  • Microsoft IME + Japanese: Force Hiragana input by default?

    I am using Windows XP SP3 and Windows 7. On both machines, I cannot make Hiragana the default input method. Is there a way to do this? In the IME tool bar, there is the option to set the "Input Mode." This is always defaulted to "Direct Input." I would like to default to Hirgana or Katakana. I have found the setting dialog for this, by right clicking on the IME toolbar - settings - Japanese IME Standard - Properties - Default Input Mode. This setting seems to have no effect, no matter the combination of selections in the dialogs. Is there a way to reliably set the default Input Mode?

  • Applying a function to an arbitrarily long list of arguments

    I want to create a function apply that takes a function with an arbitrary amount of arguments as well as a list of integers, and returns the result of the function (Where each integer in the list is an argument in order. I was thinking something like: apply :: ([Int] -> Int) -> [Int] -> Int apply f x:xs = apply (f x) xs apply f [] = f But I know this won't work because the type signature is wrong - the function doesn't take a list of ints, it just takes some amount of int arguments. Additionally, when I get to the base case the f argument to apply should actually be an integer, violating the type signature anyway. Does anyone know how to deal with this sort of problem?

    Occasionally , we have to write methods that receive many many arguments , for example : public void doSomething(Object objA , Object objectB ,Date date1 ,Date date2 ,String str1 ,String str2 ) { } When I encounter this kind of problem , I often encapsulate arguments into a map. Map<Object,Object> params = new HashMap<Object,Object>(); params.put("objA",ObjA) ; ...... public void doSomething(Map<Object,Object> params) { // extracting params Object objA = (Object)params.get("objA"); ...... } This is not a good practice , encapsulate params into a map is totally a waste of efficiency. The good thing is , the clean signature , easy to add other params with fewest modification . what's the best practice for this kind of problem ?

  • Debian: Firefox or Iceweasel default printer for POS station

    Context Using Debian 6.04 "Squeeze" as POS station. There are two printers installed: Network printer and a receipt printer It absolutely must be able to print by default to the receipt printer on a certain website though the system default is a network printer. In Debian ...it doesn't. Problem I've set up XP, 7, Ubuntu and even Mac OSX this way, so I'm no stranger to setting Firefox up this way ...same Iceweasel/Firefox settings ...complete fail. Always uses system default no matter what the settings, or, which printer you print from. To get this to work on other systems you do this: Print a page in Firefox using desired printer. Ensure print.save_settings is true. Firefox remembers last printer used Set print.always_print_silent = true The end. This works on every OS I've set up ....except Firefox and Iceweasel in Debian. My only recourse seems to be to set the receipt printer as default or go back to bloaty Ubuntu/Mint ...etc.

A typical child specification is as follows: {my_server, {my_server, start_link, [123]}, permanent, 5000, worker, [my_server]} No problems so far.   • Windows authenticated users have lost access to master (default) database

    Something very strange has occurred on our production SQL database. Users connecting via Windows authentication appear to have lost all access to the master database. By default, all logins have the default database set to master. So when you connect using SQL Server management studio, they get the error: "Cannot open user default database. Login failed error 4064". What's also worrying is that we have a group called "COMPANY - SQL Administrator" which has sysadmin rights and users in this group also get the same error. Worse, they don't appear to be system administrators anymore... If they change their default database to something else, they can connect and then work on the database, it's just the master database that is problematic. I'm not even sure by what mechanism windows authenticated users get access to the master database. Is it something hard coded in or some property that's got changed? Any ideas? Cheers, Rob.

As they are defined as "const char *", I can not change them using "strcpy", "memcpy", ... Also, you know, I can not just change their type from "const char *" to "char *".   • How to set default permissions for automounted FAT drives in Ubuntu

    I've got many FAT32 drives that I'd like to mount in Ubuntu such that they have permission mode 700 for directories and 600 for all other files. By default, they have 755 for all files, which is not particularly useful since almost no non-directories should be executable, and it screws up version control repos hosted on the drives. "Back in the day" I would have had the drives listed in /etc/fstab with the umask/dmask I want and there was no such thing as a default. These days, drives automount under their volume names. Which is great, except now I have no idea how to set the default. I have tried changing the /system/storage/default_options/vfat/mount_options gconf key with no apparently effect. It was 077 initially but the mounted drive reflected a default of 022; changing it and re-inserting the drives resulted in the files still having permission bits of 755.

