  • Using Rx to synchronize asynchronous events

    - by Martin Liversage
I want to put Reactive Extensions for .NET (Rx) to good use and would like to get some input on doing some basic tasks. To illustrate what I'm trying to do I have a contrived example where I have an external component with asyncronous events: class Component { public void BeginStart() { ... } public event EventHandler Started; } The component is started by calling BeginStart(). This method returns immediately, and later, when the component has completed startup, the Started event fires. I want to create a synchronous start method by wrapping the component and wait until the Started event is fired. This is what I've come up with so far: class ComponentWrapper { readonly Component component = new Component(); void StartComponent() { var componentStarted = Observable.FromEvent<EventArgs>(this.component, "Started"); using (var startedEvent = new ManualResetEvent(false)) using (componentStarted.Take(1).Subscribe(e => { startedEvent.Set(); })) { this.componenet.BeginStart(); startedEvent.WaitOne(); } } } I would like to get rid of the ManualResetEvent, and I expect that Rx has a solution. But how?

  • Vbscript - Compare and copy files from folder if newer than destination files

    - by Kenny Bones
Hi, I'm trying to design this script that's supposed to be used as a part of a logon script for alot of users. And this script is basically supposed to take a source folder and destination folder as basically just make sure that the destination folder has the exact same content as the source folder. But only copy if the datemodified stamp of the source file is newer than the destination file. I have been thinking out this basic pseudo code, just trying to make sure this is valid and solid basically. Dim strSourceFolder, strDestFolder strSourceFolder = "C:\Users\User\SourceFolder\" strDestFolder = "C:\Users\User\DestFolder\" For each file in StrSourceFolder ReplaceIfNewer (file, strDestFolder) Next Sub ReplaceIfNewer (SourceFile, DestFolder) Dim DateModifiedSourceFile, DateModifiedDestFile DateModifiedSourceFile = SourceFile.DateModified() DateModifiedDestFile = DestFolder & "\" & SourceFile.DateModified() If DateModifiedSourceFile < DateModifiedDestFile Copy SourceFile to SourceFolder End if End Sub Would this work? I'm not quite sure how it can be done, but I could probably spend all day figuring it out. But the people here are generally so amazingly smart that with your help it would take alot less time :)

  • How can I read pcap files in a friendly format?

  • Is there a distributed VCS that can manage large files?

    - by joelhardi
Is there a distributed version control system (git, bazaar, mercurial, darcs etc.) that can handle files larger than available RAM? I need to be able to commit large binary files (i.e. datasets, source video/images, archives), but I don't need to be able to diff them, just be able to commit and then update when the file changes. I last looked at this about a year ago, and none of the obvious candidates allowed this, since they're all designed to diff in memory for speed. That left me with a VCS for managing code and something else ("asset management" software or just rsync and scripts) for large files, which is pretty ugly when the directory structures of the two overlap.

  • How to create a jEdit "New View" that not synchronize with the old window

    - by user2898598
Hi I just noticed that if you creating a new view on jEdit, when you editing the new one, it affected the text on the original window's text as well, how could I create a New view that allow the user to duplicate data for the current shown view only and not effecting the old ones? I try to find solutions on the source code, then I find seems there are setting that related to this: http://www.jedit.org/users-guide/buffersets.html but I didn't find the selection mentioned on my setting.

  • Dreamweaver creating temp php files instead of working direct from the local test server files

    - by Dan382
Trying to get MAMP running with Dreamweaver. When I preview a php file inside Dreamweavers 'Live View' mode instead of working direct from my file: http://localhost/php_test/timetest.php it creates its own temp file which looks like: http:// 127.0.0.1/php_test/ TMPWY5ZEM.php (I've added the additional spaces as stockoverflow assumed I was spamming) I know the localhost runs correctly as if I type the URL directly into a browser it runs fine. I've set up the Dreamweaver site correctly to the best of my knowledge, the details are below: Local site folder: /Applications/MAMP/htdocs/php_test Server Folder: /Applications/MAMP/htdocs/php_test Web URL: http://localhost/php_test/ Testing Server: PHP MySQL Any help?

