  • Android MediaPlayer ignores it's internal volume when the system volume changes

    Hi, here is my situation: I have a media player playing music in an Android application. I've found that with certain headphones, the volume is much too loud even when the volume is set to it's lowest setting. As a result, I want to change the volume of the music for all volume levels to be 10% of what it normally is (actually, this value is user-defined of course). The following works perfectly: mediaPlayer.setVolume(0.1f, 0.1f); The volume of the music is now at a good level for listening. However, if the user now changes the volume using the volume rocker (thus changing the music stream volume), the media player changes the volume as expected, but it also seems to reset the 'setVolume' parameters to 1.0, causing a massive volume change. Setting the volume back to 0.1 sets the volume to how it should be (which is 10% of the current music stream volume). To quote the Android docs for the MediaPlayer.setVolume method: This API is recommended for balancing the output of audio streams within an application How can you do this if it gets reset to 1.0 each time the system volume changes?     I have a good idea about Agile development process but it seems it does not fit well with a embedded project with significant hardware changes. I will describe below what we are currently doing (Ad-hoc way, no defined process yet). The changes are divided into three categories and different processes are used for each of them: complete hardware change example : use a different video codec IP a) Study the new IP b) RTL/FPGA simulation c) Implement the legacy interface - go to b) d) Wait until hardware (tape out) is ready f) Test on the real hardware hardware improvement example : enhance the image display quality by improving the underlying algorithm a) RTL/FPGA simulation b) Wait until hardware and test on the hardware Minor change example : only change hardware register mapping a) Wait until hardware and test on the hardware The worry is it seems we don't have too much control and confidence about software maturity for the hardware changes as the bring-up schedule is always very tight and the customer desired a seamless change when updating to a new version of hardware. How did you manage this kind of hardware change? Did you solve that by a Hardware Abstraction Layer (HAL)? Did you have a automatic test for the HAL layer? How did you test when the hardware platform is not even ready? Do you have well-documented processes for this kind of change?

I didn't done anything special(or i don't remembered...) but the code works fine on others computers... I'd rather not manually code something that looks for directory creation and adds a monitor, removing them on deletion, etc. The intended use is for a VCS file browser extension, to be able to cache the statuses of files in a working copy and update them individually on changes. So there might by anywhere from tens to thousands (or more) directories to monitor. I'd like to just find the root of the working copy and add the file monitor there. I know about pyinotify, but I'm avoiding it so that this works under non-Linux kernels such as FreeBSD or... others. As far as I'm aware, the GIO FileMonitor uses inotify underneath where available, and I can understand not emphasising the implementation to maintain some degree of abstraction, but it suggested to me that it should be possible. (In case it matters, I originally posted this on the PyGTK mailing list.)

    This is the test page: http://www.onebagoneearth.com/ OBOEKindBag (spaces between the pagename and domain because I don't want the URL indexed as such) If you click on one of the thumbnails, or on the main image, you see a popup window, and if you enter a quantity and then click "add to cart" here, in IE7 (and IE6, but I'm not focusing on that as much), you see an invalid argument error with Code:0. The line # changes depending on which item you add to cart! The URL also changes because it depends on this line of javascript: var cartUrl = "/app/site/backend/additemtocart.nl?c=659197&n=2&buyid=" + zbuyid + "&qty=" + zqty + "&" + strOptionId + "=" + zitmId . The strOptionId variable, which contains the bag color type (ie. this changes for the different types of bags, like Kind bags, regular OBOE bags), and the zitmID variable which contains the particular bag color that you've selected (ie. Black), are what change, and also what seem to affect the line number that the invalid argument occurs on. The error definitely doesn't occur in Chrome 4, IE 8, or FF 3.5. Ideas?

Is there a way to do that ?   • How to track the touch vector?

    I need to calculate the direction of dragging a touch, to determine if the user is dragging up the screen, or down the screen. Actually pretty simple, right? But: 1) Finger goes down, you get -touchesBegan:withEvent: called 2) Must wait until finger moves, and -touchesMoved:withEvent: gets called 3) Problem: At this point it's dangerous to tell if the user did drag up or down. My thoughts: Check the time and accumulate calculates vectors until it's secure to tell the direction of touch. Easy? No. Think about it: What if the user holds the finger down for 5 minutes on the same spot, but THEN decides to move up or down? BANG! Your code would fail, because it tried to determine the direction of touch when the finger didn't move really. Problem 2: When the finger goes down and stays at the same spot for a few seconds because the user is a bit in the wind and thinks about what to do now, you'll get a lot of -touchesMoved:withEvent: calls very likely, but with very minor changes in touch location. So my next thought: Do the accumulation in -touchesMoved:withEvent:, but only if a certain threshold of movement has been exceeded. I bet you have some better concepts in place?