    I've got multiple named vhosts on an Apache web server (CentOS 5, Apache 2.2.3). Each vhost has their own config file in /etc/httpd/vhosts.d and these vhost config files are included from the main httpd conf with... Include vhosts.d/*.conf Here's an example of one of the vhost confs... NameVirtualHost *:80 <VirtualHost *:80> ServerName www.domain.biz ServerAlias domain.biz www.domain.biz DocumentRoot /var/www/www.domain.biz <Directory /var/www/www.domain.biz> Options +FollowSymLinks Order Allow,Deny Allow from all </Directory> CustomLog /var/log/httpd/www.domain.biz_access.log combined ErrorLog /var/log/httpd/www.domain.biz_error.log </VirtualHost> Now I when anyone tries to access the server directly by using the public IP address, they get the first vhost specified in the aggregated config (so in my case it's alphabetical order from the vhosts.d directory). Anyone accessing the server directly by IP address, I'd like them to just get an 403 or a 404. I've discovered several ways to set a default/catch-all vhost and some conflicting opinions. I could create a new vhost conf in vhosts.d called 000aaadefault.conf or something but that feels a bit nasty. I could have a <VirtualHost> block in my main httpd.conf before the vhosts.d directory is included. I could just specify a DocumentRoot in my main httpd.conf What about specifying a default vhost in httpd.conf with _default_ http://httpd.apache.org/docs/2.2/vhosts/examples.html#default Would having a <VirtualHost _default_:*> block in my httpd.conf before I Include vhosts.d/*.conf be the best way for a catch-all?

  • Changing the default boot option without losing the boot menu

    I've had a working multi-boot setup with the Windows boot loader, containing menu items for two Windows 7 systems, and one for Grub. Grub in turn contains multiple menu items, but I think that's not relevant here. I've upgraded one system to Windows 8. When I now set a different system as the default, I lose the boot menu, and I lose the possibility of booting into the other systems. I've set Windows 7 as the default, rebooted, and get Windows 7, but I don't get to choose which system to boot into. I can run its own bcdedit to change the default back to Windows 8, and another reboot shows the boot menu again, but how can I avoid defaulting to Windows 8? Here are my current boot settings, is there anything that is misconfigured? Is there a menu option or a downloadable skin that is the default Bento skin? Or do I have to re-install to get this 'new default' skin?

  • Advanced Chrome/ Chromium won't set as the default browser

    I've downloaded Advanced Chrome (http://browser.taokaizen.com/) and am now using it instead of Chrome. Each time I open the browser, it keeps asking me if I would like to set it as the default browser, which I do. When the browser is reopened, it asks me again. I've looked at Settings and tried to click the 'make Chromium my default browser' button, but it doesn't appear to register my wish to make it the default browser - nothing happens! Any ideas?

Sometimes the Default User profile (C:\Documents and Settings\Default User) gets filled with tempoary internet files, so when a new user logs in, he gets a 1GB profile (instead of 20MB) that fills up the server fast. Why is it the default user profile gets filled up with files like that, by who and how do i prevent this?

    Hi, I have around 70 shapes in a planning document i use for work, everything is fine but i am trying to add a new feature. These shapes are changed using edit points each week to show up on a map, but sometimes shape "A" may not get used in which i just want to turn it back to a default size along with all the other shapes. Does anyone know how i could achieve this via a Macro, i have tried lots of things and searched everywhere but i am at my wits end...     I am able to access only the Default Web Site on a Windows 2008 R2 Server which is running IIS 7.5 The Default Web Site's binding is to "All Unassigned", same way as I have done it on a different machine running IIS6 under Windows 2003 Server. The bindings of the desired Web Site have the IP address of the server and the correct home directory. Regardless what I do, the only page content I can see is the default index page in the wwwroot directory which is the Default Web Site. What must I do to deliver the correct content from the Web Sites that are configured in IIS7.5?

