  • Visiting launchpad.net in browser causes icon to appear in launcher, how do I remove it?

    Using Ubuntu 12.10 with Unity. I think I agreed to install a Launchpad add-on in Firefox the first time I visited the site (launchpad.net), and ever since then, whenever I have an open tab in Firefox with any page on launchpad.net loaded, an icon appears in my Launcher desktop widget. If I right-click on the icon and select quit, it also closes the tab in Firefox. I've since uninstalled the Firefox add-on and rebooted, and it's still happening. How do I make it stop?   • How to fix LibreOffice 3.5 to start from launcher icon?

    Recently I installed LibreOffice 3.5 from debs (including the ones for desktop integration. Since then it behaves in a weird manner. Basically it won't launch from launcher shortcuts. Example: dash libreoffice launched (launcher shows with 2 seconds delay) 'keep in launcher' LO closed the LO icon on the launcher clicked pulsating for 5 seconds, then stops LO didn't launch I didn't look for open processes or anything and... dash libreoffice launched immediately without problems It also didn't remember recently opened items, but now it got fixed somehow. Other symptoms: - icon on the launcher and all menu categories appear with a delay of few seconds - two writer icons appear on the launcher What I did: used 3.4.5, uninstalled, installed 3.5 RC3, problems started to occur uninstalled RC3 'clean' per http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Installing_LibreOffice_on_Linux#Debian_.2F_Ubuntu_3 installed 3.5 stable which is identical to RC3 still same issues I don't know if it is related but I use Unity test PPA:vanvugt/unity which I needed to solve the stuttering windows bug. Any ideas?

    One of the more annoying bugs in Windows XP is the tendency for the Task Manager icon to not show up in the tray (aka the notification area). Sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't, and it's not consistent enough to have an obvious cause. Looking on Google turns up a bunch of forums that have the same problem but no working solution. Why does the task manager icon sometimes not show up? How can I repair it when this happens (how can make it show up when it's missing)? How can I prevent it from not working in the first place, so that I don't have to worry about repairing it after the fact?

  • What kind of icon should I deploy with my Android 1.x and 2.x application?

    The thing is this, in Android 1.5 and 1.6 we had the Icon Design Guidelines. In this guide there are specifications for application icons. Every application should conform to this. However, in recent Android versions (2.0 and 2.1) icons have changed from the old to this new flat 2D style. Every icon in Nexus One has this style, so not even Google is conforming to the guideline. To see the differences between high and low density icons see this image and compare Evernote icon with the rest. I've been able to use different icons by using two directories with different icons: drawables-hdpi/icon.png and drawables/icon.png, BUT not every Android 2.x is going to be HDPI and not every 1.x Android device is going to be low pixel density. So the question is: Should I deploy different icons for different Android platform version within my apk file? and if I should, How do I do it?

    I am writing wxWidgets application where I am importing the .ICO file as a header. I am attempting to use a wxMemoryFSHandler to make this icon (and others as well) accessible as files. I am using the following code to do this: wxFileSystem::AddHandler(new wxMemoryFSHandler); wxMemoryFSHandler::AddFileWithMimeType( "app_inactive.ico", CsiWebAdmin_ico, sizeof(CsiWebAdmin_ico), "image/vnd.microsoft.icon"); Unfortunately, if I try to load an icon from this "file" as shown below, it does not work. As I stepped through the MSW source (wx 2.8.10), I can see that the loader never attempted to resolve the virtual file name. wxIcon icon("memory:app_inactive.ico"); I have also tried the following: wxIcon icon(wxIconLocation("memory:app_inactive.ico")); and have encountered the same results. I realise that I can use resources to load these files but I would still face the same dilemma when the time came to port my application to GTK. Is there something obvious that I am missing?

    I"m setting the icon of a toolbar button (using Infragistics component library for the toolbar), The problem is that on design time the icon is showing normally. But at runtime the icon become greyed, though the drawing of the icon is still apparent, but its colors are all lost and the shape of the icon image is grey. So i'm wondering if it's colour related bug, or I need to tweek something in VS, or it is a bug in the library i'm using i.e. Infragistics. So anyone faced that problem before and fixed it?

    I have a wxPython application I'm bundling into an exe using py2exe. I've defined an icon in the setup.py file using the following: setup( windows=[ { 'script': 'myapp.py', 'icon_resources': [(1, 'myicon.ico')] }, ], ) This works, but I'd like to be able to access that icon from my wxPython application and use it as the window icon that appears in the top right. Currently I'm using the following to load the icon from the file system: icon = wx.Icon('myicon.ico', wx.BITMAP_TYPE_ICO, 16, 16) self.SetIcon(icon) Which works, but requires that the icon sit beside the EXE, rather than bundled inside it.

