• css: filters how to disable them for a certain class?

  On IE I'm having a bit of trouble with my CSS: body.transparent { background-color: transparent; color:#ffffff; text-shadow: 0 -1px #000, 1px 0 #000, 0 1px #000, -1px 0 #000; Filter:Glow(Color=#000000, Strength=1); } body.transparent a { text-shadow: none; filter: -;) } The glow filter needs to be excluded on body.transparent a, like the shadow is. But I just can't disable the filter for the the links. How do I do this??

• Trying to make my leaflet map work on internet explorer

  I have been tearing my hair out of late trying to get my web map working on internet explorer. It's working flawlessly on every other major browser but none of the content will load in IE. Anyone out there who's good at browser testing that could help out? I know the leaflet javascript api, which I'm using for this project, supports IE in theory. In practice this isn't working out too well... In Internet Explorer it's going through it and having no effect. I've put alerts at every line of the function and they all fire, even in IE, but the banner simply doesn't change. Is there any reason as to why this is so?

  Sorry if this is better suited at serverfault, but I think it learns more towards the programming side of things. I have some code that's going into /etc/rc.local to detect what type of touch screen monitor is plugged in and changes out the xorg.conf before launching X. Here is a small snippet: CURRENT_MONITOR=`ls /dev/usb | grep 'egalax_touch\|quanta_touch'` case $CURRENT_MONITOR in '') CURRENT_MONITOR='none' ;; esac If one of those two touch screens is plugged in, it works just fine. If any other monitor is plugged in, it stops at the "CURRENT_MONITOR=ls /dev/usb | grep 'egalax_touch\|quanta_touch'." For testing I touched two files. One before creating CURRENT_MONITOR and one after CURRENT_MONITOR and only file touched before is created. I'm not a bash programmer so this might be something very obvious.

• IE - Color transparent not working

  Hello, I have a problem with the IE (what else?): I generate content with CSS which has also a background-image. I looks like that: #nav ul li:after { content: "--"; position: relative; z-index: 99; background: transparent url(image.png); color: transparent; } The text color is in non-IE-browsers transparent, but in all IE browsers it's black and you could see it. How could I make the text transparent/unvisible? I tried already: visibility - opacity - filter - text-indent ... But none did his job right, either it disappears (with it background which I need) or the attribute doesn't apply.

  What is the best way to deal with accessing/modifying tables in a database? I have read about the Data Access Object approach, but none of the resources I have found so far indicate a clear implementation of it. So assume you have a database with a table called accounts that has columns id, name, password and email. How would you properly access it within Java? I mean most people know how to do SQL statements, but that is not really the point. I hope people here can be of help. Regards.

• Is there a Chrome extension to add mailto links to email addresses?

  Wait, wait, this is a programming question! I want to build an extension if none exists. Imagine this: you come across a webpage that says "Just send a message to [email protected]" but to actually send the email, you need to highlight the address and then cut and paste it into the recipient field of a new compose window of your email client of choice. Obviously life would be easier if it were simply a mailto: link, so you could click on it and have a new message created automatically. (Or if the page designer had used a form, perhaps ...) I was originally going to ask if there was an extension to enable similar functionality for unlinked twitter @username mentions but I thought this email address problem would be a simpler situation. If you think it would be useless, perhaps I should look at the twitter username problem instead. Thanks for your feedback.

• stop the CSS filter property cascading

  I tried to make box-shadow affect work cross browsers, in order to make ie work I used "filter" property but the effect cascades to the child element (in my case a span) I tried to stop it by using filter : none but it didn't work searched the web but I couldn't find a solution. please help me solve this problem. • Method return values and exceptions

  I have an interface called iIncident which defines a single method when(). when() should return a DateTime object. I'm trying to decide what to do if $object->when() has no DateTime to return as might be the case just after an object is instantiated and before all its properties are set. My choices are: return false throw some kind of Exception return some default DateTime like '9999-01-01' My inclination is to go with an Exception since $object really can't act as an incident until it knows when it occurred. I don't want to return a default DateTime because it complicates comparisons and it's not true. And I don't really want to return false because then I have to check for it every time I call the method- but if that is the preferred method, I guess I will. Is throwing an exception the best way? And is there a predefined exception type I should use (none of the SPL ones struck me as particularly appropriate- but that might just indicate my lack of experience)?