  • How to synchronize cuda threads when they are in the same loop and we need to synchronize them to ex

    - by Vickey
    Hi all, I have written a code and Now I want to implement this on cuda GPU but I'm new to synchronization so please help me with this, It's little urgent to me. Below I'm presenting the code and I want to that LOOP1 to be executed by all threads (heance I want to this portion to take advantage of cuda and the remaining portion (the portion other from the LOOP1) is to be executed by only a single thread. do{ point_set = master_Q[(*num_mas) - 1].q; List* temp = point_set; List* pa = point_set; if(master_Q[num_mas[0] - 1].max) max_level = (int) (ceilf(il2 * log(master_Q[num_mas[0] - 1].max))); *num_mas = (*num_mas) - 1; while(point_set){ List* insert_ele = temp; while(temp){ insert_ele = temp; if((insert_ele->dist[insert_ele->dist_index-1] <= pow(2, max_level-1)) || (top_level == max_level)){ if(point_set == temp){ point_set = temp->next; pa = temp->next; } else{ pa->next = temp->next; } temp = NULL; List* new_point_set = point_set; float maximum_dist = 0; if(parent->p_index != insert_ele->point_index){ List* tmp = new_point_set; float *b = &(data[(insert_ele->point_index)*point_len]); **LOOP 1:** while(tmp){ float *c = &(data[(tmp->point_index)*point_len]); float sum = 0.; for(int j = 0; j < point_len; j+=2){ float d1 = b[j] - c[j]; float d2 = b[j+1] - c[j+1]; d1 *= d1; d2 *= d2; sum = sum + d1 + d2; } tmp->dist[tmp->dist_index] = sqrt(sum); if(maximum_dist < tmp->dist[tmp->dist_index]) maximum_dist = tmp->dist[tmp->dist_index]; tmp->dist_index = tmp->dist_index+1; tmp = tmp->next; } max_distance = maximum_dist; } while(new_point_set || insert_ele){ List* far, *par, *tmp, *tmp_new; far = NULL; tmp = new_point_set; tmp_new = NULL; float level_dist = pow(2, max_level-1); float maxdist = 0, maxp = 0; while(tmp){ if(tmp->dist[(tmp->dist_index)-1] > level_dist){ if(maxdist < tmp->dist[tmp->dist_index-1]) maxdist = tmp->dist[tmp->dist_index-1]; if(tmp == new_point_set){ new_point_set = tmp->next; par = tmp->next; } else{ par->next = tmp->next; } if(far == NULL){ far = tmp; tmp_new = far; } else{ tmp_new->next = tmp; tmp_new = tmp; } if(parent->p_index != insert_ele->point_index) tmp->dist_index = tmp->dist_index - 1; tmp = tmp->next; tmp_new->next = NULL; } else{ par = tmp; if(maxp < tmp->dist[(tmp->dist_index)-1]) maxp = tmp->dist[(tmp->dist_index)-1]; tmp = tmp->next; } } if(0 == maxp){ tmp = new_point_set; aloc_mem[*tree_index].p_index = insert_ele->point_index; aloc_mem[*tree_index].no_child = 0; aloc_mem[*tree_index].level = max_level--; parent->children_index[parent->no_child++] = *tree_index; parent = &(aloc_mem[*tree_index]); tree_index[0] = tree_index[0]+1; while(tmp){ aloc_mem[*tree_index].p_index = tmp->point_index; aloc_mem[(*tree_index)].no_child = 0; aloc_mem[(*tree_index)].level = master_Q[(*cur_count_Q)-1].level; parent->children_index[parent->no_child] = *tree_index; parent->no_child = parent->no_child + 1; (*tree_index)++; tmp = tmp->next; } cur_count_Q[0] = cur_count_Q[0]-1; new_point_set = NULL; } master_Q[*num_mas].q = far; master_Q[*num_mas].parent = parent; master_Q[*num_mas].valid = true; master_Q[*num_mas].max = maxdist; master_Q[*num_mas].level = max_level; num_mas[0] = num_mas[0]+1; if(0 != maxp){ aloc_mem[*tree_index].p_index = insert_ele->point_index; aloc_mem[*tree_index].no_child = 0; aloc_mem[*tree_index].level = max_level; parent->children_index[parent->no_child++] = *tree_index; parent = &(aloc_mem[*tree_index]); tree_index[0] = tree_index[0]+1; if(maxp){ int new_level = ((int) (ceilf(il2 * log(maxp)))) +1; if (new_level < (max_level-1)) max_level = new_level; else max_level--; } else max_level--; } if( 0 == maxp ) insert_ele = NULL; } } else{ if(NULL == temp->next){ master_Q[*num_mas].q = point_set; master_Q[*num_mas].parent = parent; master_Q[*num_mas].valid = true; master_Q[*num_mas].level = max_level; num_mas[0] = num_mas[0]+1; } pa = temp; temp = temp->next; } } if((*num_mas) > 1){ List *temp2 = master_Q[(*num_mas)-1].q; while(temp2){ List* temp3 = master_Q[(*num_mas)-2].q; master_Q[(*num_mas)-2].q = temp2; if((master_Q[(*num_mas)-1].parent)->p_index != (master_Q[(*num_mas)-2].parent)->p_index){ temp2->dist_index = temp2->dist_index - 1; } temp2 = temp2->next; master_Q[(*num_mas)-2].q->next = temp3; } num_mas[0] = num_mas[0]-1; } point_set = master_Q[(*num_mas)-1].q; temp = point_set; pa = point_set; parent = master_Q[(*num_mas)-1].parent; max_level = master_Q[(*num_mas)-1].level; if(master_Q[(*num_mas)-1].max) if( max_level > ((int) (ceilf(il2 * log(master_Q[(*num_mas)-1].max)))) +1) max_level = ((int) (ceilf(il2 * log(master_Q[(*num_mas)-1].max)))) +1; num_mas[0] = num_mas[0]-1; } }while(*num_mas > 0);

