  • Ruby on Rails: Best way to save search queries in a database

    For a RoR app I'm helping develop, I need to save all search queries in a database so I can analyze them later. My plan right now is to create a Result model and table, and just save each search query's text in that table, along with a user's ID, the time, etc. However, the app has about 15,000 users, so I'm afraid the single table approach won't be super efficient when it comes time to parse that data. (The database is setup via MySQL, if that factors in at all.) Am I just being paranoid? Is there a Ruby gem that handles this sort of thing, or a better approach I could take? Any input would be appreciated.

  • How do you preserve the updated_at date field when saving the the database in Symfony?

    This has to be simple... I'm trying to preserve the current date that is already stored in an updated_at field in the DB. I'm updating a single field value in the same row and then saving but I don't want it to update the updated_at field. I want to preserve the existing updated_at value. I only want to do this in one, maybe two situations so I don't need to overwrite the model for every other action in the program. I've tried this: $originalDate = $this->getUpdatedAt(); $this->setUpdatedAt($originalDate); $this->save(); This seems like it should work but still it seems to update the field.

    Im doing a questionare (form) and i need to put a button submit that do two things : 1) Be a button type INPUT ( because I need to use this kind of button on my php code, I've if(@$_POST['Next']) for save the dates of the form in my DB). 2) That this button will have a link for go to the next screen of the questionare. I tried with a href="demo2.html" target="_blank"><input class="buttonNext" name="submit" type="submit" value="NEXT &#8592" ></a This code don't works but with IE browser on the page page appears a circle next to my button that are the link. So the button don't works, only save the data, but don't link to the next page. How can I solve it ?

    I found this wonderful NSManagedObjectID. This would be very good for referencing an Entity/NSManagedObject/NSEntityDescription, right? Let's get an ID from an entity: NSEntityDescription *entity = [self newEntity]; NSManagedObjectID *objID = [entity objectID]; So... any idea how to get this objID into a string? Or better: NSData. Actually something to be able to save it to the NSUserDefaults. ;-) Btw: NSFetchRequest doesn't want to work in my case. I use an modified version of this example: answer of an old question.

    I want to extract a substring matching a pattern and save it to a file. An example string: Apr 12 19:24:17 PC_NMG kernel: sd 11:0:0:0: [sdf] Attached SCSI removable disk I want to extract the part between the brackets, in this case []. I tried to do something like grep -e '[$subtext]' to save the text in the brackets to a variable. Of course it doesn't work, but I am looking for a way similar to this. It would be very elegant to include a variable in a regex like this. What can I do best? Thanks!

  • Save Values AUTOMATICALLY with NSUserDefaults

    I have an app with two UITextFields, where the user enters an integer, and then a method is called with the values the user enters. But when I completely close the app, the values are deleted. I want to change it to save the value the user entered when it closes, and loads it up when the app is re-opened. I tried this with NSUserDefault, and it worked fine (with save and load button), but I want it to make it automatically, without pressing any buttons. I saw some other people do it with the basic methods in the AppDelegate.m, but I don't know anything about that, therefore I didn't understand it at all. I saw MANY tutorials online, but I didn't understand any of them, please help, and give a detailed answer, thanks :)

    SOLVED! I`m trying save data from array in variable. I have in controller: $data = array('upload_data' => $this->upload->data()); and I know that in this array are data about uploading file. One with this date is "file_name", and I want to save this value in controller at variable. I try with: $image_name= $data['file_name']; But this not working. I use CodeIginter 2.1.3 framework. Good solution is: $data['upload_data']['file_name']; Thanks for help!

I want this to happen using javascript and ajax like effect. I know how to access the dropdownlist inside gridview using javascript and I can get the new selectd item. But how can I save it to database without server side code? I know one way of doing this is using web services. I just want to know if there is/are any other ways to do it.