  • Keeping track of dependency revisions

    I have a project with several dependencies that are in various repositories. Each time I commit changes to my project, I make sure I write the revision numbers of all the dependent repositories so that in the event I ever have to come back to this revision (let's call it 5), I can immediately know which revisions of the dependent repositories revision 5 is guaranteed to work with, update the dependencies to the specified revisions, compile and run the project. So for example if I have: Dep1 @ Revisions 10 Dep2 @ Revisions 20 Dep3 @ Revisions 10 Proj @ Revisions 35 And let's say that when Proj was on revision 17, the Dep1 revision was 5, Dep2 revision was 13 and Dep3 revision was 3. So in my SVN logs, I recorded something like this: !! Works with Dep1 Rev 5, Dep2 Rev 13, Dep3 Rev 3 To me this seems primitive and makes me believe that there is a better way to do it. Now in one of my other questions, Ivy Dependency Manager has been recommended. I have not looked at it in detail yet (seems complicated and yet another thing I must learn). To me it seems like the log of SVN (and Mercurial etc.) could have been split into Log and Dependencies (if any) where the latter could be switched off if there were no dependencies (unless of course I am unaware of an easier/better solution). This would allow for a cleaner log that maybe even warned at each new commit to check the previously defined dependencies again and make sure they have not changed. So, I was wondering how everyone manages this situations and if you have any tips, techniques, programs, suggestions that you can offer. Thank you.

When i add volatile modifier to isOn nothing changes, but if I change isOn to some class with boolean field and change this field then threads are see changes and it works fine Thanks in advance.

Unfortunately, both are geared towards content-based sites where everything is about the URL. Our URLs contain object IDs, making them less useful independently, and causing us to grow beyond Google Analytics' 50,000 unique URLs per day. How can we track hits to areas of our web application, essentially ignoring parts of the URLs?

  • Tridion New UI Preview Site is not reflecting with the changes unless pulished

    I have new UI setup and noticing that when ever I update a page it is not refreshing with the updated changes. I do not see either the page_{sessionId/GUID}.aspx created either. Checked the session preview DB and I see the changes in PAGE_CONTENT table with new rendered content, so seems like session preview is working fine but the Preview site is not able to get the changes and refresh the UI. I have checked all the preview handlers and mappings for .aspx and made sure they are correct in web.config. Any thoughts on why the preview site not showing up the changes?   • Changes made to cli's php.ini not taking effect

    I have two php.ini files - /etc/php.ini which loads in case of cli /opt/lampp/etc/php.ini which loads in case of browser. I am able to use PHP's Mailparse extension after adding the line extension=mailparse.so in the /opt/lampp/etc/php.ini and restarting lampp. But I am not able to load the same in case of command line - getting PHP Fatal error: Call to undefined function mailparse_msg_create() in ... mailparse_msg_create() is a part of the Mailparse extension. I tried by relogging with the user after making the change and even restarting the system. What needs to be done so that the change takes effect. Update I checked that php -i | grep 'Configuration File' gives PHP Warning: PHP Startup: Unable to load dynamic library '/usr/lib/php/modules/mailparse.so' - /usr/lib/php/modules/mailparse.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory in Unknown on line 0 Configuration File (php.ini) Path => /etc Loaded Configuration File => /etc/php.ini Update 2 I copied the mailparse.so from /opt/lampp/lib/php/extensions/no-debug-non-zts-20090626 and put it in /usr/lib/php/modules. I added extension=mailparse.so to /etc/php.ini as well. But it still showed this warning PHP Warning: PHP Startup: Unable to load dynamic library ... As told by Lekensteyn, I did ldd /usr/lib/php/modules/mailparse.so and got ldd: warning: you do not have execution permission for /usr/lib/php/modules/mailparse.so' So I gave execute permission. Then ldd /usr/lib/php/modules/mailparse.so showed linux-gate.so.1 => (0x00110000) libc.so.6 => /lib/libc.so.6 (0x0011d000) /lib/ld-linux.so.2 (0x003aa000) which looks normal. BUt now, running php command says PHP Warning: PHP Startup: Unable to load dynamic library '/usr/lib/php/modules/mailparse.so' - /usr/lib/php/modules/mailparse.so: undefined symbol: mbfl_name2no_encoding in Unknown on line 0

