  • Distinct select on Oracle

    - by funktku
    What i am trying to do is a simple recommender , must take the biggest weighted top 40 element's node2 element. Calculation for weight comes from (E.WEIGHT * K.GRADE). Now this code succesfully returns top 40 elements. However, i don't want E.NODE2 to return duplicates. POSTGRE SQL allowed me to do SELECT DISTINCT ON (NODE2) E.NODE2 , (E.WEIGHT * K.GRADE). How can i do the same in oracle? The complete sql query; SELECT * FROM (SELECT DISTINCT E.NODE2 , (E.WEIGHT * K.GRADE) FROM KUAISFAST K, EDGES E WHERE K.ID = 1 AND K.COURSE_ID = E.NODE1 AND E.NODE2 NOT IN( SELECT K2.COURSE_ID FROM KUAISFAST K2 WHERE K2.ID = 1 ) ORDER BY( E.WEIGHT * K.GRADE ) DESC) TEMP WHERE rownum <= 40

  • Hiernate's version values in Grails app

    - by xain
    Hi, looking at a database dump file, and I see many records in various tables with their version number set in values other than 0 (even 94 in one case). I understand it has to do with hibernate locking strategy, but my concern is that today is Sunday, and the site has almost no visitors so is: is this normal ? Or is there a known hibernate bug or even some programming malpractice producing this ? Thanks in advance.

  • Updating a module level shared dictionary

    - by Vishal
    Hi, A module level dictionary 'd' and is accessed by different threads/requests in a django web application. I need to update 'd' every minute with a new data and the process takes about 5 seconds. What could be best solution where I want the users to get either the old value or the new value of d and nothing in between. I can think of a solution where a temp dictionary is constructed with a new data and assigned to 'd' but not sure how this works! Appreciate your ideas. Thanks

  • has_many :through name suggestions

    - by user1084769
    I have three models, user, achievement, badge and I plan on using has_many :through instead of has_many_and_belongs_to since I will have a few extra fields in the join tables. According to a Railscast I watched, using this method requires coming up with new model names and not user_badge or user_achievement. For my User Achievement join what do you think of Accomplishment? For my User Badge join what do you think of Distinction?

  • 100k+ Records and sp_xml_preparedocument

    - by Jonn
    I've been encountering a seeming deadlock with one of my tables and the only place I can trace it back to is a stored procedure that uses sp_xml_preparedocument on a list of data. The data inserted, btw, consists of a 100k+ records on average. Is it possible that it is causing the deadlock? What other pitfalls does using sp_xml_preparedocument have?

  • oracle index for string column - does format of data affects quality of index?

    - by Jayan
    We have following type of "Unique ID" column for many tables in the database (Oracle). It is a string with following format <randomnumber>-<ascendingnumber>-<machinename> So we have some thing like this U1234-12345-NBBJD U1234-12346-NBBJD U1234-12347-NBBJD U1234-12348-NBBJD U1234-12349-NBBJD The UID value is unique, we have unique index on them. Does the following format is more efficient than above for index scans? NBBJD-U1234-12345 NBBJD-U1234-12346 NBBJD-U1234-12347 NBBJD-U1234-12348 NBBJD-U1234-12349

  • Zend Framework Multiple Table Query

    - by Jeff
    I am looking to execute this statement via Zend Framework. As I understand it, I can use Zend_Db_Select. Is it possible to use Zend_Db_Table? Three tables: classes, students, and class_students select classes.name, students.student_id, students.fname, students.lname from students, classes, class_students where class_students.student_id=students.student_id AND class_students.class_id=classes.class_id;

  • many-to-many mapping in NHibernate

    - by Chris Stewart
    I'm looking to create a many to many relationship using NHibernate. I'm not sure how to map these in the XML files. I have not created the classes yet, but they will just be basic POCOs. Tables Person personId name Competency competencyId title Person_x_Competency personId competencyId Would I essentially create a List in each POCO for the other class? Then map those somehow using the NHibernate configuration files?

  • domain name vs ip address, same server, but different speed

    - by bn
    I have two similar sites: - two of them have almost exactly the same codes, and running on the same server - both sites are the same, they just use different language. - database of the slower site is populated (maybe only the user table) the other tables for site content is the same - the faster uses root to access database one of the sites is not released yet, so it uses IP Address to access the site instead of domain name the site that is using IP address is faster (lot faster) the site that is using domain name is slower do you know why is this happening what could be the reason?

  • Insert into ... Select *, how to ignore identity?

    - by Haoest
    I have a temp table with the exact structure of a concrete table T. It was created like this: select top 0 * into #tmp from T After processing and filling in content into #tmp, I want to copy the content back to T like this: insert into T select * from #tmp This is okay as long as T doesn't have identity column, but in my case it does. Is there anyways I can ignore the auto-increment identity column from #tmp when I copy to T? My motivation is to avoid having to spell out every column name in the Insert Into list. EDIT: toggling identity_insert wouldn't work because the pkeys in #tmp may collide with those in T if rows were inserted into T outside of my script, that's if #tmp has auto-incremented the pkey to sync with T's in the first place.

  • Function which returns itself

    - by Juliet
    As a purely academic exercise (read "because I have no life"), I'm trying to write a function f which accepts another function g, executes g for its side effect, and returns itself. So I have this: let rec f g x = ignore(g x) fun y -> f g y F# complains: fun y -> f g y;; -------------^^^^^ C:\Users\Juliet\AppData\Local\Temp\stdin(8,14): error FS0001: Type mismatch. Expecting a 'a but given a 'b -> 'a The resulting type would be infinite when unifying ''a' and ''b -> 'a' If it works the way I intend, then I could write: let printer = f (printfn "%s") printer("this")("is")("so")("useless")("its")("awesome!") // prints: // this // is // so // useless // its // awesome Is it possible to write a function like this?

  • Java: Looking for hack to deal with Windows file paths in Linux

    - by Chase Seibert
    Say you have a large legacy ColdFusion on top of Java on Windows application. File access is done both via java.io.File and by CFFILE (which in turn also uses java.io.File), but not centralised in any way into a single file access library. Further, say you have file paths both hard-coded in the code, and also in a database. In other words, assume the file paths themselves cannot change. They could be either local or remote Windows file paths: c:\temp\file.txt \\server\share\file.txt Is there a way to run this application on Linux with minimal code changes? I'm looking for creative solutions that do not involve touching the legacy code. Some ideas: Run it on WINE. This actually works, because WINE will translate the local paths, and has a samba client for the remote paths. Is there a way to override java.io.File to perform the file path translation with custom code? In this case, I would translate the remote paths to a mount point.
