)

• htaccess: only do [some lines of code] for one domain, no others.

  Say I have a htaccess file shared by "dev.server" and "server.site.com". The first domain should allow all users to access it unchallenged (it only exists on my local development server). The second domain I want to authenticate users with Apache (NOT by database). The code to authenticate users is: AuthType Basic AuthName "Server Admin" AuthUserFile "/path/to/passwd" require valid-user What I can't do is make those 4 lines only matter if the domain is "server.site.com". How can I do this? I searched for something like <IfEnv HTTP_HOST "site.server.com"> but had no luck.

• Spawning Process Never Finishes on ASP.NET Page

  The code below spawns the process and sits forever, never finishing. It doesn't matter what process I run. If I use delegates it doesn't work either. It just hangs up in my dev and on the test enviornment. Also, if I use Shell with Wait it does the same thing. If I set wait to false in either approach it works just fine. It's ASP.NET 2.0 VB.NET DotNetNuke 4.0 on Windows Server 2003. I can't even phathom why this would hang up. UPDATE: It causes the CPU to throttle up but it's not running anything. It's like there's something weird going on in the threading. • Access to path denied when saving an image with ASP.NET 4.0 project

  I have an existing application that was written in .NET 3.5. The piece of code in question is using the FileUpload control and its SaveAs method. Its worked perfectly for the past six months, but I've recently upgraded the project to .NET 4.0 and I'm now receiving an "Access to path (...) is denied" every time the method is called. It works fine locally in dev mode but fails on my prod server. I've upgraded the website to run under .NET 4.0 and I've made sure the account (Network Service) it runs under in the app pool has full control. Other than upgrading to .NET 4.0, nothing has changed for the project. Any ideas or suggestions? Thanks in advance.

• Is there anyway to bring web @Context into JUnit (CXF+Spring)

  I am trying to create unit test environment to test RESTFul services (cfx+spring) in my dev environemnt. To test RESTFul Services, I require @Context within JUnit test cases. @Context should contain HttpRequest, HttpSession, ServletContext, ServletConfig and all other webserver related information. I have setup the JUnit for the above, but when I run, @Context is coming as null. This could be because there is no webserver running and there is no @Context. I am just doubting whether there is a way to created sample web @Context and pass to JUnit. Any other ideas are welcome to bring web @Context into JUnit test cases. Thank you, Sudheer

• where is everything in django admin?

  Hi all, I would like to figure out where everything is in django admin. Since i am currently trying to modify the behavior rather heavily right now, so perhaps a reference would be helpful. For example, where is ModelAdmin located, i cannot find it anywhere in C:\Python26\Lib\site-packages\django\contrib\admin. I need that because i would like to look at how it is implemented so that i can override with confidence. I need to do that in part because of this page: http://docs.djangoproject.com/en/dev/ref/contrib/admin/#modeladmin-methods, for example, i would like to override ModelAdmin.add_view, but i can't find the original source for that. As well as i would like to see the url routing file for admin, so i can easily figure out which url corresponding to which template etc. Thanks a lot for any pointers!

• What is ExtJS philosophy? Single page application?

  I need to write my next project using ExtJs. It's a nice Javascript lib but I don't fully understand the idea behind it. Take the docs page for example: http://www.extjs.com/deploy/dev/docs/ Am I supposed to write my web applications with extjs like that? One page that should never be refreshed, and everything getting done by AJAX? How do you debug such applications if getting to the right place may take a lot of 'clicking' and working with it. You cannot fix the bug and hit refresh in the browser to see the results. Any suggestions?

  Iam new to iphone development and have been tasked to development a fairly simple iphone application. It would basically show listings of information eg accommodations, restaurants...around 8-9 different types. Drilling on one would show the details of it. These are dynamically sourced from a db (through an xml feed) that powers an existing website. Also users should have ability to save favourites and also an interactive google map showing locations of these places. Just would like to know how long would such an iphone application take to develop and what would it costs. As iam new to iphone dev, i do not know how big the scope is, any complications to anticipate, scope creep issues, and how much to charge. Want to give a reasonable estimate so that i dont overcharge.

• Styling a list as tabs with a background overflowing into content

  I couldn't think of any better way to name this question, but I'll explain. I have a mediawiki website with a background pattern (like parchment) behind the articles. At the top of each article I want to have tabs like wikipedia does (with page | talk | edit etc links). The problem is, the tabs should seamlessly fit with the article's background and I can't figure out if this is actually possible. The way I was trying to do it was positioning the list inside the actual content div and give the <li items a transparent background, but as far as I can see there's no way to color the rest of the <ul's background black without affecting the <li's in there.   I'm trying to "faux-fork" a process (an email being sent via SMTP) in my web application, and the application is built on Kohana. $command = 'test/email'; exec('php index.php '.$command.' > /dev/null/ &', $errors, $response); I'm getting an error -- Notice: Undefined index: SERVER_NAME When I look into Kohana's index.php file, I see that it is looking for a variable named SERVER_NAME, but I guess it is coming up NULL because Kohana couldn't detect this value and set it prior to run. Any ideas how to get Kohana to run via command line?

• VS.NET solution built differently on build server

  I have a VS.NET solution with two Projects, ProjectWeb and ProjectLibrary. PW depends on PL, so I have a VS.NET project reference to PL in PW. That works all well and good on my dev box, but when it all gets to the build server, I have two different build projects, one for PL and one for PW. I'd like to build PL and copy the binaries somewhere. Then, I'd like to build PW and it only, using the binaries from the previous PL build. But will that work since the PW VS.NET project is referencing a project that doesn't exist when I build PW only on the build server? How can I set this up For specifics, I am using CC.NET and NAnt, but I have other projects that use Hudson and straight MS build

• Preferred Windows Java Development Environment

  I've been a Linux Java developer for years and have loved it. I just got a new laptop which is running Windows 7. I could wipe the drive and go back to my typical Linux dev setup: vim for editing, tabbed Bash windows running javac and java for smaller projects, ant for big projects That said, I'm really thinking it couldn't hurt to learn to develop in a new environment. So, with that in mind, are there any Windows-based Java devs out there? What setup do you like to use to get things done? It'd be interesting to hear both ways to emulate my Linux-based environment as well as completely different styles that I might benefit from trying.