  • How to synchronize threads in python?

    - by Eric
I have two threads in python (2.7). I start them at the beginning of my program. While they execute, my program reaches the end and exits, killing both of my threads before waiting for resolution. I'm trying to figure out how to wait for both threads to finish before exiting. def connect_cam(ip, execute_lock): try: conn = TelnetConnection.TelnetClient(ip) execute_lock.acquire() ExecuteUpdate(conn, ip) execute_lock.release() except ValueError: pass execute_lock = thread.allocate_lock() thread.start_new_thread(connect_cam, ( headset_ip, execute_lock ) ) thread.start_new_thread(connect_cam, ( handcam_ip, execute_lock ) ) In .NET I would use something like WaitAll() but I haven't found the equivalent in python. In my scenario, TelnetClient is a long operation which may result in a failure after a timeout.

  • Where do I put the links to my Javascript/jQuery files in my html file?

    - by Qlidnaque
I recently noticed that some (not all) of my javascript and jQuery scripts wouldn't work unless I put the link for the .js files nearer towards the bottom of the page instead of the head area where I put my links for my .css files. From what I understand, javascript can go in either places and it is recommended to not be put in the header as it slows down the page loading process as well. At the same time, if I put it in the body tag of the html file, it looks somewhat messy and was wondering what the best practice is for putting .js files in a cleanly place. Should I always put it at the very bottom right before the ending body tag? How do professional web developers handle this?

I naively tried passing list() and c() to the grep but, as you can imagine, it doesn't work. list.of.files <- list.files() list.of.files <- list.of.files[grep(list("1_", ".grd"), list.of.files)]

  • How to synchronize static method in java.

