  Whenever I overwrite a file using FTP, the chmod of the file gets reset to 600. What can I do prevent this? I'd like to just set the chmod for the entire directory and never have it change.

  Scripting question. Dang, it should be easier than this. I have a file with a list of names. I'd like to turn those names into folders. Whenever I try the FOR loop, all I get is the name of the file I want to read from being created as a folder, not the contents of the file being turned into folders. Just want to mkdir for each item in the list.

• Remote Desktop triggers a loud Beep on local machine - how to shut it up?

  When I remote desktop into a server, I get a loud beep coming out of my local machine whenever certain messageboxes pop up. (An example is to search for something in the Event Log - when the search finds no results, I get a message box accompanied by a loud beep) Annoyingly, the beep still happens even if I have sound turned off locally or the volume right down - it seems to be hooking in to some low level OS-beep mechanism.   I want to clear only JavaScript files from my web browsers (Firefox and Chrome). I am doing JavaScript debugging, and it's annoying that my JS just won't get updated whenever I change my JS files.   Whenever I right-click something in windows explorer other than favorites, libraries, computer, or network (the main headings in the left pane), the drop-down menu does not appear and an error pops up "windows explorer has stopped working" - "windows explorer is restarting". Once those both close the icons on the desktop and taskbar itself blink off and back on again. Is there any way of finding out what is going on when I right click and this problem ensues?

• How can I use the Chinese IME with a Dvorak layout?

  I use a Dvorak keyboard layout, controlled through the language bar "United States-Dvorak". I'm trying to use the Chinese IME (Simplified, Pinyin), but whenever I switch to that mode, the keys go back to QWERTY, so I can't type... Note: The OS is Windows 7, which has the new Pinyin IME.   Hi, guys, I'm running Windows 7. Whenever I disable the wireless adapter, the "Disable" option does not change to "enable". Similarly, for the "Local Area Connection", when I click on "Disable", the adapter gets disabled, but the "Disable" option remains. In summary, I am never offered the option to enable an adapter.

  Whenever I play a flash video on my browser (whichever I use, Chrome, Firefox or IE), there's a risk that I lose my Internet connection. I know it's limited to my computer only as my roommates are unaffected. I'm the only one that loses connection. The default behavior is to alert whenever one of the MX servers is down. I would like to set a timeperiod i.e. 23:00 to 06:00 when nagios only alerts me by sms in case both servers are down. Whenever I log in I have to run to following command to mount my shared Windows web dev folder: sudo mount.vboxsf web_apps /mnt/web_apps Where can I put this line (minus the sudo) so that it will run once when Linux boots up? I'm guessing there must be a root .profile or .login script that runs at some point?

• CAS auth fails while migrating wordpress-mu from apache to IIS

  Having an issue migrating a wordpress-mu installation that I have running with cas authentication enabled (using wpcas and phpcas 1.1.0) from apache on an ubuntu machine to IIS on a windows 2008 machine. While CAS authed fine under linux, I'm getting a "CAS Authentication failed! You were no authenticated." page that pops up whenever I enter in a correct login. Anyone know whats up or if there are some logs I can look at to get more info?

• Textmate single quotes autoclosure

  I’m using TextMate 1.5.10 on OS X Lion, and for some weird reason I don‘t get autocomplete for single quotes ('). Double quotes (") work fine. Since I personally prefer to use single quotes whenever I code in JavaScript or PHP, that thing annoys me a little. And as far I have googled, TextMate is actually supposed to autoclose single quotes by default. So why doesn’t this work for me and how do I force-enable this feature?

  I have a number of secure emails sent to my Outlook 2007 client. Most arrive fine and display the prompt with regards to granting access to the certificate and then open. Today I received two that crash Outlook whenever I try to open them. I've tried restarting Outlook and my computer but still have the same problem.
