  • Scp only a specific folder

    Some command line syntax I don't know how to set, am a noob sometimes, sorry is that's obvious Let's says I have the following path for all my assets : /var/www/site/system/images/{image_id}/{format}/{file}.{extension} Inside the {image_id} folder, I have multiple formats (original, medium, thumb, etc...). I only want to import the /var/www/site/system/images/{image_id}/original folder, and keep the structure locally scp -r username@server:/var/www/site/system/images/*/original ~/Site/site/system/images This one does get it all, but all the files end up in the same and unique folder, no structure. I'd like to keep the structure. Is there something to do for it ?

  • Where do dsrm, dsadd and dsmove come from?

    I am writing a script to join a machine to the domain after it has been imaged. (Don't want to do it in Sysprep.) On the machine I am writing the script on (a battered, world weary IT workhorse with all sorts of crud on it) my script works fine. However on one of my shiny new test machines, it doesn't find dsrm and dsadd. I can only assume I have inadvertently installed this on my machine in the past. I want these to be used just for the purpose of joining the machines to the domain, so don't want any full blown admin-ware installed. Where do I get / turn on dsrm etc?

  • Can SQL Server (2008) transaction logs handle the database being dropped and re-created?

    We're trying to restore a database (created programatically by running a hand-crafted SQL script we have). Our backup routine is to create a full backup of every database on the SQL Server 2008 instance on a Saturday then automatic transaction logs (I assume these are created automatically anyway - we appear to have lots of log files, possibly one per transaction after the full backup was taken?). On Tuesday this week the database in question was dropped and another one with the exact same name and schema was created. SQL Server has continued to create transaction log files but it hasn't had chance to create a new full backup (that won't happen until next Saturday). Now as it turns out we need to restore the database to how it was on Thursday. This is after the "drop and re-create". My question is, is this possible? If it isn't, what exactly does SQL Server think that it's writing to those transaction logs created since the drop and re-create? (I understood they were kind of files containing a binary delta, which makes me think maybe we can restore from them?) I'm no DBA but then neither is our IT department, so I'm doing the best I can to resolve this. Any advice much appreciated!

  • How to install software packages on a Mac? (MacPorts, Fink, anything better?)

    On my Mac OS X machine, how would you recommend I install command line software and other packages? I've been using MacPorts and it always seems quite slow, presumably because it has to compile the packages on-the-fly. I'd much prefer a package management system that has binary packages, saving me the need to compile things every time I want to download something new. I think Fink has binaries for some of the packages, but I usually see MacPorts recommended as the system to use. Which do you think works better and why? (Or is there another system that I haven't heard of?)