    - by Summer_More_More_Tea
Hi there: I come up with this question when implementing singleton pattern in Java. Even though the example listed blow is not my real code, yet very similar to the original one. public class ConnectionFactory{ private static ConnectionFactory instance; public static synchronized ConnectionFactory getInstance(){ if( instance == null ){ instance = new ConnectionFactory(); } return instance; } private ConnectionFactory(){ // private constructor implementation } } Because I'm not quite sure about the behavior of a static synchronized method, I get some suggestion from google -- do not have (or as less as possible) multiple static synchronized methods in the same class. I guess when implementing static synchronized method, a lock belongs to Class object is used so that multiple static synchronized methods may degrade performance of the system. Am I right? or JVM use other mechanism to implement static synchronized method? What's the best practice if I have to implement multiple static synchronized methods in a class? Thank you all! Kind regards!

  • Sharing DefaultHttpClient in Android. To synchronize or not to synchronize?

    - by johnrock
In an Android app, I am using one static instance of org.apache.http.impl.client.DefaultHttpClient and sharing that instance in all activities and services of the app, so that this client may be used to log in once to a remote server and all subsequent user requests to that remote server will remain authenticated. Every activity or Service that makes a GET or POST to this remote server calls the same method : MyUtilityClass.gettHttpClient() Do I need to worry about synchronization of this httpclient? If so, what is the best way to handle this?

  • synchronize threads - no UI

    - by UshaP
I'm trying to write multithreading code and facing some synchronization questions. I know there are lots of posts here but I couldn't find anything that fits. I have a System.Timers.Timer that elapsed every 30 seconds it goes to the db and checks if there are any new jobs. If he finds one, he executes the job on the current thread (timer open new thread for every elapsed). While the job is running I need to notify the main thread (where the timer is) about the progress. Notes: I don't have UI so I can't do beginInvoke (or use background thread) as I usually do in winforms. I thought to implement ISynchronizeInvoke on my main class but that looks a little bit overkill (maybe I'm wrong here). I have an event in my job class and the main class register to it and I invoke the event whenever I need but I'm worrying it might cause blocking. Each job can take up to 20 minutes. I can have up to 20 jobs running concurrently. My question is: What is the right way to notify my main thread about any progress in my job thread? Thanks for any help.

  • How to synchronize two DataBase Schemas Oracle 10G?

    - by gnash-85
Hi Masters, Good Day, I am new and very naive to Oracle DB. I am using Oracle 10G. Let me explain to you. I have one source database named ( DB1) and Target Database named (DB2). I have 2 schema's named dbs1 and dbs2 in the source database (DB1). I have exported both the database schemas in Source Database (DB1) and imported it successfully into the Target Database (DB2). Now I face a challenge in synchronizing these database schemas every time from Source DB (DB1) to Target DB (DB2). Can anyone please help in letting me know how can achieve this synchronization? It would a great help. Thanks Nash

  • How should I synchronize lists in WCF?

    - by mafutrct
I've got a WCF service that offers multiple lists of items of different types. The lists can be changed on the server. Every change has to be published to all clients to make sure every client has an up-to-date copy of each server list. Currently I'm using this strategy: On login, every client receives the current status of every list. On every change, the added or removed item is sent to all clients. The drawback is that I have to create a callback for every list, since the items are of different types. Is there a pattern I could apply? Or do I really have to duplicate code for each of the lists?

  • Synchronize write to two collections

    - by glaz666
I need to put some value to maps if it is not there yet. The key-value (if set) should always be in two collections (that is put should happen in two maps atomically). I have tried to implement this as follows: private final ConcurrentMap<String, Object> map1 = new ConcurrentHashMap<String, Object>(); private final ConcurrentMap<String, Object> map2 = new ConcurrentHashMap<String, Object>(); public Object putIfAbsent(String key) { Object retval = map1.get(key); if (retval == null) { synchronized (map1) { retval = map1.get(key); if (retval == null) { Object value = new Object(); //or get it somewhere synchronized (map2) { map1.put(key, value); map2.put(key, new Object()); } retval = value; } } } return retval; } public void doSomething(String key) { Object obj1 = map1.get(key); Object obj2 = map2.get(key); //do smth } Will that work fine in all cases? Thanks

