  I cant get wake on lan to work for my built in network adapter. Its a ASUS M5A97 motherboard, and the network adapter is a Realtek PCIe GBE. I have Shutdown WakeOnLan - Enabled Wake on Magic Packet - Enabled Wake on Pattern Match - Enabled WOL & Shutdown Link Speed - 10 Mbps First I have set up a magic packet client to listen, and the packet is getting through. I have also checked these in Power Management for the network adapter. Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power Allow this device to wake the computer Allow a magic packet to wake the computer.

• Cannot disable spotlight indexing on volume

  I have a FAT32 partition on my HDD. When using OSX, it is mounted to /Volumes/MEDIA. After a recent upgrade to Mavericks, spotlight is having trouble indexing it, eating up almost all of my system resources, and I cannot get the indexing to stop: [jay-mba-osx ~]% sudo mdutil -v -a -i off /: Indexing disabled. • Laptop Function Key Dysfunctional

  My laptop has Windows Vista installed in it. Everytime, I switch on the computer, the function key seems to be enabled automatically. So, when I press i, 5 is displayed and so on and so forth. Now, I have checked and ensured that Function is key is not locked due to a faulty keyboard or coke spilling on it and suchlike. I am able to get out of it with the following key combination Fn + Ctrl + Ins (Num Lk) However, the next time I switch on my PC, the Function key is automatically enabled. Also, if my computer goes to sleep mode and comes back, it is enabled again. Anything that I can do to change this behaviour?

• Again WPA Connection problem even after changed to latest version ..please help

  I am using hostapd, wireless tools with madwifi for my wireless ap in my board. The WEP, WPA-PSK connections and communications between my board with linux and my desktop PC, Windows XP SP2 (with Olitec USB wireless) are fine. But when I configured the WPA type, the connection seems established but shows the status "TKIP - Key Absent" in the security dialog box. Anyone faced this problem? Am attaching the conf files and the connection status. In the AP side am complaining . • How can I get 32-bit Direct3D working on my 64-bit Windows 7 system?

  I recently upgraded a Dell Inspiron 6400 to Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit. I have a 32-bit 3D application that refuses to run, giving an error of "Failed to initialise [sic] Direct3D device". The dxdiag tool tells me: DirectDraw Acceleration: Enabled Direct3D Acceleration: Not Available However, the 64-bit version of dxdiag tells me: DirectDraw Acceleration: Enabled Direct3D: Enabled I have installed and re-installed the latest graphics drivers, as well as the DirectX 9 redistributable, but it stills fails in the same way. dxdiag reports the chipset name as the "Mobile Intel(R) 945 Express Chipset Family" with the the Chip Type as "Intel(R) GMA 950". The main driver is igdumd64.dll, version 8.15.10.1930. How can I get 32-bit Direct3D working?

I can get a basic integration to hiera working yumrepo { hiera('yumrepo::name') : metadata_expire => hiera('yumrepo::metadata_expire'), descr => hiera('yumrepo::descr'), gpgcheck => hiera('yumrepo::gpgcheck'), http_caching => hiera('yumrepo::http_caching'), baseurl => hiera('yumrepo::baseurl'), enabled => hiera('yumrepo::enabled'), } If I try to remove that definition and instead go for hiera_include('classes'), here's what I've got in the corresponding yaml backend classes: - "yumrepo" yumrepo::metadata_expire: 0 yumrepo::descr: "custom repository" yumrepo::gpgcheck: 0 yumrepo::http_caching: none yumrepo::baseurl: "http://myserver/custom-repo/$basearch" yumrepo::enabled: 1 I get this error on an agent Error 400 on SERVER: Could not find class yumrepo I guess you can't get away from some sort of minimal node declaration w/ hiera and resource types? • Configuring IIS 7.5 to be FIPS 140.2 compliant

  I need to configure IIS 7.5 (Server 2008 R2) to be FIPS 140.2 compliant. Specifically, this involves disabling all SSL protocols other than TLS 1.0. I have set the following registry keys: HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\SecurityProviders\SCHANNEL\Protocols\SSL 2.0\Server HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\SecurityProviders\SCHANNEL\Protocols\SSL 3.0\Server HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\SecurityProviders\SCHANNEL\Protocols\PCT 1.0\Server to Enabled(DWORD) = 0 as per this KB, but SSL Labs' checker says "SSL 2.0+ Upgrade Support" is enabled. (Everything other than that and TLS 1.0 is not available, so we're getting somewhere). It also says "FIPS ready - no" - presumably because SSL 2.0+ Upgrade Support is still enabled. serversniff.net says SSL 2.0 is turned off, and doesn't say anything about SSL 2.0+ Upgrade Support. Could this be an anomaly with SSL Labs' checker?

