• jquery nodename returning undefined

  This code isn't for anything in particular. I'm just trying to successfully get the tagName or nodeName of an element. However, when I run the following code, I always get an alert saying "undefined". I'm wondering if it's because this function executes when the document is ready? Is there a different place I should be doing this? • Pre-generating GUIDs for use in python?

  I have a python program that needs to generate several guids and hand them back with some other data to a client over the network. It may be hit with a lot of requests in a short time period and I would like the latency to be as low as reasonably possible. Ideally, rather than generating new guids on the fly as the client waits for a response, I would rather be bulk-generating a list of guids in the background that is continually replenished so that I always have pre-generated ones ready to hand out. I am using the uuid module in python on linux. I understand that this is using the uuidd daemon to get uuids. Does uuidd already take care of pre-genreating uuids so that it always has some ready? From the documentation it appears that it does not. Is there some setting in python or with uuidd to get it to do this automatically? Is there a more elegant approach then manually creating a background thread in my program that maintains a list of uuids?

• jQuery in Opera User JS Doesn't Work

  Hello ::- ). I'm playing with some Opera User JS. I included "1jquery.min.js" in my User JS folder (1 in front because Opera loads them alphabetically). Unfortunately, it doesn't appear to be working. window.onload = OnWindowLoad; $(document).ready(function() { alert ($('#area_19')); }); function OnWindowLoad () { alert ($('#area_19')); alert(document.getElementById("area_19")); } What's interesting about this code is that the first two alerts come back in NULL, but the last one does find the object! So the element definitely exists in the page, but my jQuery seems unable to get it. What's even stranger is that the jQuery "ready" function works, indicating that I do have jQuery capability. I'm quite puzzled about all this ::- /. Hopefully somebody can give me a clue ::- ).

  I want to create an app that contains a Service S and an Activity A. The Service S is responsible for preprocessing, such as preparing the data shown on the UI of the Activity A, before the Activity A gets invoked. I want to be able to invoke the Service S from outside the package, say from another Android app's Activity class B, do the preprocessing, and then when the data is ready, invoke Activity A. My questions are: What is the best way to share data between the Service S and Activity A? How can the external activity B communicate with the Service S to determine if it has completed with all its preprocessing, and the Activity A is ready to be invoked? Thanks Chris

• Can mouseenter be made to not fire in IE on DOMready?

  jQuery emulates IE's mouseenter event on non-IE browsers. In IE, however, mouseenter is being triggered when the page loads (maybe due to jQuery's use of doScroll in the $.ready implementation), even if the mouse is not moved at all. This doesn't happen in other browsers and definitely doesn't follow Microsoft's own spec, which says (emphasis mine): The event fires only if the mouse pointer is outside the boundaries of the object and the user moves the mouse pointer inside the boundaries of the object. If the mouse pointer is currently inside the boundaries of the object, for the event to fire, the user must move the mouse pointer outside the boundaries of the object and then back inside the boundaries of the object. This only becomes an issue of usability if hover (or the hoverIntent plugin) is applied to a navigational item to display a drop down or "mega-menu": In IE, mouseenter will fire immediately after $.ready, obscuring the content with the menu. I've put together a demonstration of both the mouseenter inconsistency and the usability issue it creates.

  I read Apple is allowing developers to submit iPad apps for the great opening of the ipad store, but I cannot find anything in my account that says that or allows sending the apps. Another thing is: in order for an app to be accepted you have to sign it with your own certificate but to do that you have to select the device on Xcode. As far as I know, Xcode do not signs with certificates applications that run on the simulator. Beyond that, any try to build a distribution package on Xcode shows messages like "you should disable armv6", and others. So, I ask. Is this news true? If yes, how to I manage to have the app ready for iPad and ready for submission? thanks.

• Why is the event object different coming from jquery bind vs. addEventListener

  Why is it when I use the jQuery bind the event object I get back is different from the event object I get back using addEventListener? The event object resulting from this jQuery bind does not have the targetTouches array (among other things) but the event from the addEventListener does.   Hi, i've created a script that works with the Dom so it has to wait until the Dom is ready before execute every operation. I want that this script can be included in two ways: In the head tag so that it is loaded before the Dom is ready. I've used document.addEventListener("DOMContentLoaded",function(){...},false) for this and it works well Loaded dinamically when the Dom is already loaded. In this case the script doesn't work because for some reasons if the Dom is already loaded the DOMContentLoaded event isn't fired So i want to know, is there a way to check if the Dom is already loaded so that the script can execute the code without using the DOMContentLoaded event?

This works, but the problem I have is that, for longer pages, the page is briefly visible with the wrong styles before the javascript kicks in and transforms the page. However, that code will not give any output and just keeps waiting in the tun.stdout. When I kill the newtunnel process externally, it flushes all the data to tun.stdout. So it seems that I can't get any data from the tun.stdout while it is still running. Why is that? How can I get the information? Note that the default bufsize for Popen is 0 (unbuffered). I can also specify bufsize=0 but that doesn't change anything.

  I am working on expansion of my jQuery plug-in authoring knowledge, just playing around with my own ideas for learning benefits. So i was wondering how you guys tackle the need of plugin executing without any user specific input. So I have a need for plug-in that executes right away after document is ready, without any user's specific input just as long as doc is loaded, so the only way I see how to execute plug-in on it's own is to attach handler to ready listener that executes my function which I extended the jQuery with. And because this needs to be self enclosed, part of the code, I attach handler to event listener within the function. So how else could one tackle this? Any take at this is appreciated.   On Ubuntu 9.10 using PVM 3.4.5-12 (the PVM package when you use apt-get) The program terminates after adding a host. laptop> pvm pvm> add bowtie-slave add bowtie-slave terminated laptop> Current Configuration only $PVM_RSH = bin/usr/ssh I can ssh perfectly fine into the slave without a password, and run commands on it.
