  • Pros and cons of distributed revision control systems?

    - by Ludwig Weinzierl
What are the advantages and disadvantages of distributed revision control systems? If you have any experience with distributed systems like Git, Mercurial, Plastic SCM, etc. please share your experience. Tell us what worked well and where problems arose. I'm particularly interested to hear about the use of distributed systems in traditional, commercial, non-open source projects but answers about other uses are also welcome.

  • Access control for cross site requests in Internet Explorer

    - by Aleksandar
I am trying to make an AJAX call from several domains to a single one which will handle the request. Enabling Cross domain in Firefox and Chrome was easy by setting the header on the handling server: header("Access-Control-Allow-Origin: *"); But this doesn't help enabling it in Internet Explorer. When I try: httpreq.send(''); it stops with error Access denied. How can this be enabled in Internet Explorer?

  • Silverlight Control Disable/Remove Events

    - by Dave
I have a scenario where a control has an event wired up in XAML, say a Button.Click. Somewhere else in my code, a security check is applied which mean I need to disable said event, but I do not have access to the normal -= syntax to remove it. How else can I remove or disable this event? Thanks, Dave

  • Storing third-party libraries in source control

    - by graham.reeds
Should libraries that the application relies on be stored in source control? One part of me says it should and another part say's no. It feels wrong to add a 20mb library that dwarfs the entire app just because you rely on a couple of functions from it (albeit rather heavily). Should you just store the jar/dll or maybe even the distributed zip/tar of the project? What do other people do?

  • Which information (files) of an eclipse-workspace should be tracked by source control

    - by Phuong Nguyen de ManCity fan
I want to track the workspace of eclipse by source control so that important settings can be backed up. However, there are a lot of kind of *.index inside the .metadata folder of workspace. Some information are important, for example Mylyn repository, but some information is merely cached files and thus, doesn't make sense to me for being tracked. In short, what files inside eclipse workspace that should be tracked so that I can restore the working workspace after problems (like meta data file deleted, etc.)

  • Scala: custom control structures with several code blocks

    - by Vilius Normantas
    Is it possible to create a custom control structure with several code blocks, in the fashion of before { block1 } then { block2 } finally { block3 }? The question is about the sugar part only - I know the functionality can be easily achieved by passing the three blocks to a method, like doInSequence(block1, block2, block3). A real life example. For my testing utilities I'd like to create a structure like this: getTime(1000) { // Stuff I want to repeat 1000 times. } after { (n, t) => println("Average time: " + t / n) }

  • long vs. short branches in version control

    - by Vincenzo
I wonder whether anyone knows some research done with the question "What is good/bad in long/short branches in version control?" I'm specifically interested in academic researches performed in this field. My questions are: What problems (or conflicts) long branches may produce and how to deal with them How to split a big task onto smaller branches/sub-tasks How to coordinate the changes in multiple short branches, related to the same code Thanks in advance for links and suggestions!

    - by Mike
I am looking for an encrypted version control system . Basically I would like to -have all files encrypted locally before sending to the server. the server should never receive any file or data unencrypted. -Every other feature should work pretty much the same way as SVN or CVS does today. Can anyone recommend something like this? I did a lot of searches but I cant find anything.

  • Web browser control: Detecting changes in form content

    - by Khou
A form contains many elements, such as labels, Textbox, radio options box etc How do you detect the user has changed a textbox input value, or has choosen a radio option within the content of a web browser control? (not the winform itself). Do you handle a winform event for when the mouse clicked or keyboard keys pressed? or is there a better way to detect changes in the web browser content?