  • Make PATH variable changes permanent on openSuse

    Okay, so I'm trying to do something that should be rather simple but for some reason I can't quite seem to make it work. All I simply want to do is add a path to the PATH environment variable in openSuse. So far, I've edited the following line in /etc/default/su : PATH=/usr/local/bin:/bin:/usr/bin with this line : PATH=/usr/local/bin:/bin:/usr/bin:/usr/local/php/bin:/usr/local/mysql/bin Basically, all I want to do is have access to php and mysqld regardless of how I log in directly from the command prompt without having to type trailing /usr/local/php/bin/ every time. Am I even editing the right file? I'm a bit of a Linux newbie and to achieve something as trivial as this is eluding me. Server gods out there, drop be a crumb, please? :-)

    I was wondering if there was a unix daemon available that would be capable of something like this: admin adds an IP entry to a DB; daemon finds change after wait interval and manipulates ifconfig/config files I was thinking maybe there is a plugin for cfengine that might be able to do this, but I couldn't find any. I mean this would be a fairly easy thing to script up in perl, but why re-invent the wheel if theres already something out there that is better than what my limited programming abilities can make. Lastly, if it worked on FreeBSD that'd be great.

  • Volume key occassionally changes relative volume in mixer

    I find this a bit of a nuisance but I usually use the "volume up/down" key on my Microsoft ergo 4000 to change the volume of my system. The problem I'm experiencing is every so often, the volume of Winamp goes way down relative to the other apps in the mixer: So I don't always notice this right away, suddenly I can't hear Brandy warbling. And that makes me sad. Or mad. Or both. But it's a nuisance - is there a special key combination I need to avoid pressing to stop the mixer from imbalancing? Is there a way to disable this "app specific" mixer, because it is completely useless to me.

  • Hyper-V core NIC speeds and registry changes

    Good afternoon, On a Dell PE T610 I have Hyper-V core running, with 2 x Broadcom BCM5709C NetXtreme II GigE installed. I have noticed that copying large files 17GB for example, from a network physical server to the Hyper-V host local drive [not vm guest] is very slow in comparison to copying from Physical to Physical servers. Copying a 17GB file physical to Hyper-V host takes 30 minutes Copying a 17GB file physical to physical host takes 15 minutes Can someone tell me exactly what registry nodes I should disable on Hyper-V NICs to improve performance. So far I have gone to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class{4 D36E972-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} and set the following to 0 on both physical NICs: *LSOv1IPv4 *LSOv2IPv6 *TCPUDPChecksumOffloadIPv4 *TCPUDPChecksumOffloadIPv6 Should I also disable *TCPConnectionOffloadIPv4 & *TCPConnectionOffloadIPv6?   • RHEL 5.1 loses changes to /etc/hosts above lines for `localhost`

    Is there a known fix (other than upgrading from 5.1) to fix /etc/hosts from being replaced on reboot? I discovered this behavior when running HP's Server Automation tools. HPSA sets-up a variety of local aliases for itself to use for different components to communicate wit each other. However, after reboot, the hosts files is reverted to a quasi-plain-vanilla version: all lines above the entry for localhost are removed. Manually re-adding those needed lines below the entries for localhost works, but is non-ideal. Is there a fix for this behavior? I do realize that RHEL 5u1 is not officially supported for HPSA 7.8, but the hosts file resetting is not good for a variety of other reasons, too.

    I am currently running on Windows 7 x64, and have observe that my hard disk space is acting a little weird. Currently, my harddisk has 3 partitions, C:, D:, E:. Previously, before I delete a huge folder (30gb of data) from my D: drive, my C: drive has about 1gb left, while my E: drive has about 5 gb left. After deleting the 30gb of data (from D: drive), my space in D: drive has been recovered (but not sure if it's fully recovered), my C: drive which only had about 1gb left increased to 3. While my E: drive which had 5gb left dropped to 1. I was wondering if it has something to do with the fragmentations and whatsoever I always hear about in harddisk. Has anyone encountered similar issues or have an explanation to why it could be happening?

    I hope you can help... I have a google account that I use to manage my church website. This account is set up with my work email address. My work (a school system) is in the process of changing us all over to use google accounts to replace Outlook. When I logged in to this new account (which is my same email address) it no longer lets me manage my google site.
