• I'm having a problem redeploying an applications using Drools and Tomcat 6

  I have a spring application that uses JBoss Drools 5. It works fine except for when I attempt to redeploy (i.e. hot deploy) the application after I make a change during development. It appears that tomcat keeps a lock on 2 drools jar files, drools-compiler-5.0.1.jar and drools-core-5.0.1.jar. Since they can't be deleted the new war file does not get deployed. If my application does not make any Drools logic calls, then the hot deploy works. Does anyone have any ideas?

• Allocated Private Bytes keeps going up in one computer but not the other

  OK, this may sound weird, but here goes. There are 2 computers, A (Pentium D) and B (Quad Core) with almost the same amount of RAM. If I run the same code on both computers, the allocated private bytes in A never goes down resulting in a crash later on. In B it looks like the private bytes is constantly deallocated and everything looks fine. In both computers, the working set is deallocated and allocated similarly. Could this be an issue with manifests or DLLs (system)? I'm clueless. Note: I observed the utilized memory with Process Explorer.

• Drawing rubber band line during user drag

  In my iPhone app, I would like the user to be able to "connect" two of my views by: 1) starting a drag in View A 2) as they drag towards View B, a straight line with one end in View A and the other end under at the current drag point, animates in a rubber-band fashion 3) when/if they release in View B, the line is then shown between the two views I've seen examples of dragging and dropping views, and other examples of animations, but I haven't seen one that is a simple example of this kind of user-directed animation. Any pointers towards examples or the specific docs I should be looking at would be appreciated. If this turns out to be trivial - my apologies. Although I've done quite a bit of development, I'm just getting started in the iPhone SDK and Core Graphics.

  To preface I am new to web development. I am looking at creating a core set of RESTful web services around a valuable document library of sorts (initial CRUD abilities). In doing so I am theoretically creating a perfectly re-usable and scalable back-end to be used by unanticipated applications in the future. My question centers around the best practice for doing this. My initial requirement has me also creating a unique front end. Would I make the front end and back end completely separate projects to enhance the re-usability. It would increase overhead. Looking at using GWT, Restlet, and JEE technology stack if this influences the setup at all.

I had all three working with the Makefile when they were in C, but then switched one of them to java... is there a way to compile all 3 at once with the same makefile?   We run org.eclipse.ant.core.antRunner to build our plugins and RCP projects. In the build logs we get a ton of messages like: [eclipse.buildScript] Bundle org.eclipse.X: [eclipse.buildScript] Another singleton version selected: org.eclipse.equinox.X_1.0.4.v20081112-1019 The reason is clear; There are two different versions of a particular bundle and it chose the latest. We cannot change the Eclipse installation to remove the older plugins, so what can be done to get rid of these messages? Bonusquestion: What class prints out these messages? One option could be to create our own version where these messages are never shown.

In SVN I would do a svn info to figure out what branch/tag I'm using (I realize that git has distinct definitions for branch and tag but for my purposes they are the same). • Application.Idle causes high CPU usage

  Hello, I use the Application.Idle event to handle toolbar status (enable/disable) etc. quite extensively. As I'm beta testing Norton AntiVirus 2011, it brought to my attention that my app that I'm developing triggered a high CPU usage warning on at least one CPU. Sure enough, I opened the task manager and watched one of the four CPU's (quad core system) go to near 100%. I thought Application.Idle was the way to handle things when the application wasn't performing CPU tasks. Why is Application.Idle spiking the CPU? • Cloud sync between iPad/iPhone app

  I have a Core Data app that will end up being an iPhone/iPad universal application. I would like to implement cloud syncing so that an iPhone and an iPad both running the app could share data. I'm planning to use the recently released Dropbox API. Does anyone have any thoughts on the best way to go about doing this? The Dropbox API allows for apps to store files on the cloud. What I was thinking was to original store the database (sqlite) for the app on the cloud and then download that database, but I then realized that using that method would make it painfully difficult to merge changes (rather than replacing the whole database).   Hi, I have a DB with game data (map, players, etc...) and I have a game core mechanics writen in T-SQL stored procedure. I need process game loop (via the stored procedure) every "X" seconds. I tried used the SQL Job, but when I set the interval to seconds, the SQL server stops responding. If I set the interval greater than one minute, all was ok. I need game loop precise in time, e.g. the game loop will run only once and will be executed every "X" precisely (tolerance should be less than one second). Can I do it with MS SQL Server capabilities? Or should I create a windows service which will repeatly execute game loop procedure? Or should I go another way? Thanks! EDIT: The game loop stored procedure takes less than the interval.

• malloc hangs in Linux

  I am using Linux on a 16 G with 2 quad core CPU. There are 8 processes which are doing some work (CPU intensive/network i/o). Out of which 4 have a memory leak (These are test conditions so no problem in having leaks here). Total space is occupied by all processes is around 15.4 G only 200 MB is free in system. Things are fine for some hours. But after that malloc hangs (for a process which doesn't have a memory leak). Its stuck for for more than 4 minutes (Note CPU is not 100% but io has gone up signficantly). Now there is no problem in the hanged process. (It has not corrupted the memory). What malloc is doing? (is it tryibg to defragment or builidng up swap space).I am using SUSE 10. Any pointers?

It seems that the WcfService< class is restricting the return type of a WCF method to be an enum. How can I have my service return something other than an enum? Do I need to create a custom implementation of NServiceBus.WcfService<?

  I run Selenium tests with Selenium RC from .NET (c#). In some cases, I would like to keep the test case source as HTML (to be able to modify it from Selenium IDE), but I would like to run/include these tests from my c# unit tests. Maybe it is obvious, but I can't find the API method in the Selenium Core to achieve this. Any idea how to do that? (I think the "includePartial" command in Selenium on Rails does the thing that I would need, but for c#.)