  • Synchronize JTextFields Values by PropertyChangeListener

    - by gt_ebuddy
I want to copy the value of a jTextField - TXTFLD1 to another jTextField -TXTFLD2 when the value at TXTFLD1 changes. I choose propertychangelistener because i cannot detect when the value at TXTFLD1 is changed, Because it is changed by some external code which i cannot modify now. The test code is as follows : public class TxtFldSync extends JFrame { private JButton BTN1 = null; private JTextField TXTFLD1 = null; private JTextField TXTFLD2 = null; public static void main(String[] args) { TxtFldSync thisClass = new TxtFldSync(); thisClass.setDefaultCloseOperation(JFrame.EXIT_ON_CLOSE); thisClass.setVisible(true); } public TxtFldSync() { super(); this.setSize(300, 200); BTN1 = new JButton(); BTN1.setBounds(new Rectangle(178, 38, 67, 17)); TXTFLD1 = new JTextField(); TXTFLD1.setBounds(new Rectangle(32, 42, 83, 20)); TXTFLD2 = new JTextField(); TXTFLD2.setBounds(new Rectangle(30, 78, 83, 20)); //listeners TXTFLD1.addPropertyChangeListener("value", new PropertyChangeListener() { @Override public void propertyChange(PropertyChangeEvent arg0) { TXTFLD2.setText(TXTFLD1.getText()+"set by change listener"); //this doesnot work why ? } }); BTN1.addActionListener( new ActionListener() { @Override public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent arg0) { TXTFLD1.setText("Action Performed"); //i what to set same value to TXTFLD2 using property change listener } }); this.setContentPane(new Container()); this.getContentPane().add(BTN1); this.getContentPane().add(TXTFLD1); this.getContentPane().add(TXTFLD2); } } Why the property change listener is not working. What are the other alternatives solution for this problem?

  • How to synchronize access to many objects

    - by vividos
I have a thread pool with some threads (e.g. as many as number of cores) that work on many objects, say thousands of objects. Normally I would give each object a mutex to protect access to its internals, lock it when I'm doing work, then release it. When two threads would try to access the same object, one of the threads has to wait. Now I want to save some resources and be scalable, as there may be thousands of objects, and still only a hand full of threads. I'm thinking about a class design where the thread has some sort of mutex or lock object, and assigns the lock to the object when the object should be accessed. This would save resources, as I only have as much lock objects as I have threads. Now comes the programming part, where I want to transfer this design into code, but don't know quite where to start. I'm programming in C++ and want to use Boost classes where possible, but self written classes that handle these special requirements are ok. How would I implement this? My first idea was to have a boost::mutex object per thread, and each object has a boost::shared_ptr that initially is unset (or NULL). Now when I want to access the object, I lock it by creating a scoped_lock object and assign it to the shared_ptr. When the shared_ptr is already set, I wait on the present lock. This idea sounds like a heap full of race conditions, so I sort of abandoned it. Is there another way to accomplish this design? A completely different way?

  • How to insert large files in mysql database using php? [closed]

    - by anjan
Hi! I want to upload a large file of size 10M max to my mysql database. Using .htaccess i changed the PHP's own file upload limit to "10485760" = 10M, i am able to upload files upto 10M size without any problem. But i can not insert the file in database if it is more that 1M in size. i am using file_get_contents to read all file data and pass it to the insert query as a string to be inserted into a LONGBLOB field. But files with more than 1M size is not being added to database, though i can use print_r($_FILES) to examine that the file uploaded correctly. Any help will be appreciated and i will need it within next 6 hours. So, please help! best regards, Anjan * This is a duplicate of http://stackoverflow.com/questions/492549/how-can-i-insert-large-files-in-mysql-db-using-php *