  I have a procedure which receive a bit variable called @FL_FINALIZADA. If it is null or false I want to restrict my select to show only the rows that contain null DT_FINALIZACAO values. Otherwise I want to show the rows containing not null DT_FINALIZACAO values. Something like this: SELECT * FROM ... WHERE ... AND (OPE.DT_FINALIZACAO = CASE WHEN (@FL_FINALIZADA <> 1) THEN NULL END OR OPE.DT_FINALIZACAO IS NOT NULL) In this case I receive the message: None of the result expressions in a CASE specification can be NULL. • How to make a form using ajax, onchange event, reload to SAME page

  I've been studying this for a while and I'm not sure if I'm going about this the right way because every form I setup according to examples, it doesn't do what I need. I need to setup a form that will: set session when you select from dropdown menu not reload/refresh page (i've read that using AJAX solves this) submit and stay on SAME page (confused because most AJAX examples send it to different process.php page which is supposedly "invisible" but it doesn't "stay" on the same page, it redirects. Basically, client selects quantity of 1 to 10. If they select "2"... it does NOT reload the page.. but it DOES set a session[quantity]=2. Should be simple... but do I POST to same page as form? or POST to different page and it somehow redirects? Also, one test I did it kept pasting my "echo session[quantity]" down the page like 7, 2, 3, 5, etc. etc. each time instead of replacing it. I would paste code but it's all over the place and I'm hoping for direction on which methods to use. Feel I need to start all over again. • XmlSerializer.Serialize doesn't save a file and doesn't throw an exception.

  Hi guys. I am having problem with saving of my object. Take a look at this code: public void SerializeToXML(String FileName) { XmlSerializer fSerializer = new XmlSerializer(typeof(Configuration)); using (Stream fStream = new FileStream(FileName, FileMode.Create, FileAccess.Write, FileShare.None)) { fSerializer.Serialize(fStream, this); } } The problem is that when the user does not have rights to the location on hard disk, this function will not throw me any exception and do not save my file. For example saving to "C:\test.xml" act like nothing happened. And I would like to know if the file has not been saved and it would be good to know the reason why. I know that I could check if the file on given location exists and throw an exception manualy but shouldn't this be done by the XmlSerializer or FileStream itself? Thanks for your time

• Silverlight 4 application on localhost runs extremely slow

  Silverlight 4 app running in IE8 and hosted on VS2010 internal webserver. The website takes atleast a minute to download the xap and code runs slow on client (IE8). I am running the app in debug mode and have turned intellitrace off. Symbol loading is also turned off. However if I kill the VS webserver, clean the solution, the app runs fast. 3 debugging sessions later, the app slows to a crawl. Have also tried turning off McAfee live scanning but no use. Looked in event log for any clue but found none. What could be the cause of the slowness? TIA rams

• Excel 2007 - Worksheet is larger than the window

  Hi This is an odd problem but frustrating none the less. I have a worksheet saved which is larger than the Excel 2007 "workarea". This means when I open the worksheet I cannot access the corners of the worksheet to reduce the size and the worksheets title bar area (with move,size,minimise etc) is hidden beneath the ribbon , even if I remove the ribbon , I still can't see the title bar. In Excel 2003 I've had a similar effect but I've always been able to hit the "alt" key to access the "Move" option. However in Excel 2007 , hitting "alt" brings up some shortcuts for the ribbon etc but I can't access the worksheet options. Has anyone else know how to access the worksheet drop down when this happens?
