They always say that one of the most important advantages of Macs is that no viruses are written/coded for them. What is the reason behind it? Is it so difficult or impossible to code a virus on Mac?
I'm looking for a regular expression based search/replace GUI tool that is able to handle multiple files/subdirectories, something like grepWin but for Mac OS X.
PS. I'm aware of grep and I don't need an editor, just a standalone tool.
I have an external hard drive with its own power. When I touch the usb cable against the case of my Mac I get little sparks.
I have tried it on a PC but don't seem to get the same sparks
Why might this be?
Today Mac OS X kernel panicked twice on me.
The first time, I got this log.
The second time, I got this log.
A few minutes ago, iTunes started sounding blocky, after quitting FireFox everything went back to normal, I am currently using Opera.
These are my system's specs.
EDIT: I ran the apple hardware test and got these results.

What FREE software (included with Mac OS X, or public domain) would be a good, simple way to take some existing PNG clipart files and do some simple editing?
I really only need to do 3 things:
Rotate the image.
Clip the image.
Set a "transparent" color.
I don't need anything that takes weeks to learn or is super-powerful or super expensive.
Two part question:
I am having a difficulty regarding receiving my mail. I have 3 Gmail accounts & 1 Yahoo account. In Windows, I use Microsoft Outlook or Outlook Express. What email client can I use on my Mac?
The second part is that my system administrator has banned accessing Gmail and Yahoo mail via their websites. Is it possible to still access it anyway?
I just used Onyx to clean out my caches and log files after which I did a reboot. Browsing the "All Messages" panel of the Console app I noticed this line:
10/27/13 3:38:03.000 PM kernel: 5.106.198.19
Since I did not recognize that IP I did a whois and to my surprise found out that it points to Eurolan Solutions in Romania.
So my question is why is my Mac 10.7.5 contacting Romania and how can I stop this from happening?
Many thanks

hi,
I've installed gcc 4.0 on mac from Xtools dmg.
If I go to the directory /usr/bin and I call ./gcc-4.0 it works.
I would like to make it work from any directory by just typing "gcc".
How can I make it ?
thanks
I'm using mail from Mac OS terminal to send the results of a database query to me via email. Most of the time it works, but sometimes there is a long delay before the mail arrives (often when another similar script is run). It looks like there is some kind of send queue, but I can't find any docs mentioning this. Is there something I need to do to flush mail from the terminal?
I installed gcc 4.0 on Mac OS X Leopard. I linked gcc-4.0 to gcc.
Then I ran gcc to compile a library but I got the following error:
configure: error: C compiler cannot create executables
In order to create some special routes for debugging I used the following command on my linux server:
sudo route add -net 10.78.0.0 netmask 255.255.0.0 gw 10.101.1.1
which works, and sets up the routes I need. But when I run the same command on my Mac I get:
route: bad address: netmask
I'm guessing that the version of route that is included in OS X requires a different format but I'm at a loss to figure it out.
Hi,
is there something similar to Altiris (now Symatec) Software Virtualization Suite for Mac OS X?
Or just a possibility to "revert" ALL changes a app/installer made to the filesystem?
Thanks
I'm coming from a PC, loaded with a Core 2 Quad CPU and 8GB of DDR2 RAM. I was running Premiere CS3.
I'm new to Mac so I'm not sure if this will help performance: Will increasing my 21.5" Core 2 Duo iMac's memory from 4GB (DDR3) to 8GB improve performance of Premiere CS4 significantly? I am not impressed with Premiere as it is now. The iMac is the newest one as of this post.
A Mac Zoom utility which magnifies a selectable portion of the screen and can be minimized.
If it cannot be minimized then the zoomed portion of the screen should be set as it is, so that i can do other work and switch back to it
I have a Linksys WRT54G/GL/GS that I am running DD-WRT v24-sp2 (10/10/09) vpn - build 13064 on it and for the life of me I can not find a way to assign ip's based on Mac address. Basically I have a few laptops and Windows really has no decent way to have separate profiles for each network.
I have defined my own custom vim file type with highlighting etc. I would like to open it using the terminal based vim when I double click on it. I am using mac os x. Any pointers on how to start on this?
Using screen on Mac OS X, I want to know how to go to the beginning/end of the line.
Usually I use ^ + A / ^ + E on terminal , but that doesn't work for screen.
I'm doing some research on old kernels and running the following on 2.6.7 or 2.6.8 gives a resource busy error. But on 2.6.28 the command works as expected. How would I determine which kernel allowed this command to change the mac address on the fly? ip link set dev addr
You can see some screenshots below. Thank you!
I ran across a situation at work the other day where we were trying to move a pile of .url files on a Windows XP machine to bookmarks under Firefox on Mac OS X 10.5.8. It proved very frustrating, as we didn't have access to the source machine anymore (where we could have exported the bookmarks properly).
Does anyone have a solution for that one?