• Ubuntu 10.04 not detecting multiple monitors

  I have 2 graphics cards, the output from the lspci: 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc RV770 [Radeon HD 4850] 02:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc RV710 [Radeon HD 4350] I have one monitor connected to the 4850 and 2 connected to the 4350. However when I go into System Preferences Monitors the only monitor shown is the one connected to the 4850. Is there something I need to enable for it to be able to use the other card? How do I get this to work. Thanks. • Intel cpu hyperthreading on or off for ibm db2?

  Has anyone ever done any database performance comparisons with hyper-threading enabled vs disabled? We are running ibm db2 and I'm curious if anyone has an recommendations for enabling hyper-threading or not. With hyper-threading enabled it makes it quite difficult to do capacity planning for cpu usage. For example. "With 8 physical cores represented as 16 "threads" on the OS and a cpu-bound workload, does that mean when your cpu usage hit's 50% you are actually running at 100%." What real benefits do I gain with leaving hyper-threading enabled on an intel server running DB2? Does hyper-threading help if you're workload is truly disk IO bound? If so, up to what percentage? These are the types of questions I'm trying to answer. Any thoughts?

EDIT: LDAP modules are loaded, the problem is not with them being missing. # ls /etc/apache2/mods-enabled/*ldap* /etc/apache2/mods-enabled/authnz_ldap.load /etc/apache2/mods-enabled/ldap.load EDIT2: Solved it by changing funky Require ldap-group cn=CHANGED, cn=CHANGED line with Require valid-user Since AuthzLDAPAuthoritative is on, no other auth methods will be used and valid-user requirement will auth via LDAP. (right? :/)

  HI, I've created volumes in equallogic in PS 6000 XV(having 2 member which is in 1 pool), checked & those volumes can be easily detected my ISCSI software in windows. But the problem with ESX , not able to see the assigned disk on ESX server, I can explain what I've done: 1.Created Cluster with enabled HA & DRS 2.Added 3 ESX4 HOST 3.Added VMkernel & configured in all 3 ESX4, enabled vmotion & FT on the same adapter. 4.went to iSCSI storage adapter properties, enabled iSCSI 5.Trying to discover the available storage with the controller IP on dynamic discovery, but not able to see the assigned storage Note: the same volume is accessed to windows that means there is no issue from storage , am I right ???? • Picking up a lot of failed authentications for various accounts

  My server is getting a lot of various failed authentication attempts for various accounts. The most common one (that I've seen ) or the root account. I have since enabled Fail2Ban and ran several rootkit / malware checks to ensure I wasn't compromised. Is there anything else I should do? I only have three accounts enabled, and SSH access for only two. I have a full 48hr ban on anyone making more then six failed SSH login attempts. I do not have FTP enabled.

• SCCM for mobile device management returns 404 on /devicemgmt/server.resource

  We have a new Windows Server 2008 R2 machine onto which we have installed SCCM SP2 followed by the R2 package. We have enabled a mobile device management point and enabled distribution points to support mobile devices as per http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb680634.aspx We have also installed the Mobile Device Management Client on to a Windows Mobile 6.1 device. The client on the device fails to connect to the server. Our investigation so far has led us to the URL /devicemgmt/server.resource. However, looking in IIS on the server shows no such URL (in fact nothing apart from the aspnet_client directory) and visiting the URL with a browser returns 404. WebDav is enabled on the Default Web Site in IIS. BITS is installed on the server. Can anyone confirm whether enabling mobile device management will add visible directories to IIS and if so why it might be failing in our case?

• Remove Sync Center icon

  I accidentally marked a shared folder as "Available Offline" in Windows Explorer on Windows 8.1 computer. This seems to have "woken up" the Sync Center and caused the Sync Center icon to be displayed in the system notification area. Even though I've undid that by marking the folder as not available offline, and furthermore have reset CSC and disabled Offline Files, the Sync Center icon still appears in the overflow section of the system notification area. How do I remove the Sync Center icon and preferably disable the process that is displaying it? Debugging info: The registry shows that stuff is enabled, even though the Sync Center and Offline Files dialog don't indicate that anything is active. • Why does OS X automatically logout my user?

  I have a new MacBook Air set up with filevault. In the Security preference pane I have "Require password 1 hour after sleep or screen saver begins" enabled, but the "Logout after 60 minutes of inactivity" is disabled. When I leave the computer on overnight I manually lock the screen (from the Keychain status menu bar, which I enabled via the Keychain Access preferences). Alas, in the morning I find that instead of a locked screen I see the login window, after my user was logged out with all applications terminated... (e.g. Firefox thinks it previously crashed when I launch it). This type of behavior only started after I enabled Filevault. Why is this happening? How do I prevent such auto-logout?