    I have apache version 2.2 and php 5.3.15 on a single server. I configured virtual hosting and a default vhost. 0_default_.conf - goes to /var/www/default sub.domain.com.conf - goes to /var/www/sub.domain.com My question is, how could I set the default documentroot to sub.domain.com permanently? That means all request should be redirected to sub.domain.com. I try to remove 0_default_.conf but when viewing the page it display the php source code of sub.domain.com. Here is my configurations -- http://pastebin.com/4e3awUJ4 Although I can create index.php to /var/www/default and permanently redirect to sub.domain.com site but it's not viable solution for me because what if I didn't point the ip address of sub.domain.com to the server so user cannot view that subdomain.   • Moving Function With Arguments To RequireJS

    I'm not only relatively new to JavaScript but also to RequireJS (coming from string C# background). Currently on my web page I have a number of JavaScript functions. Each one takes two arguments. Imagine that they look like this: functionA(x1, y1) { ... } functionB(x2, y2) { ... } functionC(x3, y3) { ... } Currently, these functions exist in a tag on my HTML page and I simply call each as needed. My functions have dependencies on KnockoutJS, jQuery, and some other JS libraries. I currently have Script tags that synchronously load those external .js dependencies. But I want to use RequireJS so that they're loaded asynchronously, as needed. To do this, I plan to move all three functions above into an external .js file (a type of AMD "module") called MyFunctions.js. That file will have a define() call (to RequireJS's define function) that will look something like this: define(["knockout", "jquery", ...], function("ko","jquery", ...) {???} ); My question is how to "wrap" my functionA, functionB, and functionC functions where the ??? is above so that I can use those functions on my page as needed. For example, in the onclick event handler for a button on my HTML page, I would want to call functionA and pass two it two arguments; same for functionB and functionC. I don't fully understand how to expose those functions when they're wrapped in a define that itself is located in an external .js file. I know that define assures that my listed libraries are loaded asynchronously before the callback function is called, but after that's done I don't understand how the web page's script tags would use my functions. Would I need to use require to ensure they're available, such as: require(["myfunctions"],function({not sure what to put here})] I think I understand the basics of RequireJS but I don't understand how to wrap my functions so that they're in external .js files, don't pollute the global namespace, and yet can still be called from the main page so that arguments can be passed to them. I imagine they're are many ways to do this but in reviewing the RequireJS docs and some videos out there, I can't say I understand how... Thank you for any help.

  • Apache resolves all URLs to default

    I am using Apache 2.2 on a Debian-based distro. For some reason, all URLs are directed to the default index. No error or anything. That means: example.domain.com goes to domain.com. "example" can be just anything. In the default Vhost file (/etc/apache2/sites-available/default) I've added: ServerName: www.domain.com But it still keeps that odd behaviour. Please let me know how to enable the common, default behaviour. I haven't changed anything by the way, this is since installation. Update: Following SvW's answer, I am looking for a way to force Apache not to accept any URL, only those specified as VirtualHosts.

    Hi, I need some help with a python service. I have a service written in Python. What I need to do is to pass it some arguments. Let me give you an example to explain it a bit better. Lets say I have a service, that does nothing but writes something to a log. I'd like to write the same thing into the log several times, so I use a loop. I would like to pass the counter for the loop when I start the service, but I have no idea how. I start the service with: win32serviceutil.HandleCommandLine(WinService) I'm looking for something like win32serviceutil.HandleCommandLine(WinService,10) I don't really care how its done, as long as I can pass arguments to it. Have been trying to get this to work for the better part of the day with no luck. Also, the service isn't run directly, but is imported and then run from there.

    When thinking in a functional mindset, given that functions are supposed to be pure, one can conclude any function with no arguments is basically just a value. However, reallity gets in the way, and with different inputs, I might not need a certain function, and if that function is computationally expensive, I'd like to not evaluate it if it's not needed. I found a workaround, using let func _ = ... and calling it with func 1 or whatever, but that feels very non-idiomatic and confusing to the reader. This boils down to one question: In F#, Is there a proper way to declare a function with zero arguments, without having it evaluated on declaration?