    I have to run an image processing algorithm on numerous images in a directory. An image is saved as name_typeX.tif, so there are X different type of images for a given name. The image processing algorithm takes an input image and outputs an image result. I need to save this result as name_typeX_number.tif, where 'number' is also an output from the algorithm for a given image. Now.. How do I tell MATLAB to open a specific 'typeX' file? Also note that there are other non-tif files in the same directory. How to save the result as name_typeX_number.tif? The results have to be saved in the same directory where the input images are present. How do I tell MATLAB NOT to treat the results that have been saved as an input images? I have to run this as background code on a server... so no user inputs allowed Thanks

    Hi, How can I save a stretched image? I have a small(50 X 50) image, that I have stretched while displaying it on a UIImageView (by choosing scaletofit mode.) Now I need to fetch & save that stretched image. I have tried by using UIImageView's image property, but it gives me original image not that stretched image.   • jQuery: script remember values between times it is triggered?

    Hello there, I am writing an ajax script in jQuery. The script gets new or previous page from a php documents that returns HTML. If, located on page 1, I click next, the script IS able to find the next page number (page2), but when I click it AGAIN, the script again has to be able to find the next page number (page3) and at the minute it doesnt. I was wondering how I can save a variable between time a script is triggered, so that I can just + 1 to each time somebody clicks "next", and -1 when somebody clicks "previous".     Man, I am still not able to save a picture when I send an intent asking for a photo to be taken. Here's what I am doing: Make a URI representing the pathname android.content.Context c = getApplicationContext(); String fname = c.getFilesDir().getAbsolutePath()+"/parked.jpg"; java.io.File file = new java.io.File( fname ); Uri fileUri = Uri.fromFile(file); Create the Intent (don't forget the pkg name!) and start the activity private static int TAKE_PICTURE = 22; Intent intent = new Intent(android.provider.MediaStore.ACTION_IMAGE_CAPTURE ); intent.putExtra("com.droidstogo.boom1." + MediaStore.EXTRA_OUTPUT, fileUri); startActivityForResult( intent, TAKE_PICTURE ); The camera activity starts, and I can take a picture, and approve it. My onActivityResult() then gets called. But my file doesn't get written. The URI is: file:///data/data/com.droidstogo.boom1/files/parked.jpg I can create thumbnail OK (by not putting the extra into the Intent), and can write that file OK, and later read it back). Can anyone see what simple mistake I am making? Nothing obvious shows up in the logcat - the camera is clearly taking the picture. Thanks, Peter

With zbuffer or painters renderer I've got very large and slowly opened file (over 4 Mb) - all points are in vector format. Using OpenGL renderer rasterize the figure in PDF, ok for the plot, but not good for text labels. The file size is about 150 Kb. Try this simplified code, for example: x=linspace(1,10,100000); y=sin(x)+randn(size(x)); plot(x,y,'.') set(gcf,'Renderer','zbuffer') print -dpdf -r300 testpdf_zb set(gcf,'Renderer','painters') print -dpdf -r300 testpdf_pa set(gcf,'Renderer','opengl') print -dpdf -r300 testpdf_op The actual figure is much more complex with several axes and different types of plots. Is there a way to rasterize the figure, but keep text labels as vectors? Another problem with OpenGL is that is does not work in terminal mode (-nosplash -nodesktop) under Mac OSX. Looks like OpenGL is not supported. I have to use terminal mode for automation. The MATLAB version I run is 2007b. Mac OSX server 10.4.

It may be corrupt or a file format that Preview does not recognize. But when i download PDF files, they open without any problem. Can someone help me? P.s. i tried different headers including : header('Content-Type: application/octet-stream');

  • windows xp mode for windows 7 - save text input language settings

    When I change the 'default language' in 'text services and input languages' in windows xp mode from EN-US to DE-DE the settings are reverted with the next logoff / reboot - EN-US is the default language again. Is there a way around this behaviour? I'm using the default 'XPMUser' in windows xp mode. I also checked 'turn off advanced text services' and disabled the language bar and windows xp remembers these settings - just not the default language..