  • Smarter, Faster, Cheaper: The Insurance Industry’s Dream

    On June 3rd, I saw the Gaylord Resort Centre in Washington D.C. become the hub of C level executives and managers of insurance carriers for the IASA 2013 Conference.  Insurance Accounting/Regulation and Technology sessions took the focus, but there were plenty of tertiary sessions for career development, which complemented the overall strong networking side of the conference.  As an exhibitor, Oracle, along with several hundred other product providers, welcomed the opportunity to display and demonstrate our solutions and we were encouraged by hustle and bustle of the exhibition floor.  The IASA organizers had pre-arranged fast track tours whereby interested conference delegates could sign up for a series of like-themed presentations from Vendors, giving them a level of 'Speed Dating' introductions to possible solutions and services.  Oracle participated in a number of these, which were very well subscribed.  Clearly, the conference had a strong business focus; however, attendees saw technology as a key enabler to get their processes done smarter, faster and cheaper.  As we navigated through the exhibition, it became clear from the inquiries that came to us that insurance carriers are gravitating to a number of focus areas: Navigating the maze of upcoming regulatory reporting changes. For US carriers with European holdings, Solvency II carries a myriad of rules and reporting requirements. Alignment across the globe of the Own Risk and Solvency Assessment (ORSA) processes brings to the fore the National Insurance of Insurance commissioners' (NAIC) recent guidance manual publication. Doing more with less and to certainly expect more from technology for less dollars. The overall cost of IT, in particular hardware, has dropped in real terms (though the appetite for more has risen: more CPU, more RAM, more storage), but software has seen less change. Clearly, customers expect either to pay less or get a lot more from their software solutions for the same buck. Doing things smarter – A recognition that with the advance of technology to stand still no longer means you are technically going backwards. Technology and, in particular technology interactions with human business processes, has undergone incredible change over the past 5 years. Consumer usage (iPhones, etc.) has been at the forefront, but now at the Enterprise level ever more effective technology exploitation is beginning to take place. That data and, in particular gleaning knowledge from data, is refining and improving business processes.  Organizations are now consuming more data than ever before, and it is set to grow exponentially for some time to come.  Amassing large volumes of data is one thing, but effectively analyzing that data is another.  It is the results of such analysis that leads to improvements both in terms of insurance product offerings and the processes to support them. Regulatory Compliance, damned if you do and damned if you don’t! Clearly, around the globe at lot is changing from a regulatory perspective and it is evident that in terms of regulatory requirements, whilst there is a greater convergence across jurisdictions bringing uniformity, there is also a lot of work to be done in the next 5 years. Just like the big data, hidden behind effective regulatory compliance there often lies golden nuggets that can give competitive advantages. From Oracle's perspective, our Rating Engine, Billing, Document Management and Insurance Analytics solutions on display served to strike up good conversations and, as is always the case at conferences, it was a great opportunity to meet and speak with existing Oracle customers that we might not have otherwise caught up with for a while. Fortunately, I was able to catch up on a few sessions at the close of the Exhibition.  The speaker quality was high and the audience asked challenging, but pertinent, questions.  During Dr. Jackie Freiberg’s keynote “Bye Bye Business as Usual,” the author discussed 8 strategies to help leaders create a culture where teams consistently deliver innovative ideas by disrupting the status quo.  The very first strategy: Get wired for innovation.  Freiberg admitted that folks in the insurance and financial services industry understand and know innovation is important, but oftentimes they are slow adopters.  Today, technology and innovation go hand in hand. In speaking to delegates during and after the conference, a high degree of satisfaction could be measured from their positive comments of speaker sessions and the exhibitors.   • Best tutorial ever! Is there one just like it for XHTML and CSS...?

    I have been learning Ruby on Rails using www.railstutorial.org, and I LOVE it! My only problem? Well, I can build the applications just fine, but my knowledge of designing the skin (CSS) of the application is limited. Is there a really good XHTML and CSS which is very similar to the Ruby on Rails Tutorial by Michael Hartl? If not, perhaps you can point me towards some of the best? Thanks, Joshua Collins P.S.   • Security Issues When Creating Pages in SharePoint

    I was speaking (or rather IM'ing) with Ben Collins a while back and he came across an interesting problem that I wanted to document for the sake of posterity.  If you have a SharePoint user who has permissions to create a page in a page library, but that user is having security issues trying to actually make a page, then it the security issue may be related to their access rights on the master page gallery.  Users who create pages must have at least restricted read access to the master page gallery for page creation to succeed. That is one of the joys of working in SharePoint. if something doesn't show up there is usually a good but obscure reason for it, but SharePoint certainly won't tell you outright why it is.  All I have to say is that I'm glad he ran into that issue and not me.

I have 2 tables Members and Managers Members has: memberID, Name, Address Managers has: memberID, EditRights, DeleteRights EditRights and DeleteRights are of type bit. Mangers have a relationship with Members, because they are members themselves. I want to select all members id's, name and adress and for the members that are managers show if they have editrights and/or deleterights. SO: Exmaple data Members: ID, Name, Address 1, tom, 2 flat 2, dan, 3 flat 3, ben, 4 flat 4, bob, 6 flat 5, sam, 9 flat Managers: ID, Editrights, deleterights 2, 0, 1 4, 1, 1 5, 0, 0 I would like to display a select like this: 1, tom, 2 flat, no rights 2, dan, 3 flat, Delete 3, ben, 4 flat, no rights 4, bob, 6 flat, Edit&Delete 5, sam, 9 flat, no rights Any help would be great

Louis Davidson, Jessica M. Moss: Pro SQL Server 2012 Relational Database Design and Implementation – the best SQL Server focused data modeling book I know by two of my friends. Dejan Sarka, et al.: MCITP Self-Paced Training Kit (Exam 70-441): Designing Database Solutions by Using Microsoft® SQL Server™ 2005 – SQL Server 2005 data modeling training kit. Most of the text is still valid for SQL Server 2008, 2008 R2, 2012 and 2014.