  • How to check if a cdrom is in the tray remotely (via ssh)?

    I have a server running Ubuntu 10.04 (it's on the other side of the world and I haven't built up the wherewithal to upgrade it remotely yet) and I have been told that there is a CD in one of it's two CD drives. I want to rip an image of the cd and then download it to my local computer (I don't need help with either of these steps). However, I cannot seem to confirm whether or not there actually is a CD in the drive as I was told. It did not automatically mount anywhere (which I'm thinking might just be a result of it being a headless server not running X, nautilus, or any of the other nice user friendly things).   • Booting Ubuntu 12.04 in Unity the Windows Theme & Icon Theme reversed back to and always locked to Ubuntu default

    I did set up last year Faience-Ocre as my Icon Theme and Adwaita Cupertino L Unity as my Windows Theme (the GTK+ thme was unchanged to Adwaita (default)). It has worked perfectly well until 3 days ago when starting my PC I saw the Ubuntu default showing up for Windows & Icon Theme. I noticed that at start-up the disk access LED is not lit up continuously as before but at moment stops reading for a few seconds (up to 15 s) then complete the disk reading process. When all was working well this LED would lit up continuously. Another thing is that GNOME applications are as well not working well as previously Nautilus and Gedit now don't use the global menu in the system bar but a local window menu. Nautilus - Nemo before the incident Nautilus - Nemo now ... I did open dconf to check the desktop settings in org-gnome-desktop-wm-preferences and everything is looking good. When I change the settings in the app Advanced Settings in the Theme folder I see the respective value changing in dconf. However, there is no change on my desktop. It looks like it's crippled and GNOME related. [Update 1]: I have the same defect as referenced @ ubuntu theme suddenly changed to default and it's not coming back! instead of my GTK theme I get a classic, Windows-95-like grayish theme ... However one of the solution mentionned: http://www.webupd8.org/2011/06/fix-ubuntu-linux-mint-theme-changing-to.html is not working at all, even for 20 s up to 60 s delay.

    It is trivial to do this in Ubuntu 10.04. The question is specific to Ubuntu 12.04. This has nothing to do (does it?) with right click. How can an indicator's icon in Ubuntu 12.04 be matched with the program responsible for it's manifestation on the top panel? A list of running applications can include all processes using System Monitor. How is the correct matching process found for an indicator? (the examination of SM points out a rather poignant factor in the faster depletion and shortened run time on battery - the ambient quiescent CPU rate in 12.04 is now well over 20% when previously it was well under 10% in 10.04, between 5% and 7%!) (I have a problem with the battery indicator - it sometimes has % and other times hh:mm - it is necessary to know the ap. & v. to get more info on controlling same. ditto: There are issues with other indicator aps.) Details from: How can I find Application Indicator ID's? suggests looking at: file:///usr/share/indicator-application/ordering-override.keyfile [Ordering Index Overrides] nm-applet=1 gnome-power-manager=2 ibus=3 gst-keyboard-xkb=4 gsd-keyboard-xkb=5 which solves the battery identification, and presumably nm is NetworkManager for the rf icon, but the envelope, blue tooth and speaker indicator aps. are still a mystery. (Also, the ordering is not correlated.)   • Have something loaded only when JList item is visibile

    Hello, i'm implementing a Jlist populated with a lot of elements. Each element corresponds to a image so i'd like to show a resized preview of them inside each row of the list. I've implemented a custom ImageCellRenderer extending the Jlabel and on getListCellRendererComponent i create the thumbnail if there'snt any for that element. Each row corresponds to a Page class where i store the path of the image and the icon applied to the JLabel. Each Page object is put inside a DefaultListModel to populate the JList. Is there any way to load the data only when necessary or do i need to create a custom control like a JScrollPanel with stacked items inside where i check myself the visibility of each elements?   • VS2010 "An item with the same key has already been added"

    I recently installed Visual Studio 2010 and copied and converted an old VS2005 solution to VS2010 When I edit this solution, if I try to change a control's .image property, VS2010 creates a message box telling me that "An item with the same key has already been added" (screenshot below), and won't let me browse for an image. I can add images for any other solution, even others ported from VS2005, but not this one. Any idea what I'm doing wrong?

I have changed the actual tab bar background, but I need to know how to add custom images for the icons and their respective "selected" icons. I also need to remove the square highlight that is default. Pretty much, it just needs to be my icons. Also wondering if the images can be coloured or not.
