• Do .NET Timers Run Asynchronously?

  I have a messaging aspect of my application using Jabber-net (an XMPP library.) What I would like to do, if for some reason the connection to the Server is ended, is keep trying to connect every minute or so. If I start a Timer to wait for a period of time before the next attempt, does that timer run asynchronously and the resulting Tick event join the main thread, or would I need to start my own thread and start the timer from within there?

  I'm using Django 1.2.3 and South 0.7.3. I am trying to convert my app (named core) to use Django-South. I have a custom model/field that I'm using, named ImageWithThumbsField. It's basically just the ol' django.db.models.ImageField with some attributes such as height, weight, etc. While trying to ./manage.py convert_to_auth core I receieve South's freezing errors. I have no idea why, I'm Probably missing something...   Hi troops, how would you prevent dragging for some items of your List or DataGrid? Let's say I had a list with two items: 'Tom' and 'Jerry'. Only 'Tom' should be dragable, not 'Jerry'. Ideally I had a 'isDragEnabled(item:Object):Boolean' function, which is being queried by the drag source. My difficulties start with the fact that the 'dragStart' event handler has a null value for the dragSource, so right from the start I find it hard to find out what the drag-start is about.. Thanks in advance! PS There have been a few discussions on preventing or canceling a drop, but I haven't seen much about preventing the drag start, hence this question.

• python,running command line servers - they're not listening properly

  hello all Im attempting to start a server app (in erlang, opens ports and listens for http requests) via the command line using pexpect (or even directly using subprocess.Popen()). the app starts fine, logs (via pexpect) to the screen fine, I can interact with it as well via command line... the issue is that the servers wont listen for incoming requests. The app listens when I start it up manually, by typing commands in the command line. using subprocess/pexpect stops the app from listening somehow... when I start it manually "netstat -tlp" displays the app as listening, when I start it via python (subprocess/pexpect) netstat does not register the app... I have a feeling it has something to do with the environemnt, the way python forks things, etc. Any ideas? thank you

• Eclipse Maven web application - can not run on server anymore

  I have an maven eclipse webapp project that I was able to right click and 'Run on server' and it would deploy on tomcat. I recently did a 'maven - Update project conifgurations' and I now can NOT deploy and run the project as a webapp. Has anyone seen this before?   I am writing a web application using ring and clojure. I am using the jetty adapter for the development server and emacs/SLIME for IDE. While wrap-reload does help, run-jetty blocks my slime session and I would like to be able to start/stop it at will without having to run it in a separate terminal session. Ideally, I would like to define a server agent and functions start-server and stop-server that would start/stop the server inside the agent. Is this possible?

  Hi, I am having problem with this code.Basically I want to execute the fwrite from a timer function asyncronusly. Here is the code block in my Timer function. (This will call by the timer every 0.2 seconds. -(void)timerFunction { WriteFileOperation * operation = [WriteFileOperation writeFileWithBuffer:pFile buffer:readblePixels length:nBytes*15]; [_queue addOperation:operation]; // Here it is waiting to complete the fwrite } The WrtiteFilerOperation is an NSoperation class which it has to write the passing buffer to a file. I added this code in WriteFileOperation's "start" method.   We have a problem with analyzing our Windows crash-dumps that were created on customer Windows XP/32 boxes on our development machines. Many of our development machines are now Win7/64 boxes, but it appears that the crash-dumps generated under Windows XP cannot full resolve their binary dependency, thereby leading to warnings when displaying the call stacks in Visual Studio (2005). For example, the msvcr80.dll cannot be resolved when loaded from a Win7 machine when the dump was generated on Windows XP: On XP, the WinSxS path appears to be C:\WINDOWS\WinSxS\x86_Microsoft.VC80.CRT_1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b_8.0.50727.4053_x-ww_e6967989\msvcr80.dll -- on Win7, the WinSxS path to the same DLL version seems to be: x86_microsoft.vc80.crt_1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b_8.0.50727.4053_none_d08d7da0442a985d (I got this info from a forum thread on codeguru that link to an msdn article.) Visual Studio (2005) can now no longer correctly resolve the binaries for the crash-dump. How can I get Visual Studio to resolve all the correct binaries for my dump file? Note: I have already correctly set up the symbol server. The public symbols for most system DLLs (kernel32.dll, etc) and our symbols of our own DLLs are correctly loaded. It is just that the symbols of DLLs that reside in the WinSxS folder are not loaded, because it appears that Vista/7 uses a different path scheme for these DLLs than XP does and therefore Visual Studio cannot find the dll (not the pdb) on the local dev machine and so cannot load the corresponding symbols for the dump file.

  i try to make a login sistem in flex, and my app looks like this: i have a main.mxml. when the app loads, a function named "start" is called. it verifies if the user is logged in or not. if "true" the user is redirected to a dashboard, if "false", a component named login is loaded. my login.mxml component has 2 input boxes (user & pass) and a "Submit" button. when the button is pressed a function named "send_login" sends the user and the pass values to the server. • Android launches system settings instead of my app

  Hi, For some reason whenever I (try to) start my app the phone decides to launch system settings instead of my "main activity". And yes, I am referring to the "Android system settings", and not something from my app. This only happens on my phone, and I suppose it probably could be related to the fact that my app had just opened system settings when I decided to re-launch with a new version from Eclipse. It is possible to start the app from within Eclipse, but when I navigate back from the app it returns to the system settings rather than the home screen, as if the settings activity was started first and then my activity. If I then start the app from the phone all I get is system settings yet again. The app is listening to the VIEW-action for a specific URL substring, and when I start the app using a matching URL I get the same result as when I start it from Eclipse, app starts, but when I return I return to settings. I have tried googling for this problem, and all I could find was something about Android saving state when an app gets killed, but without any information on how to reset this state. I have tried uninstalling the app, killing system settings, rebooting the phone, reinstalling, clearing application data.. no luck..   Am trying to use something like: $newdata = preg_replace($pattern, $replacement, $data); Now my replacement is something like $pattern = "/START(.*?)END/is"; $replacement = "START $config END"; Now, $config contains contents like array('Test\\\'s Page') The problem is that after I write the content, $newdata becomes START array('Test\\'s Page') END As you see above a single \ goes missing because it gets evaluated. How do I avoid that?

Also, in my exception, is it proper to say "cannot be null", or would it be better to say "cannot be Nothing"? I sort of like the way I have it, but since this is VB, maybe I should use Nothing. But since the exception itself is called ArgumentNullException, it feels weird to make the message say "cannot be Nothing". Anyway, I guess it's pretty nitkpicky, just wondered what you folks thought.