  After removing the following executables from starting up, in the near future they reappear again: DDMService.exe: Re-enabled when visiting a DivX video online. DivXUpdate.exe: Re-enabled when visiting a DivX video online. GoogleUpdate.exe: Re-enabled task, I think by Google Chrome? I see no auto-update option. iPodService.exe: Re-enables after starting iTunes. iTunesHelper.exe: Re-enables after starting iTunes, useless on SSDs. Reader_sl.exe: Re-enables when updating Adobe Reader, useless on SSDs. It bores me that these processes keep popping back up, while my software functions well without them. I'm smart enough to update the software weekly through FileHippo so I don't need automatic updates. What can I do to never see these processes again? Even after reinstallation of those applications... A general solution is also welcome! :-)

• Touchpad not working after login in Ubuntu

  At some point my touchpad stopped working on Lenovo x220 under Ubuntu 11.10, after login. I have found two possible solutions for that online, but neither of them work. First, gconftool-2 --set --type boolean /desktop/gnome/peripherals/touchpad/touchpad_enabled true and a second one, xinput set-int-prop "SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad" "Synaptics Off" 8 0 After looking more carefully into xinput I have realized that xinput list-props "SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad" outputs: Device Enabled (132): 0 This field seems to be stuck to zero, because trying to set it back to 1 by: xinput set-int-prop "SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad" "Device Enabled" 8 1 doesn't seem to have any effect, e.g. I still have: Device Enabled (132): 0 Any ideas? • Windows 7 System Image Restore to SSD - SSD not detected?

  I recently bought a new SSD (OCZ Vertex 2 120GB) as a replacement for my laptop HDD . I created a System Image on an external drive using the Win 7 backup and restore tool and then restored this image to the SSD using the Win 7 disk. AHCI is enabled in Win 7 and the BIOS, but it seems that windows is not detecting the disk as an SSD because, in the defragger, the disk is still available for defragging. Prefetch and Superfetch were also still enabled. I have manually disabled scheduled defragging, prefetch and superfetch. I have also checked that TRIM is enabled using: fsutil behavior query DisableDeleteNotify and the result is '0' (it is). Performance seems ok, but not quite as fast as I expected. Was restoring from a win7 generated system image a mistake? Am I getting optimal SSD performance?

  I'm a developer of internal software in our company, I've gotten used to UAC in Win7, I prefer to run with in enabled so that our software works correctly with it enabled. Sysadmins have recently pushed out GPO that turns it off every time we log-in. (So I turn it back on every time I log in.) I can imagine some people are annoyed by it and turn it off, but is that really a good company-wide decision? anyone annoyed by it (local admins) would already have permission to turn it of themselves.. right? On the other hand we don't have to worry creating UAC friendly software if no workstations or servers have it enabled. Is there a good reason for doing this? Other than reducing help-desk calls from recent XP users? I can't see the upside of this decision, help me understand.

So 1. how can i makesure that all the created VM will be in paravirtualized mode even with VT enabled? I have heard that in Full Virtualization hypervisor needs to work hard for emulating all the underlying hardware,which may reduce performance for too much i/o specific applications when compared to para mode. 2.Since i am running only Linux VMs do i really need to enable VT support? 3.Can i be able to run Linux VM in para mode with VT enabled? 4.Will simply turning on VT support changes virtualization from para to full virtualization?? 5.Will there be any performance improvement for VM running Linux OS if VT is enabled?

• MSSQL 2012 Error 26 and remote connection

  I'm trying to set up MSSQL 2012 for a school project and I need to be able to connect to it remotely as my teammates will also be working on it. I did a clean install of SQL Server 2012 Express. Knowing I can't connect remotely straight off, I tweaked the settings that needed tweaking according to the internet. What I did 1.Made sure remote connections were allowed 2.Enabled TCP/IP 3.Removed 0s from Dynamic ports and set 1433 in TCP Port 4.Enabled Named Pipes 5.Created Outbound and Inbound traffic rules in the firewall for TCP port 1433 and UDP port 1434 6.Port forwarded 1433 to my "server" and 1434 too 7.made sure I was pingable 8.SQL Server authentication is enabled 9.I have restarted my computer so that changes to the config are saved So whenever I try to connect using management studio on another computer than the server using myusername.dyndns.org\SQLEXPRESS I get error 26 I have been searching for different solutions for 3 hours with no luck.

• Flex/PHP/XML data issue

  I have built a simple application in Flex. When the application loads, a GET request is made to the xmlService.php file with parameters "fetchData=letters". This tells the PHP to return the XML code. In Flex Debug I can see the XML data being sent by the PHP to the flex client. What I need it to do is populate the first drop down box (id="letter") with this data, however nothing is being received by Flex. I added an Alert.show() to check what was being returned but when the application runs, the alert is blank. Can anyone help? Thanks in advance.
